thinking out loud.
everything i am seeing sais if my handset is not recognized by the desktop PC then my drivers are not correct.
problem with that statement is one of my 3 V20's does connect. correctly.
the other two are
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
as if there was no phone connected
but they are recognized under the fastboot devices, showing the connection is recognized by the PC, but not recognized by the phone.
how?
someone tell me pleas?
how do i get the 2 derpy phones to recognize the pc?

i am very much in a less then 3rd world country circumstance. (16 kbps max download speed for more then a week now) connecting to the internet is almost impossible as it is under excellent circumstances. for me to reboot into a Live os, and then set up a full NIC config before the Live freezes, glitches out or other wise kicks me in the face is almost impossible.
i am guna try to make an install. drag copy everything from the install to my os. this arch distro is built super similar to parrot os, so i might be able to make something work.
time will tell.
so far i have a failed atempt at this point

[Beginners Guide] Unlock & Custom ROM your TF300

I have been asked to port my "Beginners Guide" from the TF700 forum for the TF300. Since both tablets are very similar, that was not too hard to do
If I have missed to update a link specific for the TF300, do let me know please.
And the standard disclaimer: I am not responsible if you misunderstand instructions I give here, if my instructions are wrong, if you forget to charge the battery and the tablet dies halfway through a flash or if your house goes up in flames. YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK
These instructions assume that you are on the latest Asus bootloader: 10.6.1.27.5
To determine which bootloader you currently have:
From an "Off" state, boot the tablet with Volume Down and Power into the bootloader menu. Read the small script in the upper left. You'll see
US_epad-10.6.1.27.5-20130801" or similar.
US or WW, JP, CN is your SKU or region
10.6.1.27.5 is your bootloader version
20130801 is the build date (and immaterial in most cases).
First things first:
Backup everything on your tablet you care about to an external microSD or your PC. Don't worry about your apps. You can always install them from the Play Store.
This is just common sense. It is not inherently risky to flash custom ROMs. But something can wrong at any time and you have to be careful. If you are, this is a safe procedure.
Basically the process of flashing a custom ROM on the TF300 involves three steps:
1) Unlock the bootloader using Asus' Unlock tool
2) Install a custom recovery on the tablet
3) Flash a custom ROM of your choice using said custom recovery
Unlocking the bootloader
Your tablet should be fully charged at this point!
Make sure "USB debugging" is checked in Settings > Developer Options (if you don't see it, go to About Tablet and tap 7 times on Build Number)
Go to Asus website: https://www.asus.com/support/Download/28/1/0/9/8BmzkQ4yoz5WzBrW/32/
Choose "Android" for OS and look for the "Utilities" on the resulting page.
Download the Asus Unlock Tool v7 (not v8! It says v7 is for ICS but it'll work fine on JB - see below)
The tool downloads as a .rar file which is an archive you have to decompress. 7zip is a free and very good Windows tool that will do it for you
On your tablet, in Settings > Security check "Unknown Sources"
Copy the .apk you extracted from the .rar archive to your tablet.
Find the apk in your tablet's file browser, tap it and let it install
Open the app and follow the instructions. You will loose your warranty as soon as you click "I agree".
Update 2/15: Google added another wrinkle: It now checks even sideloaded apps and refuses to install them if they are considered not secure. The Unlock tool seems to fail their test. v8 does not install at all anymore. v7 will install if you allow "less secure apps" in your Google account settings. On the web - not your Google account on the tablet
July 2015: And another wrinkel... It seems to be pretty consistent now that the Unlock Tool hangs on the Google account password step. I suspect something changed on the Google side. It probably doesn't allow the tool to check/compare the password anymore. There have been quite a few security changes lately and the unlock tool never gets updated so I suspect that Google now is blocking access by the tool to it's servers.
The work-around is easy enough: Delete the Google account from the tablet (Settings > Accounts), then run the tool again. If that doesn't do it, do a factory reset from Settings, reboot and during the initial setup establish a WiFi connection but skip the google account setup, then run the tool

This can be a 5 Minute operation that goes without a hitch or a very frustrating experience with lots of error messages. There is no definite rhyme or reason for this. For some people it works like a charm, for others it works after 15, 25 or 55 attempts, for some never.... This problem is widely discussed on several forums. Google it if you hit that roadblock.
To check if you are unlocked, boot the tablet and read the tiny script. It should say:
The device is unlocked.
Installing a custom recovery on your tablet
I highly recommend you choose TWRP as your custom recovery. If you want CWM, you are on your own.
To push TWRP to your tablet you need to set up "Fastboot" between your tablet and your PC. Fastboot is a protocol that enables you low level access to your tablet.
Practice/Background
Power down your tablet and disconnect it from the dock
Push and hold the Volume Down key (left side of the rocker) and the Power key until you feel the tablet vibrate twice. Let go when you see the tiny script. Read it and it tells you that your tablet is now in fastboot mode and you will see three icons (I assume again you are on a JB 4.2 bootloader. In older bootloaders you had 4 icons and had to select the USB icon to get into fastboot mode):
RCK - (which should be flashing) is your recovery (the stock recovery at this point, but once TWRP is installed this is one way to get into it)
Android - is your system, selecting it boots you back to into your ROM.
Wipe Data - stay away! Especially with custom software installed never, ever use this option!
To toggle between the three icons use Volume Down, to select one use Volume Up. Try it but do not push Volume Up when the 'Wipe data' icon is flashing!
Installing ADB and fastboot plus the necessary drivers
For a working ADB/fastboot connection from PC to tablet you need:
a) Asus device drivers – if you connect the tablet to your PC and it's recognized as a portable device you should be ok. If not, download the Asus Sync Utility from their support/downloads site and install it to get the drivers, then uninstall the program from your PC if you don't want it. The drivers will stay.
b) Fastboot and ADB drivers which will be installed if you run the tool below.
Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10:
Download and run this cool little tool [TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer v1.1 - xda-developers (don't forget to hit the Thanks button)
The tool installs the adb and fastboot.exe to a folder on your C:\ drive (look for adb) and the corresponding drivers. Takes about 15 seconds.
On Windows 8 and 10 you need to turn off the driver verification feature. Here's a great video on how to do it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afrvSGiMAtk
Or - even better - here's a quick command line toggle to achieve the same (thank you @Jack_Hardin):
Jack_Hardin said:
If you're running W10, you can disable Device Driver Signing without following the procedure in the linked video, but by (more simply) right-clicking on the Start button, selecting Command Prompt (Admin) and then typing:
Code:
BCDEDIT /set nointegritychecks ON
Doing the same with OFF at the end of the string, as easy to guess as it looks, will reenable them.

Win XP (and all other Win versions if the above does not work for some reason)
I recommend the "ADB Install Tool" mentioned above or the 'Minimal ADB Fastboot Tool': [TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot [7-18-13] - xda-developers
Either works fine.
If you need the drivers, get them here and install manually in Device Manager:[ADB/FB/APX Driver] Universal Naked Driver 0.72 (We dont need no stinking HTC Sync) - xda-developers
Win7 and Win8 users seem to have the best luck wth the drivers sbdags provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2646279
It's fine if you want to use his Recovery Install Tool from that thread. But I highly recommend you familiarize yourself with basic fastboot commands! There are lots of tuturials all over the web.
Linux:Check out this site https://code.google.com/p/adb-fastboot-install/
iOS:[GUIDE] Set up ADB and Fastboot on a Mac easily (With Screenshots!) - xda-developers or:
http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...-mac-os-x-send-commands-your-htc-one-0151178/
The fun begins
Fastboot does not play well with USB 3.0, so use a USB 2.0 port for this. And no hubs and such....
Boot the tablet into fastboot mode and connect it to your computer via the original USB cable
In Windows Explorer navigate to the folder that contains your adb.exe and fastboot.exe
Win 7/8: Shift + right click and select "Open command window here".
For Win XP click here
select 'Run' from the Start menu, type
Code:
cmd
and hit Enter. In the resulting command prompt type
Code:
cd C:\adb\ [I](or whatever the path to your fastboot folder is..)[/I]
In the command window on your PC type:
Code:
fastboot devices
If that command returns a string of numbers and letters, you are good as gold.
Click me: View attachment 3070087
If it returns: "No devices found", fastboot is not working - yet - and you have to troubleshoot.
Getting the correct drivers working can be the hardest part of this exercise. If your computer does not "see" the tablet in fastboot, try to uninstall the existing driver (if any) in Device Manager and manually install the drivers I linked to above. And if Windows does not cooperate at all, PM me and I can hook you up with a Puppy Linux live CD with fastboot/adb set up already.
Let's assume everything is good:
On your computer go here: https://dl.twrp.me/tf300t/
Download the latest version of TWRP.
FYI ONLY: If, for whatever reason, you want to format your data partition:
Formatting /data starting with TWRP 2.7.x and later takes a lot longer than in previous versions (up to 90 minutes). LET IT FINISH. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE FORMATTING.
Rename the file to twrp.blob and place it into the same directory as your fastboot.exe. Note: More recent versions of TWRP download with an .img extension. Leave the extensions as is, rename the first part to watever is easy to type
Again check the connection with
Code:
fastboot devices
If you get the connection, in the command window type:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
or
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.img
This will flash the recovery to the recovery partition
If it is successful type:
Code:
fastboot reboot
and let the tablet boot up normally.
You may get a dialog in TWRP offering to root the stock rom. You can accept or cancel it - doesn't matter. I assume you are going to install a custom rom and they are rooted anyway.
Create a nandroid
Your almost there! You are now on the stock ROM with a custom recovery installed.
Power the tablet down and boot into the bootloader menu with Volume Down and Power buttons.
With RCK flashing, push Volume Up and you should boot into TWRP. Familiarize yourself with the many options of the touch based interface without executing anything yet. TWRP is very user friendly. You basically cannot do anything of consequence "by accident", so don't be shy.
To create your Nandroid (a full system backup) touch "Backup", leave the default selection as they are and swipe the button to create a nandroid of your current system.
This is a very healthy habit to develop: You always want to have a nandroid of your last working system squared away so that you can do a simple restore if you flash something that does not work, or something goes wrong during a flash. With a working recovery and a good nandroid you are minutes away from a working system if you soft brick your tablet.
Hint:
It's a good idea to have at least one good nandroid on external media. Sooner or later you will format your data partition and if you're like me, you may forget to backup your nandroids in the heat of the moment..
Installing a custom ROM
From here on out it's as easy as downloading the installation file of your custom ROM, booting into TWRP, choosing "Install" and navigating to the zip of the ROM you want to flash.
If you see a "signed" in the zip file name (best_rom_ever_signed.zip), make sure you check "verify zip signature" under the "Install" menu. Some devs sign their ROM zips - a better way to ensure file integrity than md5 sum.
Whatever you decide to flash: READ THE OP of the corresponding thread and make sure you have the correct bootloader and the required recovery installed! I can't stress this enough! If you are not sure, DO NOT FLASH!
Look for the ROMs in the Development section of the XDA forum for this tablet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf300t/development
It is mandatory to do a Factory Wipe in TWRP before installing a custom ROM or going from one ROM base to another (a so called clean install).
If you choose 'Wipe' in TWRP, all you have to do is swipe the button - 'Factory Wipe' is the default selection under the 'Wipe' menu. You will loose your apps, but it will not wipe your /data/media/ folder where your files, pictures, etc live.
If you do this right before flashing the custom ROM, make sure you have the zip file of your custom ROM on your microSD - not on your internal SD where it may get wiped....
Once you installed a custom recovery NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES - AND I REPEAT: NEVER! - use the 'Wipe Data' option from the bootloader menu or the "Factory Reset" option in Settings > Backup&Restore.
In your custom recovery you have the option to wipe, backup and restore every partition on your tablet selectively or collectively. Any wiping, any backup and any restore of the system, data, recovery or boot partitions MUST be done in your recovery (or in fastboot)!
You can safely use Titanium Backup or Asus Backup for apps and settings, but that's it. For everything else use your recovery.
FREE ADVICE
There are alternative methods to flash a recovery to your device using apps like GooManager (currently not supported anyway), TWRP Manager or Flashify from the Play Store which do it right from your tablet. These apps "save you the trouble" of getting ADB and fastboot set up and working on your PC. These methods still exist and they do work - mostly - and if you have root. But I would not recommend them.
If you are not willing to invest the time to learn the basics about ADB and fastboot (google "adb fastboot xda tutorial") and install the necessary drivers on your PC, you should not be flashing anything to your tablet!
GET ADB AND FASTBOOT WORKING!
Sooner or later you will do something stupid (I have done it and so will you) and ADB/fastboot may save your bacon IF you had it working when you didn't really need it.

Wow, I've never had so much trouble rooting a device before! And days ago, I rooted my T700 without any problems. So, I guess I should have expected the hubby's TF300T to be problematic! Recoveries didn't work, I tried multiple ones. Eventually, I had a recovery that didn't recognize any partitions. I used fastboot to erase them all and put the stock ROM back on--wouldn't boot up. This thread was an immense help! I've moved the other recoveries and ROMs into my non-working folder!
Thanks again!

Awesome
What a well written guide! I have a decent understanding of fastboot and adb (although minimal experience), and I perfectly understood every step.
My advice to all newbies like me.... Read stuff ALL of the way through (and understand it), BEFORE stepping off in it.
ok im a bit lost... i have rooted both Nexus 7s, nook hd and hd+, a tf101, and a few tv boxes.. so im not sure why this is hanging up... im trying to root and install the TWRP recovery on a tf300... followed the instructions and even have the char string that means... every thing should be good to go.... have checked that the twrp is in the dir of adb... but when i try to push the twrp.blob to the tf300, it just give me.. this error..
c:\adb>fastboot devices
015d14febf64041b fastboot
c:\adb>fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
sending 'recovery' (6800 KB)...
FAILED (command write failed (Invalid argument))
finished. total time: 0.002s
so.. at this point i not sure what else to trouble shoot... the tablet is in fastboot mode.. adb sees the tablet.. at least that is what the char string confirms.... so any help would be very much appreciated.. just a bit lost on this...

Nice guide!
I've been wanting to put a custom rom on my transformer for a long time. This guide worked like a charm.
The only problem I had was when I tried to flash TWRP recovery, but switching USB port fixed that problem.
I flashed the latest CM12.1 nightly and it works fine.
Many thanks!
Help please, I'm stuck!
I'm trying to flash recovery,
after typing:
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob
I got this on tablet screen:
"Starting Fastboot USB download protocol"
for about 25-30 already and nothing happens, any ideas?
thanks
You won't see anything on the tablet screen, but what does the command window say?
Go back, read the guide again, it's all in there....

Thank you for this good tutorial but I have one question.
I'm a newbie here, here is my dilemma: I've flashed CM android 5.1.1 successfully from stock 4.2. (Thanks for this detailed tutorial), but I lost my root privileges, now I can't use my root apps. How do I apply root to this ROM? My device is an ASUS TF300T. I've tried Kingo Root and King Root but no success.
I would really appreciate your help and inputs.
Cheers!

I have not used CM in quite a while but I think you have to enable root in Developer Options. I think it is not enabled by default.
If hat does not work you can go to Chainfire's website and download the flashable SuperSU and just flash it in recovery
Thanks and a couple of notes on TF300T
Thanks so much for the great guide. My 300TF was nearly bricked due to slowness and freeze-ups. I'd stopped using it. The process worked and am now running KatKiss. Couple of problems and their solutions for anyone who may have the 300TF:
-When trying to "Unlock Bootloader" I kept getting to "enter Google password" but when I did so (correctly) it was not accepted. The solution was to do another factory reset and NOT install google services. Didn't ask for password after that.
-Used fastboot command line to install "twrp.blob" but nothing happened and it timed out. I had to take out other usb connect programs first (in my case "easy-tether" and my LG phone connect app.) After that everything went as per your guide.
Thanks again

[GUIDE] [ROOT] LG K7 MS330 - Concise tutorial on rooting with: ADB, TWRP and SuperSU

***MOD EDIT: BE WARNED THAT WHEN PERFORMING THESE INSTRUCTIONS, THAT ALL DATA WILL BE WIPED (FACTORY RESET) FROM THE DEVICE - THIS INCLUDES THE INTERNAL DEVICE STORAGE (INTERNAL SDCARD). YOUR EXTERNAL SD FILES, HOWEVER, ARE SAFE AND WILL NOT BE MODIFIED.***
Hello.
I will attempt to keep this tutorial as concise as humanly possible, without the expenditure of costly applicably valid information. There are many other persons (whom I do not know) to thank for the majority of this information (from XDA Developers and other sites around the world wide web). Without further adieu: Let's begin!
The base operating system that this tutorial references is a Windows distro (I am operating on: Windows 10 Home OEM).
Target phone specs (http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-MS330-White-k7):
Carrier: MetroPCS®[*]
[*]Make: LG K7 ("HW" or "White")
[*]Model: LG MS330
[*]Build number: LMY47V
[*]Software version: MS33010m
[*]Android version: 5.1.1
[*]Android security patch level: 2017-04-01
[*]Kernel version: 3.10.49
Prerequisites:
A USB cable (able to transfer data)
A functional copy of Windows
An internet connection (to download the software tools)
If you opt to not download and install the stock firmware ROM (*.kdz) and LG UP (used for many things):
You are taking a great risk in the event something catastrophic occurs (no backup; Corrupted partition(s); Broken hard-key reset; etc).
The LG UP tool combined with the ROM file enables you to fully slate the drive on the phone (effectively restoring it to a manufacturers state; No partitions, no data, nothing!).
It also acts as a major fail-safe as previously iterated.
You can also (if you take the time of day) use it to create your own customized 'factory style' bloatware free, customized filled state *.KDZ ROM! Although TWRP backups should be capable of emulating this type of behavior.
The ROM is ~1GB in file size from the server (capped at ~10MB/s download rate at the time of the writing of this post). Translation: It takes a while (~30min) to download. Fortunately for me: I had it and had to use it earlier today (TWRP backup failed).
Software tools (ADB, TWRP, SuperSU, LG UP, ROM):
ADB (Android Debug Bridge): https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) v3.2.1.0: https://twrp.me/lg/lgk7.html
SuperSU (SuperUser) v2.82: http://www.supersu.com/download
LG UP Lab v1.10: https://www.mylgphones.com/download-lg-up-software
Stock ROM (MS33010i -- *.kdz): https://mega.nz/#F!sdwRDLbZ!yPOiRPv5QJS_9I4hzL4ptQ!ddJHSBhR
This will be a step-by-step process; If you skip a step: Make sure you have a good reason!
I will be assuming you have followed the links above and both downloaded and installed the appropriate software (ADB, LG UP). Keeping everything organized is key.
For instance: Create a folder on your main drive ("C" drive is common traditionally). Name this folder "Rooty." Create a short-cut of "adb.exe" and place it there. Place the SuperSU *.zip and *.kdz ROM data files in the same directory as well.
Overview of procedures:
Enable "OEM unlock"
Enable "USB debugging"
Unlock OEM bootloader
Install ("flash") TWRP
Using LG UP (after TWRP is either installed or live loaded)
Install SuperSU
Step 1) Enable developer options
Enabling developer options -- Navigate to "Settings," then to "About phone," then to "Software info," then tap on "Build number" until the dialog states: "No need, you are already a developer."
Step 1.1) Enable OEM unlock option
Traverse two levels up; Tick off "Enable OEM unlock"; Scroll down 2 options and tick off "USB debugging."
Step 2) Unlocking the OEM bootloader
Insert your USB cable to connect your desktop/laptop to your cellphone; When the dialog comes up asking for permission to debug: Accept it (OPTIONAL: Tick off the 'always allow this device'). Ensure "Media device (MTP)" option is selected (it will automatically install the drivers from your phone to your computer if enabled).
Step 2.1) Unlocking the OEM bootloader (for the not-so-technically-inclined)
Create a textfile and name it whatever you'd like (I prefer the filename: "OEM_Unlock.bat").
Copy and paste this script and simply place it in the same directory ('folder') as ADB.
Code:
REM This will reboot the phone into "bootloader" mode
adb reboot bootloader
REM This will unlock the OEM bootloader (a message will display on the starting logo afterwards)
fastboot oem unlock
REM This is just to verify that it was successfully unlocked ("unlocked: yes")
fastboot getvar unlocked
Alternatively: You can manually input the commands one at a time by typing them yourself or copying and pasting.
Step 3) Installing TWRP
You can just use ADB to directly flash the recovery partition of the ROM on the phone:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery C:/Android/recovery.img
You can also simply 'live boot' into TWRP (less risk of a faulty TWRP):
Code:
fastboot boot C:/Android/recovery.img
Now TWRP is installed (unless you simply loaded the image file into the phone's RAM).
Using LG UP to flash the ROM ("WIPE" every partition of the phone with TWRP; EVERYTHING will be lost:
To use LG UP: You only need to power down the phone fully (ensure it is not yet connected to the computer).
Hold the "VOLUME UP" key (do not release); Insert the USB cable. The phone should (within moments) place itself into "DOWNLOAD MODE." At which point LG UP will recognize the phone. There will be two options: "Refurbished" and "Upgrade"; Tick off 'upgrade' every time! Below that is "3 dots" which enables you to navigate (GUI) to the directory of your desired *.tot or *.kdz file. Simply hit "start" and it'll flash the phone (it usually takes ~300s or ~5m).
Step 4) Installing SuperSU
Through TWRP: Click on "Advanced"; Then click on "ADB Sideload"; Tick both the "Wipe Dalvik cache" and "Wipe cache" (these will force all APKs to be reinstalled via root level). Then slide the bar across. Return your attention to Windows.
You can just use ADB to directly sideload SuperSu onto the phone.
Code:
adb sideload C:/Android/SuperSU.zip
The final page asks if you would like to install the "official TWRP app" and also if you'd like to install it under "system" privileges (one less than root).
The end! You now have root accessible privileges through the "SuperSu" application (which contains root privilege at this point).
Alternatively to manually inputing everything by hand into ADB: I've whipped up this simple batch script for Windows:
Code:
ECHO OFF
CD\
CLS
ECHO Waiting for the device to communicate (ensure you are not in 'recovery,' 'sideload,' or 'bootloader' state)
adb wait-for-device
REM Reboots to the bootloader
adb reboot bootloader
REM Unlocks the OEM bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
REM Quick check to see if it successfully unlocked
fastboot getvar unlocked
REM Flashes (deleting the stock ROM recovery program)
fastboot erase recovery
REM Flashes (copies the TWRP custom recovery program)
fastboot flash recovery C:/Android/recovery.img
REM Loads the TWRP custom recovery program into memory (a "live boot")
fastboot boot C:/Android/recovery.img
REM Pauses execution until the phone boots into "recovery" state
ECHO Wait until the phone enters a "recovery" state...
adb wait-for-recovery
CLS
ECHO Traverse to "Advanced" then to "ADB Sideload"
ECHO Check off clearing both the Dalvik cache and cache
ECHO Press any key *after* you swipe the bar across
ECHO(
PAUSE
REM Copies over the APK to the ROM (security exploit to gain root permissions)
adb sideload C:/Android/SuperSU.zip
adb reboot
How to use the batch script file to root your phone with ADB, TWRP and SuperSU:
Place: SuperSU.zip and TWRP.img in the same directory as the ABD/fastboot executables
Modify the absolute paths and file names to your system (EG: "C:/Android/" and "recovery.img")
I hate to post this, but I feel it to be utterly important to express my deepest gratitude to all those who have posted this information that was scattered about the internet. This is my first Android or PHONE for that matter to root! It was quite the under-taking (nearly a 48 hour scourge of research). I've learned quite a bit how the Android OS works internally as a result; as well as the tool-kits that are commonly used in conjunction with modding the Android (out of the scope of this thread).
I hope this very recently updated and compiled information will help ease the suffering of another's entrance into the world of rooting Android phones. I also hope it really deepens the understanding of what they're doing (EG: The commands being utilized with abd and fastboot).
Here is a helpful link in regards to adb/fastboot:
- Quick reference to abd commands (syntax and meaning): https://developer.android.com/studio/command-line/adb.html
- Alternatively: You can use "adb help" to see a print-out of the commands and arguments (same applies to fastboot).
Happy rooting, y'all!
Thanks for the write-up!
The attached SuperSU.zip worked perfect to gain root on my K7 m1 using the adb sideload in Twrp and PC.
My bootloader I had already unlocked. Twrp, I flashed before I accomplished that feat!
Was rooted with Kingroot but wasn't satisfied with that.
Factory reset, and followed your adb sideload instructions to gain root with SuperSU.zip ..
Thanks again my friend.
Custom Roms for the K7 seem to be scarce, unless I am looking in all the wrong places.
Would be much appreciated if anyone could help me on that front?? ... Please let me know.
Good Day
With very insignificant changes to syntax used above I found this works perfectly on OSX as well.
Thanks

HTC U Ultra stuck in bootloop..Can you experts validate the STEPS to solve the issue?

So, my HTC U Ultra got stuck in bootloop just 3 days after warranty ended(tough luck level : 100).
My phone runs on everything stock and no root.
I press all the buttons when powered off and it goes into bootloader mode. It displays options to boot into recovery mode, boot into download mode and power down, all of which(except power down) gets device into bootloop again.
THE PRIORITY OF GOALS IS : DATA RECOVERY > PHONE BOOTING AND WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN
I did a little research and figured out some sort of procedure by putting bits and pieces together :
1. Download ADB/Fastboot toolkit || universal driver from koush github // I have HTC Sync manager installed as well || twrp custom recovery image for htc u ultra || new ruu from htc support for rom update.
2. Now I put my phone into fastboot mode (since it doesn't show up on adb devices), connect to pc using usb.
3. I type in cmd : "fastboot devices" --> My device shows up there --> Again in cmd : "fastboot boot recovery mytwrp.img" --> the twrp boots into my phone
I was able to put this many steps together and after the last step, i have an abstract idea of what to do :
Enable USB Debugging using twrp recovery --> Use ADB Pull Command to get my all my data from phone to pc --> Use adb wipe the old Firmware (Not sure which command) --> Use adb again to flash new RUU (again not sure how, I've got an .exe file as RUU || should I get it in zip or img or any other format ? || Please help on this too) --> Finally Boot and hopefully everything turns out smooth and secure.
CAN YOU EXPERTS HELP ME TO PUT TOGETHER REMAINING STEPS (AND MODIFY ERRORS, IF ANY, OF EXISTING STEPS ) OF THIS PROCEDURE...???
Only to clarify: ADB and Fastboot are 2 completely different things.
ADB
is a protocol that allows you to communicate with an Android device that got booted, means its main Android OS is running
At Windows command prompt you enter commands - one by one -
Code:
adb devices
adb <ANY_SUPPORTED_ADB_SUBCOMMAND>
FASTBOOT
is a program used to manipulate (list, install, erase) the non-volatile memory such as flash filesystem partitions on devices that adhere to the fastboot protocol, via a USB connection from a host computer. It requires that the device be started in a boot loader mode with the fastboot protocol enabled.
IMPORTANT: Fastboot will only work if the OEM/Carrier has included support for the Fastboot protocol.
At Windows command prompt you enter commands - one by one -
Code:
adb devices
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot <ANY_SUPPORTED_FASTBOOT_SUBCOMMAND>

@jwoegerbauer Yes, thank you for the description, I understood the difference later on. Do you think the fastboot and adb steps I've mentioned will work properly ?

Android boot loop error does not come out of thin air. There are several cases that may cause the Android is starting loop. If phone didn't get physically damaged then an action of the user is the main reason .
To answer your question: NO.
As already said:
ADB is integral part of Android OS hence if Android OS isn't started you can't make use of ADB, Fastboot is integral part of phone's bootloader ( comparable to a Windows PC's UEFI/BIOS ) means you can't access Android OS - will say its folders and files.

@jwoegerbauer Thank you for the insight. In my case, the phone wasn't physically damaged, the bootloop occurred out of the blue one day. Now, what I presumed I should do, is to flash a custom recovery (twrp) using "fastboot boot recovery.img" command, and using twrp (Can I enable USB Debugging using twrp ?) to access files, backup and then flash a new RUU. But I found that I need to unlock bootloader, is there any way to use command "fastboot oem unlock" and not lose data, or any other method to unlock bootloader, where i don't lose data?
Thank you for your help.
Unlocking phone's bootloader always causes complete loss of data.
Forget the TWRP thing, it's not helpful at all in your case.
Try to flash phone's Stock ROM by means of ADB - what requires ADB got installed on Windows computer and USB debugging got ( manually !!! ) enabled on phone.

OnePlus 8 TMO Magisk boot image IN2017_11_C.43

It took a bit of work to root OnePlus 8 T-Mobile version on the latest Android 12 update. I am a long time lurker and simply I wished someone else had posted the boot image to save me time. Can be simply flashed using fastboot commands.
Please check to make sure you are on the latest update from T-Mobile and that software version is: IN2017_11_C.43 Android 12 Security update November 5, 2022.
Installation instructions:
*You must have your phone unlocked for any carrier otherwise OEM unlocking will be unable to set.*
#1 go to settings, about device. TAP software version five times to enable developer options under system settings. Go to developer options and tick the following options:
a OEM Unlocking
b Enable USB debugging
#2 Download the OnePlus 8 Windows drivers and ADB fastboot drivers if your using a PC or Termux from F-Droid if using another rooted phone.
PC instructions:
Go to the directory you installed ADB and Fastboot. Open the command prompt by either right click on an empty space in that folder and finding command prompt or going to the directory tree and typing cmd and hit enter. Inside the Windows command prompt the root directory should be the same folder as your ADB and fastboot executables. Move the attached boot image to the same folder as your ADB and fastboot executables and rename it boot.img. Attach your phone to your PC and run the following commands:
adb devices
This command is so you can check to see if your PC is correctly configured and it should send you a notification on your phone to allow debugging from your PC, make sure you will allow it always.
adb reboot fastboot
This command will reboot your phone into fastboot mode. Do not select any you on your phone and only type in the following commands on your PC.
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img

If only there were the elusive boot image...
It could have saved my ass from the current double-slotted brick I sit upon!
Does anyone have the boot image for the latest T-Mobile update?
IN2017_11_C.45
in fact this isn't even the latest as there is a new update waiting for me with the new security release or security update but I haven't updated yet also does this wipe data?

return from lineage os to oxygen. problem with twrp installation

hello everyone. I haven't modded a smartphone for a long time and I need some help.
after installing lineage os a few years ago now i would like to go back with oxygen but i have problems with the installation of twrp.
I installed the platform tools and drivers and placed the twrp image in the (platform tools) folder.
debugging enabled
launching the command in the windows prompt: adb reboot bootloader the smartphone restarts correctly and shows me the screen with the choice START RESTART RECOVERY POWER OFF
the fastboot devices command, however, does not return any results
inserting the adb rebbot fastboot command instead the phone starts correctly in lineage os fastboot mode and now the fastboot devices command gives the result
now I enter the folder where I copied the twrp image cd c:\platform-tools and I give the command fastboot boot twrp.img (the file is renamed TWRP)
but this is the result
c:\platform-tools>fastboot boot twrp.img
Sending 'boot.img' (33116 KB) OKAY [ 0.995s]
Booting FAILED (remote: 'Unrecognized command boot')
fastboot: error: Command failed
Can someone be kind enough to help me. I have made many different attempts to no avail.
Thank you!

Hello,
let me see if i can help,
but i need some info....
Which the LineageOS version
your device currently running ?
Is your 6T a global or T-Mobile version ?
hi, thanks for the reply. it is a secondary phone and has an old lineage version. yesterday with a different PC than usual I managed to install the latest version of twrp from cmd after solving a partition problem. i installed twrp only theoretically since after reboot the lineage prompt doesn't start and the boot stops at the screen with fastboot written... by forcibly turning it off I can access the bootloader. this is the current situation. 6t golobal...
developments ... from what I wrote above I could not get any progress. the device goes into bootloader mode manually but from the windows prompt it is not detected by the adb device command or by fastboot device .. so I can't advance ...
Going back to stock version does not necessarily
imply the use of a custom recovery,
you just need to use the MSM/rollback tool.
You can download it from THIS thread.
Use the earlier version of the tool as
you don't know wich exactly the
version of android installed in your device,
9.0.16 suggested.
When you will have a running device,
manually download and install OOS 9.0.17 firmware,
which will let your device to upgrade to android 10 and so on...
READ carefully @iaTa THREAD to follow exact MSM procedure.
Use a Windows pc and be sure
you have installed Oneplus driver.
Feel free to ask.
