It should be.zip, not tar. You downloaded a kernel, not rom.

I think there's a link to an RUU file somewhere in this forum. Search around.

I saw the RUU, but I thought that was the RUU for the original 2.2. I didn't think it included the OTA update.

Ah, I don't think it does, but this forum has instructions for manually pushing that update.
I think someone around here also posted a nandroid of oem, so if you root and install clockwork recovery you can nandroid back that way.
I was hoping for a stock rom post OTA just so it would make it easier for me to attempt to customize my own rom. I wanted to make a senseless barebones version of the stock OS for myself. I'm very new to rom building so I figured a post OTA rom was the easiest way to start.

No worries, we just get A LOT of redundant questions on this board so it's a good habit to search first.
Please post questions in Q&A section.
At 25.11.2010 there is no RUU with 2.2.1 (build version more than : 1.14.531.1)
T-Mobile promises it, but not post yet

learn to read and search please. go to the thread called wildpuzzle.
Thank sir, I just gone through those steps and feel complicated for me.
Not so confidence how to do it.
However, thank for quick reply and support since the breakdown question.
Cheers!
If you need a step by step guide as to how to install WildPuzzle (Or any Custom ROM for that matter), you can refer this very detailed guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
If, after reading that, you still cant do it, I guess you are better off sticking to the stock ROM and HTC Supplied updates.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the tips, I'll do more googling before I start to do so. Too early to say better off my friend, cos just start up, will learn and will try to do.
Cheers,
I just read your first post, and, if you have updated to official 2.2.1, there's nothing you can do anymore, because, you can't root your phone anymore till Unrevoked is updated.
Hard Luck
Oh...anyways, thanks for your information. I stick around the forum, to see what more can I do.
You all got my respect!

HTC HD2 - Changing to Android. Pls Help

Hi,
I have just purchased a new HTC HD2 on T-Mobile (U.K.) and I am loving it !
I am a total novice and wish to change from Windows 6.5 to the better latest Android OS.
Can anyone please tell me how to do this? I have no idea what I am doing and do not want to do something which may jeopardise the phone (I do know that it does affect the warranty) The only thing I know about 'Flash' it flashing my mobile in public.
I would really like if someone can give me Step by Step instructions via a video so I can see what I am doing.
Any feedback would be really appreciated.
Many thanks

Don't rush anything. Make sure you have a good idea about what you're doing and what you can do if things go wrong. If you're unsure about anything just use the search feature first and if you're still iffy about something, ask a question.

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be. Just follow the instructions given to you in your previously started thread about the same thing. The link to MSkip gives you detailed instructions on how to install Android on your HD2 and how to revert back to WM6.5 if you so desire.

Thanks for the reply. What is the latest version of Android for HTC HD2? The link you gave me, is that the latest version?
Google is your friend. Haven't used it in a while. If you are that unsure of flashing Android to your HD2 just buy an Android powered phone. Sorry to be so brash but just follow the instructions.

I'll try to explain a bit. First off you've got to install the things that let you install Android in the first place (HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM etc) and after that you install a ROM. A ROM is the thing that will decide what version of Android you phone will have. If you don't like the ROM you have, or if you just want the newest version of Android, all you have to do is change it. You don't have to re-install everything again, just your ROM.
You might have to change your CWM partition size when you choose a new ROM, but the chef (person who made the ROM) will let you know what size you need in the thread. This is also easy and doesn't require you to re-install everything. Don't worry if you don't know what a CWM partition is because it'll make sense eventually.

You can use pretty much any guide and while I have nothing against mengfei's guide I personally found the one in my sig to be the clearest to follow. It's essentially an updated version of the one you linked in the OP. You only have to follow the steps from flashing CWM onwards as you'll need to change the partition size but everything else should be fine as it is.

Upgrade A501

Hello all,
Im posting here because no one seems to be able to answer me in the Android General section, I hope to get better chances here
I would like to upgrade my IconiaTab A501 because most of applications are not compatible with my version (as it says).
It is Android 4.0.3 and I would like to upgrade to the lastest one.
I have tried to do the system update but it always says "the network cover is too low please move to another place" to get better cover. I have read on internet that this message means it cant be upgraded by itself thus we need to find another way as it does not concern wifi but just Acer stopped to develop firmware for Iconia tab A501.
I saw that its now Android 9.1 but i am not sure it can be installed in my tablet and too much customs firmwares exist but I really don't know which one is the most stable and can run all apps.
Could you guys please help me to know which is the lastest Android version i can install in my A501? Or one that can make me run all apps normally?
Also my image is Acer_AV041_A501_RV20RC08_WW_GEN1
Thanks for your help
Your going to have to root and unlock the bootloader, the newest version of Android for this tablet is 5.1.1
Thank you
Thank you very much for your help!
Thats the only thing i wanted to know thanks again

Thank you very much and sorry for the late reply i was on holidays
I saw Lolipop 5.1.1 was not really stable so I try installing ICS 7.2.0 that u gave which look very stable as i saw on forums.
To get my CPUID, I have followed the steps below:
open yr file explorer, esfile explorer is a great one....
navigate to:
/sys/firmware/fuse/acer_cpuid - add a zero to the front!!! easy peasy
I sent u my CPUID on pm (I do not know if its confidential or not, as maybe its a thing that shoudnt be posted on forum)
Does it looks like a CPUID to you? (I am wondering because on the video below it shows something different)
I thought about using this tuto:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVLCNXf_QoI
But its not exactly same files he is using as the one you sent me. Do you know, by any chance, where i can find the install tuto with the blackthunder's files you sent me?
Thank you very much again for all your help

Yes that does look like your cpuid but you need to convert it to an sbk. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810618
Hi Turnert,
Thanks for your reply. Is the SBCalc.exe safe? It has been quarantined by my antivirus looks like it contains: W32\Exploit.gen
Do you know anything else that can convert my cpuid into SBK? (I'll search deeper on my side the time you reply just in case )
Also is the video tuto above good to root with the files i Have or you know a written tuto that matches my request?
Thanks again for your help and have a good day
Ok I got my SBK using this website: http://acerhacks.com/sbkcalc/
I will wait to know your answer about the tuto above if i can use it or if you know a good one with same file I have or a one that describes step by step everything
