Charging speed - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Real Life Review

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.

Charge speed I'd say is good considering the battery size. ~ 2 1/2 hours for full charge according to my screen tests so far, and that is while using it too.

ya, after the first charge its not so bad.

Battery life is great, and idle batter loss is minimal compared with last two tab s's I'm not complaining about charging speed

Charging the Tab S4 takes me 3 - 3 1/2 hours for me from 0% using the stock fast charger from the box.

Qc4.0 or qc3.0

Not sure how fast it charges but since I can never drain the battery completely in a single day (usually at 20-30% by the time I go to bed with heavy use), I turned off fast charging and charge the tablet while I sleep. It`s always fully charged by the time I wake up and hopefully turning off fast charging increases the longevity of the battery over the course of a few years.

Yes, typo on my end. I've corrected my post.

Just tested with usb voltmeter from ali.
If screen is off then 9V, 1.5A (fast charge).
If screen is on - 5V, 1.5A. Not bad also, but can be better

Charging with the original Keyboard Cover
The charging time is normaly ok. But when the tablet is in the keyboard cover it takes a lot of time. More than 12 hours.
Any idea?
Thank you for your answer.

Got same problem... Don't know why. Any sensor maybe?

I find I have to switch my Tab S4 OFF to charge otherwise it will take all day. Switch it off and it charges from empty in arouns 2.5 hours.

Personally I don't have QC enabled on any of my devices. I plan on buying the Korean 256/6GiB LTE version to replace my Note 8 in the next 2 months for visual/screen usage reasons. Since I don't believe in letting the battery drain below 30% (it's better for devices), I will be charging it normally without QC to see how it fairs. Typically devices are shipped from factory anywhere from 50~80% charge state.
Though not to mention that having a "to spec" charger and USB-C cable is important for proper QC function if you're using that.

Is it just me or the S8 charge slow. I'm coming from a Note 5 and it charges pretty damn quick. Right now I'm at 53% and the phone says approximately 55 minutes till full.
Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
That sounds about right.
Fast charging is great when the phone is at a low percentage, as the percentage increases the charging speed decreases.
Overall charge from 0% should be 1 hour 30 minutes -ish or somewhere in that range.
Test it.
It definitely charges slow, my 8+ included. There's a conversation about it on the Samsung support forum. It's definitely not intended behavior, as it'll still charge slow at low percentages. It never reaches the 2000mA rate that it should.

Based on my testing (I'll verify again tonight with pictures)
Quick charge 2.0/3.0
Screen on - 5v/1A
Screen off 9v/1.67A
USB C cable charging
Screen on 5v/1.5A
Screen off 9v/1.8A
The phones are QC 2.0 which means they're limited to I believe max 18 watts charging rate which would be 9v/2A with the screen off

Yeah Samsung for some reason did not activate QC 3.0 or even 4.0 on the S8(so stupid but seeing the NOte 7 battery issue, they're probably being cautious)
The S6 only had a 2550mAh battery vs the S8 that has a 3000mAh battery so yeah the S6 is definitely going to charge "faster"
Pick up a USB C multi-meter and see what the charger is outputting to your phone
This is the one I bought (I am not affiliated with them - just showing which one I purchased)

Both are enabled and while charging it says it's fast charging. It even gives a reasonable charge time like 52 minutes, but even the estimate is off by a lot.

Phone charges slow. My watt meter doesn't get anything over 13.3watts. Note 5 could easily hit 15watts.
Phone charges MUCH slower than my OnePlus 5, same chip, but Note only has quickcharge 2.0 for some reason, whilst the OP% has their version of quick charge 4, dash charging, which is insanely faster.
So slow -_-
Battery is way too small !!
Around 1000 mA or considerably less with screen on around 2000 mA with screen off (AccuBattery).
Anyone knows the exact model of the black EU Note 8 official charger please? And how many watts?
This is unacceptable charging speeds.... at 42% an hr and 5 mins?!!?
It takes about 1:40 hrs to charge from 3% to 100% on my phone. I wish it was faster but I really don't mind it.
Wireless Charging takes way longer than through USB
anyone else getting better battery life after disabling fast charging?
It's about 1 hr 45 mins to charge it from 1% to 100%. Don't believe some reviews online. Especially the one posted by Danny Widget. I am not sure what issue caused that but I'm pretty sure it's faster than that.

Using the essential quick charger. I get from 1% to 100% in 40 minutes.
From essential phone? What's the wattage?
I got a 3.0 charger and type c cable and my phone charges much faster than the plug and cable it came with. Invest in one people. I called Samsung mobile support yesterday and asked them does it support 3.0 QC and they said yes. I know it's been going around that it does not but it does.

I seem to get better battery life. I disabled it 2 days after owning it. Not sure if that makes a difference. Would like to see if anyone else is seeing the same.
You know what all day I have been doing research on the Note 8 and 3.0 Quick Charge. Samsung told me that the Note8 supports 3.0 QC. But everything else I have read says no it has 2.0. Which sucks because my V20 had 3.0 QC. I am telling you my V20 charged faster way faster than the Note8. But my battery life is way better with the Note8. I usually don't have to charge my Note8 at all throughout the day. So does it really matter? No but it does suck that Samsung has not stepped up their game and put 3.0 QC on this 1,000 dollar phone.

hi guys,
I have recently bought this smartphone and I have one question. When I use its own charger the default mode of charging is fast charging but I don't want always to use fast charging since it's not good for the battery life-time. Is there anyway I can do to disable fast charging?
thanks

Hi. I have just bought this phone and it was all fine. I needed another charger for work so bought a 3Rd party one. It was fine the first few times, but now when I connect it the phone automatically shuts down and will not start again. According to the tech that checked it out, the battery was completely flat.
I suspect I can only use a OEM charger. Really inconvenient.
Nokia lie about fast charge between 0 % to 50 % in 30 minutes . I tested it many time 50 minutes to charge 50 %

Not true. I have never used the OEM charger. Fast charging is tough on the battery as others have said. I have several other chargers (one came with my audio chromecast, one came with an old HTC phone, one is a no-name charger). They are rated anywhere from 1 amp to 1.9 amps. All have worked perfectly. At work I leave my phone on my desk so leaving it plugged in until charged regardless of how long it takes is no big deal. I also make sure to take it off charge once it reaches 100%. It is not good to leave it on charge when full.
More than 2 amps at 5vdc are overkill for the battery and it's causing nothing but a superfast degradation but hey we have superfast charge on a cheapster ...

I'm using an old Aukey QC2.0 charger that I bought 3 years ago for my Zenfone2, it charges quick too. Using a meter I checked that the Nokia charger is using QC3.0 and for instance can charge at 6V/2A or about whatever voltage it wants, but my QC2.0 charger is 5/9/12V only and with a meter I checked it is charging at 9V and ~1.6A. My car charger is also a QC2.0 charger and works too, on the lock screen is it written "fast charging" and yes, it does.
The chargers I use daily for 3 years now (I have the old 2.0 version but now they are 3.0 version)

so practically using QC 2.0 and QC 3.0 got same charging speed? so what is the advantage of using QC 3.0? can anyone give some info?
QC2.0 is something like 5V/2A, 9V/2A and 12V/1.5A, while QC3.0 voltage range is wider, something like 5V to 20V, requested by the device, it can be 6V/3A for instance. Battery management is better I guess.

With original charger+cable, the speed is pretty good, surely way faster than my Samsung S7.
Way faster than my previous s9 plus
I figured out there are 3 different charing modes, normal charge, fast charge and SuperCharge...

Supercharge mode, which is the fastest possible, requires BOTH a compatible battery charger AND a compatible cable. Usually , cables have purple plug. Non-compatible systems can charge at fast charge speed, which is like quickcharge 3. Thanksfully, neither the charger nor the cable are very expensive.
When the battery is lower than 30%, I usually get 4,5V and 5A (measured with a device, not an app) which is what the plug says
It also takes 9V and more than 2A from my Power Delivery Charger, which is pretty good
Only with the adapter and cable that came with it it is super charging.. if I use Samsung's fast charging set up or any other set up it is only charging, slow!!!
Very disappointing.
Hello there.
I was wondering if there is an option for non-supercharge in android oreo settings.
I want to know that because i think that with supercharge, the battery life will reduce faster.

I wouldn't worry too much about it Otherwise, just use a different cable or charger than the stock one and Supercharging will stop working.

9V1A is nowhere near supercharging levels (4.5V5A or 5V4.5A)... its 9W compared to 22.5W of power!
Never used a Power Delivery Charger personally, and if it only does 9V1A, I won't anytime soon! A standard Huawei charger gives more power (5V2A - 10W)! And Huawei doesn't use the most common standard...Qualcomm Quick Charge, so we don't have have a wider variety at all!
for a first time user with a fast charge/ dash charge i'm really impress with the charging rate.
Fast charge with original charger and cable. about 30mins I went from 25 to about 86ish%
Charging works well for me.
Large Apple Charger, 80W Fast charges
Huawei Original Super Charges
Oneplus 5 Dash charger Charges normally
Galaxy S5 charger with a different cable - charges normally
Haven't measured the volt and A
Does any one know what the actual charging standard is called on a "technical" level?
Super-charge is hardly a tech spec

Believe it's close to 4000mA I think..
That's supercharging..but it'll lower as you gradually get higher..so speeds at 90% will be lower than at 10%
Coming from OnePlus3 - 0% to 60% in 30 min (tested many times), I am not impressed by the Huawei P20 pro supercharging...
Tested again today, I got from 9% to 45% in 30 min.
Huawei claims the P20 pro will do 0% to 85% in 45 minutes.
I got from 9% to 80% in 1 hour!
I am on the latest Pie Rom - 9.0.0.195 and using the original charger + cable.
Any suggestions? I don't have any other huawei charger to test with...
Also on a "regular" good quality charger (in the car) it is slower then the OnePlus3 (and I do realize it is 4000 vs. 3000 mAh capacity battery), but still feels much slower...

Samsung S10 has 15W fast charging. Itseems that it can charge quickly than the previous version of s series.
It irks that adaptive fast charging remained unchanged from last year and hurts that faster 25W is exclusive to the 5G model .

I was told that the Galaxy S10 would be capable of 25 watt charging. The advertisement I watched said 0-50% in 30 minutes, and hell my Galaxy S9+ does that. I mean, if there is literally a 0% increase in charging speed I will be just fine. My battery lasts all day (I run medium power saver) and I just charge it at night when I am asleep. I have been as high as 40% charge when I hook it up and last night I was at like 13% and that is the lowest it has been ever, so I really do not feel this will be an issue.

I believe that was the case. 5G model only.

You see I know how many Samsung fans there are out there but... failing to surpass the limits of 3 years ago and give us anything better than what we can expect from QC 2 while employing the latest latest in Snapdragon chipsets is clearly pathetic. People spending more than a grand deserve more. They are just holding back on implementing it for future phones requiring something to look forward to. All I'm saying is paying for the chipset and the flagship should win you the actual real-world benefits of something Qualcomm has put the road map since 2015. After all it was the taking point for years.

You are right, it has 15W charger BUT, if you charge via USB-PD charger, the device pulls 20W when the screen is off, and 10W if you use the device, I just tested that wuth Omnicharge battery with USB-PD so it should be about 30% faster when using USB-PD

So you're saying the S10 somehow supports 20W charging? Which charger do I need for that?

Yes, this is what I metered with the external battery. What you need is 20W or above USB-PD compatible charger, for example from laptop or whatever other device you have that uses USB-PD charger. I have the Exynos version and the phone's adapter is no go, it is only 9V 1.67A...
The 5G version officially supports 25W as I recall but there is nothing mentioned about the 4G normal version
