MIUI 10 android Oreo official announcement - Xiaomi Mi 5s Guides, News, & Discussion

http://en.miui.com/thread-3261609-1-1.html
"Dear Mi 5s Users,
We all understand that all Mi 5s users are waiting Android oreo along with our faster than light MIUI 10. We are trying to give our best to all of MIUIers. Unfortunately, it is difficult to upgrade android oreo for Mi 5s because of it's fingerprint modules. As we known , Mi 5s is powered by Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint and there is some technical issue for Android Oreo. We have already sent Research & Development Staff to the relevant Team to find the solution. So, our MIUI Teams contacted with Qualcomm Team as our original plan. We actively researched and developed with Qualcomm Team to fix this issue and After nearly two weeks of efforts, our specialist development Team found the best solution to upgrade Android Oreo for our lovely Mi 5s.
Now, MIUI R&D specialists are working together with Qualcomm R&D experts to start intense development and adoption work. During this period, there will be more underlying code changes. For a better stability, it will take a little time to develop. Since the underlying code part needs more adjustments, it is expected that the upgrade time will be in early November 2018 and we will speed up the progress to complete the adaptation work as soon as possible!
Thanks you all Mi 5s users for your patient . We also found fake news /Rumors on some blogs and web. We are sure that Mi 5s is one of our development devices. Please stay tuned on forum for more informations."

I wonder if this is relevant, or interesting:
https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/07/...-plus-continues-update-may-arrive-in-october/
In Chinese forum, the sotry was:
Before July:
Rumors: No Oreo update! Some users believed but some not.
July 2 - 8: Like the link said, many users complained in the forum (some deleted by admin), weibo (comment under every post by Lei Jun).
July 8: Mi 5s plus got update in Oct, Mi 5s is under discuss with qualcomm. The reason (or excues) was the dual camera in Mi 5s Plus and the figure print scanner in Mi 5s.
July 18: We mi 5s will have oreo in Nov.
Though the story could just be that they planned to, just had a delay. We will never know, but they definitely claimed "we've made some progress, but no conclusion come out yet"(i.e. there might be no oreo for Mi 5s) on July 8th.
We believe the reason is that there are fewer users for these 2 phones, that also explains that there's no Mi 6s/plus. Also, maybe Qualcomm/Xiaomi don't want to maintain the fingerprint any more, because it has reached the dead end anyway.

Delays for a terrible fingerprint reader that is probably the slowest from all the other Xiaomi devices ?

The scanner isn't slow, but it is super weird, you can't use other fingers, just your thumbs in some possition, you have to apply pressure, but if you manage to do all that then you're good.

You mean the angle of your finger? I could use thumb and index finger, didn't try others. The angle/possion of the finger is strange. This was my first phone with fingerprint scanner, so I don't know about it usually works. It seems that you should be able to use the scanner in any direction. I'm using mi band for unlock, and rarely using fingerprint(only for payment in google play)

Yes, I'm talking about the angle, if you put your thumb like horizontally, then it won't work vertically, and in any other scanner the position won't matter.

Any news on when we getting Oreo?

What the tittle says
Yes there is, we'll get it in 2 months period.
Any ideas why so long? Sony already got it and they are skinned as well as others are close behind like Samsung with their beta tests and htc why is this one taking so long to push since it is almost pure?

Sony have a much bigger dev team, plus sony has a large community of devs and testers that work for free since they release all their code to open source.
But is this not like the purest of Android ... On paper it should be just plug test and play for the A1?
In principle, yes. But I going by the apparent fact that Google isn't in charge of software but xiaomi is, my guess is that is the reason why there is no oreo yet...
I presume. I've heard good things for this company let's see how this phone will hold up to what people say
I think that the Andorid One topic is quite new for them (too) and they just have to collect their experience first so I'm pretty sure for the following updates they will get more and more routine so this is just the beginning....
With Android One, doesn't Google control the OS updates like in Pixel. We get security fixes along with Pixel
Android one suppose to be the first device after pixel and nexus to get Oreo.
Devices are getting beta version or something of Oreo.
And we are just waiting ,
Don't want to rush anything but atleast a official comment on the Oreo for android one would be grate...
They says by the end of this year, its mean December, calm down
I have a friend working in Mi China and he says their Target is indeed for December 2017. So let's just all chill out till then.
From what I guess Google isn't really controlling the updates of mi a1. STOCK android doesn't support capacitive nav bars and a IR sensor too. Moreover there are dual cameras on this phone. So mi has to so tweaks to accommodate all this. That's why it must be taking some time.

There is nothing like this. Android one is a program which ensures every updates not faster updates. So keep calm. They will release it by 31st Dec.
The update chain is not that what u r thinking right now.
Google - Processor manufacturers - OEMs - Beta testers - OEM - Public Release.
As far as what I've seen and heard on mi community discussions some guy had posted a pic of his discussion with one of the representatives from Xiaomi. It said that they werent sure on when they are going to release the update as they haven't finalized the date yet. They said that it could be in late january 2018

If a random representative said that, must be true
I would give them 2-3 days more before I start having my doubts . They've said by end of December ..so no point rushing unless . Just hope there aren't any major bugs in the beta

The Mi 6S/7

So I was abit surprised there has been no announcement for their next follow up. Im guessing they're not taking the OnePlus route I.e. same specs different design.
I had a hunch they are waiting for the snapdragon 845 and turns out I was right. http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/12/05/news-snapdragon-845-exists/
So who will be getting their next flagship. I most likely will because of specs and price ratio. Hopefully they have a much better camera. I found the Mi 5S to have a better camera thab the Mi 6. The olmain downside is waiting a few months (6) for kernel sources.
If they release with Oreo then project Treble unless they do a sly move like OnePlus and release with Nougat to avoid Treble.
Kernel sources will be released at release time from now on.
Wait, what? Do you mean when the phone is available to buy, kernel sources will be published also?

Yes, I've talked with Ivan and he said that they intend to release sources at time of device release from now on to improve their global market.

Too early. Still a lot of speculation.
There aren't a lot of news about SD845 as of today. And looking back how I anticipate Mi 6 release, there were lots of misinformation floating around from one site to another. And in the end, Mi6 is almost different from the rumor I read.
As long as they release a Ceramic Mi7, I'm all in.
Those of you who voted no, whats your reason(s)?
Display size
I will only buy when they release kernel source max 2 months after phone released and it will be cheaper ca 100 USD than otp 6.
If not , I will buy otp 6. I can't imagine, based on mi6 story , to wait 9 months for lineageos and I can't imagine to use crappy MIUI soft.
Well, it depending on how big development on mi 7. If there is a lot dev who bought it, and I'm in.
Still no news :/
So what do you lot think about the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE?
For me only mi 8 explorer edition is option and only after kernel released
Two others, for that price I would rather buy op6

Apparently it doesn't have a translucent back, its a sticker so I'll probably go for the standard model and the SE depending on how much the resellers are charging.

Mi A1 android 8.1?? May 5,2018

Why Xiaomi Mi A1 still not on android 8.1? Xiaomi should have a voice for Google to solve the user, or just a few should also be the direction of choice for users such as creating a MIUI version for Mi A1, because whether GG has the software development, But Xiaomi understands most of his products.
U bought mi a1 because of stock Android, if u want MIUI u should have bought a mi 5x
I was wrong to buy xiaomi mi a1. But xiaomi should also give the user the MIUI option on Mi A1. Google will abandon Mia1 ?

This is the worst community I've stumbled across, and I've been long time xda member...Are you people real? Why do you want 8.1 update so bad, it's nothing major except few not so important features. There is a leaked 8.1 available at xda so we can expect 8.1 on our devices soon, maybe next month. That leaked version has some bugs, so when they fix them we will receive 8.1
You want fastest updates? Buy Pixel or use Custom ROMs and stop ruining community with same nonsense again and again.
If you want 8.1 so bad you can flash latest leaked version, I'm using it and have 0 problems with it, it's my daily driver untill official comes.

Never really understood why its so important to have the latest software. You can run android 5.1 and still have support for basically all software. Anything after lollipop basically looks and works the same. And miui is being ported.
Me, for example, I would buy Mi5X, but it is not available in my country and doesnt have LTE freqs for me, so I bought MiA1, but I am sad about the device. I would love to have stable MIUI on this device.
I would love this device, but battery life is just sad, Google apps use so much battery, especially Photos, they used 15% in 30 mins (and I was just staring at one picture, it wasnt even syncing, it was just idle).

Well, I suffer some bugs at the current state of our stock ROM. Camera has a lot of flickering, battery life not that good and I also got issues with deep sleep when device doesn't sleep at all when it is locked and I dont even have almost any app installed... not sure if Oreo 8.1 will fix it, but I hope that Android P will and will also bring bigger support for our dual camera setup.

MiA1 is up to date looking other Android one phone
Xiaomi is working on it we have the may security patch and a 8.1 beta build !
Why those people are complaining ? The phone is working great it have a damn good battery, good camera, CPU, ram etc....
200€ for this is great deal and my previous phone was a 500€ Nexus 6
For the price I have nothing to complain about

Actually the thing is their is too much competition in Asian market, and particularly in India the price of the phone is about ₹15K, a price band where most of Indian buy phones, So competition is tough and we have good alternative available in market unlike Western Market. Maybe €200 is not big amt. In your country, but is is big amount in India. And no one had forced Xiaomi to price it lower, they were free to do that, they priced low its their problem now. Nokia 5 Runs 8.1( almost same price) and we also except same as we also Purchased Android One device. Anyways it coming next month anyways.:angel:

Dude... Nokia 5 specs cannot be compared with mi a1. If they share the same price so mi a1 is way better in terms of value for money. Considering we have the latest OS from google (oreo), receive monthly security patches, have a beta build with 8.1 (which is not a big deal since we already have oreo and it's very stable with minimal bugs) and have these powerful specs and build quality then good job Xiaomi.
Stop crying about 8.1.. seriously this is getting ridiculous.

Don't make it what you want to make of it. People keep saying that you have to buy pixel for fast updates, or they give pricing a reason for this. I am just telling them that Nokia gives updates much faster to even the mid range phones. Just telling them that price excuse is lame
Their are bugs believe it or not, charging time has increased from April Patch, the phone becomes like a fireball in hand even when I play PUBG on minimum graphic within one round, And the biggest problem is that the Moderator of their Community, even doesn't reply to these if you post it their, communication is a big problem from Xiaomi's side from starting. People keep asking for 8.1, but AFAIK they give a expected release date, A expected release date will actually close mouth of all such people who keep spaming these threads.

Will Mi A1 get android Q

It is sure that tissot will get Android P by end of 2k18. I am curious whether it will be lucky enough to get Q update being an Android one phone(software support is for three OS versions).

First of all, Android Q will NEVER BUT EVER be released in May 2019. At the very best may be announced and some selected devices be granted with a developer preview (obviously Pixel devices). The final release to the public will yes, probably be in October 2019, but once again firstly for Pixels and then other high range phones. There is no way that Xiaomi will release Q on the fly right on October, and much less for our A1, when they have the A2 and (probably) an A3 by that date.

Where is the evidence of this?
Do you have any?
Why do you ask such things, if your statements aren't even well documented?
Have you seen any info from Xiaomi team about rethinking their decision about keeping MiA1 "un-trebled", switching their ideas just to take the funny P, carrying with all the process of repartitioning each device's drives, all inside of an update pack, with free support? → no matter which risks people would suffer if something just goes wrong with such update.
Xiaomi won't be riding such horse, when it is already running away.

Let me explain it another way :
When someone (in this case Xiaomi) is under a contract (think of the Android One Program as a contract), they (Xiaomi)
are by definition forced to obey some rules (2 years of major Software updates, and 3 years of security updates) set by the other party of the contract,
which in this case is Google. When you buy a device branded as an Android one device, then you are guaranteed those things, and that is why you got
the Android one device in the first place. For those reasons the Xiaomi Mi 5X IS NOT GUARANTEED ANY OF THE ABOVE since it is not an Android one device, despite being literally
the same device hardware-wise, it could never get Android P officially, and Xiaomi could stop providing security updates at any point.
EDIT: ALSO THIS ONE
Stay fresh over time
Mi A1 ships with Android Nougat, and will receive 2 years minimum of OS upgrades. And since Android One users are among the first to get new OS upgrades when they’re released, you’ll have access to the latest features and innovations even sooner.

I am not to keep having this pointless since you can't understand facts and things that are official, and also provided by Xiaomi themselves in the official website for the phone. Time will show you, what I keep explaining, and you keep not getting.

Treble is not needed for android P, so Xiaomi don't have to worry about treblizing Mi A1

Nokia 6.1 got pie, no update for A2 a more premiere phone

We know we will get it by year max as per expectations, but no beta yet... So does anyone has any update on this
What can we do except waiting! -_-
Company is focusing on pocco f1, mi 8se, both received beta..... This one is android one phone and not even beta by now..... I bought this device for early updates and one program only.

How come the Mi A2 is a failure if it's one of the best selling Xiaomi phones on Aliexpress and other markets?
If you don't like it, sell it and buy a new phone, it is that simple, no need to be a martyr.
If you want custom roms, how about you develop it yourself instead of complaning that no one took their free time and knolowedge to make you free roms? I can only speak for myself, as I have no desire in developing for such an arrogant and whiny user base as of the Mi A2's. Or I can develop a Pie AOSP rom and charge for it, how about that?
Android One responsibility are complicated..
So far away for pie
Just talk about some bug on current 8.1 rom (like slow emmc read/write speed, unresponsive proximity sensor n etc) and some miss faeture and support like arcore, camera2api, tap2wake...
Im sure they work on it but not fast like miui
To be honest mi a2 are overshadowed by redmi note 5/pro, and poco f1, so this phone not much attracted/interesting for some community developer...

That was one of the more refreshing posts I've seen in awhile. Thanks for posting it.
Having some from the HTC 10 forums, where the users are pretty respectful, some of the Mi A2 users here do seem particularity whiny and demanding of attention.

It's really the worst XDA experience for me so far. Threads with the same topics all over and constant demanding and whining instead of being happy about a cheap good phone

its a big mistake to buy this mi a2 with this very little battery, horrible suport, a lot of bugs, a new 1401 clock bug, no pie, no twrp, no suport, this is the worst phone i ever buyed, now i will sell this, i cant handle this feilure phone
I'd rather have a smooth and bug free phone than a rushed update. I mean, both the A2 and A2 Lite are full of bugs. Nokia is working with only Android One phones, while Xiaomi have so many to work on. They are slow anyway.
Guys, my topic says its a premium phone and don't have any problem with it. Getting superb screen on time, pics, android one, fast charging and dont need much.
But just curious about pie update as even nokia 6.1 got it... Don't be upset with it. If anyone knows can tell otherwise its ok

pie got new gesture based navbar and legacy navbar tho (same with recent apps. pie got both new vertical and legacy horizontal one)
Pie update is in testing, Xiaomi sells far more A2 than all Nokia combined, so the extra care, whatever pie update should come in few days with November update.
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi A2 using XDA Labs
The main reason why I bought the phone was Android One. I expected to receive updates as early as possible just like the damn website on Android One is saying.
Until now, Xiaomi is a big f*cking disappointment because of bugs, CPU frequency lock (I have a phone that can't be used with Fingerprint and those morons at Xiaomi don't even want to acknowledge that), slow updates, no camera2api enabled by default (I had to erase the phone!), TWRP etc.
This is by no way a premier/premium phone. The Galaxy A5 2016 I had for two years was way better because it felt and ran like wind.

No, I'm very confident, also its Xiaomi goal to announce it before Xmas sales season begins to push A2 sales yet not as good as the A1's.
Besides Android Pie goodies, another improvement is to include Bluetooth LDAC support, and maybe improvements on camera.
We received the November security patch now, so i think we will be receiving pie in December only..... Thanks for your reply
