Android N Beta is Here - ZenFone 2 General

............. And we're still begging for Marshmallow!
Yep. It's already available for Nexus devices and general beta release will be available within 24 hours. http://developer.android.com/preview/download.html

We'll get Marshmallow any time now and as for N, our xda developer will handle it .

W O W ! ! !

(sorry for my poor English)
x86-64 android is a dream.
nexus player uses intel z3560 (same as z008) and ROM made by "Google" but it's still 32bit android even N preview....

That's what we get for dealing with a company that isn't generally in the mobile device market like Samsung, Motorola, LG etc.... Our devices are just unlocked phones for use with multiple carriers and there is no real incentive for ASUS to update Firmware like there is for Samsung or another major manufacturer who makes carrier specific phones.

You bought a budget phone that is actually better than most. You know what you were getting for $200 bucks so stop complaining. Let me know when you buy your $800 premium phone. Until then stop the *****ing. Thank you good night

I'm honestly not satisfied with mine.
I have to resort to custom rom to fix my STOCK ROM problems, connection drops and horrible RAM management along with apps reloading even when just pressing the recents button. Hell, my LG G2 with 2gb of RAM and on 6.0 doesn't even break a sweat with the same tasks while my Zenfone 2 does even though the Zenfone 2 scores higher on benchmarks,
Custom Roms have made this phone more than usable but it shouldn't be that way, Asus's software should of been able to provide me with the necessary fixes and such that it needed.

Exactly! I have zero issues with mine other than the battery drain issue but that's a Lollipop issue. Always has been.

Makes me wonder why Samsung is just as slow as ASUS with software updates...
The actual list of devices actually released globally with android M is still very low. It is not an ASUS problem specifically.

Indeed they update quiet often.
But for me it's not compareable due to the many changes Xiaomi does. And even MiUi 7 is based on Android 5.1.1... released 5 Months ago...

Besides the point as to how much I paid for my phones.
And who are these other people? I only mentioned MY usage between my LG G2 (from 2013) and Zenfone 2.
The fact is that, the Zenfone 2 scores higher in benchmarks meaning that it should outperform my LG G2 in performance which is not doing which is a problem. It will stutter in opening Chrome and using chrome while it completely smooth on the G2.
My next points were the issues I have with cellular connection and memory management. This is just poor on the stock rom, my connection drops every time and memory is filled at startup and if I use the startup manager I won't get my notifications, Now, on the custom roms, these two issues are fixed meaning that Asus could of fixed them themselves and made me have to resort to other means of getting these issues fixed. (I don't mind using custom roms as they are normally listening to people). That is not how a product should be, it should have been fixed on their stock software and not other software.
And if you have it that it is my cellular problem, then that is false because my other 3 phones have no problem in keeping the signal.

NO issues with ZF2 with CM12.1 and CM13, just minor beta problems that's all. We should be thankful to devs who made this possible, First when I saw the Bootloader hack I was excited, to my luck CM12.1 and CM13 made even custom kernels plus multiboot also, It's almost a nexus experience isn't it ? And N's only for Nexuses, they have the src, binaries and OTAs, that will never make to the normal devices....Even making the CM properly work took enough time with src that was available with 5.0.x releases for our phones, I think we should worry more about the 64Bit MM ASUS release

Soon ? Imho 6 up to 9 Months with an major update.
Xiaomi is one of the best brands regarding updates and longtime support. But there is nothing compareable at the moment. And there won't. People aren't demanding, so why should there be development? There are enough users which doesn't bother. Or buy an new device after 24 months.
N for ZF2 ?

Biggest Android Problem ? For How long support will last for Samsung S3 ?

Friends.
Android V5 is near launch in a month or two. So then Android V4 will be old.
Same samsung will launch new S4 with few more months waiting.
Update for s3 then will take even more time to come.
This procedure is going on & on with many bloatwares given by Samsung & also by other companies.
I love samsung phones & Use their phone, But support or poor support is biggest hurdel in buying s3 this time.
I am in serious confusion seeing future of S3.
It will get the update.
SGS got its update, SGS2 got its update, SGS3 will get its update.
Updates DO matter but the update plan for android 4 has been a disaster for ALL manufacturers except LG which we shouldn't even talk about as LG is the biggest joke on the android front. Even the nexus line is a failure. I almost got the nexus S a year ago just because of the whole dedicated concept but now I'm glad I didn't. I don't even think the nexus S will get android 5.
Samsung and HTC are those that I feel is the least slow with updates but still none of them will update their first flagships (SGS1 and DHD) even if they without a doubt can run vanilla ICS great. I thought Sony Ericsson learnt their lesson but apparently not as their flagship this year runs GB and that is laughable.
The only "comfort" in all this is that it's the same for all brands.

This cycle will repeat every year. If you want fast updates get nexus or you can flash roms on the sgs3 to get latest software. If you want latest hardware keep changing phones.
Also what support you are referring to? Why do you need support from useless samsung or any other manufacturer in that matter? XDA is your best support forum and you need manufacturer support only in case of hardware defect and need a warranty replacement or repair

Rumor has it Samsung, HTC, etc have early access to Jellybean in order to make their Nexii. Previously everyone besides Samsung only had access when it was released.
Whether or not this affects the update schedule remains to be seen. If it doesn't, you can either expect early-mid 2013 for the update, or flash it yourself (no company, not even some ideal hypothetical, can compete with homebrew speed).

Android 5 or 4.1 will more then likely come in December just like ics and gingerbread before that. If this is true, this gives you 5 to 6 more months with ics and I doubt the s3 will be as old as you are thinking; sure better devices can come to the market in the next 6 months but let's be real, the s3 will be able to do everything for the next year to a year and a half just fine. I've been with the HTC inspire and this thing is 2 years old yet I rarely have any lag considering I use this for everything including gaming.

Have perfect solution for u, don't by the SGS 3 and keep waiting for the perfect one, I have a Gnex and very much doubt that it will have Jelly Bean in a month or two or three , maybe more like 5 months and in the smartphone age that is like a year. Or go get a phone named after a fruit. See no one will get Jelly Bean before it makes it's debut on the next Gnex and thats just the way the cookie crumbles. Thank the fruity company for making the latest version the "best " one, at least with Samsung you get more from the next version then just S voice as they did with the 4S and a bit more power.
If you rooted, you won't bother whether Samsung update on time or not because you have everything the best XDA can offer you. If you are not rooted, obviously you are not software geek, why bother whether your GS3 running ICS, Jellybean, Gingerbread or any other version? Everything is a big problem to human if he or she want to think that way.

having a nexus phone doesn't guarantee you getting updates in the future. look at N1. and NS got it's first update pulled fast and then it took several months before a new ICS update came. That's why I don't care about the nexus line. And I think that the SGS3 will be a phone that feels fresh longer than any phone before, even with android 4.
ye, even i was thinking about that problem but then i just thought that if android 5 comes out then i will use the customised rom
Custom rom/buy new phone.
Ive had enough of waiting for retarded companies to update things.
Motorola milestone - 6 months late, not fully functional (GB)
LG optimus 3d - not available till september 2012 (at the earliest), sold with the promise of prompt ics update, instead waiting more than a whole year.
Never waiting for an update again. Just gonna buy the new phones.

They messed up on the Dec update and probably had to redo. Unfortunately, company bureaucracy works much more slowly than we do, and a new update cycle can take 3-5 months. This is true for any company that offers warranties - they have to break as little as they can.
Had they not messed it up, however, NS could have had its upgrade hella quickly.
Don't want to deal with company bureaucracy? Flash homebrew (NS certainly had them much, much more quickly). Otherwise there's still no better option.
s3 will get official JB update and may be cm11 or cm12 for the other version of androids

No Oxygen OS tomorrow
90 days after Lollipop release, we will have CM12S out  ha NOT.
This sucks, but going on 5 months now, and still no official Lollipop for the OnePlus One. 5 freaking months already, and no release yet
The most annoying thing is that I moved from Samsung 'cause updates there take ages... Now they have Lollipop before us... Unbelievable....
We've been tricked! Lol we get what we pay for. Were paying low price for a high end device so dont expect on time releases.

It's a business decision. If it makes sense revenue wise to get updates to users earlier then that is what is expect.
To be fair most companies slip up here.
And it's not hard to get cm12 but I agree that an official release would be nicer.
I'm still excited about both options they are going to provide.

True. Samsung sucks on updates.
Having said that, the only thing I miss from lollipop on my tablet is the smart clip feature. Almost everything else is available through third party app, root and Xposed. It's still one of the greatest tablets on the market. Which is the good thing about Samsung - the hardware is majorly future proof.
I wish they'd update the spen and snote features independent of system updates. Would make life so much easier.

If you are unsatisfied, then say something to them. Doing so on here won't help anyone. I have lollipop on my 607T and wish I never downloaded it, as I didn't have issues with the Bluetooth audio skipping. Lollipop may be a better OS overall, but it still comes with bugs even though it is 5.1.1

nexus (singular), nexi (plural)
Samsung has way too many devices out and therefore does only support the ones that have the biggest impact. Though I like to see at least 5.1.1 officially supported I feel it is wishful thinking and also made me turn my back on Samsung all together and I will enjoy the rest of it's life with a community ROM. (Although I did notice the developer just announcing he is stopping). It does run fine with 4 4.2 as well so 18 more months and I will allow myself a better supported tablet
I love this tablet, it is great in pretty much every aspect, except internal memory. I wished it could've been available in 64 and 128 GB variants, but it is what it is.
UPDATES though is the point where Samsung sucks. I'm running Marshmallow already on my Nexus 7 tablet (it's great by the way, smoother and faster than Lollipop) and only about to get Lollipop on this tablet. What the F... Samsung?!
I think it would be great to get Marshmallow to this tablet but I have a gut feeling that it is never going to happen

Yes it will, when pigs fly square circles around my living room....
But seriously, this tablet is now 2 years old(close enough), the agreement was to keep updated for 18 months... Be thankful we got 5.1.1 and not the less desirable 5.0 with its memory leaks and other problems...

Android N - Zenfone 2 ?

With Intel dropping the Atom chips and all x86 chipsets, Does anyone know if Android N will be compatible with x86 platform? I do believe we can't rely on Asus to deliver updates since Marshmallow hasnt been officially released to Zenfone 2 devices more than a year after it was first released. Will there be a CM14 for Intel chipsets devices? Any thoughts?
Cheers.

To be very truthful
No..it will never happen.
MM Beta stock on my zen2 4GB ram version , 1.75 GB and upwards of ram is used starting from clean install.
Heaven knows how far that would work on 2gb versions.
I think this is very hard for the development team and probably the reason why the delay to MM.
CM however , have achieved the equivalent with just over 1GB ram used.
Leave it to the CM team

Mine is doing good, battery is holding up way better than any of my three previous phones (all iphones), which all seriously lost capacity after about a year. I am thinking of passing my 550 on to my daughter to replace her ZF5, which has a broken screen. ZF3 series seems over priced so considering next option at the moment - maybe a Xiaomi or a Vernee Apollo Lite, or maybe spend a bit more for a OnePlus 3 or Axon 7...

Once the 6.x gets out of beta or the Zoom kernel blobs gets merged, we should all switch to Cyanogen since those 3-5 guys cared way more than Asus. For such projects just like Linux, more users= more tests, feedback and hopefully more donations.
As a person who knew Asus since their Pentium 2 motherboards, I lost all my trust and respect to them as a company. Besides build quality, their strength had always been timely BIOS updates, good drivers. They forgot what made them stand out from rest of OEM crowd.

Android N Officially Out for Nexus devices.
zenfone 2 N, no never. Get over it, it works fine on android 5. You just want it cause you can't have it.
Actually, users deserve timely major OS upgrades, Microsoft can upgrade Windows XP to Windows 10 for free. It is OEM companies like Asus with their unneeded, childish and performance killing modifications who keeps these devices backwards. They even put a freaking antivirus from a _very_ questionable Chinese company into their ROM giving it system app status, of course compatibility issues will happen. All those stupid themes with that ugly creature, these things have a price and they & we users are paying it with outdated OS.

Why does everyone think they are entitled to free upgrades to a new OS? The phone was sold as a LP phone. There was nothing in the ads or the paperwork that came with my phone that said a free upgrade was included. The only thing Asus HAS to provide is a reasonable warranty. Everything else is a bonus on their part. This sense of entitlement is amazing.
Oh yeah, BTW, that free windows 10 upgrade? It was the first time they ever did anything like that. And it's already over. If you didn't already get it, it's gonna cost you $120 now.

You are right. Its not mandatory but is common sense. And the phone wasn t that cheape.
After all in gsmarena said "upgradable to MM"

Actually, users deserve timely major OS upgrades, Microsoft can upgrade Windows XP to Windows 10 for free. It is OEM companies like Asus with their unneeded, childish and performance killing modifications who keeps these devices backwards. They even put a freaking antivirus from a _very_ questionable Chinese company into their ROM giving it system app status, of course compatibility issues will happen. All those stupid themes with that ugly creature, these things have a price and they & we users are paying it with outdated OS.

I think the more frequent Android release cycle is simply Google pushing hard on OEM's, so that they will eventually give up with their customizations and embrace an unmodified OS.
Maintaining security patches and minor OS updates is already a job on its own, if you factor in a new major release each year, either you hire legions of coders or simply give up with heavy-handed customizations...
Which is by the way what ASUS is facing these days, IMO

OnePlus 3T is being discontinued

The OP3(T) will get Android O i am sure.
I've heard that too,but they need to quit this ****. OEMS and Google drop support on phones 2-3 years. I really have no desire to continue buying new phones. It's not like the OP3T can't handle future updates. The hardware alone is good enough.

They will continue supporting them. They just won't sell them anymore, so don't worry about updates

I doubt they will, look at how the OP2 has had no updates, the same will happen with the OP3.

The OP2 was a troubled device, the 3(T) is not.

That's no reason to stop support, in fact that's a reason to have more support! I expect support for the 3 and 3T to be stopped quite quickly.

Today, the company sent a clarification specific to the Indian market. In this update, OnePlus has clarified that the OnePlus 3T will continue to be available in India until "later this year".

What happens when they run out of stock, and someone has a claim through the extended warranty?

This is comforting to hear. I'll keep my 3T then.

free upgrade would be my guess.
idk why people are so upset about this. Ur phone still works right? ur on xda right? there will always be development for your phone until it becomes so old that no one wants to use it. Seeing people on OnePlus' facebook page complaining that there is no more support for OP2 is ridiculous. Its old. 2 years is very old in the tech world. Tech is survival of the fittest as well. If the OEM decides that a device is not worth it to support, most likely because not many people are on the OP2 anyway, then thats their choice. you've got nougat in one of the ROMs on xda if u want it that badly. Most major android updates like N and O dont add much anyways. I havent noticed my user experience change at all with android N from M on the 3t. the only nougat feature i use is the double tap recents to swap apps really fast, but if memory serves its a stock OOS shortcut. No matter what, there will always be people whom will complain, and those whom are never happy. Upgrade or dont. Dont come from the OP2 forums to complain on the 3/3t forums. besides, if you like your phone, why not upgrade it? Oneplus phones hold their value very well. Sell it and upgrade it. The 5 looks like it will be a great option to upgrade to.
Where is he issue? Unlike the heavily modified systems from e.g. Samsung, OnePlus has a relatively unmodified base. If they are sane, they fork the main code base for new devices, thus making it easy to keep a base and just have different drivers/basebands for different hardware used. Unless they want to drop support, it should be possible to support at least the 3(T) for years to come.
Nobody is forced to upgrade, the 3(T) is an excellent device. Plus open bootloader etc.
damn y'all trippin the op3t will at least be supported for one more year or so, plus we have great devs

Out of stock doesn't mean discontinued support.
Obviously they want to sell the remaining stock before putting out op5.
I see nothing wrong there.
What if I want to replace my battery after a year ? Do I need to resort to buying some non OEM battery ?

There will always be some spare parts for replace. Any company does this, you can ask the same thing for other brands after a new one comes out too. Beside that, I don't think you need a battery replacemente after 1 year, except for defective parts. If warranty is over and there are no official parts available, yes you go non oem.
If they:
• Release camera blobs
• Fixing their faulty Camera2 API implementation
Then they can also stop supporting the device. Maybe rude, but those are the only things I want to have, before they close the doors. Hopefully, they'll at least release a fix for the Camera2 API with the next final OOS and then... yeah .
Oh no! I need a hug.
