Upgrade A501 - Acer Iconia A500

Hello all,
Im posting here because no one seems to be able to answer me in the Android General section, I hope to get better chances here
I would like to upgrade my IconiaTab A501 because most of applications are not compatible with my version (as it says).
It is Android 4.0.3 and I would like to upgrade to the lastest one.
I have tried to do the system update but it always says "the network cover is too low please move to another place" to get better cover. I have read on internet that this message means it cant be upgraded by itself thus we need to find another way as it does not concern wifi but just Acer stopped to develop firmware for Iconia tab A501.
I saw that its now Android 9.1 but i am not sure it can be installed in my tablet and too much customs firmwares exist but I really don't know which one is the most stable and can run all apps.
Could you guys please help me to know which is the lastest Android version i can install in my A501? Or one that can make me run all apps normally?
Also my image is Acer_AV041_A501_RV20RC08_WW_GEN1
Thanks for your help

Your going to have to root and unlock the bootloader, the newest version of Android for this tablet is 5.1.1

Thank you
Thank you very much for your help!
Thats the only thing i wanted to know thanks again

Thank you very much and sorry for the late reply i was on holidays
I saw Lolipop 5.1.1 was not really stable so I try installing ICS 7.2.0 that u gave which look very stable as i saw on forums.
To get my CPUID, I have followed the steps below:
open yr file explorer, esfile explorer is a great one....
navigate to:
/sys/firmware/fuse/acer_cpuid - add a zero to the front!!! easy peasy
I sent u my CPUID on pm (I do not know if its confidential or not, as maybe its a thing that shoudnt be posted on forum)
Does it looks like a CPUID to you? (I am wondering because on the video below it shows something different)
I thought about using this tuto:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVLCNXf_QoI
But its not exactly same files he is using as the one you sent me. Do you know, by any chance, where i can find the install tuto with the blackthunder's files you sent me?
Thank you very much again for all your help

Yes that does look like your cpuid but you need to convert it to an sbk. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810618

Hi Turnert,
Thanks for your reply. Is the SBCalc.exe safe? It has been quarantined by my antivirus looks like it contains: W32\Exploit.gen
Do you know anything else that can convert my cpuid into SBK? (I'll search deeper on my side the time you reply just in case )
Also is the video tuto above good to root with the files i Have or you know a written tuto that matches my request?
Thanks again for your help and have a good day

Ok I got my SBK using this website: http://acerhacks.com/sbkcalc/
I will wait to know your answer about the tuto above if i can use it or if you know a good one with same file I have or a one that describes step by step everything
Again and i think you know it, thanks !

It should be.zip, not tar. You downloaded a kernel, not rom.

How to Install Android on HTC HD2? - Step-by-Step Guide

I've been searching around for quite a bit now and can't find a guide that's easy enough for me to understand.
I'm trying to install this ROM on my HD2: (Android 4.0.4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860
I've read through it multiple times but can't figure out what are they steps I need to follow in order to get it running. I also tried the search function and couldn't find anything I could easily understand. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm really new to this stuff.
So, does anyone know of a good, simple step-by-step guide to to install Android on the HD2? Thanks! :good:
Installing Android is pretty tricky for beginners.
When I first started, this was the guide that helped me the most:
http://www.htchd2android.com/how-to/how-to-install-android-on-htc-hd2-android-4-0-4/
It's really easy to follow and helped me tremendously. I used their 4.0.3 guide back when I did mine, but that one looks to be very similar and uses a newer version.
Hope that works out for you. :good:
Thanks for the link, I haven't really had time to look through it yet but I'll be sure to check it out now.
BTW, is that a good ROM to use or would you suggest another one? Thanks again.

[Q] Upgrade A500 to Acer_A500_041.205.01_COM_GEN2 Rom

Sorry for opening a new thread but the search was failed for that specific rom.
I bought a A500 from a friend of mine with the HC 3.2.1 build Acer_A500_7.014.02_COM_GEN2 and the OTA propose the upgrade to Acer_A500_041.205.01_COM_GEN2.
Now the tablet is not rooted and other but I don't knows what I'll need tomorrow. Do you believe that if I accept the update in the future I'll be in the pickle?
I don't want to cry in the future only bacause today I've accepted too quick.
Is there something I've to pay attention to?
Thanks
Some folks experienced wifi disconnects with the ics OTA....that's about it, lol....a lot of folks got stuck on the acer boot screen after the update, which means using an EUU to downgrade to HC to get booting again.
My advice....get yr cpuid now, if things go bad yr cpuid is the only thing that will save you. You can take the OTA if you have trouble you can get yourself sorted bbut only if you have yr cpuid! !!
I'd also backup your files, photos etc and do a format (factory data reset in Settings) and give yr system a nice clean start.
You can flash skrilax_cz v8 bootloader, this enables you to install custom ics/jb roms and a recovery so you can nandroid
backup.
There are sticky' 's and guides galore, you have a lot of reading to do to get the most of your iconia....
Hope this helps a bit

Thanks for the tip but you forgot the most important advise in my case:
"don't leave the tablet at home with your wife using it!"
This should be mandatory because when you come back home you'll find a new tablet. When the tablet ask to your wife if she desider upgrade the os, don't mind your raccomandation: <Do Not Accept> she think: <why not?> especcially with 40% of battery and wifi not stable and in poor cover!
In other words the upgrade was done!
2 advantages:
1 - fixed the problem doing or not the upgrade
2 - I saw the tablet in use after the upgrade and I didn't spent a lot of time asking myself if it will be briket at the end ... all was fine :good:
Now the new OS is:
Android Version: 4.0.3
Kernel version: 2.6.39.4+
Image version: Acer_AV041_A500_RV05RC01_PA_CUS1
Build number: Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1
Image P/N: FM.S14A0.00Y
It seems to work fine except for the OS language that is mandatory to select English: I'm Italian but this language was present in HC and no more here. The right punishment to my wife! I don't know if it is possible to add the Italian, is it possible?
Following your suggestion I got the CPUid reading the file /sys/firmware/fuse/acer_cpu_id am I right?
Now following to your suggestion i'll start to surf internet for some good basic guide to squeeze the best from my Iconia.
Saving the contained data is not an issue for the moment. the Iconia was 5 days old and no significative data are there.
My first planned step will be the rooting and I thought to follow ...orum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=350
Is it the right choice with my new OS?
In the future probably I'll step up to JB but for doing that I need some good reading. Can you suggest a good starting point for a newbie as I am?
Thank in advance

There are 3 guides in my sig...even tho u have yr cpuid have a read of that guide, lots of updates and general info there.
Civato's unlocked bootloader sticky and any of his custom roms
Blackthund3r has sticky of all stock roms. He also has some good info on his site if you can get to it.
acer hasn't updated this thing for a year so custom roms are the way to go...I'm still using cm10 flex rom does everything i need it to and runs flawlessly. ..but it is a matter of personal taste so just try one and see.
Remember: rooting does not give you the ability to install a custom recovery, you need the v8 for that
Good luck!!

If I well understood there are 2 different methods. The 1st use the tool 7.1.1 that could work or not (explained here xxtp://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=350). If it doesn't it's mandatory follow the 2nd one that is more complex (explained here xxtp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823421)
Am I in the right path?
About the ICS root 7.1.1 tool I plan to activate all the option except the last one (Don't Reboot after installation ...) and I plan to remove AcerNidus. Do you agree?

problem rooting S5369

HI guys, I was looking at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085390 about rooting the S5360 (I have a s5369) but when I try to flash the update included in the thread I get an error, screenshot attached (the error says E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip (status 7) Installation aborted)
Any idea?
Try this one instead, otherwise I will edit the updater-script of your package to make it compatible with your model. I think that you will able to install GT-S5360 ROMs on it, but can you give me technical details about your phone ?
Regards
Hi thank you for that. I tried your link but I don't seem to be able to download anything from there, it's just an empty blank page (not sure if the mega protocol isn't supported or what). If you could put it elsewhere I'll download and try it.
What technical details would you like me to give you? ANdroid version etc? GT-S5369, android 2.3.6, kernel 2.6.35.7
Let me know if you need anything else
thank you for your help

Thanks mate, unfortunately even that link doesn't work, the page times out (tried yesterday and today with same result in different browsers). As for more details, I downloaded CPU-z and took some screenshots, attached, hopefully that will help you, let me know if you need more:
You will able to install normally GT-S5360 roms, they have the same specs. I joined the root access enable ZIP package. If I helped you, don't hesitate to use the little button below or if you need something else tell me !

Yes, you're now rooted ! Check the GT-S5360 development subforum and you will find a lot of ROMs, but for CyanogenMod, every ported version (7,9,11) has its specific bugs and you will need to choose the one which suits you. If you need any help, just mention me on your post ! Regards.
