H910 not updating OTG/PC Suite - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hi There !
I have recently bought LG V20 H910. It is on android 7.0 and its further details are as below:
Android security patch level: December 1, 2016
Build number: NRD90M
Software version: H91010i
Whenever i try to update the android, it says that there is no further update available. I tried both OTG as well as LG PC suite methods. When i tried searching for security patches on LG site, i got this info that latest patch is from March 2018.
I wanted to know how can i update my phone and why it says that there is no update available, when there is update available as per this LG site
My device is not rooted. I tried to root it earlier to install lineage OS (by following the guide). I am not a tech savvy kind of person at all.
Please help me with this.
Regards
Awais Javaid.

Sounds like your previous attempt at root screwed up automatic Ota from your carrier. Your going to need to root and twrp to flash an updated stock rom

Looks like you've the att model, are you actually on ATT? I've seen reports that if the att model doesnt have an ATT sim it wont find updates.

Well it seems so. I tried rooting it with kingoroot and it failed. Then i searched online for rooting solution and came to know that v20 cannot be rooted by these software because the bootloader is locked.. It needs another method (told in forums). Well i didn't try them.
I need some further help in this regards. I have few questions. I hope you can answer them.
1. If i unlock the bootloader and install twrp and then install the stock rom, CAN I INSTALL ANY stock rom, for example, stock rom of international model instead of at&t version?
2. I am using h910 but not with at&t sim. I am on other network. Will installing with official rom (other than at&t version), keep the gsm working>?

You could possibly flash the US996 which is the unlocked version, as far as updates you'll have to check and see if there's updates for it from LG, but the big concern would be determining what bands are available with that variant to see if they are compatible with your carrier, you can also check this forum and see if there's updated 996 roms that you could flash to get the latest security patches. But as the previous poster stated as long as you are on 910 rom and using another carrier's sim you'll never get an update from AT&T

Correct KDZ File for Root Help - H990DS

Hi all,
I recently purchased a brand new, factory sealed, LG-H990DS from Amazon.com in the US. From all the documents that came with it, the unit is from LGE Singapore. However, my firmware is v10f_SEA_XX rather than an SG version (I understand Singapore versions should be _SG, correct?).
Now, I want to downgrade to an earlier security patch (Currently June 1st, 2017), so that I can root the phone and hopefully enable VoLTE (I have it in Quick Settings but it's grayed out and I can't toggle it )
I'm confused about which .kdz to use... there's a bunch of SG and TWN ones, but won't that brick my phone? I already bricked my first H918 (T-Mobile) one by somehow flashing the wrong T-Mo .kdz (in hind-sight I should have checked the md5 sum). I know H990DS is a lot harder to root than TMO so I'm kinda scared. I've rooted/flashed on many, many phones, but the H990DS seems to be the most tricky.
Thanks for your help in advance!
I've got H990DS too and managed to root it.
I am using this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/dirtysanta-h990-t3624296/.
But I've got November 2017 security patch, so I got to downgrade to earlier firmware using this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/restore-v20-to-100-stock-bricked-devices-t3524903. I use oldest firmware available, that is v10b https://lg-firmwares.com/download-file/?fileId=4345. and currently stuck here with 10b. currently figuring out how to update to the latest firmware using KdzFlasher
Hi Boxy52, I have the same phone, the KDZ file you need is (https://lg-firmwares.com/download-file/?fileId=5196) version "V10c", with this you can begin the tutorial writed of the described above by the damadikaz, after you can upgrade the firmware up to version V10h on tutorial https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/tool-kdz-writer-t3649818...
Hey damadikaz,
So to confirm - it doesn't matter which region I flash - I won't be bricked, correct? My only concern was if I flashed the wrong region. But if all H990DS firmwares work with eachother, I shouldn't have an issue other than bloat?
Thanks!
boxy52
Hey pkrename,
You have the SEA firmware as well right, so I've got a question - do you have any bloat ware? Mine has none! My phone shipped with V10f_SEA_XX and I have ZERO bloatware its amazing because I've heard everyone else with SEA firmwares was stuck with a lot of bloatware. Do you think I've got some special version of the ROM? Just want to make sure that I'm indeed on the same ROM as you.
Thanks!
boxy52
Hi Box, Sorry I'm late, about the firmware bloatwares, I have no problem with them ... at least in my firmware I do not have many bloatwares other than google.
For anyone wondering:
First try the TWN series of Firmware. My phone came with TWN-10C (December 1st Security Patch) so I was able to root straight out of the box. I still use the TWN firmware today (except the latest version as displayed in my signature) as this is the cleanest of Firmwares I've found so far. All I had to do was use Root Uninstaller to uninstall a few Facebook/Instagram/other apps that came with the firmware and that was it.
Secondly, the SEA/SG (South-East Asia and Singapore) firmwares are the same, as seen here
Hope this helped

How to roll back to the earliest version of ROM? (LS997)

Hi,
I got my LG V20 (LS997) today, and I decided to update it. My phone took couple of updates till it reaches the last one. I decided to root my phone then, but I was failed to do so. I got to know that I have to roll back to the ROM which has a security patch before Dec 2016. There are a number of guiding threads here, but the phone is my phone is not rooted, so how am I going to flash those files? Also, LGUP doesn't detect my phone at all. I don't know why.
I think the latest version has anti rollback =1
So you can't rollback.
And there is no root for the latest version of sprint variant of lg v20 as I know.
Lg patch dll
There is a patch lgup dll file that can flash go to the main forum and you will find it

Ahh, so normally you would actually be able to do a rollback, so this is just one more of these Satanic things to make it hard for the user to do whatever he wants with HIS device. I was so sad when I updated to the latest version as it seemed the mobile overall became slower. So had I had the option I would have rollback in an instant.

US996 Latest Firmware??

What is the latest US996 firmware? I found US99610o_01_0202.kdz with a date of 3/1/2018 on LG Firmwares.com. Of course I connect to LG Bridge but I never get an update there. Anyone using this?

the firmware you listed was released by US Cellular for the US996, but since it's not showing for you in LG Bridge I'm guessing you have the unlocked US996? are you rooted as well?
Yes unlocked US996 but not rooted. I'm on build NRD90M, version US99610n showing Nov 6th security patch. I believe I got this firmware from the same site a few months back after I first bought the phone. Of course I didn't realize there are different US996 firmwares. What I'm running now has been flawless for months, I just don't know what the latest unlocked US996 firmware is. Any idea?
Hi rzracer2,
Did you ever get/find an answer to your question. I'm in the same boat. I have US 996 unlocked running build NRD90M. Software version is US99610d. Both UpdateCenter and LG bridge state I have the latest OS. On LG bridge it is confusing, after I click the OK accepting I already have the latest OS, what's on screen implies there is a newer version.
Seems like there is the US mobile firmware which have new versions, and then the unlocked which has pretty much been abandoned?! Pity, the whole reason I got the factory unlocked was so that I wouldn't be hostage to the carrier update schedule... sigh..
I don't know if this will be of any help............

thanks! I'll look into it. With my previous phones, I used to flash custom roms, root the phone, etc... I got fed up with that and decided to go stock and factory unlocked so as to not deal with carrier bloatware/nonsense. That was the whole reason I got this phone. I was hoping to keep updated/hassle free with OTA updates. Looks like that is not the case and I'm back to flashing roms! Thanks LG!

My phone is not rooted or anything just a normal phone. I am just trying to update it to the latest Android Version 9.0(Pie) , I just made this thread for the reason of maybe someone can help me on updating my phone.
Where you able to update it? Or are you still having issues?

[Q] VS995 Bootloader Unlock Question

Hello, I apologize for the noobish question in advance.
I don't have an LG V20 myself, my friend has one and wants to unlock the bootloader. Normally Verizon devices are NOT bootloader unlockable but when I looked on this site (could be fake but who knows till they ask) it appears the Verizon variant of the LG V20 is in fact unlockable. As someone who is unfortunately very familiar with Verizon variants of phones, this is unusual news to me. Usually Verizon locks their stuff down with no hope of unlocking.
Anyway, just wanted to ask if that site's guide was correct for how to unlock the bootloader on the LG VS995 variant from Verizon. His Android version is 8.0.0, build number OPR1.170623.032. Software version VS99520c. Security patch October 1st, 2018. Security software version MDF v2.0 Release 4. Do I need to downgrade the firmware at all or can I just do it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. He wants LineageOS on that thing (to get the latest security patches) and I don't blame him.
It's not that easy unfortunately.
The first thing that would need to be done is to revert the phone back to Nougat 12a or 13a. I have not done this part (both my VS995 were on some version of Nogat, I reverted the version to 12a by flashing the kdz), but guides are available to revert to Nogat from Oreo on XDA in the
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/
Section.
Then what is on that site would most likely work. I would suggest using this guide instead as I have rooted two VS995 with it. It is less confusing that the Dirty Santa or Dirty Elf guides IMHO, but it is later and builds on those guides.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-root-twrp-lg-v20-using-dirtysanta-t3722278.
Good luck, although if you plan to use the phone on Verizon, it's only a matter of time before a stock ROM with VoLTE is a requirement for using the phone. I guess he can switch back at that point (or go to one of the GSM providers).

Just to clarify this isn't just a root this is a full on bootloader unlock right? I assume it is because TWRP gets flashed, but then again there were custom recoveries in the past that were just Safestrap and weren't full on recoveries (still locked BLs). Because the end goal here is to install Lineage or something like that to the phone. I'm not interested in just rooting stock.
Also, wasn't aware about the stock ROM requirement thing for Verizon, I thought it was only VoLTE they were implementing. That's a bummer. Thanks for the heads up
