[Oreo] S7 Active Android Oreo Looks More Like S8 - Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Guides, News, & Discussio

The new Android Oreo OTA firmware looks more like the galaxy S8 theme, without any modding needed, apart from installing the zip file!
the zip file is found on the below website
[Must be on baseband ending in BRB5, check out my other post for instructions how to get to that version...]
https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/gKs4xzhRE/OTA/Oreo/SS-G891AUCU2BRB5-to-U2CRC7-UP.zip
Attatched below are pictures of the new Oreo update, which I installed on my S7 Active, and by the way, the update has not crashed at all. [It did crash once, but that was due to me using the phone in direct sunlight, which may have caused it to overheat, but thats probably a good thing, that it didn't overheat till death]
i have gone into the home screen settings, and disabled the apps button in the bottom right, so i can swipe to view my apps. by default , there are no s8 wallpapers, but i will include the wallpaper i used below. enjoy!

heres the wallpapers. think i ran out of attachments up there:

i understand the photo says galaxy s7 under phone name. this is not officially released yet, so for some odd reason, the default name is galaxy s7 rather than galaxy s7 active.

As mentioned above, how's the battery life and stability so far? I haven't got my device rooted or anything, how would I go about updating to OREO, should Iflash the file through ODIN? Do I need to be on a specific version of Nougat before upgrading?
Thanks

Before upgrading you need the build number G891AUCU2BRB5, then you have to flash the Oreo rom using stock recovery and adb sideload.

How well does it run on your phone?

I'd like to know about performance issues with Oreo on the S7 active. There is an article that says there's a noticeable slowdown and some glitches with the camera. Are these isolated glitches or does anyone upgrading to Oreo find the same thing?

hey... with the "swipe to unlock" on oreo does it still appear after you set a timer too keep your phone unlocked during activity?
one og my gripes with Nogat is the swipe to unlock never goes away....

Hey Bro.
I running android 6.0 beta but no new update for me ...
How update tu android 6.01
Just came to my phone as well. Downloading it now.
It would be great if someone could upload the rom if a dev could somehow use it to distribute it to the rest or maybe a system dump
It works, with a small starting issue.
Edge features are great. News (Yahoo only, can't seem to be able to change it) people, tasks, frequently used apps, stocks, tools (compass, ruler, flashlight), Twitter feed, sports scores (again Yahoo) Internet bookmarks etc.
Most everything can be customized and changed to suit your needs. One useful feature is locations and what you want the phone to do when you reach that location. I set mine to turn off wifi and BT and put it in vibrate when I reach work. I know, these things have been around for a long time but it's nice to have them in the Edge screen.
After the update was applied I was stuck on 2G for a while. Turning mobile networks off/on, swapping APNs and turning on/off roaming didn't help. I then opted to go for Automatic 3G/2G in network selection, which got me on 3G, then I switched back to Automatic LTE/3G/2G which got me back on LTE. I did not reboot, which may have fixed the issue. Just a headsup... I'm on ATT.
Smart Manager is now in Settings.
Not sure of other features... will dig some more, and of course test the battery life.
Had the 2G issue but rebooted it updated all fine.
Loving the edge features glad to see Samsung wake up and really introduce a killer feature. Now they need to keep up support, add even more cards and advertise the feature. Location feature is cool as is the compass although needs a calibration at each use.
Agenda card is awesome everything for the day and one click brings up the details.
Contact tab finally a direct call option plus lots of other options.
Only about 350MB download. OTA, its an awesome update 6.0.1 and January security patch.
is the lag still present any where on the UIs animations ?
Got the update zip for my 925F from the "/data/fota" folder.
Here is the link to the update: MEGA
Also I've managed to get the new sboot from the zip and pack it with the Tar-tool to the tar.md5 file in case it's needed for rooting.
Here is the link to the new bootloader: MEGA
Edit: changed the bootloader tar.md5, somehow md5 did not match on previous one. Sorry about that.
Link to the new one: MEGA
Battery notably better with heavy use, playing with app most the day.
I don't notice the lag but then I turn animations right down

If you mean the new bootloader, flash it with BL button.
As for the update.zip, it's not for the Odin but for the stock recovery.

i guess you may want to place the .zip file in data/fota folder and then try restarting phone, restarting into stock recovery or restarting to upload mode for SW updates.
good luck !

Edge panel crashing after updating to Android 6.0.1

Hello to all,
I have an issue with my S6 edge after updating it to Android 6.0.1.
All is working fine except an edge (side) panel. When I slide it to people edge it's ok, but when sliding to app edge I get notification that "application edge screen was closed". Restart opens it again but still is crashing the same way.
Already contacted Samsung - had to factory reset. That didn't help. Told me to contact service for further repairs.
Already wiped device in recovery mode - didn't help.
Already changed firmware by Odin to BTU (I'm polish) - didn't help
Already changed firmaware to XEO again - didn't help
Already changed firmware using 4 files (pit too) XEO - didn't help.
Can anyone help to resolve this issue?
What ROM are you currently on? Are you rooted? Do you use Titanium Backup or similar?
I ask because I once had the exact same problem. I'd accidentally frozen "Apps Edge"
in Titanium?
Otherwise, see if there's an Edge update in Samsung Apps. Or try pushing another Apps Edge apk into your current setup?
I'm having the same issue - it only seems to be the apps edge panel that crashes it. If I remove all the apps from the panel then re-add them it's ok for a while, then later it crashes again. It was fine & I was using it all the time before the last software update!
Phone details:
Samsung S6 Edge SM-G925F
Android 6.0.1 Build MMB29K.G925FXXU3DPDP (not rooted/customised)

How difficult would it be to add a couple lines in your post letting everyone know your phone's exact model,
which custom rom you are currently using and whether or not you have xposed framework installed?
And any other specific details.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Good News Guys >>>>Official T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Android 7.1.1 Nougat update released

Good News Guys >>>>Official T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Android 7.1.1 Nougat update released
We reported recently that the Galaxy J7 might soon receive the Nougat update. The handset was spotted at the Wi-Fi Alliance running a Nougat build. It was a big indication that the company was planning on rolling out the update soon.
T-Mobile has now started rolling out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update for the Galaxy J7. It’s one of the few devices that Samsung has updated straight to version 7.1.1 from Marshmallow.
T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Android 7.1.1 Nougat Update
T-Mobile has started rolling out the Nougat update for the Galaxy J7 over-the-air. However, the company’s support document for this handset is all over the place. It assigns version number Android 6.0.1, Android 7.0 and Android 7.1.1 to one single firmware version, J700TUVU3BQI5.
This is obviously not possible. Clearly, there are clerical issues with the document. That doesn’t mean the T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Android 7.1.1 Nougat update isn’t rolling out. Those who own this handset on T-Mobile will soon receive an update notification if they haven’t already.
This firmware is also available for download from our firmware section where the Android version is accurately mentioned as Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Despite the fact that this update has been released in October, it comes with the August security patch.
Galaxy J7 owners on T-Mobile can either wait for the update to go live in their region or simply download the firmware from our website.
Download 7.1.1 here and happy flashing J700TUVU3BQI5 - Galaxy J7 SM-J700T TMB USA (T-Mobile)

Tmobile received the update from samsung on 8/28. They filled it with their garbage and sent it last thursday, most of us flashed aqf1 stock and got it ota friday morning.i dont see any clerical errors or anything like that at all. And ive been digging through the build for a week. Im running it now. All internation j7 roms flash with this builds kernel, but reboot in the setup wiz, so once we get a good base there will be a ton of ports in this community. Also, we have found, edge screen, blf, high performance mode, and aod hidden but inactive in the phone. This build is something amazing folks.
Btw, sammobile is a useless, slow dinosaur. Updato via playstore is the best source for firmware.

U cannot in any capacity flash a stock firmware with twrp.u have to wipe your whole phone and go to download mode and flash the firmware via odin. Dont forget to unzip the file first so u have the unzipped form of it loaded in the ap slot
Aight I'm chill (no way at all to update without wiping my phone?) Like what if I don't wipe and flash in odin; will that lead to problems?

Which OS is best to use for Rooting G930V Galaxy S7?

I am getting Galaxy S7.
So it will be totally new phone. This means that I intend to factory reset and no worries about data loss, new phone. This should make the question easier to answer.
I considered:
Keeping Marshmallow
Updating to Nougat
Updating to new Oreo which is just released to S7
Requirements:
Maximum compatibility with permanent root with no issues
Maximum compatibility with xposed
Maximum compatibility with various xposed modules
Ability to have BLACK everything I want absolutely no white menus anywhere.
I am coming from Kitkat. If I had my way I would keep KitKat, unfortunately KitKat 4.4.2 is not available for S7.
One only real benefit I see besides super slowing down my device on the new versions, is that Nougat and up I believe has a blue light filter integrated? It would be super cool because this is an important feature. Currently I use Twilight blue light overlay, but if I could have a native filter (like f.lux for PC) it would hugely improve my user experience.
Maybe I will like newer features, but maybe not. I usually DISABLE tons of stuff including:
Disable fingerprint
Disable updates
Disable face recognize
etc, I don't want any of that invasive junk.
I also don't use Samsung Pay or any other junk.
I like maximum control over my device and I hate white and have to have all menus black. I did learn some newer versions of android OS actually have theming engines included where I can turn everything black, that will be very great for me. White menus physically hurt my eyes especially at night. It's painful to me and causes red eyes. So I must have all black menus.
I don't want any problems especially not audio or gps etc problems and I never want to enable fine location.
So I wondered if you know which is the best OS to use to meet my requirements with best root and xposed compatibility and no problems. Marshmallow, Nougat, or Oreo and what version?
Additionally, I am also open to any recommended custom ROM, if you have any suggestion.
In further reading of threads I am getting worried. About to cancel my order and get refunded and give up on getting an S7 and just keeping my S5.
The reason I'm getting worried is because I am reading that US versions with Snapdragon processor G930V has a locked bootloader. I am unclear if I can root or not.
Advice would be helpful as I only just ordered and I am about to click cancel order.

From what I have read, you can root a G930V on Marshmallow and Nougat but not on the new Oreo build.
This guide is for Marshmallow:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
And I believe this one is for Nougat:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/how-to/how-rooted-s7-nougatand-fixed-lag-t3576393
But no TWRP or typical custom recoveries. Only flashfire and modified stock ROMs. I think I read that Xposed worked on Marshmallow but not Nougat. Not certain on that though.

Well my S5 does have a custom recovery but is on stock rom, got full root when I downgraded to KitKat.
Thanks for letting me know it will probably be the same procedure. I did order it now. Going to try it. Hopefully, it works with full root,
Which OS+root is better, rooted Nougat or rooted Marshmallow (considering potential bugs)?
I think Nougat has a blue light filter built-in, is that right?
It may be a matter of opinion but I am open to hearing your opinions.

Yes got it yesterday. Try connecting to PC and run smart switch. I started downloading but it terminated prematurely. I then found and downloaded the update through OTA.
Nothing for U series, not even a beta >.<
I'm in the UK with a G955FD. The download has now become available. I may not install it as I like the facility to record calls, not possible with 9.0. I might prefer to wait for a custom ROM based on 9.0 with the facility restored.

have you done a factory reset? this is a major update. i would always do one when going up a whole version. most people i have seen including myself and all of my close friends have been amazed at how great the battery is. if you havent done a reset yet there is really no reason to claim it has bad battery. there are so many things that can get messed up with a big ota. if that is how you got it anyway.

I do not understand what you are asking ... I installed the last update and everything works as it is just the version of UI is still 1.0 which I thought might already give 1.1 but this probably won't get S8 +
I upgraded this week and it's been a pain, split screen stopped working so factory reset, about 4 hours after the reset the same happened again ,reset again solved that but now status bar has disappeared, so can only check the battery by swiping down. Just wish I could downgrade ! Leave it a while before upgrading would be my advice.
Can't agree with that. Running latest u1 beta and it is pretty much flawless. daily driver all day.
