[DISCUSSION][OT][8.1.x]Oreo ROM Discussion thread for Titan - G 2014 General

This thread is made for Oreo ROM discussion, in development threads, there should be only discussions about a specific bugs and issues, any OT should go here, I thought there should be a common discussion thread for suggestions, theming, substratum, dolby, viper, custom kernels mods and your home screens etc, as if you use any modified stuffs on rom, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO REPORT BUGS AT ROM DEVELOPMENT thread, thats why this common discussion thread is here.
Currently, all Oreo ROM has following issues:
>SElinux is permissive, means SElinux wont be at Enforcing state
>HDR works with only OpenCamera/A Better Camera, with stock cameras, HDR doesnt work If any maintainer didnt implement HDR fix yet, try the zip from attachments
What is SElinux and what means SElinux is permissive?
A: https://source.android.com/security/selinux here is your answer
List of currently developed OREO roms?
A: @sapo_joe has made a thread for it, go here and if you find any rom missing request him there to add https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/list-currently-developed-roms-titan-t3736067
Developers who are behind to bringup oreo to our titan:
1: @LuK1337 , he is lit, all of our works based on his codes
2: @RenanQueiroz , is the guy who fixed issues which were on Luk's los builds, and brought stable tree to us for building roms, currently all roms are based on his trees
So, feel free to discuss about anything here from now, that can be OT, unofficial builds, build issues and anything that doesnt violate XDA rules, cheers

AOSP-CAF 8.1 for Moto G 2014 (TITAN)

AFAIK AOSP-CAF is the cleanest ROM baseline. Will definitely follow it.

Well not planning right now, but as long as I dont stay busy I will keep it updated, nothing to worry about, AICP will not miss security patches if official source merge em, cheers

Some people might know bout Spectrum. Its a battery, balanced and performance kernel-profiling app. All it needs is a kernel support. @thedeadfish59 can you make the RR kernel support Spectrum? It'll give great benefits.

Indeed thats a good idea, but, only when I will get time, I will think about it, i just released a build, so I will think when I build again, thanks tho

Am I the only one that has issues with apps freezing and force closing in every single Oreo ROM? Happens most frequently to me with browsers and reddit clients. Everyone's all happy with Oreo and the abundance of ROMs but no one talks about this problem. Also before anyone mentions that's its a problem with my device, it's not because I don't get these issues on Nougat.

Wow! (Check the SELinux status).
For me, LineageOS 15.1 [TITAN] by Renan looks like the best Oreo ROM to install as soon as SELinux issue is resolved, because the codebase is mature, it is supported on a regular basis AND there is official Root addon.
Have anyone tried to root LOS 15.1 with the official Root addon? How is the performance after rooting with the official Root addon, are there any lags or freezes introduced by rooting?

They've been working on that for months now... The bad part, as you can see on the screenshot is that when selinux is set to enforcing, the phone doesn't detect the sim cards... :crying:

I had that when I was using Magisk or SuperSU. Doesn't happen with the stock lineage root though.

Happens to be regardless if I'm rooted or not and with every single Oreo ROM I've tried so far. Almost a dealbreaker for me tbh. Nougat rarely ever gave me such issues.

Hmm I'd like to have this clarified. AFAIK, the SELinux state is not persistent across reboots—that is, as soon as a device is rebooted, SELinux state reverts to the state the kernel was built with—in our case it's the permissive state.
If SELinux is permissive at boot, the SIM cards are detected normally, right?
What happens if we set SELinux to enforcing AFTER boot (with root it should be simple, we only need to execute "su -c setenforce 1" in any terminal emulator)?
First, do the SIM cards get undetected as soon as SELinux state is switched?
Second, if we set SELinux to enforcing and then switch to the Flight Mode and back without rebooting the device, will SIM cards be re-detected as soon as the Flight Mode is disabled?

Thats not happening, with enforcing boot, Renan didnt get RIL working, and so many things are broken, so most probably, we are staying with permissive SElinux, but however, HDR is still major concern, to Renan, to all of us

I changed to the latest Pixel Experience build for the moment. I once flashed that ROM before and I was missing some features but the battery consumption was just awesome. So I gave it a second try and found two substratum apps called K-Klock and /subtweaks/ that had some of the things I was missing.
When I was on AEX.5.6 I used it alongside with Evolution_oreo_titan_20180603 kernel, the performance was really good but the battery consumption was high as we know it from AEX. I have to say that PE provides a really great RAM managment and the best battery usage I found until now.
Next on my list is bootleggers ROM, heard good things about it.
edit: Just read about the new build of Evolution kernel. Will try it with PE.

Comparison of Nougat 7.1 ROMs

Hi! I'm a pretty avid Moto X PE user (whose only now made an account ) and I have been experimenting Nougat ROMs. I've settled with (for a couple of weeks anyway) CrDroid v2.2, but after seeing that Resurrection Remix is being maintained again. I want help deciding.
First off, the ROMs that I need help comparing are LineageOS, AICP, RR, and CrDroid.
The most important aspects me are mostly features found on Stock, mostly gestures (camera and torch) as well as added features and camera startup time. Ambient display is also important, in case there are any differences between ROM's.
Also, is the ROM a CAF-based or AOSP? I prefer CAF.
Is it possible to play Pokemon Go on the ROM? If so, how? I can't get it to work on CrDroid. (Also Android Pay, I know it's a stretch, but can it work?)
Finally, what makes each ROM special? What features does it have that the others don't? Convince me to switch!
P.S. Anyone use Cloudpath at their institution? I haven't been able to get it to work on any of them!!!! I would like to save my data but I keep getting the "Your OS version is incompatible because your administrator has chosen not to enable it yet," even though they have. It's worked with custom roms on other devices before! Also, installing the certificates manually fails too and I have no idea why. But, this isn't the reason for this thread!
1 for other, Validus.
i ve got problems with every single nougat rom on my Moto X style
Currently running Dirty Unicorns 1/28/17 build. Apart from the flashlight not working, it's the smoothest and most battery friendly nougat rom I've tried so far.
My 2 cents, none of them are fully there as of yet. Each may do something the other may not but as of now, I would not recommend any. I would still give it time for each to improve. Out all I seem to have them the one with the least issues is Dirty Unicorn but even with that I have experienced lock ups.
I find tesla good not only because of feature's but also for stability
I can't say who's the best but am currently using Tesla (02/22 build) and am quite impressed.
Here's my review for that ROM;

For me there are no bugs. There's a volume fix for that Speaker playback. That bug is there in all Nougat ROMs since last week as it was produced from LineageOS and all other use LOS as a base.
Here's the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/solved-low-volume-nougat-custom-rom-t3559769
You just copy paste those files and set permission as rw-r--r-- Reboot and enjoy
Haven't found any bugs yet. Everything is smooth. All the features and services.

It should work with appropriate files and also the issue needs to be in those files. (If some other files is causing it then hard luck)
You can try it yourself though. Get the files from old build of Dirty Unicorns where it was working fine. Set the permission to rw-r--r--
Hope it works.
Or you can also take the Stock audio config files from Stock ROM. If Dirty Unicorn is based on CyanogenMod 13 then take the audio files from any CM13 build.
I'd like to ask a simple question, whether the NFC working normally or not...

[AOSP] A more comprehensive list of bugs in AOSP ROMs, by DJ Daemonix

This is a more comprehensive list of bugs encountered in the current main Android 7.x AOSP ROMs.
Since i know most ROM devs don't edit their OPs when a new bug/broken feature is discovered, this thread aims to be a more comprehensive list of bugs, that will be fueled by the community.
If you find a bug that is currently not on the list, do not hesitate to post a reply stating your discoveries. I'll be checking in regularly to update the OP with your findings.
Be advised, this topic is not aimed at solving these bugs, but more of reporting said bugs, and making Users' & Devs' lives easier. (Or at least trying to )
So here is the list of bugs/broken features :
LineageOS 14.1 (7.1.2) by OpenKirin
Data Tethering
Dual-lens camera support
Shaky video recording (workaround available)
Slow 60fps YouTube videos (debatable)
Snapchat not working
Occasionnal soft reboots
Other minor annoyances
Resurrection Remix OS v5.8.3 (7.1.2) by OpenKirin
Dual-lens camera support
Shaky video recording (workaround available)
Slow 60fps YouTube videos (debatable)
Stock Messaging app closes all other apps (use another app)
Occasionnal soft reboots
Other minor annoyances
Android AOSPA (7.1.2) by OpenKirin
Data Tethering
No APN customizability
VoLTE Support (debatable)
Dual-lens camera support
Shaky video recording (workaround available)
Mobile Networks settings page crash (Indian users only)
Slow 60fps YouTube videos (debatable)
Occasionnal soft reboots
Other minor annoyances
Feel free to reply to the thread if you find any other bugs !
Happy flashing and bug hunting !
I would add laggy 60fps videos on YouTube to that list
In AOSPA volte feature is not working tested twice
Need volte support in every custom ROM. Till then I'll stick with stock. Without calling feature i can't use it. So are many other who have volte calls.
Okay, adding VoLTE to the list. AOSPA is confirmed, but what about other ROMs ?

strike volte from the list!
It is a vendor feature which requires additional modifications, those we cannot implement.
Thats why almost no custom rom implements this feature. It has been available on AOSPA because they are working closely together with the OnePlus Team and their devices. No way huawei would do the same - so please forget about volte on custom roms and stick to emui if you need it. @surdu_petru will disable it in the next update
And, to say that again, this is no development thread, reported and will be moved to another section soon.

Well thats in aospa which i tested for two days ! As surdu said its with the b320(L02) firmware which is ahead of b360 on L04 . Still the force close will be for all Indians (L02 users) and can be said it will be an issue of a country instead of just a model . Hope this will provide some base point to add this issue into the section .

Just updated the list with all current bugs. I noted "(debatable)" for everything that either wasn't confirmed by two users, or that i didn't encounter myself.

Marshmallow on the OnePlus 5?

Hi everyone,
I have a really crazy idea and like to hear your opinion about it. But first let me introduce the topic.
First, let's take a look at what is going on when upgrading from one major Android version to a newer.
The boot and system partition are filled with new content.
Beside kernel adjustments, this is only related to Android, not device specific stuff, right?
Then we have more stuff like the recovery, closed source drivers for the modem, etc. Several times I read about the "firmware". I'm not sure what is meant with firmware exactly in case of a smartphone and how much device specific it is.
How much is this further stuff related to the Android version running on the device?
Summarizing, what is done by a manufacturer when upgrading a device from let's say Marshmallow to Nougat? What needs to be touched and what is not?
Now to the crazy idea. What about downgrading from one major Android version to an older, espacially when there is no older version by the manufacturer? What would need to be touched in this case? Did someone ever try this?
Finally I come to the real question:
Is it possible to port Android Marshmallow to the OnePlus 5?
The reason for this crazy idea is that I can't live without Xposed. But the Xposed Framework isn't available yet for Android Nougat. And to be honest, I'm not sure anymore if it will ever be.
I'm a developer, but I'm afraid I'm not experienced enough to help porting Xposed over to Android Nougat. I would if I could, but my time is limited also.
In contrast to porting Xposed to Nougat, porting Marshmallow to the OnePlus 5 might be easier for me or us, the people who would like to have a OnePlus 5, but can't live without Xposed.
I'm curious about what you think about this crazy idea.
What about Magisk? I've heard that Magisk simplify everything
I actually like the idea! It would be great to have "retro" ROMs, like Android 5, 4.4, or lower. I know it's a bit stupid, but that would be cool in my opinion
I would love it also just because of Xposed, nothing else really

Magisk is a great tool, but it doesn't have the capabilities of Xposed. So this won't help.
But let's talk only about Marshmallow on the OnePlus 5 here, not about alternatives.
I would absolutely love if OP5 had a Custom Marshmallow port.....I also cannot live without Xposed.
I heard Xposed was ported on Nougat Rom with ARM architecture

Just curious, but why? What do you use in Xposed you can't live without that root and custom ROMs don't offer?
Due to the fact you would have to literally write a kernel for MM for the Oneplus5 as there is no existing one, it would be more worthwhile to put all that time into geting Xposed working.
It's probably possible but the mammoth effort to get an older OS on your device would not be expedient...

I am currently using the Oneplus 5,
do you think there could be any way i can use Xposed?
The reason I prefer Oneplus is for being so open and easy to root together with Xposed personally.
1. Technically it should be possible, you just need drivers that would boot Marshmallow on SD 835.
2. Older systems usually have simpler/less API than new one, so there would be no "unsupported" system features.
3. Easiest way would be to port a kernel from a device that shipps with SD 835 and Marshmallow, for now I saw some on benchmarks, but they will probably ship with N onboard when released.

@geoff5093 OK, if you really want to know, I took the time to create a short list:
YouTube AdAway is a good example. It removes ads from the original YouTube app.
YouTube Background Playback adds what you usually only get when you pay for YouTube Red.
XHangouts adds certain stuff to the Hangouts app, like moving the call button to the manu, so that you don't accidently press it.
Amplify can extend your battery life.
Greenify works also only with root, but better (more capabilities) with Xposed.
MinMinGuard removes ads from apps.
App Settings, a classic module by rovo89, the developer of Xposed, can do several configuration stuff per app.
GravityBox is an example, that offers functionality that can also be done by using a custom rom, but selected features are only offered by this module.
I do even more with Xposed, almost everything isn't possible using only root and custom roms.
TL;DR
A custom rom can only add/change functionality of built in stuff, not apps. Xposed can manipulate also apps.

Thanks for the list. I used to use many of those as well, but the benefits of greenify and amplify are pretty much moot when you have to sacrifice the significantly enhanced performance of doze in Nougat.

It seems that not many people are interested in Marshmallow on the OnePlus 5. This is comprehensible, at least since we saw a first unofficial release of Xposed for Nougat here on XDA.
For everyone participating in this thread, Xposed is the reason why we would like to see Marshmallow on the OnePlus 5. Once Xposed for Nougat is out, the idea get's obsolete.
Let's see when we will get Xposed for Nougat, hopefully rovo89 is successful! :fingers-crossed:

Unofficial Xposed is Working on Nugat, though it breaks, SafetyNet. It was first tasted on OP3T :fingers-crossed:
[XPOSED] [NOUGAT] [WORK] [CAN UNSTABLE] Xposed SDK25/24 for all arch
Not all of the Modules are working, here's an Unofficial List...
[UNOFFICIAL] List of modules which work with Nougat Xposed SDK25
the Unofficial Supported Device list sohows OP5 is supported.
Take risk, you never know what you may find. At least you may come up with some interesting Logs.

I highly doubt it is since getting Treble for bacon means a quite hard work with partitions and such. I am not professional but having custom OREO ROM does not mean Treble is supported.
Do ypu know if bacon is getting oficial support this week?

Thanks for your build!

Work! You should change SELinux to Permissive

SafetyNet passes, although I always install a patch to turn off the ro.debuggable flag because I know I need that for one of my banking apps. So that might be why SafetyNet checks are OK.
What patch did you install? Can you explain?

If you merged this commit https://review.lineageos.org/#/c/209767/, camera in 3rd apps will work well without change selinux to permissive

Best lineage 15 build in my opinion. Everything works as expected, thanks a lot
gavinchappell said:
I don't think that commit on its own is enough to fix it because Snapchat runs under another context - however as the comments state, that patchset has now been abandoned anyway. It'll be included in a more common area (I guess it's a thing that could affect multiple Qualcomm SoCs) and there's a comment on the new patchset with the "correct" fix. I compiled myself a build with the latest proposed fix and Snapchat is working fine so once 209960 is merged and 15.1 is building, Snapchat users should be just fine.
I've updated the link in the first post to point to the latest version I've built, signed with test keys and has the SELinux change in which fixes Snapchat/Messenger.

What is your opinion about this https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/87keoj/google_nexus_player_and_oneplus_2_receive/dwesq8h/? I think we won't have it in next week

Thanks a lot for the build @gavinchappell, I couldn't wait anymore. It also works flawlessly! :good:
EDIT: For all those having games crashing I solved changing vm.heapsize to 512 in build.prop.
Hello every One! I'm succesfully installed lineage-15.1-20180121-UNOFFICIAL-bacon on my OnePlusOne and the important thing for me which is NOT working it's routing audio input to the external audio interface connected via OTG (i'm using Lexicon Alpha). OTG actually works well with usb-midi interface and I can play my keyboard for example, but external audio interface is not working (it is connected well, the led is on, but problem with routing i guess) Maybe I should try ROM from this thread but, anybody knows some terminal commands for doing that? THANKS:fingers-crossed:
@gavinchappell, could you update this rom, please?))

Best Rom for Max Pro M1

Guys please suggest me a good bugless ROM be it Oreo or Pie.
I'm in stock ROM and I want more features. My requirements are
Good battery
Good performance
Edge gestures
Good Volte
Call quality
Good speaker output
No heating while charging and using.
Liquid Remix with Darkberry Kernel...
I don't think edge gestures work in any of the pie roms
Prefer Stock
Then wait ASUS release the Pie .
Maybe a years from now. Lol
Your requirements seems to lean more on the device usage actually and those are basic features that work best on stock rom.

There is no such thing as bugless! ?
As per your requirements it's best to stay on stock, root it & play around with magisk & if that seems insufficient then install Xposed Framework.
Xposed has some modules which you can check it out if you want more features.
GravityBox is the main one of course + xposed edge gestures (mindblowing)!
Disclaimer - Xposed trips safetynet, not that i care.
Performance and battery is great for me.
So, all your stuff covered expect the last one, haven't faced that issue.
All in OREO?

If u want all those features i think stock ROM would be best for u. However, if u want android pie then go for pixel experience rom or pixys os. They are the cleanest android pie roms out there.

Good battery - Battery idle drain & performance is based on Kernel, not on a custom rom.
Good performance - Whatever rom you use, performance is same. Bcaz it depends on the Processor speed in GHz.
Edge gestures, VoLTE - These are some of the reasons you are using a custom rom.
Call Quality - It's totally based on Cellular network & it's signal strength.
Speaker Output - By default, it's based on hardware, & speaker output from max pro m1 is satisfactory. To increase volume change RX values from 84 to somewhere 89 under mixer_paths.xml
I'm thinking of trying Aex pie rom
Is it any better than liquid remix or I'll be just wasting my data?

Busybox from magisk right? D/L the module, flash from magisk and reboot.
Also xposed from magisk rep which is systemless?
You gotta make sure now that whichever xposed framework you flashed is completely uninstalled.
For actual xposed use it's uninstaller.zip or for unity flash the module again from twrp.
Take backup, etc, and flash the systemless xposed module from twrp, wipe the cache and dalvik. Reboot.
Use the installer provided by our magisk prodigy from the repo which is for systemless xposed.
SDK V27 - 90.2 beta 3 (for framework).

I've to disagree with you on many things. First of all, all ROMs don't have same in call volume. Second, speaker output can vary in ROMs, performance can also differ

Whatever bro, it's truth. If possible, try out all the roms starting from lineage os, liquid remix os, crdroid, havoc os, etc. You'll notice there's no difference except all roms use their own custom system image & system apps.

Huh??!!
We all have 2 ears, one nose, one heart, 2 kidneys and 1 d*** but I do notice a lot of difference among them.
Don't simplify something too much just because you can't comprehend it and stop professing your own version of truth, BRO! ?
I am using havic os pie with azure kernel... I get 12+ hrs of SOT easily with 4g always on. The SOT will be even better if you use wifi.
Its got a load of customisations availablei
It has edge gestures.
I play pubg on it without any noticeable lag.
I think this is a great rom.
Also i use pixys os with stock kernel before this, that was a good rom too but it lacked customisations thats why i changed to havoc.
