Hello I am planning to get a phone today around 200$ both mi a2 and lg G6 is under 200$ in my country.. which one should I get ?? I will use it mostly to watch YouTube, browsing and some lite GPS usage ..
I believe G6's camera is far superior. Plus I've come to much appreciate the wide angle camera on the same device. If camera matters to you go for G6. I also think sooner or later, LG will provide update to Android P, too
well, considering Mi A2 didnt have headphone jack, the camera is worse than G6, have less features, have Android One (wich personaly i didnt like, is boring) i think if you find G6 at same price or less, then you should go for G6 without thinkin...G6 at 200 is a damn of a deal. specialy with SD821, QHD display, great cameras, manual camera etc etc...i dont need to say anymore, i own it and is amazing you will like it better than Mi A2 for sure, i already play with A2 and is really a boring and the screen to body ratio is bigger in G6, A2 have too much bezels.
Worse Camera? One has to wonder what criteria one is using...
The Mi A2 is getting fantastic reviews for it's advances in camera ability. It has pixel binning and a wide aperture on *both* rear lenses, which make for more light getting through to the sensor, which makes for better pictures in low light. It has portrait mode on both the rear and front cameras, but it's main feature is ability in low light.
I have a G6, like it. But have a Mi A2 arriving soon. The G6, unless you get one of the few versions that are unlockable, will not get updates in a timely manner or fairly soon, never.
The A2 on the other hand is just released, 2 yrs of promised OS updates, and 3 yrs of security updates (my G6 is on May security - the August security is already available for the A2).
The A2 is project treble enabled and unlockable (no questions asked, no code needed). And while some find Android One "boring", others of us find it fantastic; I'm a minimalist, I want to get the most out of the hardware as possible; that means running as little bloatware as I can.
Don't get me wrong, I like the G6. And will decide after some time which one I sell. But the Mi A2 is being hailed as a great phone for the price range.
Much depends on what your needs are of course. I prefer the aluminum unibody phones, with the 2.5D glass, they are more 'rounded' and easier to hold. And cameras with good low light are a very big plus... Where are most of the pics you take with your phone? Indoors with friends, maybe at night, that type of a thing. I don't walk around during daylight looking to take pictures with my phone, for that I have a sony mirroless camera with a lot of interchangeable lenses.
The G6 is a higher tier phone. Much smaller yet with bigger screen, better display, better camera, faster, always on display. And if we are talking about the dual sim version, then there's also the quad DAC, for someone who wants to listen to music from a mobile device in the best possible quality.
Mi A1 is a great phone, I like it, but I don't think that it's a match for the G6. I like the Android One thing, but it was made with cost being one of the first priorities, G6 wasn't that much.

My mistake, but things are even worse for the A2. Much bigger, no card slot, no FM radio (for someone who needs it),
A2 is the phone to get if the only priority is the pure Android and the updates.

$200 is a bargain for the LG.
Go for it, although you have to be aware that you are buying a model that is almost a year and a half old and therefore towards the end of support by LG
This doesn't take away from the enjoyment that you get from the phone, but you have to adjust your expectations.
As you can see from these forums there are many people "kvetching" (whining) about the delay or lack of updates.
For most people this isn't important but you have to decide for yourself.

Sure, this doesnt mean if the support ends for G6 the phone will be trash, it doesnt mean that...i dont why people bother so much for updates since you always waste time searching for it and then dont enjoy the true value of the phone, simple because you are obcessed with updates...
For the price you pay for G6 is a true value phone, you know what a high end looks like, even tho is from last year but high end will be high end forever because of the looks of it, and a midrange with stock will always be mid range with stock android.
And...i know for almost sure, G6 will have Android Pie next year, of course A2 will have it sooner or already have it (IDK) but for G6 is a must welcome update, SD821 with Pie will last at least for more one year or so, like you can go out with your phone until ends of 2019 or more.
Thats what im gonna to do with my G6, wait for Pie and use it for more 1 or 2 years...as for Mi A2 from today until 2 years will keep receiving updates but i dont see your Mi A2 last more than 2 years, Xiaomi always make new models and maybe Mi A2 will be out of updates sooner than people will expect.
I am not convincing anyone to buy this or that phone, they have the pros and cons like every phone, but the weight here is more to the G6 than to Mi A2.

... i have G6, but i already put my hands on A2, bezels is too much and the top bezel makes the phone ugly, too light weight like you holding a paper not a phone, screen is nothing special, stock android (at least for me) didnt have taste, is like a salted water biccuit. But people chose what they gonna want, i only give my feedback upon my experience in both.
I too am very happy with my G6.
The only open question at this point is reliability, given the bootloop problem that many LG manufactured phones have had.
Both my sons had Nexus 5x's and both died from bootloops within 2 years.
Hopefully the G6 won't suffer the same fate.

LG after beign sued because bootloops i think they already fix it since G5/V20 all phones since those is no more bootloop aware and if they do is people fault of flashing wrong things and do what they dont know what they doing, and even that way the bootloop by accident is easy fixed with Uppercut or LG UP.
LG fame of bootloops keep going i know but LG phones dont bootloop anymore i can guarantee you.
Yes, that's what I read too, but it had definitely hurt LG's reputation and their competition with Samsung (even with the exploding Galaxy s7 LOL)
Hopefully I will retire it when the Lg G7 becomes a bargain!

I just bought A2 and sold the G6 after 1,5 year. If you are not a fashion phone user choose the A2 and be advanced user
I've had both phones, both are good, but you have to ask; What's most important for you? I like the G6 better because of the size. Ideally I'd have a Pixel 3, but not until the price comes down for me. I like the wide angle lens' on the G6 also. There are so many factors re phones, unlockable, roms, development, updates, etc etc.
what matters to you? that's the tough question.

I also have both phones and prefer the A2
The LG does have great cameras but the A2 is not far behind. The A2 has very good cameras. Especially the front facing camera which is much better then the G6.

So I was really considering on buying the 5s but now thinking is it really worth it?
They are boasting about the camera but they removed OIS! IR blaster though that's not a deal breaker. Guess camera is the highlight really

I'm actually contemplating about the same choice. I almost bought Mi 5 Prime with 3GB RAM, but was a bit hesitant because of the following things:
Mi 5 is one of the easiest bend-breakable phones so you need some sturdy case to mitigate bend break problem
(un)availability of custom ROMs as I don't think I'd like running MIUI on the long run. I would rather put some as vanilla as possible OS on it
Ordering from China is a bit risky
But in the meantime Mi 5S came out and I really like that it has aluminium back and upgraded processor although I'm not sure whether there's significant performance difference between the two. But if I do buy myself Mi 5S, I'll likely have to wait for a longer time before I'll be able to get some vanilla Android on it. Pixel is just too crazy expensive.
I guess I'll wait a bit until we get some feedback from the community to see how well this device is built and performs.
Just my 2 cents:
1) OIS on the Mi5s is not available for the sensor atm, might be, "might be" due to its large sensor. (As Google Pixel phones do not have OIS as well)
-On the bright side, the DIS works like a charm :3
2) If you want to get yourself "Daydream VR ready", do get the Mi5s as the Snapdragon 821 supports it~ (even though the performance increase is not skyrocket high)
3) After watching several videos from Youtube about Mi5 and Mi5s, camera performance is in fact increased for the Mi5s.
-However, low light scenario based pictures and videos would have varying results I suppose.
-Since it uses the same sensor as Google Pixel but not as great as Google Pixel's camera quality, future updates "might" be able to increase the Mi5s camera performance. (Or maybe even custom ROMs).
4) From what I heard on chinese Mi5s reviews/hands on, the ultrasonic fingerprint reader's performance may vary. Might be due to its 'newborn' nature (it is a new tech, so optimisation might not be optimal).
5) Like what literadesign mentioned, the Mi5 surely is a "bendable" phone. I assume that Mi5s alloy body would have make it less bendable. (Hard to say, do not just buy it to try its bendable level lel)

Better screen on g6 next to no bezzle on g6 them 2 things alone make the g6 better than op5 in my opinion
The only 3 things that op5 have better than LG it's fast updates , stock Android and the os it's faster. The rest the gym smocks op5

If you are concerned about the front camera on the LG G6, use the rear wide angle camera and easily take selfies! The LG G6 is one of the fastest SD 821 devices out there so compared to the One Plus 5 which use SD 835, You will save fractions of a second when using the faster One Plus 5, nothing major differences in performance! LG G6 is even better than the SD 835 or the Exynos specced Galaxy S8 due to the LG UX 6.0 being smoother than Samsung's software..
Well, this is ironic.
I have a G6 and my friend just got an OP5 so we compared a few things. I have a pretty good idea what the differences are.
Design: Of course this is subjective, depends what you prefer. The OP5 is thinner, but I like the G6 better. That's of course your preference, but once you go bezeless, it's hard to go back.
Battery: I'm actually getting great battery life on the G6, however, the OP5 is just better. The battery size is the same, but the 835 is more power efficient, the screen is 1080p instead of 2k, and Android 7.1 has more battery optimizations than 7.0. As well as less bloat running in the background.
Of course again, that depends on your usage. Speaking of display:
Screen: Both are gorgeous screens, 5.7 2k vs 5.5 1080p (and yes, the G6 is slightly smaller even with the bigger screen). Both are nice, and it's really your choice. The G6 screen is gorgeous, and LCD which is really one of the best. The OP5 screen is a nice dark amoled and has great colour. You won't be disappointed by either screen, it all depends on whether you really want the nicer denser screen, or of 1080p is nice enough, taking I told account battery savings.
Speed: Day to day usage, both phones are great. I really see no stutter or lags on either device, except for the occasional hiccup in an app. But that's the app more than the hardware.
That being said, the little things is where the OP5 flies. Unlocking it is nearly instant. The camera loads ridiculously quickly. And of course games load quicker. If the G6 could be rooted and some bloat deleted, it could probably do a bit better, but stock out of the box, the OP5 flies... unlike the G6.
Camera: I'm not a big photos guy, so I can only give you some simple experience with that. Both rear cameras are very similar quality wise. The OP5 gets the bokkeh effect, and the G6 has the wide lens. Again, kind of comes down to your preference. The front facing camera is better on the OP5. That's no competition. I assume LG could not fit a better camera on the small bezel. That being said, it's not a TERRIBLE camera. As long as you have some good light, you're fine. It's just low light that ruins things (like most cameras anyway)
Regardless, both phones are pretty awesome. They both do very well for day-to-day. They both look very nice as well. Although I'd give the "looks" advantage to the G6, especially since the OP5 looks just like the iphone7, which personally, I really don't like. But it doesn't mean its a bad look or anything, again, very subjective. The power though, goes to the OP5. Again, the G6 isn't bad by any means, but you can really tell which phone is more powerful when putting them side by side.
I tend to edge over to the G6. I feel it's a more no compromises approach. Despite being overall less powerful, it doesn't suffer in day to day, and looks great. The OP5 is definitely more of an enthusiast device, but I would pass on the looks.
So unless there is a specific reason to get one: like rooting, the front camera, the display tech (LCD vs amoled), the processor, etc. You'll be fine with either device.
Take a look at the pricing around you. I got the G6 from a carrier so I paid less up front, but overall the OP5 is a bit cheaper (at least here) so that's a consideration.

Leaning towards the op5
My LG G4 just died with the boot loop that's caused by the soldering problem admitted by LG themselves. Despite my phone still being under warranty, they've refused to fix it due to the phone being rooted. Luckily Amazon gave me a full refund regardless. Not happy with LG at all! I mean rooting is the whole point of owning an Android in the first place.
LG seems to be a better and cheaper phone here (maybe not so much in the battery department) but I'm weary of getting burned again by LG... Plus OP has better support and optimization. The battery life on the original firmware that LG G4 came with was absolutely appalling, 2.5h of screen on time. Smh...

I'm starting to regret getting the g6. Stuck on android 7.0 and probably getting only one more update to 8.0. First releases are always bug infested.....we...G6 owners are doomed to use buggy software till rhe end of days.
My prior phone (OP3) wasn't flawless but at least the software was up to date and it was rootable.
I'm waiting for the release of the new pixel and if that won't win me over...im jumping ship to the OP5.

Im actually expecting G6 to receive Project Treble support and 2 more android updates. Keep in mind G6 was released early this year with nougat (7), oem flagships usually support phones for 2 years, thus android 9 is not wishful thinking...pending support from qualcomm on 821 chip, but I'd imagine google will press qualcomm to maintain support as original pixels share same chip.

Both devices come with 2 cameras and a single battery in the box.
Camera wise they are both really good cameras but I'd go LG because the software is way better and you get the added benefit from the support of GCam mods and other Snapdragon device ports. FFC on the P10 is better than the G6 though. Display is better on the G6 with qHD+ Vs FHD on the P10. Kirin 960 is a newer processor than the SD821 however the difference in benchmark speed is not phenomenal. P10 will get project treble support and that will probably be a nice thing to have aosp/custom ROMs ported over to the device because EMUI is not everyone's cup of tea. G6 has had some issues with software updates as you've probably read in the forum's. All in all both are really good devices and depending on the price either one is not really a bad choice.

LG are disappointing with their update rollout for a flagship, and if you are looking at a DS module, no boot loader unlock which is also a disappointment.
I'm also now experiencing some bluetooth audio quality issues when paired with 2 other BT devices in my car - I have tested this on two other phones (the 6P and my old Sony Xperia) and neither of them have the same behaviour when paired with the same devices.
This phone is starting to disappoint me.
I don't have the P10, but I had the Honor 8 and I swore to never use a EMUI phone again. It had so much bugs and quirks. Especially with the feature to make apps sleep and even after you whitelist them and tweak settings, sometimes the notification is not assured to appear every single time. Last time I used EMUI, if you lock your phone with Android Device Manager's lost phone feature, you can completely bypass the lock screen with ease.
I do know the Kirin processor is really fast, if you are looking for outright performance, it's probably better to go with the P10, especially with 1080p screen which will run smoother.

G6 all the way. Two things i don't like about Huawei, one is EMUI and second they don't use any type of oleophobic coating, not even on flagship devices. Glass (which is not even Gorilla glass) gets so fingerprinty it's unbearable.

I already had an Honor 8.
I prefer the speed of honor. Lg g6 is nice but not so... And i think camera is normal. Not crazy.
So i recommand you P10.
But i must recommand Oneplus 5T, and maybe if you can wait, take the next model, Oneplus 6 !
Get the LG. Huawei has support that is worse than LG.
LG is also offering a two year warranty.
I had same dilemma. Screen-cpu-battery should be on p10 side. I sad should be cause on net i saw different scenarios about battery.
I took lg g6 even it was 50 usd more expensive mainly because i had lg devices before and i couldn't stand emui.
Meanwhile i "discovered" wide angle camera and great build quality (dropped this one 10+ times). Though i got model with inferior camera i can say lg g6 i rock solid device and if u can't choose among others like one plus or shaomi go for lg.

My girlfriend has the P10 and I get G6. I compare both phones, testing many things and I prefer the G6: better software, the phone looks better and you haver a better screen. Maybe some colors in P10 looks better, but in general, you must get the G6.
I previously owned a G4 which I had to sell due to the bootloop issues. Then I went on to Huawei Honor 8 (my current phone) which has the poorest official update, root, twrp, cROM support I've ever seen in my life.
My needs are: Good camera, good performance, decent battery life.

How hard is unlocking,rooting,flashing twrp?
How hard is the unbricking process? (Asking this bcz despite all the ****s of my Honor 8, it had a good unbricking process which made taking risks easier)

Well, G6 is the most underated phone of the last year, even this year can beat some called "high ends" but to answer your questions:
* Yes, the support for this phone is normal, not huge, not big but you have some development for this phone, some ROM's and Kernels.
* Already answered.
*You need to visit LG Bootloader Unlock page to see what variants of G6 can be unlock, not everyone can be so, be aware first.
*Unbrick is the same as previous models (G4, G5, V10, V20 etc) most needed is Uppercut or LG Bridge to solve the most common issues with this device, wich if you dont mess a lot then you wont have any problem.
You find all Answers in the Forum, when you already open your Eyes in the G6 Forum, LOL.
But for Customisation (root, unblock ...) its pretty hard, only less Variants of the G6 you can unblock and fill with a Custom Rom.
But the Phone itself has a good Battery and Performance

i dont know what country you live but if you are from Europe you should get the H870 (not DS wich are Dual Sim, that model dont allow Bootloader Unlock). If you are from US you should buy a US997.
I dont know more variants who can be unlocked at the moment.
Dont opt for the G6. H870DS model has 64GB storage, quad DAC and wireless charging. Some models don't come with all these features. Instead, go for a Nokia or a Xiaomi smartphone instead. Nokia 7 Plus seems to be making a lot of ripples. Or wait for the Nokia X6 instead.
From personal experience, I can tell you this for a fact that LG G6 is a good phone with great performance capabilities, but in order to get that level of performance, you'll need to dive into all the options (gimmicks), like switching off the game battery saver and the LDB from the hidden service menu.
The company software support is a total zombie apocalypse!
Don't fall into the bandwagon, go through the benchmark scores of the phone enticing you and compare it with some competition to know better and make the right call.
It is a best value for money smartphone. You have just to compare its characteristics to others, in order to realize it. Its a flagship smartphone, built in with quality micro devices. Its price has fallen unpredictable and it's good time to buy it. LG service (in Europe) is excellent and immediate. I have tried it. I own a LG G6 (H870).
The dev support for this phone exists, but is very very minimal, since only two versions of this phone are bootloader unlockable.
Custom ROMs are available also, but any AOSP rom isn't going to be able to use the stock camera capabilities. This is a problem with most LG phones I believe, and was the same on my G3.
I'm using stock because the custom roms I've seen aren't 100% functional. Also you're not going to have many apps to customize stock like we did with G3 Tweaksbox for example.
For my US997, Unlock and Root was very straightforward, similar to my Nexus 6P, except you have to get an unlock file from LG's website. (as others have said, you must buy the correct model G6)
I bought this phone because it's a quality phone with a great camera, can root, unlock bootloader, headphone jack, perfect size and has an SD card slot which was important to me. But coming from the Nexus 6P and even the G3 before that, the lack of dev support for this phone is very frustrating.
This phone's stock roms won't let you encrypt data while it's rooted, which means if I lose my phone, anyone who knows how to boot into TWRP can access all of my data.
Because we don't have apps like G3 Tweaksbox or anything similar, you can't do basic stuff like disable the loud volume warning with your headphones on. (This is possible btw, but without a guide idk how to do it)
Overall I'm happy with this phone but if I broke it or lost it right now, I'm not sure I'd buy another one.

with Sprint you have to have an approved IMEI in order to pair the phone with the SIM ICCID and MIN...so even though the Mi Mix 2 should support Sprint, Sprint won’t allow you to use it unless they whitelist it in the store...which is tough to get I hear. Sprint is different from Verizon...Verizon doesn’t block unapproved phones (except during SIM activation) but Sprint in effect does so.
But I'm in europe and I don't know anything about the usa carriers, so I'm sorry I can't help you.

Does the G6 have a good camera? Sort of. Front-facing camera is a little bit disappointing, but it's not an issue if you don't take selfies. The two cameras at the back are alright, but you're gonna have to use a custom build of GCam for better results.
Good performance? Overall, yeah. Not much I can say here. The built-in gaming settings allow you to change the resolution of games to favor either performance or graphics, if that's your cup of tea.
In terms of battery life, I can get 4-5 hours SoT using instagram a lot and LTE for the majority of the day with music playing in the background. Good enough for me.
Those other options you said you could afford are probably better, though.
I wouldn't recommend it really. LG's quality control is terrible (the fingerprint scanner keeps failing), and their software is always nearly a year late and pretty unstable, aesthetically not to my taste, and doesn't fully support substratum.
Performance, especially in graphics, seems far weaker and unreliable in real world usage than other flagships that have the same chipset. For example, the Google Pixel 2016 can run real racing 3 at default graphics reasonably fluently. G6 on the other hand is almost unplayable at default settings, even at 1080p resolution.
The display however is gorgeous. Blacks look like from an Amoled display, it's reasonably bright and quite saturated. I just wish it was 1080p by design, for performance, brightness and battery gains. I don't notice a drop in visual quality when I use the adb command to change it to 1080p, and that's taking pixel interpolation into account. 1440p is really not necessary, and VR doesn't count because the IPS LCD technology introduces high motion blur in a VR situation compared to amoled.
I continue to love the design of the phone as well, and it's super tough. Drop onto concrete from shoulder height unprotected (oops) gave it no more than a scuff or two. Personally I would have made the top bezel as wide as the bottom bezel but whatever. Just means that 16:9 games and videos are offset to the side which is distracting for me.
TLDR: Don't let that screen to body ratio lure you in. It makes no difference. There are better options for the price these days.

If buying used (in very good condition), would you still say it is mediocre value for money? Assuming it is at least 25-35% cheaper than retail. And I would be coming from a G2 (running 7.1.2 and running it well).

My opinion of the phone has improved slightly since I wrote this, a factory reset improved its performance and fluidity a fair bit. Personally, right now I would get a Xiaomi mi A2 for $250 which is about how much you can get a used G6 for, just due to that clean software. However, the G6 is not bad for that price. Just make sure you factory reset it after installing all the available updates including oreo. And be prepared for graphics performance significantly weaker than other 821 phones, don't know why.
If you intend on playing anything that's more graphically-intense than Minecraft, I suggest you steer away from this phone. Game performance is so sloppy that Cytus II - a 2D game, mind you - can't even run at full speed.
Selfie camera makes you look like a painting. Back cameras are decent from my experience.
Battery life is alright, but you're gonna have to do a lot of weird stuff to make it last a day. Also, my iPhone 5s, which I had laying around since it was released in 2013, can last longer on standby, which says a lot.
In terms of custom rom support, I can't tell you a thing because my variant can't be bootloader unlocked.
I do not recommend this phone. Having had this phone for a year now, I have legitimate grounds to give my opinion on it. Get anything else.
TL;DR: Phone can't play graphically-intense games. Selfie camera sucks. Battery sucks. Don't buy.

I am not kidding. I never was, never will be. You can have your opinion, and I'll have mine. Was something lost in translation? If it's me you're referring to, I only said the selfie camera sucks. In my post I said, "The back cameras are decent from my experience."
The selfie camera is not good. At least mine isn't. I don't know if there are any differences between models in different countries. Even in the best of lighting, it still pales in comparison to the G4, which I had before this device.
They seem pretty competitive hardware wise (845 SD SOC versions for both). However, I was trying to weigh out overall user experience, software, and just first hand user experiences(are you happy with your decision? Would you still take the V35 over the S9+ given the chance today?)
When it comes to the LG V35's advantages I consider:
-Quad DAC (Huge plus for me, I use the V20 and thoroughly enjoy the high quality DAC and built in amplification)
-Current Price (seems to be dropping quite a bit)
Concerns I would have the LG V35:
-Timely software updates from LG(then again Samsung is not that much better in this aspect either)
-Long term Developer support... I respect and like the V35, however it is kind of a more niche/rarer phone, whereas the popular phones with a huge user base usually attracts more developers in the community for that phone.... I like to run the phone stock, but it's nice to have the option of continued support/upgrades through the community when the OEM drops support.

I've had every G series phone since the LG G2. The LG G4 was the worst as you know...
I sold the S9, not plus, back in Sept to buy the AT&T LG V35. I disliked the Samsung curved edge screen.
The V35 battery and DAC are great. Software updates are slow but it's too be expected from LG. I wish they kept the headphone jack on the bottom of the phone but I can live.
If you're going to run it stock it'll run smoothly especially after you debloat it.
I no longer care about flashing as it coincides with games not working if I don't use a work around. We'd need an unlocked blootloader anyways.

I came from a Pixel XL. It died a month or so ago. I'm on Google Fi and got the V35 for $500 ($700 minus a $200 service credit). Years ago I had a G2 and liked it a lot. I'm a little discouraged by the length of time updates take. On the Pixel XL they came first. I got Android Pie last October. Security fixes came out the first week of the month they were released. Not with LG. I just got the February security fix in late March. LG said that Android Pie would be leased for the V35 in the first quarter of 2019. Today is the last day of that quarter. I doubt it will come out today. But really, does it matter? The incremental changes are nice to have but quite small. Even from going from Oreo to Pie. As for developers, I rooted my G2 but I don't think it is really necessary now. Getting the V35 for half the price of a S9+ did it for me.

I would go with the samsung s9 plus.
I've owned the lg v30 (basically the same as the v35) for almost a year, then switched to the s9 for 2 months, switched back to the v30 for 1 month and I'm now using the s10 for a month now.
I loved my v30 but going back from the s9 to the v30 you realise samsung is in a league of its own. Its little details and annoyances but I'll sum some up.
What i love about the v30:
- design: I like the look of the v30 better. Gorgeous phone.
- love the v30 flat screen with minimal side bezels. Curved edges are annoying.
- double tap to turn the screen off and the knock code unlock are great software features i used alot.
- wide angle camera is awesome. Love it.
What i like better on the s9:
- screen: oleophobic coating on the s9 is way better. On the lg the smudges are very visible and they shift colors. Its visible when watching videos. On the samsung no such issues.
- screen itself: going back from s9 to v30 you do notice that the samsung amoled screen is better. If you've never had a samsung you wont realise it but going back you definitely do.
- camera: samsung s9 definitely better. Maybe the v30 can be great on manual mode but how many times do you actually use that. Its so much work.
On auto-mode the s9 photos look way better. Also at night. Shutter speed is wayyy faster on the s9 which also helps with getting sharp photos when the subject is moving,
Autofocus is also way better on the s9. Lg v30 photos have a higher risk of getting a crappy/blurred photo. Especially when the subject is moving. On paper the lg v30 camera looks great but in real life the s9 is alot better. Same goes for video. Im not a movie creator that edits all his videos and color grades them. Im a point and shoot guy and the s9 looks way better.
- front camera: Lg v30 front camera looks like its from the year 2014...... worst front camera on modern phone.
- samsung s9 has stereo speakers and Lg doesnt
- In my country samsung waranty is wayyyy better than lg.
- Samsung software works great. Samsung OneUi feels and looks very nice. Lg v30 feels very basic. Its fast and ok but i prefer samsung.
Also LG updates are very slow, still has not released android pie update.
- audio: quaddac on the v30 is awesome but honestly the s9 audio quality is also good. And the quaddac is actually only really useful when having very expensive quality headphones.
When you use regular good headphones you wont really notice anything.
-Also I noticed i started using bluetooth headphones and also use spotify, so the quaddac is useless for me.
Price: dont know where you live but the s9 plus is also cheaper here, maybe not as cheap as the v30 but i still rather have the s9 plus.
Ow and if you use snapchat, definitely get the s9 plus lol. The LG photos in snapchat are really bad. App is not optimised for LG.
So to sum it all up. If you want a great phone with the least annoyances and thats good at everything, get the s9 plus. Its a complete phone that can last you for years.

Thanks for that detailed response. Sums up my concerns, but you broke it down and mentioned the specifics first hand, appreciate it. I have a V20 and the front facing camera is pretty bad as well, I can't believe how over exposed it looks and how the details are filtered out, sad thing is, it's all processed in to make the person look more "prettier" but it just looks too fake.

I appreciate the responses and feedback from you guys. I suppose the lack of an unlocked bootloader is something to consider, though as it usually goes, it's usually just a matter of time until it gets unlocked(safe to assume?), then again going back to the "niche" of the V35, it's such a rare phone with somewhat significant updates(SD 845 with 6GB of RAM is pretty decent) to keep it relevant, though it was kind of like a knee-jerk reaction too. Reminds me of "AGILE" manufacturing, haha, which I'm sure took place behind the scenes. For the current prices that I see it for, it's gotten my attention, and I haven't written it off yet, but I'm not in a rush to get a new phone just yet, still researching and who knows, the V40 might drop even further( I really appreciate that nice boombox speaker they put in there).
edit: reading through the forums I see that runningnak3d is working on unlocking the bootloader, so looks like there will be some developer support afterall, which can give users an option to keep their phones updated, even if LG decides to stop giving updates.
I just got the V35 last week. Great device, highly recommended for the low price. Other reasons to pick LG over Samsung is Quickcharge 3.0 and wide angle camera. LG phones are underrated because reviewers assume retail price. But if you wait at least a few months after release date then LG devices are way, way cheaper. As far as software updates go both LG and Samsung are pretty bad. If timely Android updates matter best bets are either Pixel or OnePlus.

On auto-mode the s9 photos look way better. Also at night. Shutter speed is wayyy faster on the s9 which also helps with getting sharp photos when the subject is moving,
Autofocus is also way better on the s9. Lg v30 photos have a higher risk of getting a crappy/blurred photo. Especially when the subject is moving. On paper the lg v30 camera looks great but in real life the s9 is alot better. Same goes for video. Im not a movie creator that edits all his videos and color grades them. Im a point and shoot guy and the s9 looks way better.
- front camera: Lg v30 front camera looks like its from the year 2014...... worst front camera on modern phone.
- samsung s9 has stereo speakers and Lg doesnt
- In my country samsung waranty is wayyyy better than lg.
- Samsung software works great. Samsung OneUi feels and looks very nice. Lg v30 feels very basic. Its fast and ok but i prefer samsung.
Also LG updates are very slow, still has not released android pie update.
- audio: quaddac on the v30 is awesome but honestly the s9 audio quality is also good. And the quaddac is actually only really useful when having very expensive quality headphones.
When you use regular good headphones you wont really notice anything.
-Also I noticed i started using bluetooth headphones and also use spotify, so the quaddac is useless for me.
Price: dont know where you live but the s9 plus is also cheaper here, maybe not as cheap as the v30 but i still rather have the s9 plus.
Ow and if you use snapchat, definitely get the s9 plus lol. The LG photos in snapchat are really bad. App is not optimised for LG.
So to sum it all up. If you want a great phone with the least annoyances and thats good at everything, get the s9 plus. Its a complete phone that can last you for years.

Isn't the V35 better than the V30? Are you comparing the S9 to the V30 or V35? I'm sure it would make a difference?

- V35 has snapdragon 845 vs snapdragon 835 on V30
- Ram is 6gb on V35 vs 4gb on V30
- Wide angle camera is 16mp vs 13mp (main camera is exactly the same)
- Front Camera is better indeed.
Those are the differences.
If you read my experience, all the things i like the s9 better have not changed like screen and main camera and UI.
I did not complain about overall performance so snapdragon 845 and 6gb is great but snapdragon 835 with 4g was also good.
Same with wide angle, its better on v35 but I was allready happy with it, its in my positive list.
Only negative point in my v30 comparison is the front camera and that they did change so yes I cant compare that, I hope its way better now.
But what I do know is that samsung s9 has a great front camera also.

Screen is supposed to be better on the V35 vs the V30. LG had inconsistent quality screens on the V30, if you got a good one it was great but many did not. Regarding the main camera, the V35 is supposed to have the same one as the G7. I don't know how much better the G7 camera is vs the V30, though.

I luckily had a good screen, one of the later "improved" ones because the V30 got released here very late.
The main camera hardware specs are the same.
Camera software: Dxomark about the LG G7 "The only image quality category that shows a marked improvement over the V30 cousin is Color."
So everything else is the same.
This was the exact switch that I made recently S9+>V35. It was more boredom with the S9+ and I absolutely regret changing phones. It's not to say that the V35 is "bad", it's just that Samsung has done well honing their skills in smartphone design, especially with regard to S-AMOLED tech. The P-OLED panel on the V35 is no comparison. I've had a decade's worth of experience with AMOLED panels and the dreaded "panel lottery", so I speak from experience - I have never seen a bad panel on an S9...it's not to say they don't exist, but i've never seen one. LG's P-OLED tech is about on par with Samsung's AMOLED tech from maybe 5 years ago. I was unlucky and got a screen that's blue on the bottom and pink on top, of course the colors shift at even minute angle differences, so it depends how you hold it. Looking straight on it's distracting, but i'm just going to live with it vs. sending it back and being stuck without a phone for a week or two. All OLED panels have color shift to some degree, but it's much, much less noticeable on Samsung's most recent screens from what I can tell. If panel quality is high on your list, you might be disappointed with the V35.
Camera is another issue, compared to the S9 it isn't good. Zoomed in there's less detail, more noise, more purple fringing, and what seems like less ability to deal with very contrast heavy scenes. Dynamic range isn't the camera's strong suit. The wide angle lens to me is far more useful than the telephoto unit on the S9, but all things considered i'd rather have the better photos. As someone else mentioned, in auto mode it's harder to get a clear photo. With the S9, day or night, auto seems to almost always yield a good photo.
The DAC is nice, sound quality is excellent, but for me that's ultimately secondary, and nowhere near important enough to overlook the other flaws. The last of the main 3 being the software. I briefly had a G6 a couple years ago and i'm not sure why that experience faded from memory the way it did, but going back to LG's take on Android is a good reminder to stay away in the future. Again, it's not that it's "bad" per se, it's just that Samsung has so much of a better handle on making the OS usable and the features relevant. Little things like swipe gestures are absent on the V35 (hides nav buttons, swipe up in place for back/home/recents). There are other little additions Samsung adds that LG doesn't and I miss them. I'm not sure if Pie will bring dark backgrounds to the V35, if it does that will be a nice bonus. LG provides a "high contrast" mode, but for whatever reason it's just not as nice looking as the "night mode" option on the S9. The stereo speakers also make a very nice difference on the S9. The single speaker on the V35 is excellent for what it is.
I suspect I'll hold onto it until the S10 falls in price some, and then go back to Samsung.

DAC and price, the reason I got the v35 and v30.
Lg v35 ia way good then s9+. U get the extra features like DAC, Great OLED, great battery etc. I Know lg is very bad when it comes to the software updates but trust me u will be not happy with s9+. I had a s9+ but i was npt happy with that. Then i purchased a v35 and v40. I'm so happy with my two favorite phones
