Nope. You can't install gapps included in Android 8.1
Edit: API Level changes due to which the gapps from 8.1 won't work.

You'll never know till you try. Take a TWRP backup and try flashing them, if they didn't work then restore your backup.

No. I think it will still takes months before all LineageOS infratructure is up and running for automatic builds.

I installed the new "Messenger" app by Google and have it set as default, but I'm still not able to disable the stock "Messaging" app.
I'm running the build from 1/14/17 and I did a clean install with the nano open gapps package.
I was able to disable the stock "Phone" app and use the new Google "Phone" app, but for some reason this does not seem to work with "Messaging".

I have installed opengapps - the nano package - then installed Messenger from the Play Store, but still not able to.
Is there any way besides the stock option, I don't use most of those google apps anyways, though the nano package did not save much install space surprisingly ...

you can install opengapps stock and disable the apps that you not use. when you flash the gapps it will be installed on system, that's why there is NO difference in install space for apps

Seems like your system image was built not properly. Best way to make system images for stock-based ROMs is making system on device and getting system.img with dd. But you don't have Nexus 5X :/

When i am building it with assayyed kitchen it was showing me

file_contexts not found, your rom contains bug or it will not boot properly
So, i think this is why it is not booting !
When i am working on its developer preview 3, i have noticed that "build.prop" file was not there and the information was not showing in the kitchen
but in DP4 everything is there except "file_contexts"

It is forked from official LineageOS 15.1 , so everything should work as it's working in official version.
Download zip file 15kb file is for md5 verification.
How to make VoLTE work? i guess this rom doesn't support it so what zip file i have to flash?

UPDATE : Turns out VoLTE is present and working fine in this ROM its just that there's no HD or VOLTE in the notification or status bar.
Still need help with MAGISK though.

Wipe Cache/Dalvik, System and Data and flash the ROM you want.
I know the builds are automated, but I've been tryin builds occasionally, and the minimum CPU frequency is always stuck at 1689 mHz. Does anyone have a fix? I really want to get rid of Google without compromising too much but the ROM is unusable with all that battery drain.

If there is no option to wipe vendor then it cannot be called treble recovery.... don't worry just go ahead wipe everything that u can wipe... Then flash treble enabler.zip then gsi and then reboot then flash gapps then flash Fingerprint fix then install ims apk

I don't understand why everybody writes in the bug section "no bugs", if there are still a few known problems. That is not fair to the users!

So it is a bug! If I want to install a rom, I want to know what problems I have to expect, that is why users check the bugs section. That is why every second question is about fingerprint, ir, incall volume, echos... Don't you think that is stupid and could be solved, if these problems are mentioned in the bugs section? Or if a dev is too proud to put it in the bugs section (because of what you answered to me), what about a known problems section? Why is that a problem?

Totally agree with you.
I've tested this rom, it's beautiful and smooth, camera is the best!
I didn't try it's performance with games such PUBG.
Kindly fix below bugs:
1- Sound problem with headphones (Playing music and In-call).
2- FP isn't working.
3- In-call volume is either too loud or too low.
4- Free RAM is 900mb only, wounder why? in MIUI ROM we get 1.7GB free RAM with a full bunch of useless MIUI apps running in the background!

I've tested it, FP is working perfectly.
headphones not working (left is louder) as the incall volume is not adjustable
Best custom rom
This is one of the best custom roms out there if not the best. The only bugs keeping me away from it at the moment, as I've already tested it for a couple of weeks, are the in call volume and in call echo heard by the other side. Hope those will get fixed with the release of stable miui oreo.
