Shutter Speed confirmation - Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium Questions & Answers

Does anyone know if the slowest shutter speed of the XZ2 Premium has been increased or it's still 1 sec as the slowest? Hope some early adopters can confirm this, or those people who'll have a hand's on experience with the device in stores once its available in specific regions.
Thanks!

Not sure if this helps

With the camera in manual mode, the slowest shutter speed listed is 1 sec. Fastest is 1/4000. My disappointment with the camera in manual mode is that there is no full manual white balance mode. Only 4 presets (incandescent, fluorescent, sun, clouds) and auto.

Increase camera shutter speed

Is there any way to increase the camera shutter speed? I want to capture pictures faster and clearer. Pictures I'm taking seem to have a tendency to blur if I don't have completely steady hands. It seems even slower than my GS2, and much slower than my gf's Note 2. I've tried some apps such as the highly rated procapture and camera fv-5 but with unsatisfying results. I just want to get more out of my phone not trying to insult the Nexus 4 or anything...so don't flame me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I agree with you. I wish to use the stock camera app. as it uses complete screen without any cluttered menus but its shutter speed is very slow..due to its focusing. I know ppl will flame by saying it needs time to focus but why does it has to be with Nexus 4 only? All other high spec'd phones cameras take shots very quickly. The hardware is of course very capable...its just the scripting of stock app I guess.
Moreover for the shaky pics.I use third party Cam Apps like Camera FZ Zoom and ProCapture (tried a few others too but they were just ok), the pictures turn out to be better than stock.
If only this is fixable, i have missed so many shots because of such long period to focusa nd then take a pic. Infact by the time that is done, i end up getting hazy pics anyways.
No. If there is someone hasn't come up with one. The specs of the camera is determined by the hardware and the software probably already uses it to its full capability despite other options which can be set by the user in the camera app.
I agree that the camera tends to default to slower shutter speeds. Of course faster shutter speeds raise ISO which results in more noise.
What was unsatisfactory about your experience with FV5. My recollection is that it allows you to hard set the ISO higher which will result in faster shutter speeds.
Also the 'action' mode on the stock camera will try to use faster shutter speeds as well.

No matter what I do, it's just really slow. I really think it's just the camera's not that amazing. It's satisfactory and is be able to to take pictures though; I guess that's what counts. I mean this was a budget phone, how can you sell it for 349 off contract, that's amazing. You have to skimp somewhere. Doesn't hold a candle to the Note 2 though sadly. That phone can burst shot a whole bunch of pictures in a millisec. I hope I'm wrong though and our developers can figure out a way to improve this phone's camera.

Download FAST BURST CAMERA from app store. It will not only give you BURST MODE but also crazily increase the shutter speed. Try it.

But at the cost of seriously downsampled resolution.

I realized, that when you put the scene mode to sunset mode. the shutter speed will stick at 1/20 all the time. which is pretty good.
will be my default mode from here now on. dont worry about the white balance. its pretty ok.

Manual shutter speed on n6p

I want to set shutter speed at 30 sec like on my old g4 but i can't find an app that allows me do that. I tried manual camera and pro shot but the minimum shutter speed is only 1/5 sec

Proshot has "light paint" mode which allows longer shutter speeds...
Nexus 6P seems to be limited to 1/5 (0.2s).

Thanks but it's not what I want (with g4 i can photograph a night sky full of stars for example.)...dp you know if these .2 sec are an hardware limitation or if it is software? If it's the second may someone CAM change this!

It's currently impossible on the 6p. The hardware has been locked down. Devs can't change that. Like I just finished telling someone else, take it to Google...maybe they'll listen if enough people complain.

Buying G4 Plus for Camera

Hello,
I have read mixed reviews of the G4 Plus camera, while DxoMark gives it a score of 84. Many others consider it average in day light and worst in low light,
can anyone can post unedited/un-cropped images for sample. Is the G4 Plus a good buy as camera phone ?
Thank you.
In my experience it's a very good camera for a phone. Pictures here won't mean probably too much, since you have no reference point and the low resolution imposed by XDA.
Okay, let me tell you my experience. It's a good camera overall. Takes very vivid and sharp images in daylight ie in good conditions. But It has an average to above-average performance in low light conditions but..but..but.. certainly better than many phones that are in its price range. Another thing I wanna mention is that it struggles to snap moving objects. It's 'cause the g4 plus lacks optical image stabilization. I think for many of us It'd be a big deal. For me it's NOT.
I would certainly recommend this phone for phone photography.

Does this moving objects lag happens in manual mode as well ? when shutter is set to higher speed or only in auto mode ?
i think the fastest shutter speed is 1/5 in pro mode can you confirm this ?
Thanks
For camera, this phone is goooood.....?
But you should also pay attention to other issues like heating while camera is in use for more time and screen burn and ghosts touch..
( while screen burn and ghost touch is not common in all device, but if your luck is working wrong then you will have to face them )

I seriously doubt that is another phone with a better camera at this price point ($300). In low level light or in daylight. You need to move up to $700 to get a better camera (like added optical zoom and stabilization).
Now, I always say that phones cannot compete with dedicated cameras, therefore they should not be used for planned photo sessions (like when you expect to have great subjects).
Well HTC desire 628 ( my last phone ) gave shutter speed of 1/8000. so i don't want to get anything lower than that. Other option i got is ZTE Nubia Z11 which has an Sony Exmor 298 but not sure if its good enough

will try it.
The camera is good for the phone price but it has some quirks which make me irritated.
1. Slow focus, 1 in 3 shots would not have got focused, I notice this issue in pics with people, workaround is to wait additional second after it shows as focused, not always practical. This is probably biggest flaw of this phone. DxO remarks this in their review as well.
2. My earlier phone was nexus 5, OIS made the photos 99% of the time sharp and blur free. With G4 I have to keep my hands extremely steady in poor lighting.
3. I also find the images to be bit over sharpened, not a big deal though. Dynamic range is not that great either, has tendency to blow out sky and highlights.
4. Wide angle lens, didn't like this as objects seem to get curved across the edges of pic, this can and should have been fixed via post processing but moto decided to ignore it.
5. Finally the video recording with EIS is great but heats up the phone like crazy if shooting for long time.
For the price of phone I can forgive issue 2 and 3 but 1st one makes me hate the phone camera as I need to always check if it came out alright. Had I known it before I bought I would have skipped it.
Compared to phones in this price range though it's still decent and great when it works well. Most of the phone seems to have similar issues in this price range.

Anyone Know how to unlock 6400ISO option? (and stop video shutter speed falling)

I Know the camera is capable of this, you can repeat, go on camera in auto mode and take a pic in complete darkness. Check the meta data and it says 6400ISO but I can't seem to use it in Manual mode, or in video.
Also does anyone know an app to stop the video shutter speed dropping below 30, it makes it very blurry and it should go to 6400ISO instead of dropping speed

Don't know about using 6400 ISO in manual mode, but I do know you can stop the video shutter speed going below 30 by changing video quality in the settings from Quality to Performance. I couldn't figure out what the difference was for the longest time, they both had the same bitrates and quality levels. I eventually figured out that it refers to the minimum shutter speed the camera can use in video - Quality will slow it down as far as it can to ensure proper exposure, whereas Performance will keep it locked to 30 and above. Quality seems to be a bit too aggressive, slowing down the shutter speed by quite a lot in even fairly-lit situations where simply increasing the ISO would suffice. I keep it changed to Performance for this reason.

Thankyou, it did bug me at first when I was talking G about my shiny new 4K video recording phone and it turned to a blurry mess, this will help a lot, thanks!
