[SOLVED] ADB Bootloader driver -- can't flash Zenfone AR, waiting for devices - Asus ZenFone AR Questions & Answers

In a nutshell, i can't speak to the phone once it's in the bootloader -- i was looking to flash recovery with unofficial TWRP.
The bootloader was sucessfully unlocked with the ASUS app and i've downloaded all the drivers i could find -- including universal adb drivers and qualcomm drivers.
When the phone is in Android OS and USB debugging, it seems detected just fine (device management) and it's serial num is listed when the "adb devices" command is run.
"adb reboot bootloader" works just fine and the device boots in bootloader mode (you can see the "unlocked" state).
Here is the problem: now the device no longer detected in device management so when i run, for example, "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img", it can't find the device and just sits there waiting.
Stuff i've tried:
- Give the device the path of a ton of different drivers (sometimes even same drivers from diff sources) = FAIL
- Choose the device driver myself in device management (picked Android device -> Android Bootloader Driver) = FAIL**
**Although the flashing command ran, no recovery was found on the phone and "adb devices" listed nothing -- fastboot did try to flash... something.
Sending 'recovery' (18672 KB) OKAY [ 0.623s]
Writing 'recovery' OKAY [ 0.203s]
Finished. Total time: 0.920s
I'm at wit's end and would not mind if it was something really simple/obvious that i forgot.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention OSs. The operations listed above were tried in Windows 10 and Windows 7.
[SOLVED]
I finally managed to get the phone talking by using Linux -- Ubuntu running in virtualbox with adb tools/libraries.
- Put phone in bootloader mode
- Connected to PC
- Connected USB device "Google Android" to the VM
- Presto!
Maybe there was some conflict with previous drivers on my Windows machines.

Need help re-rooting N7 on 4.3

So I downloaded the 4.3 OTA (didn't flash, just downloaded it via my N7 (Non Wi-Fi model, also not 3G, just a regular N7).
That said, I can't seem to figure out how to flash twrp, downloaded it via Wug's toolkit (1.6.8)
I get the usual options: Recovery mode, power off, start, restart bootloader.
I tried: Root + "And also flash: custom recovery". I got the "no command" error, stuck there, and powered off my N7.
Now I'm back to square one: trying to figure out how to flash twrp and re-push SuperSU to re-root my N7. SuperSU is up to date via Google Play, but obv I'm still not re-rooted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just sorted this out myself. I'm certainly no expert, but here's what I did...maybe it can help you, too.
1. Get the files you need --- download the latest SuperSU, mini-sdk kit, and TWRP recovery files (the link I used was here, but I'm sure it's all here in XDA somewhere, too)
2. Place the files --- put the SuperSU zip file on the Nexus' sdcard, put the others in a directory on your PC/laptop
3. Connect the Nexus 7 --- plug it into a USB port on your PC/laptop and make sure USB debugging is enabled
4. Install the recovery --- once you're connected, open a command prompt on your PC/laptop, move to the directory with your files, and reboot the Nexus into fastboot mode; here's my command prompt output so you can see both the commands I typed and the responses I got (I renamed my recovery image from "openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-grouper.img" to "recovery.img" for simplicity's sake):
C:\Users\[computername]>cd C:\Nexus 7\sdk-tools
C:\Nexus 7\sdk-tools>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
[ serial number ] device
C:\Nexus 7\sdk-tools>fastboot devices
C:\Nexus 7\sdk-tools>adb reboot-bootloader
C:\Nexus 7\sdk-tools>fastboot devices
[ serial number ] fastboot
C:\Nexus 7\sdk-tools>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (7462 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.908s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.303s]
finished. total time: 1.215s
C:\Nexus 7\sdk-tools>
5. Reboot and flash --- now you should have the TWRP 2.6 recovery installed; reboot the Nexus into recovery mode (hold the Up & Down Volume keys at the same time; while doing so, press the on/off button until the system starts in recovery) and TWRP should come right up; flash the SuperSU zip file, then wipe cache/Dalvik, then reboot
Mine had to go through the optimization process on all my apps on the reboot, but everything came up correctly after a few minutes. I did some spot-checking of a couple of my root apps, and all appears to be working correctly (at least for the moment).
Hopefully this can get you working again, too. Good luck!

Can´t boot twrp.img!

Hi,
I follow this Tutorial to root my Moto g6 Plus.
I could unlock my bootloader, but i cant boot twrp-3.2.3-42-evert.img.
When I try "fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-42-evert.img" , I get
Code:
Sending 'boot.img' (31100 KB) OKAY [ 0.878s]
Booting FAILED (remote: '')
fastboot: error: Command failed
I am using Windows 10, 64 BIt.
I use cmd in WIndows Terminal.
I used the ADB and Fastboot Installer for Windows to install adb and fastboot.
Can someone help me please?

I ran into this when I was looking to replace HavocOS 2.7 on Moto G6 plus and fix a few issues after a failed update using the tutorial here.
Did you disable lockscreen?
Even though this did not fix this issue for me it is well documented that it can have an effect on adb/fastboot use.
Did you see the notice on your phone to trust the connecting device?
I missed it the 1st time I tried using adb and it didn't prompt me again after that.
Have you tried adb/fastboot on another (older) machine .
I could NOT use fastboot on my Ryzen 7 linux machine w/ native USB 3.0 (or the 2.0 ports) and was getting the same type of results as you, although "adb reboot bootloader" worked fine.
I ended up usng an old HP Celeron laptop booting FWUL (bootable linux dev enviroment, Search for it here on XDA) on a USB stick which recognized the phone no problem and allowed me to "fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-42-evert.img" (although I did copy/rename it to boot.img to save typing time), use it to backup to sdcard, format data, and install "new" ROM.
WARNING:
The tutorial I used above also has directions for installing (Open)Gapps and Magisk which, even after 2X attempts had lawnchair crashing continuously.
The 3rd time I just installed the ROM and Magisk and it's working fine.
This will be a test to use the phone w/o any g00gle at all (g00gle is EVIL).
HTH!
i know this is not a solution, but this kind of issue is solve by using a different pc.
i got the same "bug" with my current pc (ryzen 5 + motherboard asus b450m-a)
but my wife's pc (intel+asus mb) have working fastboot commands like usual
also try (if you can) using a usb hub... in my case it did not work but i read some users do.

What is your pc specs? Are you using a Ryzen CPU? Idk why but this phone won´t pick fastboot commands with a Ryzen CPU. Get any Intel and you will be able perform the booting.

In my case fastboot got stuck at sending boot.img forever until I removed the cable and then I got a similar or the same error. I solved this problem by disconnecting the cable, then typing in the command and pressing enter and after that putting in the cable again. Then it sent successfully and booted. I hope this helped someone.
If you have ryzen get a usb hub. If you have intel, run the command and wat for the "<wating for device>" and plug in the phone there. Also use usb 2.0

everything i am seeing sais if my handset is not recognized by the desktop PC then my drivers are not correct.
problem with that statement is one of my 3 V20's does connect. correctly.
the other two are
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
as if there was no phone connected
but they are recognized under the fastboot devices, showing the connection is recognized by the PC, but not recognized by the phone.
how?
someone tell me pleas?
how do i get the 2 derpy phones to recognize the pc?
i am very much in a less then 3rd world country circumstance. (16 kbps max download speed for more then a week now) connecting to the internet is almost impossible as it is under excellent circumstances. for me to reboot into a Live os, and then set up a full NIC config before the Live freezes, glitches out or other wise kicks me in the face is almost impossible.
i am guna try to make an install. drag copy everything from the install to my os. this arch distro is built super similar to parrot os, so i might be able to make something work.
time will tell.
so far i have a failed atempt at this point
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[email protected]:/home/lglaf$ cd lglaf
bash: cd: lglaf: No such file or directory

the lafsploit is not able to "get" from the hub. looks like files have been removed?
now how do i get what i need?
took me an hour and a half to run less than 10 cmd lines.
not to mention thes fails are forcing me to unplug a phone while in download mode.
this is not fun.
any one know where i can download the file "h918-miscwrte"
looks like it is no longer on github
[email protected]:/home/lglaf# git pull
Already up to date.

return from lineage os to oxygen. problem with twrp installation

hello everyone. I haven't modded a smartphone for a long time and I need some help.
after installing lineage os a few years ago now i would like to go back with oxygen but i have problems with the installation of twrp.
I installed the platform tools and drivers and placed the twrp image in the (platform tools) folder.
debugging enabled
launching the command in the windows prompt: adb reboot bootloader the smartphone restarts correctly and shows me the screen with the choice START RESTART RECOVERY POWER OFF
the fastboot devices command, however, does not return any results
inserting the adb rebbot fastboot command instead the phone starts correctly in lineage os fastboot mode and now the fastboot devices command gives the result
now I enter the folder where I copied the twrp image cd c:\platform-tools and I give the command fastboot boot twrp.img (the file is renamed TWRP)
but this is the result
c:\platform-tools>fastboot boot twrp.img
Sending 'boot.img' (33116 KB) OKAY [ 0.995s]
Booting FAILED (remote: 'Unrecognized command boot')
fastboot: error: Command failed
Can someone be kind enough to help me. I have made many different attempts to no avail.
Thank you!

Hello,
let me see if i can help,
but i need some info....
Which the LineageOS version
your device currently running ?
Is your 6T a global or T-Mobile version ?
hi, thanks for the reply. it is a secondary phone and has an old lineage version. yesterday with a different PC than usual I managed to install the latest version of twrp from cmd after solving a partition problem. i installed twrp only theoretically since after reboot the lineage prompt doesn't start and the boot stops at the screen with fastboot written... by forcibly turning it off I can access the bootloader. this is the current situation. 6t golobal...
developments ... from what I wrote above I could not get any progress. the device goes into bootloader mode manually but from the windows prompt it is not detected by the adb device command or by fastboot device .. so I can't advance ...
Going back to stock version does not necessarily
imply the use of a custom recovery,
you just need to use the MSM/rollback tool.
You can download it from THIS thread.
Use the earlier version of the tool as
you don't know wich exactly the
version of android installed in your device,
9.0.16 suggested.
When you will have a running device,
manually download and install OOS 9.0.17 firmware,
which will let your device to upgrade to android 10 and so on...
READ carefully @iaTa THREAD to follow exact MSM procedure.
Use a Windows pc and be sure
you have installed Oneplus driver.
Feel free to ask.
