Anyone installed B352 update successfully? - Huawei Mediapad M3 Questions & Answers

I'm using a MediaPad M3 (Wifi only) bought from amazon.com (model: BTV-W09C128) and I discovered by chance, through firmware finder, that there's an update that ends with B352 (my current firmware ends with B351) and I wished I can download this update because it has lots of nice optimizations with battery and touch sensitivity...etc but trying to do so was not successful because it says that "my connection is unstable...blah" and I'm also afraid of the fact that this update is not approved by Huawei (!) with my IMEI sent.
My question is: Why Firmware finder shows this update even though it's not approved yet by Huawei? and Does anyone had any success with downloading this update without messing up his tablet?
P.S. I'm not living in the US so if I bricked my tablet, I won't have any chance of fixing because it's not sold officially in my country, so your advices are much appreciated.
P.S. Attached is a screenshot of the changelog of this update.

Yes, like a lot of folks I got the 352 update yesterday OTA. I had previously updated to 351 (Android 7/EMUI 5) from the stock version via FF last month.

Thanks for the prompt reply however I'm stuck with the boring message "unstable network, trying to connect" when trying to download using the proxy method. Is there any alternative way of applying this update? otherwise, how to circumvent this fake message (as my network is indeed stable)

Mine worked fine. 352 Mb download in 5 minutes, 5 more to update. Working very well, improved battery life.

Could you please share with me your update method? trying to download through firmware finder as a proxy wasn't successful because it said "my connection is unstable...blah". When I stopped the proxy and removed the proxy settings from my wifi connection, I found out that the download begins nomrally but at the end, a verification happens to that update which ended up being deleted because it is not authorized to install (I don't know why!).
I'll appreciate if anyone knows a download link to that update with instructions because I have an SDCard installed to use for this purpose.

It won't be of much help, as I opened the tablet's cover and it was already requesting the update. I just accepted it.
But you can try to force an update search on tablet's config.

I never got any update from the system updater without the help of firmware finder which helped me go from Android M to Android N with EMUI 5. After that, it's not able to help anymore!
Do you have your huawei account registered on the device? (I tend to beleive that a Huawei account may help in getting the updates directly from Huawei through the updater without the need for buggy 3rd party apps)

Nope, just google account. From moment one it already askes for update - M to N - and the new one from a couple of days ago.

I see that this update is available using the firmware finder app. Can somebody tell me the best way to update on a rooted tablet?

Not sure since I didn't encounter any problem upgrading to 351 using the proxy method and FF. When I was researching methods at the time, some other folks had upgraded to 351 another way - involved using an SD card as I recall. You could look around for that or continue to see if you can figure out what the issue is with your setup (I'm assuming it's not FF since that worked for me). Did you try using HiSuite to update? That may work as well now since they're pushing the latest update OTA. But the OTA push seems to be country by country and since I'm in the US and you're not your experience may differ. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Good luck.

I'm in the US. Downloaded the OTA but it wouldn't install, since I've got TWRP installed as my recovery.
I used Firmware Finder to download the full update (two .zip files). These do flash with no problem; unfortunately, they reinstalled stock recovery and locked my bootloader. So I had to unlock and then restore the device from backup (along with all the email account setup, etc. which doesn't get restored from backup).

Sounds like those of us who are rooted need to wait until somebody creates an image that can be flashed with TWRP without wiping everything out. Were you able to use the original code to unlock your bootloader again?

Yes, fortunately the same bootloader unlock code worked again.

Love the tablet but its weird, this is my second one after bricking the first, immediately unlocked, twrp installed rooted then enabled 5g which was harder then the first tab I had. The other weird thing is on the first tablet I had to change wifi settings for firmware finder to download with the new one no setting change just clicked download and it did.
Anyway the question is just to verify, so you check both zip files on ota update? I only clicked usa full update and in recovery it failed at 5%, any ideas?

No Root No Bootloader, factory setup. It worked without any issues, No need to root at the moment. I'm using DNS66 to block most of the ads.

BTW Bluetooth works fine...

Needing help with updating VNS-L31

I have created this fresh thread so, hopefully if the problem can be solved, others might find it useful in the future if they encounter the same issues.
I am on a 10 day old P9 Lite with build VNS-L31C432B131. The phone is a single SIM, SIM free phone ( not carrier locked ), completely stock and not rooted ( FRP is currently locked ).
I am wanting to get on to Android N ASAP so I installed Firmware finder and tried to install B381 by pushing it to the updater. The file downloaded fine

and rebooted as normal but the installer failed to check the package(?)
.
I tried to download the following files through Firmware Finder
B160
B161
B370
B371
B380
B381
and not one of them worked, all giving the same issue.
I spoke to Huawei service who said to try a different wifi network in case of a stability issue. Although sceptical I tried it to no avail. I then contacted them again and they said to try a factory reset which I have done ( this time leaving FRP locked ) yet I still cant install any update.
Does anyone else have any ideas on what I can do to get onto B381 please. Do I have to unlock the bootloader? Do I have to root the device? Do I have to take it back and buy a P10?
Thanks in advance folks.

in order to get OTA updates your bootloader needs to stay locked and phone unrooted... maybe Nougat ota is not yet available in your country... I got it yesterday. Just be patient.
I have same model I had to unlock bootloader and flash twrp and then b371 through recovery. Unable to update to b381 at moment though

Are OTA updates not carrier specific? IE Vodafone EE etc
With mine being a SIM free non branded phone am I likely to get the OTA? How many other folk in the UK have got the 7.0 update?

no matter if your phone is sim free, the sim that you use is from some provider and they decide when ota is going to be pushed... atleast in my country is like that..
I have managed to get on to B371 and will report on how it works for me in a few days.
This is how I came from B131 for anyone else that gets stuck.
1. I backed everything up and then did a factory reset ( mainly to clear out all the junk lol )
2. I reinstalled all my essential apps
3. I downloaded the official B161 Huawei UK firmware from HERE
4. I extracted the dload folder and put it on my phones internal memory and rebooted the phone, holding down all three buttons as it started.
5. Flashed the update and waited for it to install.
6. I checked and I was on VNS-L31C432B161
7. I opened HiCare and looked in " early OS adopters " and saw an update to B371. I then accepted the terms and downloaded it.
8. 10 mins later my device was running VNS-L31C432B371
One slight issue I did face was Google play seemed to freeze so I rebooted and it then opened fine.
I would love to install the Viper4Android sound mod but one step at a time ( mainly as I dont like the warning message on boot up ).

Thanks for this guide, it was extremely helpful. I've been trying to go from B131 to B371 for ages and you nailed it for me in about 30 minutes!
The only difference for me was that after the B161 installation the phone found B371 through the normal OTA update procedures and downloaded it. The OTA must have been released in the UK although it wasn't available when I was on B131.
:highfive:

Please help me

E:ensure_path_unmounted failed to unmount /efs (device or resource busy)

So a quick backround. Phone is a S8 (SM-G950W). I disabled the Samsung keyboard with package disabler long ago since I used Google keyboard. I put my phone into ultra power-saving mode and it locked, and I couldn't unlock it because the Google keyboard gets disabled in ultra power-saving mode and the Samsung one was disabled by me.
I had no way to get back into my phone so I wiped it through the recovery menu..
So here's my issue. Everything works fine as before, except now when I boot into the recovery menu, it will say
E:ensure_path_unmounted failed to unmount /efs (device or resource busy) a few times among the normal text in the recovery menu.
I'm on stock Rogers most recent firmware and the phone has never been rooted or had anything except stock Rogers firmware on it. It was the first time I wiped the phone since getting it.
Any one have any insight how to fix it. It's not really affecting anything on the phone from what I can tell, it's just bothering me since it wasn't there before.
Everything still loads the same except for that message/error whatever It is appearing. All features work on the phone and recovery menu. I've spent hours searching and can't find anything

I'm getting the same exact same error:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/eensurepathunmounted-failed-to-unmount-t3708763
Have you had any luck with this issue? In my case, I have not done any changes to my system. I'm beginning to think that this error may have been introduced with a recent firmware update.
I have also attached a picture of my recovery screen along with a section of the recovery log that also shows the error message.
If anyone has the same firmware as mine, perhaps they can boot into recovery to see if they have the same error message.
I get this too. Rogers too.
I was having problems receiving MMS messages so decided to do a factory reset as per Rogers recommendation and noticed that.
Anybody found why this appear in recovery mode and also how to solve it...?
I've given up lol. It's either no one knows or no one cares to help. Either way I just live with it now since it doesn't seem to affect anything except my ocd.
your efs partition is messed up. this is where your imei and modem information is stored. fixing it without an EFS partition backup is going to be very difficult. this is why they tell you to back up when you root. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/how-to-fix-imei-drk-issues-t3622559 the author of this thread has been helping people try and fix it. the thread is for s7 phones but he is helping with s8's as well.

My phone has never been rooted. Nor has it ever had anything but stock firmware.
This issue is different than all the other efs issues. The phone operates and runs fine aside from that popping up when you load the recovery menu.
1) I bought an sm-9550 Hong Kong version with the firmware G9550ZHU1AQJ8
had the same mistake
E: ensure_path_unmounted failed to unmount / efs (device or resource busy)
2) then I patched the old firmware G9550ZHU1AQG6 and the error disappeared.
3) updated via OTA to the new firmware, the error returned
I understand this is a problem with a specific firmware, I think they will solve it.

This confirms my theory that it was introduced with a recent firmware update. I suspect that anyone who is using a recent official firmware would see the same error message if they went into recovery mode. This appears to affect at least the S8/S8+ and Note 8 based on others who have also reported it. I recently upgraded my firmware to G955WVLU2AQK7 which has the November 1st security patch and the error message is still there. Hopefully, Samsung will address this eventually since any error message involving the efs partition is not very reassuring to see.

FYI, there appears to be a newer update for your rom (BQK5) that contains the November security update: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/VZW/download/G950USQU2BQK5/199426/

As I said in my first post, no.
I would also caution you against ignore that kind of error, as loss of efs can render your phone permanently inoperable if you do not have a backup to restore from. efs holds critical and sensitive information like your imei
Same issue here with my galaxy s8+. I'm with Bell btw.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
Same issue here, on AT&T in the U.S.
S8 Verizon with BQL1 has same issue
Same issue here on TMO S8+ with phone freezing and restarting, no solution in sight.
I have the same problem. S8+ AT&T US.
I could be wrong, but after reading the log a bit, it looks like the commands that are trying to run do not have permission to do what they want to do. Then the instructions seem to fall back to a fail safe version and some of them don't run either because the efs folder is already there. Maybe that's why on the recovery page it says busy, because it is trying to execute commands that it can't, then everything seems to go through anyway and the phone still works. Perhaps the instructions that are running in the log are off a count. Just an idea. First post too, but I've been an avid reader for a while.
My log talks about having issues with permissions. I also think I might have flashed something wrong when I first got the phone because it never hesitates to boot right into android after I flash new software. It never has any wait time on first boot. I have been on oreo beta 2 and 4 and am now back to stock waiting for an update.

(US) Huawei Mate SE - No Oreo update option on phone

I just recently purchased 3 of these phones and 2/3 had Oreo already ready to be setup. The 3rd however only had Android 7.0 on it.
I checked under settings for a System Update option, but couldn't find anywhere on that phone a spot to check for system updates. It did however say that it was up-to-date on system patches (Jan 2018).
Huawei support recommended that we factory restore the phone; which we did but still no option to check for system updates, etc.
Any idea on how I can get this phone to update?

Was phone used, or "refurbished" cause it sounds like it has been wiped out on the /data files. If there is no update app.
It was supposed to be in /data/hw_init folder somewhere.
No, no option to check for updates. What can I do to get that folder that you mentioned? Is there an 8.0 image I can download to factory restore from that?

I have an Honor 7X and it has caused me incredible amount of stress and waste of time trying to get Oreo. I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT.
I had been trying to use the software updater to check for Oreo for months and it always said I had the latest software - which isn't true. I also used Hi Suite to no avail. I just registered my phone with Huawei and it updated. I am not sure if your third phone is unregistered, but make an account with them and check. I wasted so much time, bricked my phone, paid for DC Unlocker, tried to flash Oreo stock etc... finally I have it the legitimate way.
Now, the next thing I would like to do is install an Oreo custom rom - but I am not paying more money to DC Unlocker. If anyone wants me account details for the DC Unlock to recover their bricked phone, I have 2 days left and will provide info.

Oreo for LG H870DS TWN halted?

For some reason I was about to update my H870DS TWN, and the download stopped midway and now says I'm on latest version (Nougat), doesn't find Oreo anymore. Does anybody know if the oreo update was halted for some reason, maybe they found it has issues or users reported problems?
My Singapore H870DS told me about the update on Friday, I went to download it today and suddenly its gone

Thanks for reporting, sure LG found major issues with the Oreo update for the G6 and halted it.
Seems like you need to wait another 2537252 Months, poor you ? I got it already since last week from lgbridge.

If you have bugs you may need to downgrade, so maybe it's better to stay on 7.0. Maybe I'm lucky I didn't upgrade.

FANTASTIC idea. Let's spam them like morons so they have to dedicate time to cleaning up the spam rather than distributing the update. Let's go a step further and call their support hotlines and scream at the underpaid students working there.

You are right.
After this nasty experience, I won't buy LG phones again.
We just need to wait
I've send an email, in english, to LG support in Taiwan, regarding android 8.0 update for the LG G6 H870DS. Let's see if they answer it.

Thank you very much! Finally could update it, here's how to do it:
HOW TO UPDATE LG G6 H870DS TWN FROM ANDROID 7 TO ANDROID 8.0 OREO
1) Download the KDZ file:
https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/15229/H870DS20a_00_OPEN_TW_DS_OP_0518.kdz
2) Download LGUP software for Windows:
Download LGUP_Install_Ver_1_14_3.msi file.
3) Download and extract LGUP_common.zip
Extract the two files inside, specially LGUP_common.dll to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common (create it if doesn't exist).
4) Power off the LG G6.
5) Then press UP volume, and while keeping it pressed connect the G6 to the computer over USB. The LG G6 should enter in Download (Flash) mode and display "Firmware Update" with an USB logo inside two arrows, plus display the COM port (in my case COM 8).
If the device is not recognize properly you may need to install LG drivers as well, they are available on previous links.
6) Open LGUP and choose UPGRADE and select the KDZ file on the 3 dots. Then hit start and don't disconnect the phone and make sure your computer does not shutdown.

}
7) Now the phone will restart and start the upgrade process of all the apps. Everything you had on your phone will be kept, installed apps, pictures, desktop configuration with folders and shortcuts, and almost all apps. Maybe some app may need re-authenticating (like FolderSync) or some widget to be re-configured (like Google Keep or calendar widgets) but for the rest of it it will be kept exactly the same, you will only notice that you have upgraded because of the newer rounded icons and the newer notification style.

Download and Install Android 8.0 Oreo on LG G6
For the few hours which I've been testing it so great so good.
I've lost patience now, too and flashed TWN FW manually (the clean way with factory reset before and after oreo upgrade) with the guide above.
First bug found so far: 5Ghz WLAN appeared in the initial setup but soon after didn't get discovered anymore. Now I hope that resetting the network settings will fix the issue.
Apart from that, the first impression is flawless and smooth. I've been used to oreo on my Xperia XZ (for months already!), though.

I did not perform a factory reset, but same issue here. 5GHz networks don't appear after the Oreo update. I guess the update was withdrawn for a reason, and now I can see a glimpse of it. Wish I never had updated, I can't see anymore 5GHz networks.
I can't demand an update from LG because I'm outside asia so no warranty, but please if anyone is, demand them to upgrade to Oreo 8.1 please.

Good news: Network Settings Reset didn't do the trick but I've found a fix (long-term functionality not yet approved):
1) Go to phone and dial *#546368#*870# to enter the hidden menu
2) Go to field test > wifi test > OTA
In my case it was disabled and enabling solved the problem! (actually I don't even have a clue what this setting is exactly for, found out through trial and error)
3) Then went one step back, entered FTM test, set 5GHz, started and boom, "start successful"! (before it had failed) :good:
4) Finally I went back to regular WiFi-Menu, was switched off so had to turn it back on, no networks, off an on again, 5Ghz was back and still is after several reboots + resetting network settings once again to double check.
Hope that works for others as well! :fingers-crossed:

The unlocked version is at 29.105-25-13. Do you know where we can download the firmware besides OTA?
Possibly https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/ht117028
I actually used that to fix my vzw Moto z4. Was stuck in a bootloop. Verizon tech support was going to send me a new phone. But the Lenovo tool allowed me to fix it. Reflash the entire firmware bootloader and all partitions. Try running the tool and try to download software. May or may not work for you

I downloaded software using the Lenovo Moto tool. I wanted to keep track of the software versions, in case I need to try to revert back for any reason. The software that was downloaded for me was:
"FOLES_PPF29.105_44_subsidy_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_CFC_xml.zip"
Is this this same version that others received? or what versions do you guys have?
I am still on on PPF29.105-25 (Android security patch level April 1, 2019).
I have the prompt for a pending OTA download/install to PPF29.105-25-13, Android security patch level July 1, 2019.
Judging from the file name of my downloaded image, is there another OTA to "PPF29.105-44"? or is the file name not coinciding with the actual software version (i.e. no such thing as "-44")?

@ahalol did you try the LMSA tool?, what is the name of the file for the firmware that it let you download?
Also, since I now, at the very least, have the unknown image from the tool (file name FOLES_PPF29.105_44), and what I believe is stock image (file name FOLES_PPF29.105-25) from getdroidtips.com webpage https://www.getdroidtips.com/motoro...e-and-firmware-collections-back-to-stock-rom/
to revert to, if necessary.....I installed the PPF29.105-25-13 OTA.
Just now I also received notification that another OTA is available. See screenshot below. I will do a little research as to what it is before I install..

It is asking me to download FOLES_PPF29.105_44. I guess I will go with this one. My system is rooted and the /system partition was modified (host file). I will manually sideload it.

Ok, cool. Let me know after install what Build Number that download corresponds with.
I am not rooted (yet) as I only absolutely care about native hotspot, so I will continue accepting OTAs until the Native hotspot is ever broken.

It doesn't want me to install. Most likely due to my modification on the Host file. I think I will not update and flash all new when Q comes out.
New OTA available for unlocked Z4
New OTA, software PPFS29.105-25-13-2, provides August 1, 2019 security patch (screenshot below).
Have not noticed any changes. Here is link to Maintenance Release Notes for this software update:

Try rebooting your phone, then check for update.....or check for update at diff times of the day (i.e. after 9pm or if possible around 3-4am)...with a combination of also rebooting and checking again, if no update upon initial try.
I have an unlocked z4 and it also says I'm up to date on June 2019. When I used the LMSA it downloads the -44 file but when it flashes it and fastboots nothing happens. To those of you who are getting updates on the unlocked Z4, which carrier are you using it on? Mine is using a roaming SIM and not a US carrier but even when I swapped out it still didn't work.

I have unlocked version(XT1980-3) on US verizon as carrier.
However, not entirely sure if that matters. I had gotten notification of the previous update (PPF29.105-25-13, June 1st security patch) connected to wifi, before I had ever inserted a SIM into the phone.
Now def on Aug 1st security patch (see screenshot).
New OTA update came through today. Looks to be just the Sept 1 security patch.
Unlocked Z4 on vzw network.
The Amazon version used in Europe is on August patch. When I set it up a initially here, I did get a few updates. Was curious if there will be a difference compared to retail. Seems there is.
Mine is also 105-71
Rooted
Only having bootloader unlocked and running bone stock XT1980-3, while randomly checking for updates, I started getting the message "System Integrity Compromised" and indication that I was not eligible for updates and need to contact customer service.
I ended up patching boot.img with magisk method, and now SafetyNet check passes and a check for update is back to saying "Your device is up to date" (I never even checked anything off under the magisk hide feature, and root checker says I'm rooted).
Best of all, it looks like there is a method for continuing to accept OTAs while retaining root using magisk.
New OTA for unlocked Z4... Oct 1 Security patch:
PPF29.105-75
Stock Rom/Boot (no TWRP), unlocked BL, rooted with Magisk.
Followed instructions for taking OTA while retaining root with Magisk. No issues. Flawless.
Sooo..... I have XT1980-3 with bootloader unlocked purchased directly from Motorola and using T-Mobile. Original Stock, did not flash any other stock FW on top. I was also getting the warnings that I was not able to install a system update because my device was not secure because I unlocked the bootloader........then all of the sudden out of the blue I was able to download and install the update today without doing anything. And now I have the same October Security update that we were probably suppose to get two months ago. LOL! Not complaining I guess, it's just weird.
Hopefully one day we will get some TWRP and Custom Rom love. Sending Positive Energy For This ?
