HELP / Screen burn (HTC U-ULTRA) - HTC U Ultra Questions & Answers

Hello guys. I want to talk with you about screen burn on u-ultra.
Last month I realized this problem on the sides of the screen. It appears usually after 15 secons of using my phone screen ( especially when I have more white color on the screen). It took a little space on screen at the begining, but now its just getting worse , like 2cm from each sides of the screen. It appears like red (sometimes green ) color. And I only can see it when I have something on gray color on screen.
So, here is my questions, do you have screen burns too ? Most importantly, how can I fix it( Its getting worse) ? Does HTC universal guarantee includes to fix this ?
If you can help me please write it down , I will be so glad
Thank you

I met that problem on M8, M9 and now on my Ultra. Not the big deal, just let the phone cool down and it's will be back to normal. We are in summer, many phone have this trouble when the temp become too hot.

It's not burn-in, burn-in is permanent while this is temporary, this is first mobile i have seen facing issue like this, Nothing can be done, it's hardware related, Settings the color temperature to cold used it fix this while on nougat, but not on Oreo, some custom kernel with K-Cal support will definitely help but i don't think that'll happen.

I have same porblem on my Htc U ultra (indiea verseion).. Its bug me alot.. I will ask for screen repairment. Is that will solve my problem or the new screen will ghosting again?
I also notice that is my screen able to scrach even its gorilla glass 5... I see some microscraches on the screen i dont how they born.. I always take care about my phone and screen.

Yeah, Every U Ultra will have screen burn issue. Replace screen can not fix it forever, it will happen again.
Gorilla Glass 5 still need protect like older version (sand, keys,... will scratch it like usual)

so how can fix this ??? i see the homescreen icons in transprant when screen dim by black shadow....like pulldown notification bar or power menu

I noticed the appearance of this spot on the screen Mobily .. And then emerged the problem of the screen .. What is This spot? .. No exposure to any pressure on the screen or any damage .. Is it possible to be moisture?
And what to do ? Mobily put the rice and did not succeed .. Is there a solution?

U Ultra has many display problems
1. Hot Spot or light leakage. Light visible on the side of the display especially on black patterns.
2. Image sticking. When you keep for long time same image on the display, after you change to different image, shadow of previous image is still visible. This image sticking is not permanent damage and will disappear after you keep the display On with a white image.
3. Image burning. This is a permanent damage visible on almost all images. Can have multiple root cause, but most of the cases the problem is generated by to much heat from not properly designed components inside the phone.
Conclusion:
You have to ask for a product replacement because of design and execution flaws.

Just FYI this is not a universal problem, I've had no issues with my device at all.

what could it be?!?
Thanks!
Hi, I also have this on mine. I had one spot, but now it have been split into two smaller spots. I'm not sure what it is, seems like some kind of liquid??. When I press my finger on it, it floats around. I'll be happy if anyone can explain what this is. Maybe my dear Trinity needs a service ?.
i sent an email to the htc support with the photo of the problem...waiting for an answer!
It looks like liquid between the digitizer and the LCD.
you need send Trinity to assistance... your lcd screen need to be changed
little bit of advice, send it via the retailer you purchased from. Not direct to HTC. Retailers (in my experience) can get a little funny if you bypass them.
but,it comes an goes randomly...for example, yesterday night it was there and from this morning until now there's nothing...
could be the magnet of htc case
you can explain better?
my english isn't good, but the clip magnet of the case have a little attraction also inside the case... so maybe a magnet a little bit more "power" **** your touchscreen... pda should put into case always with touchscreen beside magnet because battery take a good shield and you haven't problems... but in your case it's late. I think it's the magnet of case that broke your touchscreen... check if direction of touchscreen problem is the same of Clip
here the answer of the htc team:
"Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe support.
With regards to your query, it is a possible fault with the handset. I would advise that you contact your retailer. However if they are unable to assist please respond and we will assist you further."
I dont know to express right in english, but i try: If you go from a warm humid place to a cold place water in the air is condensing (!?)) on surface (like in winter on thin windows) that could explain why this happens only sometimes.

Moisture is the possible problem. I had a SonyEricsson P800 that I dropped in the lake. It had the same type of discoloration, only worse because it was IN the lake. It finally dried out and even worked but there were always little bubbles (minerals) in between the plastic touch membrane and the LCD screen. Try putting your phone in a slightly warm dry place overnight.
Ok,thank you.
This morning i have put the P3600 in a packing with 4 envelop of "silican gel",anti-moisture.... what you think about this?

probably best to stick it in the airing cupboard. That would be nice n warm.
At my work, our engineers keep getting pentablets wet (when it rains - they use them as an umbrella), I advise them to stick it in the airing cupboard, and it works a treat.
Hi guys,
I have this phone for more than a month and I have exaclty the same problem.
I went back to my retailer and when I showed the screen there was nothing !!
Yes it is definitively random.
But I am not sure this is not linked to the protection. I noticed this problem after I put the protection and even if there is still the problem when you put off the protection, it seems to disappear after a while.
So my question is : is there a guy having this issue and who has never used a protection ? And if you remove your protection, is it totally disappearing or not after a while ?
One last thing, when you have the problem have you try to remove partially the protection ? On my screen the shadow becomes bigger !!
EDIT : I Have a new case (noreve) with a magnet button at the bottom (so not on the screen) and I still have the problem
hi!
well, i start to think that there's a link with the screen protector (i have a brando ultra clear). Could be that the the screen protector with his electrostatic power attracts too much the "touch screen" creating separation from the lcd screen?
Because thinking about, there was no problem until i try to install the screen protector...we should try to uninstall the screen protector for some days, and look if the problem comes back...
This is my protection :
http://www.covertecstore.com/fr/t-s...00-t-mobile-mda-compact-screen-protector.html
I think there was two kind of protection, one ultra clear and the other ultra ....
You can do the test to remove the screen protection for few days and check if you still have the problem.

I'm testing what you said...tomorrow i will tell you what has happened...
did you try to remove che screen protection for few days???
News:
without screen protector, there isn't the problem...
so,i think there are two possible options:
1)the screen protector ,with his electrostatic power, attracts too much the "touch screen" creating a little separation from the touch screen and the lcd screen;
2)when I removed the screen protector with the scotch,i involuntarily raise the touch screen from the lcd favoring the exit of the moisture that probably had entered some time before.
What you think?Did you try to uninstall the screen protector?

[Q] Possible weak screen spot?

Hello,
I have my Z3C for a few days now and I think it is great!
I haven't drop it (yet) so everything is alright. Still I found a possible weak screen spot.
I was tapping the screen a litte big rough and I noticed some colours changed. You know, the regular changing of colours when performing force on a LCD screen.
It is just right of the text "slide to unlock" on the lock screen and doesn't take much force.
I applied some force to every part of the screen and noticed that the same spot showed those weird colours.
Is anyone else noticing this and might this be a weak spot?
Picture(can't post links yet):
i.imgur.com/bHWrCzM.jpg
Upload a picture of it
All OK on mine just checked.
<deleted>
Any pictures of this?
I tested mine and it seems fine.
Just dropped it a few minutes ago, it is more slippery as sope.
I just added a picture of the possible weak spot.(i.imgur.com/bHWrCzM.jpg)
I noticed the same sort of problem.
I have had my handset for about a week now (pre-ordered on Sony store, received it on Oct. 7th), it's an orange D5803, production labeled as 14W37.
Last weekend, a few days after owning it, I spotted at first a brighter spot at the bottom of the screen. As I left on the original protecting plastic foil, at first I thought some air just got trapped underneath it. After removing the protection layer for applying a proper plastic protection, I figured it actually was a screen bright spot.
Investigating further this issue, I noticed than by touching at the bottom of the front glass, "color waves" typical of suffering LCD displays appear up to the spot all along a vertical line, which I figured being an internal reinforcement or otherwise part of the inner structure.

As I tried to render with this "3D scan" of the front glass surface (both the phone and the light source were fixed, the point of view for the camera moving in order to perform a full swipe), the screen seems to be "pushed up" from the inside of the phone, just underneath the bright spot.

EDIT: As I turned off the device, I had the opportunity to check a theory I had formulated in these days: the SIM tray appears to end up exactly underneath the bright spot, thus its supporting structure (faulty design tolerances/incorrect assembly?) may be involved in "pushing up" the screen from the inside.
I will contact the support service tomorrow, just to avoid ending up with a damaged screen in a few months of use.
i think i have a similar issue with my z3c. A strange dark spot appeared near the middle of the screen. I'm going to contact support tomorrow.

Can you test this by starting up your phone without the sim card?
I also see a sort of yellowish tint. Is that also there in reality or just in the picture?
And have you been putting a lot of excessive pressure on your screen while doing tests?

In fact (sorry I did not document that), I turned the device on without the SIM card tray, both checking my hypothesis on its geometry (superimposing the tray to the screen) and the screen behavior.
Whereas the geometry was compliant to my idea, the bright spot was still there - perhaps because the screen is damaged already? - and the behavior on touching the glass bottom was the same. But for the latter I was not surprised, as the vertical line has apparently nothing to do with the SIM card tray alone.

If for the "yellowish tint" you are referring to the two diagnostics (whole screen) pictures, I am afraid it's more of a "color aliasing" issue with the camera I used, as to the bare eye the white color is absolutely uniform at every lighting level, except for that infamous spot.
degraaff said:

I wouldn't say so. The "tests" I did barely went beyond noticing the issue, in fact the "touch" picture was taken with the finger pushing very lightly on the glass. You just can see that spot all the time on a white / light background. I usually carry my phone in the front pocket, but that shouldn't apply any excess or continuous pressure on the screen glass.
i had to edit the picture because I have taken the picture with low light conditions. It's just to have an idea of what I'm talking about

Few seconds it's working good, but then it returns to all green or all mixed. And when i lock my phone, it starts to become green, even when it's locked?? Tried going to safe mode, soft and master reset, nothing is working. Any ideas? Thank u guys!

Open a ticket with Samsung and send it in for a screen replacement. if there is no water damage or physical damage they will fix it for free under warranty.

Very sorry to hear about it

Now slowly, the green screen would start to flicker at times and lo one day, it would turn into a pale green light. You wont be able to do anything with the phone.
My IMMEDIATE ADVICE ...
TAKE a COMPLETE BACKUP of your data as soon as you read this message.
Secondly
Try turning the Blue Light filter off, Change the saturation of the phone and see if you are still seeing the green shade,
Send this device to service center.
EDIT :- Just now noticed the OP's date is almost a year old.
I got a same issue too today ****sung!
Is there a fix ? i dont wanna pay 250$ to replace the screen.it works well in full brightness
i got the same green screen on galaxy s8+ today after using it for 2 years i had custom kernel with hari rom, the phone is usable in full brightness, it has green overlay with horizontal line flickering over it i think this a motherboard issue, have your issue resolved ? what you did? i am thinking to change board and see
I have fixed my phone twice with this problem. You need to heat up the screen. Full brightness then record video for an hour. You should see the greenness recede. If there are green lines st the bottom which don't disappear, use a hairdryer on the screen. You will see the green vanish in 30seconds. When the phone cools, it will come back. You need to keep regularly reheating your screen to get rid of it, like every 20 minutes for a day or, 2. Eventually it will clear up. It's a pixel what issue. Heating the screen repeatedly restores functionality, after least in my case.

It is correct that it works in full brightness. Turn off the adaptive brightness and voila you can continue to work with full brightness. However, you can also reduce your
pixel to full HD from QHD to continue in this mode. I have been working on this for last few days else the ****sung care only want's to replace the screen combo .
Will try the heating methodology. I have doubts about battery also and planning to change and see.
Same issue just popped up today for me. Rooted nougat ROM with safestrap. It's definitely not the screen itself, and it's behavior is Sunday strange, it'll show up on webpages or other screens that are mostly white, but not on the dark mode applications.
so it's green on this thread and it gets less green when I open Chrome's settings on the top right.
Reboot fixes it. Until it comes back again.
Started to face this green tint issue on my S8 recently, the phone worked well for the past two years until suddenly one day this green **** happened. Never dropped the phone and never rooted it. For now rebooting the phone solves the issue, until it comes back. Till now it happened 5-6 times in a week. Rebooting fixes it and then it runs normally for sometime (or somedays) then it happens again.
Any solution?
Apparently it is a software problem, something about some screens batch that does not received well those new patches. i took my s8 g950fd at a Samsung authorized store and is was what they told me, but they don't fix it for free if it is not on warranty even though it is a Samsung software problem. I have tried to root and change roms, but it seems my cellphone does not accept root or new roms. if some one know how to help me id be grateful.
my screen has green after unlock bootloader. i didn´t anything, so im tired :/
Sounds like a firmware bug* on at least some of these. Samsung tech support sucks elephant balls bad. Obviously Samsung is well aware of this issue by now.
*during a production run Samsung will substitute smaller chipsets and components as needed. This can cause erratic firmware/update behavior as the substituted components don't have the correct values and/or code. If so you're in a fubar because Samsung is unlikely to supply the needed patch at this late date.
You can try flashing the original firmware, be wary of updates. It could be a system apk update as well.
It could also be a hardware failure on a whole batch(es) of these phones.
started having this problem suddenly now, didn't drop it, didn't do any updates. wow!

[HELP] OnePlus 5 - weird LCD problem

Greetings dear people of this forum!
Few days ago my phone's display started behaving in a very weird way (could be a minor drop down).
When I press the power button to draw the pattern, the whole screen is full of disturbed horizontal lines (pic_1).
If I apply some pressure on the screen's bottom right corner (pic_1 - red dot) it gets back to normal and doesn't even flickering at all (pic_2).
Howerver as soon as the display goes off because of the turn off time, too close to the face when making a call or just switch it off with the power botton, the problem reaccures.
I am very sure it is hardware related, because on the screenshots there is nothing like that and it is persist in the boot sequence. In my opinion this is some kind of faulty connection, I have already take the phone apart to catch any loose connector, but nothing changed after that.
I feel like I have to buy a new screen, but I hope I can repair it somehow, because it can works very well after my acupuncture therapy.
I have bought the phone second-hand, and I know there was a screen replacement, so its not the original one.

Could also be any gaps or something that can cause the lines(display gets pressure from wrong installation).
2 options basically. Loose connector or faulty LCD.
I don't think it's software related.
If you can give it back, then you should. If not, then you can either try to fix it by yourself by replacing the LCD assembly (with the touch digitiser).

Yes, You were right, as I thought too. The reason behind the problem was the LCD.
I have replaced it and now it works like a charm.

Poco m3 touchscreen failure

I just got my poco m3 from Aliexpress and noticed that frequently the touch fail on the sides of the screen. Like when I hit the back arrow on the top left or the "?123" button in the gboard. It feels laggy and if i'm typping fast then hit the ?123 button usually dont recognize the touch and I have to hit 2 or 3 times. Can it be the glass film that's reducing the touchscreen sensibility ? I'm afraid of remove it and have to return the phone later without the glass.
Might be faulty or just lagging. The first few version of the rom was super slow
Mine doesn't have this problem, and I am using a glass screen protector.
Edit: I am using Google Zhuyin Input, I just tried to type really fast in it, and pressed "?123" after typing fast, it only went to the numpad when I pressed it the second time, so I think this should be normal. But the back arrow on the top left corner always works on my phone, I tested this with Google Play.
I noticed that when i'm typing with the phone on horizontal this doesn't happen, its weird. I think some parts of the screen are not working well. I'm gonna have to return the phone.

Guys, I think this has to do with a setting "Prevent accidental touch on the edges" or similar i saw earlier but now I can not find it anymore in the Settings app
My POCO M3 also has this issue, and I notice there are two area (red box in picture below) exist this problem.
If you press "q", "a", then press "?123" in fast speed, the "?123" button will not respond.
If you press "p", "l", then press "↲" in fast speed, the "↲" button will not respond either.

Apparently its a common hardware issue in the screen. If I type with the phone in horizontal the issue doesn't occurs. I just got used to it, didn't want to replace the phone cus it takes a long time to the phone to get at China and return to me cus the post service in my contry is horrible.

yes, i think this is a common problem among not poco but whole xiaomi devices as per this thread

It's interesting that so few people report about this issue. I gave the phone to my gf and she didn't realize any problems, although the phone had shown the same issue.
Either most people simply don't recognize it as a problem, think they are hitting the wrong button, or the problem is a rare issue on certain phones.
I took a video showing the issue on my Poco M3. I have contacted the support and send them the video, too, but only got the standard reply (update software, use safe mode, blahblah).
Any update can solve this problem? Please brother tell me. i am also suffering this problem
I also have the same problem, unfortunately I broke the screen so the service center will probably reject my case
