Samsung S8 green screen problem - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello, yesterday my phone started to show some green color on the screen, it started by once, I didn't drop it or something. Few seconds it's working good, but then it returns to all green or all mixed. And when i lock my phone, it starts to become green, even when it's locked?? Tried going to safe mode, soft and master reset, nothing is working. Any ideas? Thank u guys!

Open a ticket with Samsung and send it in for a screen replacement. if there is no water damage or physical damage they will fix it for free under warranty.

I have this green issue with flickering lines...
Warranty expired...

Are any of ypu rooted s8 u model. This is a byproduct of the combination bootloader used for rooting

Green Screen of Death
Very sorry to hear about it
While my S8 was messed up, my sisters s7 Edge had the exact same problem...

Now slowly, the green screen would start to flicker at times and lo one day, it would turn into a pale green light. You wont be able to do anything with the phone.
My IMMEDIATE ADVICE ...
TAKE a COMPLETE BACKUP of your data as soon as you read this message.
Secondly
Try turning the Blue Light filter off, Change the saturation of the phone and see if you are still seeing the green shade,
Send this device to service center.
EDIT :- Just now noticed the OP's date is almost a year old.

I got a same issue too today ****sung!

Is there a fix ? i dont wanna pay 250$ to replace the screen.it works well in full brightness

i got the same green screen on galaxy s8+ today after using it for 2 years i had custom kernel with hari rom, the phone is usable in full brightness, it has green overlay with horizontal line flickering over it i think this a motherboard issue, have your issue resolved ? what you did? i am thinking to change board and see

I have fixed my phone twice with this problem. You need to heat up the screen. Full brightness then record video for an hour. You should see the greenness recede. If there are green lines st the bottom which don't disappear, use a hairdryer on the screen. You will see the green vanish in 30seconds. When the phone cools, it will come back. You need to keep regularly reheating your screen to get rid of it, like every 20 minutes for a day or, 2. Eventually it will clear up. It's a pixel what issue. Heating the screen repeatedly restores functionality, after least in my case.

It is correct that it works in full brightness. Turn off the adaptive brightness and voila you can continue to work with full brightness. However, you can also reduce your
pixel to full HD from QHD to continue in this mode. I have been working on this for last few days else the ****sung care only want's to replace the screen combo .
Will try the heating methodology. I have doubts about battery also and planning to change and see.

Same issue just popped up today for me. Rooted nougat ROM with safestrap. It's definitely not the screen itself, and it's behavior is Sunday strange, it'll show up on webpages or other screens that are mostly white, but not on the dark mode applications.
so it's green on this thread and it gets less green when I open Chrome's settings on the top right.
Reboot fixes it. Until it comes back again.

Started to face this green tint issue on my S8 recently, the phone worked well for the past two years until suddenly one day this green **** happened. Never dropped the phone and never rooted it. For now rebooting the phone solves the issue, until it comes back. Till now it happened 5-6 times in a week. Rebooting fixes it and then it runs normally for sometime (or somedays) then it happens again.
Any solution?

Apparently it is a software problem, something about some screens batch that does not received well those new patches. i took my s8 g950fd at a Samsung authorized store and is was what they told me, but they don't fix it for free if it is not on warranty even though it is a Samsung software problem. I have tried to root and change roms, but it seems my cellphone does not accept root or new roms. if some one know how to help me id be grateful.

my screen has green after unlock bootloader. i didn´t anything, so im tired :/

Sounds like a firmware bug* on at least some of these. Samsung tech support sucks elephant balls bad. Obviously Samsung is well aware of this issue by now.
*during a production run Samsung will substitute smaller chipsets and components as needed. This can cause erratic firmware/update behavior as the substituted components don't have the correct values and/or code. If so you're in a fubar because Samsung is unlikely to supply the needed patch at this late date.
You can try flashing the original firmware, be wary of updates. It could be a system apk update as well.
It could also be a hardware failure on a whole batch(es) of these phones.

started having this problem suddenly now, didn't drop it, didn't do any updates. wow!

[Q] brand new i9505g shutting down by itself and freezing

Hi all,
Just purchased a brand new Galaxy S4 Google Edition directly form Google's play store. Everything seemed perfect, but after a couple of hours of usage the phone simply rebooted itself, and after passing the startup google logo, it froze with a weird symbol in the middle and blue/red strikes on the screen. The blue led indicator remains on and the screen remains frozen. Shutting the phone on and off takes me back tyo the same issue. The only solution is a battery pull which makes it work perfectly well for a couple of hours until I get the same error back.
I did a complete factory reset, including data and cache wipe, and got the same error. It seems to happen randomly, with both the phone in
standby mode and while using it. It also happened with sim and without a sim card installed while connected only to a WI-FI network. About two or three times during the day.
As it is a brand new phone, I do not want to install any new firmware as I wouldn't like to void my warranty. I still don't want to believe this brand new phone is defective though.
As an additional note, the phone's temperature and performance seems perfectly fine. When working the phone's performance and condition seems perfectly fine with no other associated issues.
Anyone heard or experienced something similar?
Thanks,
Alberto

6P Sudden Screen Failure

So i was scrolling through my facebook feed today and suddenly the left vertical half of the display started to flicker bright white. I was like #WTF is this? The right half went dark while the left was blinking randomly (once every 10 or 30 sec).
Reboot did not help; Called Google and told them about the issue.
I was told that this was the first of its kind issue reported and this needs to be investigated. :eek . As i was about to end the call the agent told me the replacement request is approved. :highfive:
This is my second 6P (first one had network connectivity issues) and I hope the third one doesn't give me any problems. This makes me doubt the Huawei build and hardware quality seriously, since many people have reported defective units being received.
These are the pictures of my defective device (32GB Aluminium):

Yeah. But we'll never know.
I just had the exact same problem right now. Any advice before I try to get a replacement?
A week after I bought mine a thin green line showed up on left edge. It got more noticeable with different colors. I sent it in and they fixed and sent it back....been fine ever since.

Did you send it back to Google or Huawei?
This also happened to me. It was a colored line vertical on the left side. It then changed to a very bright white line. I got the screen replaced out of pocket.

For the people with the broken displays, try this to recovery some data if you need it in the meantime of repair, or if you're replacing the device out of pocket etc.
1. Turn off your device
2. Boot to bootloader (hold Power + Volume Down), and wait a bit to be sure you're in the bootloader
2a. Flash twrp if you don't already have twrp
3. Scroll down to recovery - Two volume down clicks if nothing is visible
4. Hit the power button
5. Use the USB to USB C adapter that came with your phone, one side into your computer and one into your phone
6. Pull files FROM your phone to your computer if you have any important files
As for the stock firmware attempt after backing up important stuff
Steps 1-2 from above
3. Download the stock firmware of your choice
4. Flash stock, your choice to wipe userdata or not, instructions in the Sticky Thread
5. Press the power button on the bootloader after the device is done with the process from the fastboot side of things.

HELP / Screen burn (HTC U-ULTRA)

Hello guys. I want to talk with you about screen burn on u-ultra.
Last month I realized this problem on the sides of the screen. It appears usually after 15 secons of using my phone screen ( especially when I have more white color on the screen). It took a little space on screen at the begining, but now its just getting worse , like 2cm from each sides of the screen. It appears like red (sometimes green ) color. And I only can see it when I have something on gray color on screen.
So, here is my questions, do you have screen burns too ? Most importantly, how can I fix it( Its getting worse) ? Does HTC universal guarantee includes to fix this ?
If you can help me please write it down , I will be so glad
Thank you

It's not burn-in, burn-in is permanent while this is temporary, this is first mobile i have seen facing issue like this, Nothing can be done, it's hardware related, Settings the color temperature to cold used it fix this while on nougat, but not on Oreo, some custom kernel with K-Cal support will definitely help but i don't think that'll happen.
I have same porblem on my Htc U ultra (indiea verseion).. Its bug me alot.. I will ask for screen repairment. Is that will solve my problem or the new screen will ghosting again?
I also notice that is my screen able to scrach even its gorilla glass 5... I see some microscraches on the screen i dont how they born.. I always take care about my phone and screen.

Gorilla Glass 5 still need protect like older version (sand, keys,... will scratch it like usual)
so how can fix this ??? i see the homescreen icons in transprant when screen dim by black shadow....like pulldown notification bar or power menu
I noticed the appearance of this spot on the screen Mobily .. And then emerged the problem of the screen .. What is This spot? .. No exposure to any pressure on the screen or any damage .. Is it possible to be moisture?
And what to do ? Mobily put the rice and did not succeed .. Is there a solution?

U Ultra has many display problems
1. Hot Spot or light leakage. Light visible on the side of the display especially on black patterns.
2. Image sticking. When you keep for long time same image on the display, after you change to different image, shadow of previous image is still visible. This image sticking is not permanent damage and will disappear after you keep the display On with a white image.
3. Image burning. This is a permanent damage visible on almost all images. Can have multiple root cause, but most of the cases the problem is generated by to much heat from not properly designed components inside the phone.
Conclusion:
You have to ask for a product replacement because of design and execution flaws.
Just FYI this is not a universal problem, I've had no issues with my device at all.

Home button and screen problem

Today i encountered a big problem with my Mi A1. After i unlocked the phone in the morning, the home button (the back and recent buttons work) and right side of the screen stopped working completely. I tried to restart the phone many times and look up the issue on google but nothing worked.
Than i tried turning on the "Pointer location" option in dev options, and it showed me, that a perfect portion of right side of the screen doesn't work, when i was sliding my finger around the right side, obviously not in such a perfect line (as seen on the screenshot).
I would like to know, if it's related to me updating to a new security patch the day before, some hardware issue or something else.
I would apreciate any help.

Thank you for your response
I didn't really change anything on the phone, when the problem appeared. Once i just unlocked it and the screen side with the home button stopped working.
I'm running completely stock android 8.1.0 with an October 5th security patch. I have updated on that security patch the night before, but i don't really think that this could be the problem... or could it be? I have a crack in my screen too, but it wasn't problem for a long time, since i dropped it months ago and i was living with it completely fine with no problems at all. The only thing i have changed on the phone is just a launcher - Nova.
And even more weird is that it sometimes works. For example last night it started working again, everything was fine and than in the middle of today it stopped working, again. I just locked the phone with the problem gone, unlocked it 5 minutes later and boom... it was back there. I don't understand this at all. Could this be due to some bad hardware connection, like wrongly connected cable etc.?

Well i think it's the crack on your screen that mess the touchscreen.
If a factory reset doesn't solve it then it's hardware?
You can have a fully cracked screen and phone will still be usable. And you can have a single crack but badly placed and screen is f***ed up
Try to repair it by yourself or by a professional.
Broken Screen rarely pass with the warranty...
I'm sorry bro.
Still try to factory reset the phone, just in case

Okay, I'll try to reset the phone, but i don't really think it could be the crack, because it happend months ago and worked fine.
Is there any other way, than a factory reset and hardware repair maybe? Because i don't really wanna pay 1/3 of the phone price just for a new screen that doesn't really affect anything. It's just a little crack on the top half of the phone, that doesn't affect the digitizer. (Or it didn't affect it for months)
Alltho thanks for your help. I'll try the factory reset and if it will work, i'll add a new comment.

SCREEN REPLACEMENT PROBLEM

hi there, I just replaced my screen for the umpteenth time but, on this occasion, it hasn't "taken". The old screen is totally obliterated, smashed display, but it still takes power and behaves as it should (lights up on disconnection of usb charger, for example). The new screen? Not so much. It does actually work, it shows the picture fine, but it only shows it for a fraction of a second then blinks off. When I press the power button again it does nothing, as it thinks I'm turning the phone off, then when I press it again the screen comes back on for a half a second or so and same issue. Have checked all connections, all fine, have swapped in the old screen to confirm it behaves as it should, all fine.
I'm wondering, could this be some kind of gpu/driver issue? Or has anyone experienced this before with a replacement screen and it's just a "dud"? Absolute downer as I've been waiting for it for a month or so and literally can't afford to buy another one at the moment, really bad year

I had a similar problem due to display incompatibility.
I have the phone marked FHD-D on the cable and the new display was FHD-A.
Or, the new display is not original...

I have the phone marked FHD-D on the cable and the new display was FHD-A.
Or, the new display is not original...

Thanks for your reply and yeah, I'm figuring this is what is happening. However, the cable/screen are all one piece and were bought together, so is it possible they'd mismatch the cable to the screen themselves? idk, anyway, I've opened a dispute and have now been told that I'm stupid and that I have installed the screen incorrectly and not connected the battery (absolute gibberish).
I made a couple of videos for them, idk, have a look and see what you reckon but, indeed, to me this looks like straight up incompatibility as the screen isn't being driven properly by the phone (and, as you can see, the old busted screen behaves correctly)
Video of old/broken screen showing correct power response and on/off behaviour:

Here is the video of"new" screen which is clearly not correctly supported

Well hopefully I can get a refund for the part and get another. Can't even afford to order another at the moment until I get the refund :/ Lost my business last year due to covid and don't have access to state benefits or the like, so have just been trying to keep the head above water for the last year and a bit, so believe it or not something like this is a big expenditure for me these days :/

The original screen is "Boe" (see screenshot), this can be verified via the "Device Info HW" application.
Too bad the phone won't start and it can't be verified...

Yeah, it's a pain, I guess the display is just not going to work and I'll have to somehow get another - hopefully I can get the refund okay as those videos show it clearly doesn't work! The phone does actually start up, everything is going on fine aside from the screen. As I have to press on/off several times to get the screen to flicker, I don't have time to put in the unlock code and get into any menus, and then when it goes off I'm back to jockeying the button until it lights up again, at which point of course it's returning from a standby state so it's going back to the code input. BAH!
hello how are you 1 month ago I bought the second-hand mate 10 lite with the crashed but functional screen and I decided to buy a screen since the one I brought stopped working the touch screen everything was fine in the installation but the same thing happened to me as you understand normal but the screen does not work when the device is finished charging and putting the pattern turns on the screen and also that when I make a gesture it does not work I have to press a little hard and I realized that the screen came out a slight defect and I cannot request a refund since remove the security seals when installing it in your case if it came out with a major manufacturing defect
Note 2020 just look at the date of your post and still comment hehe greetings from Mexico
