Face unlock coming soon? - Huawei Mate 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

I got the MHA-L29 8.0.0.368 about two weeks ago.
Out of curiosity, I checked FF today to see a listing of MHA-L29 8.0.0.371 with face unlock & May 2018 security patch

thank you huawei for bringing face unlock to mate9!

Work well. I already install it (L29C636B371).

yes it does.. lift your phone and it auto detects your face

MHA-AL00C00 already has face unlock, rise to wake up screen. Although I don’t know whether it’s safe or not, but the face unblock works amazing!!!!! No longer need finger print. Just rise you hand.

I'm patiently waiting for C187's turn I fan see C636 but no 187, if not i will have to rebrand

I donthave on my c372 .where should it be?

Probably wont use it, the fingerprint sensor on the back is natural and I don't have to be looking at the screen.
As long as they don't ditch the fingerprint sensor, just give us the choice to use the one we wish, I'm fine with it.

Nice to see Huawei has not forgot about the mate 9. Hope we get Android P as well. But unfortunately there's no update for me yet.

I have just installed the new version with face unlock and I can say it works great. It is useful to me because when I am riding my bike in gloves I have to enter the pin every time to unlock, this has made it a lot easier. Thx a lot huawei.

There was a rumour that they'll remove Treble, also the latest news of Huawei stopping to provide unlock codes makes the situation even sadder, but, can you please confirm that Treble is still ok in .371?
Eg. using an app like Treble Check
Thanks

Sometimes my face unlocks the phone before I put my finger on the phone. I am digging it.

Hello
I've installed the update and the face unlock is working great.
Is it possible to record 2 different faces to unlock my Mate 9?

If that's the only reason you need the lock screen password then yes I can confirm once again that it works. Just follow the thread.
Another option is to use WidgetLocker. Then you would have the lockscreen Dashclock and a customizable unlock slider, and then a password/pattern lock screen afterwards. This is what my wife uses, and it works well.

Not the same. The lockscreen is a bit more convenient IMO. Quick glance would require an extra step to unlock the phone.

Yea really and I did read what I wrote. We're talking about how to fix a $600 phone to make it work BETTER. Of course its notbon the same level as curing cancer or world hunger. From what I've read in your post your always right. Bud just because someone else wants to mess with their phone when they have to Odin to fix it, or they are looking for a solution to a problem you feel is unimportant does not mean they are less then you. Some of us want to make our phones as good as they can be FOR US. This is what this whole site is about. DEVELOPING ways to IMPROVE our phones. Improvement for ke may mean nothing for you but still it deserves a place here. This site is not KryptosXLayer2-development.com.

WHOA, settle down, good God! Apparently this issue IS as important as world hunger or curing cancer to you!
You don't have to attempt to educate me on why we screw around with these phones, I'm not new to this, chief..... I just recommended something that works for JUST as well, but you've obviously got some issues to resolve in your own life, so have fun dealing with all that, geez!

Everyone has their issues in life. Mine are fairly minor. I'm just not big on stopping progress just because I feel the immediate effects are useless. To me the end result could be something amazing. This might end up inspiring someone to get AOSP lockscreen working, or even someone to learn to code etc. Basically I see it as an opportunity. I took your comment the same way I take people who dont want to research basic science or ways to save certain animals from extinction etc because they dont see the immediate point. Of course this is much less important but the thought process seemed the same "I wont benifit in the next few days, who cares". I try to allow my mind to stay open, and to see opportunities were ever they appear. I dont honestly think 5 threads about bootloaders aee needed or the AdamOutler's thread is needed yet (I personally would have waited until Dan released his hack to expect the theead to stay on topic since so many people laced so much hope on Dan that theybare foing to talk about it every were they can.) But I dont go around telling these people they are wrong and their issues unimportant. I let the threads be and check in from time to time to see if anything meaningful has occured. Maybe it's just the American in me be I perfer to let people have their important issues and help those I can and those I agree with while not bothering those whom I can't help or those whom I don't agree with.

I like widgetlocker. Only issue I have is sometimes it does not load, or is slow to load. These are nit to bad though and this is what is holding me over until I can mess around and try to enable AOSP lockscreen.

I would love to know this as well. I know the S5 did not work that way. I hope this does as I work in a HIPAA complaint business that has to have the phone encrypted. Thats the one thing I do like about the iphone is it comes encrypted therefor the fingerprint reader works with encryption.
I have heard that in Android 5.0 they are going to have encryption on by default.

I have read the same thing. Here is a brief article on it. Well I guess I cannot post links but I am sure a simple Google search will show you the same thing lol. Hope Samsung gets the update to the Note 4 pretty quickly.
From what I saw Samsung wants to get Lolipop out by the end of the year.

Though, encryption will only be on by default on new devices. Hopefully the change in Android 5 will still mean that encryption will be possible with fingerprint security only.

Coming Soon: Enable OK Google "Always On" on the Huawei Mate 9

Hey guys, as you might know, the "OK Google" hotword detection is not able to be used when the screen is off. I thought this was odd given the sheer amount of sensors packed in the Mate 9, so I wanted to see if I could find a workaround. And find a workaround I did! Best of all, it does not require root and does not drain any extra battery as it takes advantage of one of Huawei's native EMUI features
I'll post a tutorial on the XDA Portal so keep a look out for it!

New features in Note FE after Oreo update

Hi all,
I'm just curious what new features Oreo brings to our devices.
Here is what I have noticed so far:
- camera updated with stickers
- camera options with separated timer for both cameras
- Bixby Vision
- in recent applications preview you can select list view
- paired applications in dual screen view (same as in Note8)
- edge app shortcut can be edited by holding it longer
- live message build in
- additional toolbar in Samsung keyboard
- unlocking with fingerprint sensor is MUCH faster and precise
- notification is showing when phone was unlocked successfully or not with fingerprint scanner
- while using Google Maps Navigation and switching to other app, small window staying at the top showing the route
- much more options to edit photo in the gallery
What did you spoted?
Wow, nice. Still waiting for the update
there is an improvement in battery performance too, but what was lacking was just adding portraiture to the camera ;/

No, only Iris scanner.
To have FaceUnlock there needs to be hardware support which Note FE doesn't have.

Read again. The S8/S8+ didn't receive Project Treble. Also in your link it is in the category "Devices updated to Oreo without Treble". So no, only S9/S9+ have Treble (and all other Samsung devices that will have Android 8 Oreo from the beginning!).
Just got the Oreo update in Malaysia. Try manually searching for software update if you have not seen the notification.

I am pretty certain Samsung won't give Project Treble to old devices. Only those released with Android 8 because it is mandatory by Google. So, don't count on Treble for S8/S8+/Note8.
