(US) Huawei Mate SE - No Oreo update option on phone - Honor 7X Guides, News, & Discussion

I just recently purchased 3 of these phones and 2/3 had Oreo already ready to be setup. The 3rd however only had Android 7.0 on it.
I checked under settings for a System Update option, but couldn't find anywhere on that phone a spot to check for system updates. It did however say that it was up-to-date on system patches (Jan 2018).
Huawei support recommended that we factory restore the phone; which we did but still no option to check for system updates, etc.
Any idea on how I can get this phone to update?

So you went to settings and system updates? And selected check for updates? And it shows system is up to date message?

Was phone used, or "refurbished" cause it sounds like it has been wiped out on the /data files. If there is no update app.
It was supposed to be in /data/hw_init folder somewhere.

No, no option to check for updates. What can I do to get that folder that you mentioned? Is there an 8.0 image I can download to factory restore from that?

Can confirm. Having the same issue. The system update app is also missing. Tried installing an extracted apk from another phone that was already on oreo but it failed. HiSuite can't find any updates either.
More info: Unlocked bootloader+twrp and what I thought was a "stock" rom. Any ideas?

Sorry for the delay, I didn't notice your question.
Here is guide to install update manually.

Oreo update and DC Unlocker
I have an Honor 7X and it has caused me incredible amount of stress and waste of time trying to get Oreo. I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT.
I had been trying to use the software updater to check for Oreo for months and it always said I had the latest software - which isn't true. I also used Hi Suite to no avail. I just registered my phone with Huawei and it updated. I am not sure if your third phone is unregistered, but make an account with them and check. I wasted so much time, bricked my phone, paid for DC Unlocker, tried to flash Oreo stock etc... finally I have it the legitimate way.
Now, the next thing I would like to do is install an Oreo custom rom - but I am not paying more money to DC Unlocker. If anyone wants me account details for the DC Unlock to recover their bricked phone, I have 2 days left and will provide info.

(re) locking boot loader?

Please bear with me as this may be a biblical post
Around 3 weeks ago I bought a nice shiney new Huawei P9 Lite from CPW in the UK. Out of the box the phone was listed as VNS-L31C432B131 with EMUI 4.0 . The first thing I did was read all the various bits and bats on different threads about updating and custom roms. Then I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and also rooted my phone.
I was then reading about one version of nougart so installed Meticulus TWRP in preperation to install that rom, however due to working 14 hrs a day I didnt get chance to do it being so tired.
A little while later I saw a thread on updating to B160 which would then give me the HiCare update to B370 through OS early update.
So the other day I fired up Firmware Finder and pushed the update ( via FF proxy ) to the official update app and moved from B131 to B160 with out any issue. During the " upgrade " I saw no errors or warning messages and nothing exploded so I thought all was good.
The next evening I went into HiCare and saw I could update from B160 to B370, so I did and again everything seemed to go fine. Although at the end I had no root so my Viper4Android mod wouldnt work. No biggy I though....Ill just root it again and go from there.
I then noticed I was on build version : NRD90M test-keys and I had some missing apps ie themes etc

Also on my app drawer the settings Icon has a red 1 on it.
Most of my phone seems to work ok but as I am missing various apps and some functions are not working I have tried to fix it. I downloaded update_data_full_VNS-L31_hw_eu.zip but I can't flash it as I have lost TWRP.
If I boot with all three buttons held I get the standard software installation failed screen, even though I have placed the above file into the root of my phone, in to a folder called " dload " and into a separate " dload " folder on my external SD card.
If I press Vol up and power, I can get my standard recovery screen with the three opions reboot, wipe data/factory reset or wipe data partition
Pressing Vol down and power achieves nothing.
No matter what I do I cant get into TWRP to try and flash the above update file to get all my apps and functionality back.
I have even tried to go back into Firmware Finder to see if there is an update package available for me but I can't get that to work either as I get a cant reach the server error.
When I try to set up the proxy it is asking me to sign into my internet connection(??)
It seems I have somehow ballsed things up in an epic way while still keeping a semi working phone. So my only option is to take the phone back to CPW and exchange it for a new phone ( hopefully already on nougart or at least B160 ) however while ever I get the warning message about my device being locked I doubt they will take it back.....
So is there a way to be able to lock the bootloader again so I can take it back?
Or could someone please help me get out of NRD90M test-keys and get everything working again with root so I can install Viper4Android again.
You should've tried searching. You can rollback to MM B160 using official Huawei guide. Make sure your update package has 3GB size, as it's the complete MM with all the apps. Then you'll be able to update to B370 through firmware finder.
you need to plugin your cable in some cases .. e.g. to enter fastboot mode.
I have tried to relock the bootloader with ADB etc however I get remote access denied errors.

Anyone installed B352 update successfully?

I'm using a MediaPad M3 (Wifi only) bought from amazon.com (model: BTV-W09C128) and I discovered by chance, through firmware finder, that there's an update that ends with B352 (my current firmware ends with B351) and I wished I can download this update because it has lots of nice optimizations with battery and touch sensitivity...etc but trying to do so was not successful because it says that "my connection is unstable...blah" and I'm also afraid of the fact that this update is not approved by Huawei (!) with my IMEI sent.
My question is: Why Firmware finder shows this update even though it's not approved yet by Huawei? and Does anyone had any success with downloading this update without messing up his tablet?
P.S. I'm not living in the US so if I bricked my tablet, I won't have any chance of fixing because it's not sold officially in my country, so your advices are much appreciated.
P.S. Attached is a screenshot of the changelog of this update.

Yes, like a lot of folks I got the 352 update yesterday OTA. I had previously updated to 351 (Android 7/EMUI 5) from the stock version via FF last month.

Thanks for the prompt reply however I'm stuck with the boring message "unstable network, trying to connect" when trying to download using the proxy method. Is there any alternative way of applying this update? otherwise, how to circumvent this fake message (as my network is indeed stable)
Mine worked fine. 352 Mb download in 5 minutes, 5 more to update. Working very well, improved battery life.

Could you please share with me your update method? trying to download through firmware finder as a proxy wasn't successful because it said "my connection is unstable...blah". When I stopped the proxy and removed the proxy settings from my wifi connection, I found out that the download begins nomrally but at the end, a verification happens to that update which ended up being deleted because it is not authorized to install (I don't know why!).
I'll appreciate if anyone knows a download link to that update with instructions because I have an SDCard installed to use for this purpose.
It won't be of much help, as I opened the tablet's cover and it was already requesting the update. I just accepted it.
But you can try to force an update search on tablet's config.

I never got any update from the system updater without the help of firmware finder which helped me go from Android M to Android N with EMUI 5. After that, it's not able to help anymore!
Do you have your huawei account registered on the device? (I tend to beleive that a Huawei account may help in getting the updates directly from Huawei through the updater without the need for buggy 3rd party apps)
Nope, just google account. From moment one it already askes for update - M to N - and the new one from a couple of days ago.
I see that this update is available using the firmware finder app. Can somebody tell me the best way to update on a rooted tablet?

Not sure since I didn't encounter any problem upgrading to 351 using the proxy method and FF. When I was researching methods at the time, some other folks had upgraded to 351 another way - involved using an SD card as I recall. You could look around for that or continue to see if you can figure out what the issue is with your setup (I'm assuming it's not FF since that worked for me). Did you try using HiSuite to update? That may work as well now since they're pushing the latest update OTA. But the OTA push seems to be country by country and since I'm in the US and you're not your experience may differ. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck.
I'm in the US. Downloaded the OTA but it wouldn't install, since I've got TWRP installed as my recovery.
I used Firmware Finder to download the full update (two .zip files). These do flash with no problem; unfortunately, they reinstalled stock recovery and locked my bootloader. So I had to unlock and then restore the device from backup (along with all the email account setup, etc. which doesn't get restored from backup).
Sounds like those of us who are rooted need to wait until somebody creates an image that can be flashed with TWRP without wiping everything out. Were you able to use the original code to unlock your bootloader again?

Love the tablet but its weird, this is my second one after bricking the first, immediately unlocked, twrp installed rooted then enabled 5g which was harder then the first tab I had. The other weird thing is on the first tablet I had to change wifi settings for firmware finder to download with the new one no setting change just clicked download and it did.
Anyway the question is just to verify, so you check both zip files on ota update? I only clicked usa full update and in recovery it failed at 5%, any ideas?

Oreo for LG H870DS TWN halted?

For some reason I was about to update my H870DS TWN, and the download stopped midway and now says I'm on latest version (Nougat), doesn't find Oreo anymore. Does anybody know if the oreo update was halted for some reason, maybe they found it has issues or users reported problems?

If you have bugs you may need to downgrade, so maybe it's better to stay on 7.0. Maybe I'm lucky I didn't upgrade.

Thank you very much! Finally could update it, here's how to do it:
HOW TO UPDATE LG G6 H870DS TWN FROM ANDROID 7 TO ANDROID 8.0 OREO
1) Download the KDZ file:
https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/15229/H870DS20a_00_OPEN_TW_DS_OP_0518.kdz
2) Download LGUP software for Windows:
Download LGUP_Install_Ver_1_14_3.msi file.
3) Download and extract LGUP_common.zip
Extract the two files inside, specially LGUP_common.dll to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common (create it if doesn't exist).
4) Power off the LG G6.
5) Then press UP volume, and while keeping it pressed connect the G6 to the computer over USB. The LG G6 should enter in Download (Flash) mode and display "Firmware Update" with an USB logo inside two arrows, plus display the COM port (in my case COM 8).
If the device is not recognize properly you may need to install LG drivers as well, they are available on previous links.
6) Open LGUP and choose UPGRADE and select the KDZ file on the 3 dots. Then hit start and don't disconnect the phone and make sure your computer does not shutdown.

7) Now the phone will restart and start the upgrade process of all the apps. Everything you had on your phone will be kept, installed apps, pictures, desktop configuration with folders and shortcuts, and almost all apps. Maybe some app may need re-authenticating (like FolderSync) or some widget to be re-configured (like Google Keep or calendar widgets) but for the rest of it it will be kept exactly the same, you will only notice that you have upgraded because of the newer rounded icons and the newer notification style.

Download and Install Android 8.0 Oreo on LG G6
For the few hours which I've been testing it so great so good.
I've lost patience now, too and flashed TWN FW manually (the clean way with factory reset before and after oreo upgrade) with the guide above.
First bug found so far: 5Ghz WLAN appeared in the initial setup but soon after didn't get discovered anymore. Now I hope that resetting the network settings will fix the issue.
Apart from that, the first impression is flawless and smooth. I've been used to oreo on my Xperia XZ (for months already!), though.

I did not perform a factory reset, but same issue here. 5GHz networks don't appear after the Oreo update. I guess the update was withdrawn for a reason, and now I can see a glimpse of it. Wish I never had updated, I can't see anymore 5GHz networks.
I can't demand an update from LG because I'm outside asia so no warranty, but please if anyone is, demand them to upgrade to Oreo 8.1 please.

Good news: Network Settings Reset didn't do the trick but I've found a fix (long-term functionality not yet approved):
1) Go to phone and dial *#546368#*870# to enter the hidden menu
2) Go to field test > wifi test > OTA
In my case it was disabled and enabling solved the problem! (actually I don't even have a clue what this setting is exactly for, found out through trial and error)
3) Then went one step back, entered FTM test, set 5GHz, started and boom, "start successful"! (before it had failed) :good:
4) Finally I went back to regular WiFi-Menu, was switched off so had to turn it back on, no networks, off an on again, 5Ghz was back and still is after several reboots + resetting network settings once again to double check.
Hope that works for others as well! :fingers-crossed:

The unlocked version is at 29.105-25-13. Do you know where we can download the firmware besides OTA?
Possibly https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/ht117028
I actually used that to fix my vzw Moto z4. Was stuck in a bootloop. Verizon tech support was going to send me a new phone. But the Lenovo tool allowed me to fix it. Reflash the entire firmware bootloader and all partitions. Try running the tool and try to download software. May or may not work for you

I downloaded software using the Lenovo Moto tool. I wanted to keep track of the software versions, in case I need to try to revert back for any reason. The software that was downloaded for me was:
"FOLES_PPF29.105_44_subsidy_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_CFC_xml.zip"
Is this this same version that others received? or what versions do you guys have?
I am still on on PPF29.105-25 (Android security patch level April 1, 2019).
I have the prompt for a pending OTA download/install to PPF29.105-25-13, Android security patch level July 1, 2019.
Judging from the file name of my downloaded image, is there another OTA to "PPF29.105-44"? or is the file name not coinciding with the actual software version (i.e. no such thing as "-44")?

Judging from the file name of my downloaded image, is there another OTA to "PPF29.105-44"? or is the file name not coinciding with the actual software version (i.e. no such thing as "-44")?

@ahalol did you try the LMSA tool?, what is the name of the file for the firmware that it let you download?
Also, since I now, at the very least, have the unknown image from the tool (file name FOLES_PPF29.105_44), and what I believe is stock image (file name FOLES_PPF29.105-25) from getdroidtips.com webpage https://www.getdroidtips.com/motoro...e-and-firmware-collections-back-to-stock-rom/
to revert to, if necessary.....I installed the PPF29.105-25-13 OTA.
Just now I also received notification that another OTA is available. See screenshot below. I will do a little research as to what it is before I install..

It is asking me to download FOLES_PPF29.105_44. I guess I will go with this one. My system is rooted and the /system partition was modified (host file). I will manually sideload it.

Ok, cool. Let me know after install what Build Number that download corresponds with.
I am not rooted (yet) as I only absolutely care about native hotspot, so I will continue accepting OTAs until the Native hotspot is ever broken.

It doesn't want me to install. Most likely due to my modification on the Host file. I think I will not update and flash all new when Q comes out.
New OTA available for unlocked Z4
New OTA, software PPFS29.105-25-13-2, provides August 1, 2019 security patch (screenshot below).
Have not noticed any changes. Here is link to Maintenance Release Notes for this software update:
https://support.motorola.com/us/en/solution/MS142802
Strange... I'm with unlocked Z4, too, but with June patch it says it already has current updates...

Try rebooting your phone, then check for update.....or check for update at diff times of the day (i.e. after 9pm or if possible around 3-4am)...with a combination of also rebooting and checking again, if no update upon initial try.
I have an unlocked z4 and it also says I'm up to date on June 2019. When I used the LMSA it downloads the -44 file but when it flashes it and fastboots nothing happens. To those of you who are getting updates on the unlocked Z4, which carrier are you using it on? Mine is using a roaming SIM and not a US carrier but even when I swapped out it still didn't work.

I have unlocked version(XT1980-3) on US verizon as carrier.
However, not entirely sure if that matters. I had gotten notification of the previous update (PPF29.105-25-13, June 1st security patch) connected to wifi, before I had ever inserted a SIM into the phone.
Now def on Aug 1st security patch (see screenshot).
New OTA update came through today. Looks to be just the Sept 1 security patch.
Unlocked Z4 on vzw network.
The Amazon version used in Europe is on August patch. When I set it up a initially here, I did get a few updates. Was curious if there will be a difference compared to retail. Seems there is.
Mine is also 105-71
Rooted
Only having bootloader unlocked and running bone stock XT1980-3, while randomly checking for updates, I started getting the message "System Integrity Compromised" and indication that I was not eligible for updates and need to contact customer service.
I ended up patching boot.img with magisk method, and now SafetyNet check passes and a check for update is back to saying "Your device is up to date" (I never even checked anything off under the magisk hide feature, and root checker says I'm rooted).
Best of all, it looks like there is a method for continuing to accept OTAs while retaining root using magisk.
New OTA for unlocked Z4... Oct 1 Security patch:
PPF29.105-75
Stock Rom/Boot (no TWRP), unlocked BL, rooted with Magisk.
Followed instructions for taking OTA while retaining root with Magisk. No issues. Flawless.
Sooo..... I have XT1980-3 with bootloader unlocked purchased directly from Motorola and using T-Mobile. Original Stock, did not flash any other stock FW on top. I was also getting the warnings that I was not able to install a system update because my device was not secure because I unlocked the bootloader........then all of the sudden out of the blue I was able to download and install the update today without doing anything. And now I have the same October Security update that we were probably suppose to get two months ago. LOL! Not complaining I guess, it's just weird.
Hopefully one day we will get some TWRP and Custom Rom love. Sending Positive Energy For This ?

Update not listed in software - "n910cxxu2dvh2"

Recently I reinstalled the system and I did not have time to install SU and an update popped out. Unfortunately, I can't download this version anywhere, either there is a problem or this version does not exist. Can anyone help me with this? The phone is SM-N910C / XEO.

How can you download 1 and 4 files soft for this?
@Tomasz Dulak did you try with old samfirm version?
That doesn't work any longer as Samsung changed its server addresses afaik.
Try SamFirm_Reborn_0.3.6.3.
Still the same :/

May work when you switch to manual and fill the fields below with entries needed.
Had that on a VZW phone as well.
But afaik that will only work if it's the latest stock and for me it seems there's a later one:
XEO-N910CXXS2DRI2-20181204144801.
I also fail to enter manually.
Well, mine isn't there at all, and it's dated August 12, 2022, looking at the kernel version after the update. It's just that someone posted an update after 4 years.
The last one available for today is: "N910CXXS2DRI2", but when you install it, you get the update to "N910CXXS2DVH2".
@Tomasz Dulak How's the progress? Did you flash it with DRI2, or stays with DVH2?
I haven't installed N910CXXU2DVH2 patch yet.
I'm trying to add a Samsung account and receive an error like:
Code:
403

Can anyone log into Samsung account without this fix?
@ze7zez
I have N910H here and flashed system.img, boot.img, and csc_sec.zip from XEO DRI2 N910C firmware. There's no problem in adding Samsung account.
The problem that I'm facing is that, I couldn't get the DVH2 OTA update, since it will throws me the message of "The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way..."
It may be fixed if I also flash the bootloader from N910C or might also tweak it, but that's such a painful thing to recover if it went brick, I don't want to risk it yet.

Thanks for the information.
I will insert the SIM card and check again.
I wouldn't risk flashing the bootloader from the N910C to the N910H. Are you sure the system will boot?
@ze7zez
No I'm not sure, I've done a hex compare and they are different. There are 90 out of 1,034,240 bytes of param.bin and 9487 out of 1,632,800 bytes of sboot.bin that is different from N910H bootloader.
That would be tedious trying to decode what makes it differs and thus tweak it..
In the end, I'm stuck with DRI2 firmware. I'd like to try DVH2, but there's no software available that I know at the moment that is able to download it.
Just ask help here again if you need help on your Samsung account.

Too bad your post came way too late as I already returned the devices mentioned. Those devices were running Android 7.0.

I had this same issue on a Tab S I bought off Ebay and it was luckily solved by downgrading to 5.0.2 Lollipop.
