Are we getting Android P? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

It is a pity that this question should even be asked even though the V20 is less than 2 years old.
Normally the phone should get 2 major software updates in 2 years. However, since we do not have android oreo yet, one begins to wonder. It will be very nice to have android P though.
Pixel and adroid one phones are looking interesting to me nowadays just because of software updates.
What do you guys think?

Android P is just a preview. We do not know anything about Android P update policies for LG devices.

The chances for an official Andriod P is 50/50 . They may just give up given how poorly this phone sold. But it will definitely meet the minimum requirements for it. But through Roms /LOS we might get 2 major updates and if we're lucky 3.

Like xda member wrote its 50/50. But by the time the v20 gets it you're probably going to have another phone lol

That preety much sums it up if the updates arent in sync with the OS release, then eventually youll out grow your phone for a better one.

When it comes to ROM, I guess it depends more on developers than the hardware. The Galaxy S3 is 6 years old by now, and developers are still working on Oreo for it.

True the S3 is still getting support but the S3 had significantly higher sales than the V20 , and possibly more devs

Nope

We'll get Marshmallow any time now and as for N, our xda developer will handle it .

(sorry for my poor English)
x86-64 android is a dream.
nexus player uses intel z3560 (same as z008) and ROM made by "Google" but it's still 32bit android even N preview....
That's what we get for dealing with a company that isn't generally in the mobile device market like Samsung, Motorola, LG etc.... Our devices are just unlocked phones for use with multiple carriers and there is no real incentive for ASUS to update Firmware like there is for Samsung or another major manufacturer who makes carrier specific phones.
You bought a budget phone that is actually better than most. You know what you were getting for $200 bucks so stop complaining. Let me know when you buy your $800 premium phone. Until then stop the *****ing. Thank you good night

I'm honestly not satisfied with mine.
I have to resort to custom rom to fix my STOCK ROM problems, connection drops and horrible RAM management along with apps reloading even when just pressing the recents button. Hell, my LG G2 with 2gb of RAM and on 6.0 doesn't even break a sweat with the same tasks while my Zenfone 2 does even though the Zenfone 2 scores higher on benchmarks,
Custom Roms have made this phone more than usable but it shouldn't be that way, Asus's software should of been able to provide me with the necessary fixes and such that it needed.

Makes me wonder why Samsung is just as slow as ASUS with software updates...
The actual list of devices actually released globally with android M is still very low. It is not an ASUS problem specifically.

Indeed they update quiet often.
But for me it's not compareable due to the many changes Xiaomi does. And even MiUi 7 is based on Android 5.1.1... released 5 Months ago...

Besides the point as to how much I paid for my phones.
And who are these other people? I only mentioned MY usage between my LG G2 (from 2013) and Zenfone 2.
The fact is that, the Zenfone 2 scores higher in benchmarks meaning that it should outperform my LG G2 in performance which is not doing which is a problem. It will stutter in opening Chrome and using chrome while it completely smooth on the G2.
My next points were the issues I have with cellular connection and memory management. This is just poor on the stock rom, my connection drops every time and memory is filled at startup and if I use the startup manager I won't get my notifications, Now, on the custom roms, these two issues are fixed meaning that Asus could of fixed them themselves and made me have to resort to other means of getting these issues fixed. (I don't mind using custom roms as they are normally listening to people). That is not how a product should be, it should have been fixed on their stock software and not other software.
And if you have it that it is my cellular problem, then that is false because my other 3 phones have no problem in keeping the signal.
NO issues with ZF2 with CM12.1 and CM13, just minor beta problems that's all. We should be thankful to devs who made this possible, First when I saw the Bootloader hack I was excited, to my luck CM12.1 and CM13 made even custom kernels plus multiboot also, It's almost a nexus experience isn't it ? And N's only for Nexuses, they have the src, binaries and OTAs, that will never make to the normal devices....Even making the CM properly work took enough time with src that was available with 5.0.x releases for our phones, I think we should worry more about the 64Bit MM ASUS release

Xiaomi is one of the best brands regarding updates and longtime support. But there is nothing compareable at the moment. And there won't. People aren't demanding, so why should there be development? There are enough users which doesn't bother. Or buy an new device after 24 months.
N for ZF2 ?

Just in 7.1.1 coming to nexus 6 in January

They had a bug to fix finally...
Lenovorola mentioned this last month. Is your source different from mine (Lenovorola Germany)?
Might be AP's post - http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/1...7-1-1-update-will-come-nexus-6-early-january/ - they sent in a query to Google, and Google's response indicated "early Jan"
Was there ever any doubt? The Nexus 6 will get every Nougat release (7.1.1, 7.1.2, etc.). It will not, however, receive Android O.
@Candy[MAN]: It will be at Google's discretion as to whether we get an official upgrade to Android 8.0 or not. But even if we don't, ROM developers will be building from source for years to come. One way or another, this device will have Android 8.0 on it.
Never underestimate power of Nexus devices.
too little, too late. personally the only reason i bought a Nexus was to have the latest android version ALWAYS. and google has disappointed.
though im glad for drivers being available to public so we can have an arsenal of stable and functional ROMs being developed by other devs.
currently running PureNexus 7.1.1 with the middle finger help up facing google.

Tsk tsk. There's no room for accusations like that here. The reason I got a Nexus 6 was so that I'd have the latest stock OS without having to flash some buggy (yes, they are buggy and there are always room for screwups) ROM and worry about having an operable phone. Google has done a fine job of providing a stable experience on great hardware at low cost. This phone has been out for 2 years now. Why they can't get these Nougat updates out on time is beyond me. "Well it's the only 32-bit Nexus left" is not an excuse. Android has been built on 32-bit up until the past year or two, and 64-bit phones only became "good" in the past year. Whether the fault lies with Lenovo/Motorola or with Google, the fact is that we just don't have 7.1.x yet, and that's just an embarrassment on whoever's fault that is.

Well considering that what ever Google pushes can be made by syncing aosp, build it, flash it and gapps and you have the same thing Google pushed out.
The n6 is eol pretty much. So it is not a surprise that it is last.
Also yes 64 bit just started being the norm. Which means they have been working on it for all east 2 years. People seem to forget that when a device is released the oem already started work on the next device a few months prior. So in sense the brand new device you just got is already outdated as far as the maker is concerned.
Also considering that the stock update issued from Google has bricked many devices that did get it. Then by all means be in a rush.
I have been on a bugless 7.1.1 room now for weeks if not months.

Some weeks ago when i flashed PN 7.1.1, as an example, i was stuck outside of home in need of creating an hotspot and not being able to do it kicking out an error (lucky me carrying more than one phone at a time). I wouldn't call that bugless, also the battery life is worse and it tends to lag more with time.
Custom roms are nice as they are, without proper blobs there will always be "bugs", "drains", "hacks" to make it work. It's funny flashing different roms to pass time but in the end i always return to stock with a custom kernel because everything works as it should.
Google spits out bull**** every time an update is released, i would prefer them saying they would stop supporting the device than spiting out lies as they always do lately. Good guy croogle is no more.

Can't say anything about pure nexus as I have never used it nor will I.
Of course there will always be hacks but let me let you in on something. Considering that the 7.1.1 update was made for devices with dual partitions, for them to get it to work on the older devices, n6, n6p and 5x there will be hacks to make it work directly from Google. Most likely what caused a bunch of bricks from Google ota. There was a commit just yesterday that was supposed to fix the issue a second time.
No OS is perfect. Not custom or official. They all have bugs.

But that's the thing, it's not technically 7.1.1 without the proper driver blobs from Lenovo/Motorola, and obviously we don't have those without the official 7.1.1 update. You may have the 7.1.1 OS, but until the official 7.1.1 is released for Nexus 6, the hardware won't be any more stable than the latest official nougat we have.

Assuming that there are significant changes in the drivers and vendor blobs from 7.0 official. Didn't seem to be from 7.0 to 7.1.
Funny we saw this same kind of bullkaka (lies) that google would keep updating our Nexus too. And we got nougat, like 3 or 4 months after they promised it. I ran the beta for a long time. Now we thought it would be 7.1.1 like the other Nexus devices that came out after ours. And not even a January patch yet. It does not take a genius to figure out that they are trying to get us to upgrade the device. I refuse to give in. I will just keep the November build and use a custom kernel and doubt I am missing any swell things.

I just vented in the 9 forum as well, but F google here too. They suckered me in with the nexus 5 about 4 years ago as bait, great inexpensive phone I enjoyed using. It also opened up my world to sites like XDA and customizing android. I was hooked right away. So I even upgraded to the 6 and 9 when they came out expecting the same kind of experience . But now looking back I have had lie to myself about just how good the experience has been.
The 5x and 6p gave me no reason to upgrade, I was excited for the pixel line but Google seems to be taking steps to lock it all down from now on.... sooo, I'm out !

Bad News If You're Waiting For Oreo 8.0 On The 7X:

Sorry Guys...
If you were hoping to get updated to EMUI / OREO 8.0 in Quarter One...
Like Huawei / Honor PROMISED!
Then it saddens me to inform you it's not coming until at least Quarter Two of 2018 now...
https://www.xda-developers.com/honor-7x-honor-8-emui-8-q2-2018-honor-france/
Are you sticking with the 7X now?
I personally don't like companies that lie to their customers.. They should have never thrown Quarter One out there if they new they were not going to meet target.
It's the "Budget Phone" of the 2017 lineup.. but this is still a slap in the face.
It's still coming just a little late.
You sound like a junkie desperate for a fix.
It missed the target by a few weeks a month or more there's bigger things to worry about.
Compare it to the recent botch job of a update by Xiaomi.

Now Huawei / Honor Has Shown Their True Colors....
THIS IS THE BOTTOM TIER UNIT.. AND NOT WORTH ANY REAL EFFORT.. In their eyes.
There is not a Gosh Darn Reason this should not have gotten Oreo by now when the View 10 lanuched with it.. and now, they are saying it may not be here until JUNE!
It's because it a $199.99 phone... that's why.
I personally do not like being lied to.. I went through this with ZTE.. promising 7.0 and giving nothing.
I do believe they also promised the 6X Nougat.. and delayed and delayed it.. ( Did it ever get it? )
And Finally,
What Does This Do To The Development Community ?
There Is No Nougat Image Even Released ! and it's been over 60 days since this device went on sale !
There Sure As Hell Ain't Going To Be An Oreo Image Released at this pace UNTIL July / August !!!
Can't create any ROM's without any Images! Stripped or Otherwise.
Project Treble.......................................Down The Drain........... now, for at least several months.
If Ever.
Do You See ANY Developer's Waiting Around For This Device ?
Not when the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, Moto G6 Plus, OnePlus 6 Hell..... EVEN HONOR"S OWN VIEW 10! are right there and will have STRONG Developmental Support behind each and every one of them.
All of you that rooted.... you did the right thing... may as well have fun with it if you are going to keep it (Just don't muck it up so you can at least sell it at some point)
Even though it's feature packed (in my eyes) for a budget device Honor is just not "Honorable"
That means A LOT to me. And you're telling us you can't get the final tweaks right within the next 50+ days???
Then you are not putting forth much effort to meet target on your bottom of the line device.
And the competition I mentioned is just around the corner.. and they WILL LAUNCH with Oreo 8.0.. and get TREMENDOUS Development Support... with or without the advantages of Project Treble...
The 7X 's Loyalty Is About To Be Tested.
Doesnt bother me actually... id I NEED Oreo, ill likely just hop on a custom rom (Already got a beta AOSP Oreo out) but happy with 7 for now. I came form the V8 Blade Pro so waiting another Q or 2 isn't that bad.
I'd rather wait for a finished product as opposed to getting a half assed rushed disaster tbh.
I find it disappointing that there is not a full firmware available for download.
Are they delaying Oreo for other reasons? They should at least have the firmware for Nougat.
How did they install from the factory? Seems a little lame.
When did they promise a Q1 release? Cause any time I've reached out to customer service, all they told me was "soon." I know there was some XDA article about it back in like September, but I never really determined if that was anything more than hearsay.
Honor US has said they're shooting for a release "by April", which technically does not rule out a Feb/March release (though I doubt it will come before April).

WHERE???
I don't see ANY ROM's here on XDA... Where Is This Beta ???

I somewhat agree though I'm not too ticked off. This is a very solid phone, but by the time we get 8.0 (April apparently) Android P will already be in the works. Well, just know that I'll most likely never purchase another Honor device again. The Moto G6 Plus is looking really attractive though, I might ditch the 7x for the G6 this coming summer.
Go look in the Roms, kernels forum, it's there.
I'd like to see a list of which companies have NOT missed delivery dates at some point for their updates along the way. It isn't unusual at all, and doesn't really meet the criteria of a lie in my opinion, but everyone can take it how they like. I've managed projects before so I know that timelines slip for many reasons, very rarely is it becuase of a desire to decieve anyone. But I can't ascribe motive to them, I can only see what is happening. Anyway, sorry it has apparrently been a life-destorying moment for some to hear this news, but I agree with many on here that I would rather get a stable release even if it slips a little bit. Being in the USA I know I'll get it last anyway, so it isn't something I'm checking for every day anyway.
Dude chill a little man damn. Big deal, things get delayed, **** happens. And there is a rom posted in the rom section of this phone. How could you miss it when you post in almost every thread when anyone talks about rooting their phone. It's right here man,

It's not by "some hack in their basement" it's posted by OpenKirin which is a known development group. Sometimes you sound like you freaking work for Huawei and now you sound like you work for their competitors. Phones been out like two months or so and you're expecting to be flooded with updates and whatnot.

And you're right.. If the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 OR the Moto G6 Plus looks as good as the renders... with the support they will get WORLDWIDE this thing is out the door.

That ROM is a WIP with all 3 cameras broken and BT disabled. If you chose to flash that ROM and haven't made a stock back up then you're SOL.

Honor US has said they're shooting for a release which technically does not rule out a Feb/March release (though I doubt it will come before April).

Man.. I'm with you on the Moto G6 Plus!
It may cost $30.00 to $60.00 more.. But as we are now seeing here You Get What You Pay For.
I had a Moto G5 Plus screen was just too small for me but, Developer Support almost from day one was OFF THE HOOK! Great Camera's as well. And now with the styling catching up to the times... Oh Man! :good:
But have you seen the renders of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 ? Most Sexy Sub-$300.00 device on the planet..

Do u expect the Moto G6 Plus to get newer versions of Android faster? The Moto G5 Plus released with Nougat and has never recieved the Oreo update. The patches date back to October or November whereas the Honor 7X is recieving the Feb security patches on some units.
I don't really get why r people freaking out abt this. U paid $199 which is a great value, so what if an update got delayed by a month or 2. Samsung has done this, Motorola has done it too many times to even count.
Oreo 8.0 has a bad rep for being unstable which is making it hard for OEMs to roll the update out.
And finally u can't expect a company to give equal emphasis to a BUDGET phone and to a FLAGSHIP phone. Thats the reality. Pick up any samsumg mid Ranger and u'll find that the Honor 7X has recieved more updates, the same goes for anything from Motorola. The Honor View 10 is reported to cost around $400-$450 which is twice the cost of the Honor 7X.
There is the argument abt Dev support but I can guarantee atleast 90-95% ppl using Android don't care abt ROMs or rooting.

Google Pixel: 2 years later

It's been 2 years since Google Pixel (XL) was released.
Unfortunately, this means no more major releases for these phones.
I hope the community would still be able to create some porting of next versions of Android, because the OG Pixel still rocks nowadays.
Too bad that a powerful phone like this one will only get security patches for only one year from now.
I still hope they give us 9.1
"No guaranteed Android version updates after" does not mean that there is no chance, if next Android versions don't require to much tinkering to be ported to the Pixel I think they will do it.

I was thinking the same thing about "guaranteed." I found no compelling reason to move to Pixel 2. I still see nothing in Pixel 3 that makes me want to spend the money especially to guarantee bootloader unlock.

I second that. Pixel is still kicking.
What's with the Treble thing? Do you think we could get future versions ported easily?
I purchased a Pixel second hand off eBay about 2 months ago, switch from a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active and I can say without a doubt. It out does the Galaxy without a problem. Though I miss the heartbeat monitor. It is sad to see that this powerful phone doesn't have any more Android version updates anymore but the community probably will be updating it more and more. My favorite thing about this phone I have to say is just the usability and ease or finding everything where it makes sense to find.
Keyword is "minimum" at the top. Google like Samsung and many other makers are only obligated to provide support for two years. That is all they are saying. Also, with Google having the Pixel /XL on Android P, do you really they will drop support with only a few makers with Pie? Other makers say only two year support. Most phone like this one has gotten two major Android os updates. Since this also is their first in house phone with full Google logo inside and out, I highly doubtful they will just drop support. Why even put out Android P on the pixel? They could stuck at 8.1 and not updated to P. They are keeping their phones out there viable. With most their testing of new OS on their in house phones, and it being HTC, which they now own half of, no way do I see them dropping support. Especially how close all three versions are. A few different drivers per phone, but highly used chipsets across the board. The Sailfish and Marlin still have more development than say Samsung flagships, lg flagships, and any other phones out there. Go look threw XDA. I got tired of waiting for root again on the s8 I sold that pos and got a pixel and pixel 2 xl. These phones are far from done. This pixel rooted on stock kernel still kills my old s8. Quad core vs octo core. Pixel quad smashes it.

Oh for sure. Lineageos rocks. Got that on old s5. Oreo on a s5. Unreal. A lot of extra features. Really got that phone for a house phone now and works great.
is possible that they will do the 'same' thing? I mean, they give new update to 'slow down' the old devices, so the current user will feel need to upgrade
even they do, we still have custom rom, which always want make our device running more fast, rite?

Until we stop actually getting updates, I wouldn't worry about it. And we'll probably know before hand when that will be. Plus with Pixel 3 out we're going to get some of the software, whether Google wants us to have it or not. Night Shot with the Pixel 3 camera on my original Pixel.

I doubt that. Probably an issue with the update for us.
Still rocking my OG pixel but tomorrow I am getting a battery replacement. Phone works great but watching the battery level is like watching the gas gauge on a race car... no desire to upgrade as everything else works great.

Until they announce they do drop sailfish Pixel, I won't worry.
Google confirms it's still working on the November update for 2016 Pixels
I have Nexus 5x with 4gigs of RAM as my second phone and it was officially updated up to 8.1. And also it is quite suitable for the pixel2 ROM port with almost all the features working without any problems. I don't see why Pixel 1 can be less capable to be updated in future at least two android versions up
This phone is amazing still now we have offical night shot I am do happy

LG Freaking Pathetic

I would never have believe a company the size of LG would let their smartphone business become so pathetic. My backup phone is an Essential PH-1 which is now two years old, first released May '17, and as of this AM I'm rocking Q Beta3 on a TWO YEAR old phone while LG hasn't even managed to get a supposed FLAGSHIP device (v35), released May '18, to Android Pie.
Who the F******* is running LG????????????????????????????????? What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!
Just unlock the bootloader and let the XDA community handle your business LG 'cause you obviously can't.
lg sucks butt

LG does make great phones -- great hardware, great features. The V30+ (128GB internal memory) especially was the best phone of 2017... They are just terrible at Android OS updates.
On the V30, they HAVE to give Android security updates at least every 3 months for 3 years. And they have pretty much done that.
And they HAVE to give all V30 variants PIE (also in the same agreement), but there was no date requirements on THAT.
V35 didn't have those promises in writing like the V30 did...
