The Mi 6S/7 - Xiaomi Mi 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I was abit surprised there has been no announcement for their next follow up. Im guessing they're not taking the OnePlus route I.e. same specs different design.
I had a hunch they are waiting for the snapdragon 845 and turns out I was right. http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/12/05/news-snapdragon-845-exists/
So who will be getting their next flagship. I most likely will because of specs and price ratio. Hopefully they have a much better camera. I found the Mi 5S to have a better camera thab the Mi 6. The olmain downside is waiting a few months (6) for kernel sources.
If they release with Oreo then project Treble unless they do a sly move like OnePlus and release with Nougat to avoid Treble.

Kernel sources will be released at release time from now on.

Wait, what? Do you mean when the phone is available to buy, kernel sources will be published also?

Source?, xiaomi has been very bad on kernel source releases.

Yes, I've talked with Ivan and he said that they intend to release sources at time of device release from now on to improve their global market.

Any thoughts guys?

I'll wait and see if it's any good first or wait for mix 3

Too early. Still a lot of speculation.
There aren't a lot of news about SD845 as of today. And looking back how I anticipate Mi 6 release, there were lots of misinformation floating around from one site to another. And in the end, Mi6 is almost different from the rumor I read.

As long as they release a Ceramic Mi7, I'm all in.

Those of you who voted no, whats your reason(s)?

Display size

I will only buy when they release kernel source max 2 months after phone released and it will be cheaper ca 100 USD than otp 6.
If not , I will buy otp 6. I can't imagine, based on mi6 story , to wait 9 months for lineageos and I can't imagine to use crappy MIUI soft.

Well, it depending on how big development on mi 7. If there is a lot dev who bought it, and I'm in.

Still no news :/

So what do you lot think about the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE?

For me only mi 8 explorer edition is option and only after kernel released
Two others, for that price I would rather buy op6

Apparently it doesn't have a translucent back, its a sticker so I'll probably go for the standard model and the SE depending on how much the resellers are charging.

Note 2 2015 vs buying 2013 snapdragon device , on a budget

Hi all,
Was hoping for some advice, want to buy this redmi note 2 for $130 new vs a older lg g2 for $140 , the redmi note 2 looks great and has decent developer support but the g2 has a tonne of support but is a touch more expensive (802) version and a few years older.... Which would be a wise budget buy do you think for a year or 2 into the future ? Screen size etc and build quality don't matter as much as the dev support
Thank you
If you had said "LG G4", I would have no doubt, but regarding G2...
It truly depends on your expectations. I got the Note 2 hoping Xiaomi would be the cure to all evils, regarding chinese phones. I got it wrong, even if the phone is still a bomb.
However, in practical terms, the answer to your question is in the title of your post: it's a 2013 phone. Outdated from the start.
LG G4 is way more expensive than $140 , the G2 is still having tonnes of dev support has CM13 , remember its a nexus5 but with bigger screen
Why do u think the redmi note 2 is a bomb ??

Some people love the Note 2. For me it was OK. The Helio X10 chip isn't amazing, its A53 low powered cores but overclocked to 2/2.2Ghz. It also seems to be power hungry when in use.
I still wouldn't go with LG G2 though as its getting quite old. Perhaps get a G3 in the used market or consider getting the OnePlus X. Redmi Note 2 is an absolute No-no if you care about dev support and custom ROMs. Xiaomi hasn't released the kernel source and probably never will. All ROMs use stock kernel so they are limited in what they can do / bug fixing where you need kernel support.
Also I am liking the look of the Xiaomi Redmi 3 with its snapdragon 616 chip. But I will keep my distance from Xiaomi until they start releasing source code. I am a custom ROM addict like you, I love CM and that's what makes Xiaomi phones a no go, unless its the MI3 or MI4 which have full CM13 support.
I have both LG G2 and Redmi Note 2. I prefer Redmi Note 2.

It would be helpful to know your reasons.
Xiaomi is faste in daily use and it has a better camera and cpu. Lg has a slighty better contrast, but you see the difference only if you put them next to each other.
I have a One plus one so I went with a Lg g2 for a smaller size phone , development is much better and if its as fast as my nexus 5 then that is fine for my daily use I'll come back to look at redmi note 2 or 3 when one gets a marshmallow ROM
There is still an option for you to choose redmi note 2 now, but in the near future when xiaomi has locked redmi note 2 bootloader you should reconsider your decision. It means no custom rom for you. Theoritically there is an option to unlock this phone, but the proccess practically not easy, unless you only use custom rom from the day you buy it..
Sent from my Optimus G using Tapatalk
Yeah , actually if buying from aliexpress the note 2's come with the international ROM preinstalled so I'm guessing that's the ok ones that u can flash ROMs with as their bootloaders not locked yet
It all depends on whether you are happy to stick with the manufacturer's firmwares. If so, then go for the Redmi Note 2.
For my part, the next time I get an Android phone, I'll get one with a Snapdragon chipset, because developer support is far better with Snapdragon. For that reason, if I were you, I would go for the LG.

A couple of you have been critical of Xiaomi as being the best choice among Chinese options. I'd be interested to hear who your preferred Chinese manufacturer is. Lenovo and Elephone would be even easier to criticise. I guess that leaves Letv and Meizu.

TBH, I'm not sure whether the difficulty is with Xiaomi or Mediatek, so it is not clear who to criticise. The bottom line is that opensource kernel sources have to be released, but are not being released. Nobody is really interested in "whose fault" this is - and perhaps "they" have what appears to "them" to be good reasons (e.g., untidy or poor coding hacks, backdoors introduced, etc., or whatever) for not releasing the kernel sources. The fact is that the lack of kernel sources hampers development efforts, and perpetuates any errors, unimaginativeness, poor coding, etc., that may be in the firmwares. So Snapdragon it will be in future. There are Xiaomi phones with Snapdragon chipsets, so this is not intrinsically about Xiaomi.

What the tittle says
Yes there is, we'll get it in 2 months period.
Any ideas why so long? Sony already got it and they are skinned as well as others are close behind like Samsung with their beta tests and htc why is this one taking so long to push since it is almost pure?

Sony have a much bigger dev team, plus sony has a large community of devs and testers that work for free since they release all their code to open source.
But is this not like the purest of Android ... On paper it should be just plug test and play for the A1?
In principle, yes. But I going by the apparent fact that Google isn't in charge of software but xiaomi is, my guess is that is the reason why there is no oreo yet...
I presume. I've heard good things for this company let's see how this phone will hold up to what people say
I think that the Andorid One topic is quite new for them (too) and they just have to collect their experience first so I'm pretty sure for the following updates they will get more and more routine so this is just the beginning....
With Android One, doesn't Google control the OS updates like in Pixel. We get security fixes along with Pixel
Android one suppose to be the first device after pixel and nexus to get Oreo.
Devices are getting beta version or something of Oreo.
And we are just waiting ,
Don't want to rush anything but atleast a official comment on the Oreo for android one would be grate...
They says by the end of this year, its mean December, calm down
I have a friend working in Mi China and he says their Target is indeed for December 2017. So let's just all chill out till then.
From what I guess Google isn't really controlling the updates of mi a1. STOCK android doesn't support capacitive nav bars and a IR sensor too. Moreover there are dual cameras on this phone. So mi has to so tweaks to accommodate all this. That's why it must be taking some time.

There is nothing like this. Android one is a program which ensures every updates not faster updates. So keep calm. They will release it by 31st Dec.
The update chain is not that what u r thinking right now.
Google - Processor manufacturers - OEMs - Beta testers - OEM - Public Release.
As far as what I've seen and heard on mi community discussions some guy had posted a pic of his discussion with one of the representatives from Xiaomi. It said that they werent sure on when they are going to release the update as they haven't finalized the date yet. They said that it could be in late january 2018

Mi A1 android 8.1?? May 5,2018

Why Xiaomi Mi A1 still not on android 8.1? Xiaomi should have a voice for Google to solve the user, or just a few should also be the direction of choice for users such as creating a MIUI version for Mi A1, because whether GG has the software development, But Xiaomi understands most of his products.
U bought mi a1 because of stock Android, if u want MIUI u should have bought a mi 5x
I was wrong to buy xiaomi mi a1. But xiaomi should also give the user the MIUI option on Mi A1. Google will abandon Mia1 ?

This is the worst community I've stumbled across, and I've been long time xda member...Are you people real? Why do you want 8.1 update so bad, it's nothing major except few not so important features. There is a leaked 8.1 available at xda so we can expect 8.1 on our devices soon, maybe next month. That leaked version has some bugs, so when they fix them we will receive 8.1
You want fastest updates? Buy Pixel or use Custom ROMs and stop ruining community with same nonsense again and again.
If you want 8.1 so bad you can flash latest leaked version, I'm using it and have 0 problems with it, it's my daily driver untill official comes.

Never really understood why its so important to have the latest software. You can run android 5.1 and still have support for basically all software. Anything after lollipop basically looks and works the same. And miui is being ported.
Me, for example, I would buy Mi5X, but it is not available in my country and doesnt have LTE freqs for me, so I bought MiA1, but I am sad about the device. I would love to have stable MIUI on this device.
I would love this device, but battery life is just sad, Google apps use so much battery, especially Photos, they used 15% in 30 mins (and I was just staring at one picture, it wasnt even syncing, it was just idle).

Well, I suffer some bugs at the current state of our stock ROM. Camera has a lot of flickering, battery life not that good and I also got issues with deep sleep when device doesn't sleep at all when it is locked and I dont even have almost any app installed... not sure if Oreo 8.1 will fix it, but I hope that Android P will and will also bring bigger support for our dual camera setup.

Actually the thing is their is too much competition in Asian market, and particularly in India the price of the phone is about ₹15K, a price band where most of Indian buy phones, So competition is tough and we have good alternative available in market unlike Western Market. Maybe €200 is not big amt. In your country, but is is big amount in India. And no one had forced Xiaomi to price it lower, they were free to do that, they priced low its their problem now. Nokia 5 Runs 8.1( almost same price) and we also except same as we also Purchased Android One device. Anyways it coming next month anyways.:angel:

Dude... Nokia 5 specs cannot be compared with mi a1. If they share the same price so mi a1 is way better in terms of value for money. Considering we have the latest OS from google (oreo), receive monthly security patches, have a beta build with 8.1 (which is not a big deal since we already have oreo and it's very stable with minimal bugs) and have these powerful specs and build quality then good job Xiaomi.
Stop crying about 8.1.. seriously this is getting ridiculous.

Don't make it what you want to make of it. People keep saying that you have to buy pixel for fast updates, or they give pricing a reason for this. I am just telling them that Nokia gives updates much faster to even the mid range phones. Just telling them that price excuse is lame
Their are bugs believe it or not, charging time has increased from April Patch, the phone becomes like a fireball in hand even when I play PUBG on minimum graphic within one round, And the biggest problem is that the Moderator of their Community, even doesn't reply to these if you post it their, communication is a big problem from Xiaomi's side from starting. People keep asking for 8.1, but AFAIK they give a expected release date, A expected release date will actually close mouth of all such people who keep spaming these threads.

Redmi Note 7 expected update life cycle.

As a new Xiaomi phone owner I have no idea what to expect. Do we get 2 year full support? Android Q and Android R?
They say one but do different.. because they make so much new phone,in their interest is to sell as more they can so.. you can be happy with one year support.. but hardware are so good and we have developer who give new lives to this phones when Xaomi stop supporting us.

The good news is that this phone has sold really well, which increases the chances for good custom ROM support after Mi gives up on it.

Hopefully that's the case... Also a new Xiaomi owner here
judging from the previous iterations of xiaomi phone models, they only provide a single version upgrade to launch OS. you can expect that trend to continue.
but with the kernel code posted in github, this phone will be receiving XDA support for at least 5 years after xiaomi stops supporting it... given that the Redmi 1S is still being supported :good:
I usually use phone for about two years, but lately around 1 year (that is bad). I hope I can use this phone for atleast 2 years. Xiaomi phones have good development community, so phone can have support for longer.

Should we expect some community development for this after the Mediatek disaster if Redmi note 8?
I'm interested in this phone coming from OnePlus One and Redmi Note 4, I'm used to great ROM availability.
Xiaomi is releasing phones left and right there are already very few community developers and there a lot of devices to choose from. If this device gets famous then expect development otherwise forget about it. 2-4 roms unofficially supported and root and that is pretty much it.
planning to buy the phone...would be happy af if the development scene turns out to be good....previously i used legendary mido
It would be nice to use some great roms on this redmi note 9 pro, till now it's proving to be good for me
If there will be some development for this device it would be great....

When development will begin for redmi note 9 pro.....
given that the base variant is priced reasonably and the phone is quite good overall i think it has a great future other than last years redmi note 8 pro....
looking forward to some great roms :fingers-crossed:
Just ordered it yesterday, hopefully it will get better development in the future
This phone will have great community development strength, just as any Redmi Note series phone. And because it is a huge jump in performance compared to the previous models, it will be successful. It has great specs considering the price. The only problem now is that developping TWRP for devices coming with Android 10 out of the box will take some time (look at the OnePlus 7T series for example, and check TeamWin's annoucements). On a side note, the Xiaomi Mi 10 already has a working non-official TWRP. If you can be patient, you should not worry at all.
This phone just needs TWRP (unofficial is good enough),kernel source code from Xiaomi and Indians. Lots of them to be precise since the Note series is pretty much synonym with them. Where are my Indian bros? We need you here.
Just bought the Redmi Note 9S 128GB 6GB RAM, waiting for it to be delivered. No specific intention of changing the software for at least 12 months or so as I never think it's actually worth all the graft involved, by then, I hope this phone will have picked up traction and be more popular

The JOYEUSE version will be most likely abandoned from xiaomi since they cannot keep up with devices lol, here is my github where i will making changes to the tree of the curtana model, there's a team of us working on it, i will be building and supporting EVO-x github.com/xiaomi-curtana enjoy Still waiting for my device to arrive tho, however at this point Xiaomi are quite unpredictable tho personally I just prefer the 9s and it was the discontinued cn device so will most likely get more updates

They do always the same
The global Redmi Note 9 Pro (+NFC, +30W charging, +64MP Main Camera Sensor Samsung GW2) will be released next monday(11.05.2020) in Malaysia at a starting price around 300€.
There will be three different Global RN9 by the middle of May:
- RN9: The low cost Mediatek Version. I am be sure many people will buy this one because of getting very low prices for a Redmi Note 9 (3GB/64GB) May it will be sold for 150€ with very less potential for custom ROM development.
- RN9Snapdragon: The one (6GB/128)GB I got and returned for 229€. Very nice one but without NFC.
- RN9 Pro: Nice peace of cake with some very useful improvements compared to RN9S. If this one is sold for 300€ and not under 250€(6GB/128GB) I will wait and watch the prices compared to global Mi Note 10 Lite Zoom.
Here is a nice review for the upcoming global Redmi Note 9 Pro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJHzRWbpPVY&t=635s
While waiting and also watching Custom ROM development I am using my old but gold Redmi Note 4 mido with LOS 17.1, I payed 140€ in 2017 for mido.
Just ordered the 6GB version on amazon, hope to receive it on monday. Really hope developers can make some ROMs to squeeze this phone for real, Official or Unnofficial I dont care
