[OTA Update] [Oreo] Galaxy S7 Active Update to Android Oreo Guide - Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Guides, News, & Discussio

This Guide is one i wrote in a reply on another forum, I thought more people would see it if i posted it here as well. As usual, if you brick your phone while following this guide, it is your problem, and i take no repsonsibility for any bricked S7 Actives due to this guide. Its not likely, but in the event that it occurs, understand that it's your problem.
There is no s7 active oreo rom in ODIN flashable format available yet, but you can update by flashing nougat, and flashing two ota flashable zip files in stock recovery. If you go to this website, and click the blue download button, you can extract the downloaded file with 7zip, or winrar, and flash the md5 files in ODIN, and you will then be on stock android nougat. You can then copy this zip file to your phone's external micro sd card, without extracting it, and use stock recovery mode (turn off, then volume up + home + power) to "apply update from sd card", or if you don't have a micro sd card, click "apply update from adb" and look up "how to use adb sideload" on google. Once it's done updating, do the same thing with this zip file, using stock recovery and "apply update from sd card" or using "apply update from ADB", and you will be on android 8.0 oreo. you can always use the first file you downloaded to go back to stock nougat if you don't like oreo, but it's working great for me! Enjoy android Oreo on your S7 Active, hopefully we will see a root soon, as the nougat root just bricks my phone while it is on oreo. I do not recommend using a newer oreo OTA zip instead of the one i posted, as some of the other ones flash a newer bootloader, thus preventing a downgrade back to nougat in the event something catastrophic happens.

Yay! Had trouble with the download stopping and varying speed download (mostly slow) but now that I've got it all went as normal.
Did seem to take a little longer than normal on the factory recovery updates but no problems to report there.
Up and running now but I've yet to play with it more than opening a few apps and testing features.
Now we need an unlocked bootloader!!! I miss having custom ROMs, debloat, and a real firewall...
Maybe someday. Maybe.

Hello

Do I need to install all the files that appear in the link you gave?
Sorry about my English and sorry for the questions of a novice

I don't know what Jacob says about your doubt, but probably you can downgrade the build to the BQD4 and then install the updates until the BRB5. I did something similar, I downgrade the build BQF2 to BQD4 and then I installed the updates (the last was the build BRB5) to be able to install android oreo (build CRC7).

Hi Jacob, I have a doubt, do you have any problem with the HRM sensor? I can't use it. I could use it with nougat but with oreo it doesn't work (even if I test it in the *#0*# the sensor doesn't work). Thank you!!

Bro, I’m sorry, I can’t help, I accidentally bricked my s7 active last month, and it was hard bricked, I accidentally flashed the wrong boot loader, so I had to return it and I know how people feel about this, but there was a great deal on an iPhone 6s :/

Haha. I'm thinking about getting a 6S as well. How's the standby battery life compared to the S7 Active?

Yeah, I can make it last a day, I got mine used, so my battery has 85% of its original health, I would think one with a newer battery in it would last longer, especially since this one lasts the whole day.... if you find one cheap, I recommend, but only the 6s/6s plus, not the 6/6 plus

Thanks, works great
Thanks so much, I was able to update my phone that has been off of any network for over a year. I update my S7 Active from BQH1 all the way through to CRD4, took a while having to manually update each OTA file. 6 updates later and I am running Android 8, so far no issues, no sim atm so can not tell if all functions are good, but seems to be so. Been 24 hours since and have not had a single issue. Even got it network unlocked and am running a T-Mobile sim, works like a charm.

When I try to install the BRA7 to BRB5 update, my phone gives this error.
Could someone that knows more than me interpret this for me and tell me what I need to do?

Trying to flash SM-G891A_G891AUCS2BRA7_USA_ATT_v7.0, but I keep getting a "md5 error! Binary is invalid" when trying to load the AP file in Odin3 v3.13. Is this legit?

what build are you on currently?

I am currently having this issue trying to update from S3BRD1 to U3CRE7. I was running CRD4 but downgraded so I could go up to CRE build, but no luck. Were you able to figure out what is causing this issue?

I gave up on trying to apply the CRE7 update and went ahead and settled with the CRE5 and it loaded just fine. Might have been a corrupt file, downloaded it 3 times. :silly:

Just a thought, they recently uploaded a stock U3BRD1, which brings the bootloader to the newest (no root possible), then just OTA update from there.

Successfully flashed CRC7 on my S7 Active (I'm in Canada and can't get OTA updates).
However my Samsung Pay can no longer register my Canadian credit cards (it was working fine on Nougat build BRB5). Anyone in a similar situation?

Peace
Where can I find the file SS-G891AUCU2BQF2-to-S2BQG1-UP.zip

Thanks for the note, but either there is an issue with the update or the file got corrupted on the download. I flashed it and emui went through the update process, rebooted and then said my SD card was corrupt and to format it.
I have a 128GB card full of music TBU and saved ROMs that I did not want to lose. Went back via TWRP to previous and no damaged SD card and all is well.
Might have been the file was corrupted but just be caareful and always backup before you make any changes.
So nice of their support site to be down...

Are there any new features???
I am currently on custom ROM and would like to know the answers to these questions to see if it's worth it to go back to stock rom
Hi, is there a full firmware package for this new version? Tried to upgrade and got soft-bricked and I don't know if it's safe to flash the full B331 package.
[EDiT]
Flashed the full B331, booted and applied the B351 update by powering off and pressing Vol+ & Vol -. After booting it still says B331 and my WiFi is dead.

So did anyone ever take a wack at this? I've done a lot of googling and haven't been able to find anything official off the support site about this update so I was wondering if it was legit or not? I know how the update zip suppose to work and how to make it work. Just wondering if anyone used this.

What he said.
I'm hoping it's nothing more than a VoLTE update that LOS maintainers warn against anyway, if there's actually no one to further explain what it is
received this B351 update over B331, also did factory reset, GUI lag seems gone, not noticing new feature
my kiwi-L24 got re-flashed today, it is weird that this B351 update is no longer available from B331's update check
searched on internet, there is news about "honor 5c" getting a B351 nougat update
This came up on one of the 5X's that I have. Updated and forgot to put back stock recovery. Don't be like me and forget to do that. Now it won't work properly and I can't get to start any apps to try and fix it. I can put back TWRP and wipe it, but I don't want to lose my data. I also have that problem now where it keeps telling that the SD card is corrupted. I backed up the data and scrubbed the card in the phone but it keeps coming back with the same thing.
If someone did an actual successful update properly (with stock recovery) then please update and say if everything is working. If not, I'm going to have to find some way to backup the data and then scrub it.
*EDIT*
I believe something like this happened to me before. I was on B151 and went to B331 with TWRP installed by accident. What happened was that the OS was still running EMUI 3.1 but the build was saying B331. After fighting with it (and community support) I managed to get it to B331 fully and EMUI 4.0 - since then and a few custom ROMs I'm back on B151 EMUI 3.1 due to stability. Games and some apps just didn't work on the new one. The second phone was on B331 fully though - then I made the same mistake and it went to B351. This time though, the phone seems screwed. No apps will load. I can get into settings and the file manager, but no Titanium Backup and no Flashify. Going to put back TWRP and try to flash GAPPS and see if it will help me get into Play Store. From there I'll try to reinstall Flashify and flash the ZIP of the update. Will post back once done.
*EDIT*
Well that didn't work. Even after going back and trying to root the device again - then checking the option for it to not detect the dirty flash - still didn't work. Kept complaining that stock apps are already present.
I'm going to try and get some files off the device, but keep having issues. Not sure why. May just have to scrub. Will update again.
*EDIT*
With TWRP on I used "ADB PULL" to get certain files from the root system which I couldn't access otherwise for some reason. Then copied the other things (photos and such) and will now be using the UPDATE.APP to get it working. For this I formatted the SD from within TWRP and created the DLOAD folder (with no caps - so that's dload - but I'm not sure if it matters) and will be copying the UPDATE.APP. Not sure which version yet, because there was some problem with one I had downloaded before. So I need to double-check and re-download.
*EDIT*
So I've successfully flashed the UPDATE.APP from the SD card (same one the phone was claiming is corrupted). Just for reference, here is the file information and hashes.

The file name may be different, but as long as you got the right one you should be OK. If you have issues when copied to an SD card - verify that the file on the SD card has the correct hashes. To make it faster use CRC32. For more surety, use MD5. You can get a tool like WinMD5 to check. It's free.
So now that it's done, I'm going to set it up as a new phone and wait to see if the update comes back on. If it does, I'll get it down and upload the B351 recovery. After that I'll need to remember that I have to put back the stock recovery before running any updates. Flashify FTW.
BTW - during the initial setup after connecting to wireless it came back with the update. Pics to follow.
Files will be uploaded here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzqEmGyNP_v6aTZTZDN6bWo2ZEk
*EDIT*
So the files are uploading to the folder. The screenshot is attached. Had one issue where after the update I couldn't get back into the phone. Had to wipe/factory reset. I've used FASTBOOT BOOT TWRP.IMG to take the backups of the BOOT and RECOVERY. Hopefully one of the gurus can use that and give the IMG files. I'm going to try root and get FLASHIFY to backup the stock recovery and add to the folder.

I don't really like to do double replies, but I guess for ease of finding the info it's better this way. Unless a mod thinks differently and wants to merge all the info.
Google Drive Link With Files
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BzqEmGyNP_v6aTZTZDN6bWo2ZEk
This contains TWRP backups of the recovery and boot images. There's also a file called KIW-L24-B351 which was created with Flashify. I assume you can add the IMG extension to it and flash as needed.
Basically I had this update run on another phone (my wife's) and it messed with the phone due to the recovery being TWRP and not stock. My fault - forgot to do that before handing the phone back to her. I believe it happened to me before but it never messed up the phone this way. Nothing would work except core apps like settings and the stock file manager. The Play Store wouldn't even open.
Anyways - back to factory with UPDATE.APP then run the automatic update from an OTA update on wireless, then FASTBOOT BOOT TWRP.IMG and capture the backups. Then flash SuperSU to get root. Then Flashify. Files are uploaded for your convenience.
Warning that during the initial OTA it took a while. And after it was done I couldn't get into the phone with the password. Had to factory wipe/reset again and setup again. Disable passwords just in case I guess. Hope this helps others - have fun.
No major differences. I haven't really used the stock OS6 but some things look a little different. Nothing major. Will see when she's using it if it lags or has improved memory and such. Not sure if I'll be able to test with apps that wouldn't run previously for me, but will see. Tested with TransDrone and it failed. Once SeedBox information is loaded it still crashes. Only happens on OS6 so I'm sticking with OS5 on mine. Does not happen with custom roms however (from what I recall - would have to check back).

Same here.
It had been too many months of the Honor 5X in the closet so i almost lost track what to do but what i did was revert all the way back to Stock ROM (had to flash an extracted/saved Recovery.IMG) and then do the UPDATE.APP from Dload complete and repeat on up to the current B351.
Of course lost Root but when ready can add that back too.
Yes the Honor 5X runs much smoother now than before plus that Battery Drain issue (Remember That?) where we had to dig deep to change 4 to 0 i think, well Battery Life is also greatly improved on mine.

I tried to update as the previous user did using TWRP and got the corrupted SD card message. I then tried to go back to stock ROM. Went into bootloop.
Been having a hell of a time getting anything to work properly since.

[SOLVED] Error installing recent OTA update, anyone help or provide insight?

Went to update "YB1-X90L_170420" and as I have been normally doing I removed root, ran the update, and all was well. It installed fine and worked no problem.
I was then prompted for update "YB1-X90F_USR_S000408_1704201342_WW06_BP_ROW_TO_YB1_X90F_USR_S000426_1705080316_WW06_BP_ROW" So I started the download and when the device reboots it then fails with this string, note the error about the "build fingerprint"

E:Error in @/cache/recovery/block.map

I foolishly after some googling and not finding enough info opened a chat with Lenovo. The rep asked what the error was and once I showed it said that was just related to my fingerprint scanner .... really?!?!? I knew the chat was a dead spot at this point but tried to state this device has no fingerprint reader, etc.. and so on. Hope they could really tell me what the error was. Anyway the rep told me to 'ignore' the update and just carry on since my device is actually working. They then went on to state they are hardware only on the chat session, which the Lenovo site says nothing about that. They then also told me to take this up with Google as they make Android not Lenovo. So much for warranty helping anything but possibly replacing a physically broken device. Their techs are useless, seriously.
So anywho, as you see in the error the update is trying to apply but looks for "Lenovo/yeti_10_row_wifi" and is finding somewhere (in the update or my device?) "Lenovo/yeti_10_row", notice the missing "wifi" on the end of that. My 'build.prop' and other system files are untouched. I even tried resetting the device. Which after the reset I was able to once again install the "YB1-X90L_170420" update but this next update "YB1-X90F_USR_S000408_1704201342_WW06_BP_ROW_TO_YB1_X90F_USR_S000426_1705080316_WW06_BP_ROW" fails again on that same fingerprint mismatch.
Any clue what I should be looking for here? Has anyone else installed that update successfully?
Will anyone here supply me with the original (or as close as original) clean stock ROM without paying for it? I know I should have backed up with TWRP before I started doing updates, and this may well be my issue, but I didn't and not I can only restore back to an already rooted backup. Though I assume doing a reset of that rooted restore is considered clean (no root or 3rd party anything)?
thanks for any help or ideas!

Went to update "YB1-X90L_170420" and as I have been normally doing I removed root, ran the update, and all was well. It installed fine and worked no problem.
I was then prompted for update "YB1-X90F_USR_S000408_1704201342_WW06_BP_ROW_TO_YB1_X90F_USR_S000426_1705080316_WW06_BP_ROW" So I started the download and it the device reboots then fails with this string, note the error about the "build fingerprint"

From what i recall the fingerprint is what is shown in the buildprop. You could try editing this but i would tread carefully if its just a minor update as it may justmess up your system if there are other mismatches during the update process.
Lenovo technical support is a complete joke, you get much better help here. Lol
Sent from my F5121 using Tapatalk
Nope every line of my build.prop, where listed, has the proper "Lenovo/yeti_10_row_wifi" that the update claims is wrong. I personally think it is this update itself but no confirmation from other users if the update
"YB1-X90F_USR_S000408_1704201342_WW06_BP_ROW_TO_YB1_X90 F_USR_S000426_1705080316_WW06_BP_ROW"
has installed for them yet.
And I certainly knew how far I was *not* going to get with Lenovo but figured it couldn't hurt. I was really trying to get a stock ROM download from them or anywhere. I would love to just revert this to how it was out of the box and start over.
Well for reference I think I finally realize what is causing this (unconfirmed, but sounds feasible).
I did at one time try the "YB1-X90L_USR_S000155_1609272258_WW06_BP_ROW" noted in another thread here from Easy firmware. I figured since it was a free download and others have done it, what could it hurt? lol (I think I know now). Anyway I forget what it was at the time but something with that rom just wasn't right for me and I decided to restore back to my TWRP backup I had made. I'm assuming my backup doesn't overwrite something that "L" version rom did and leaves some residue that reports itself as the "L" model now?
Anyway that is the only thing to me that makes sense to me that could be happening. Of course I have no original stock rom with IMG files to flash again to fix this. :/
Can anyone here confirm Easy Firmware is safe to use? Can anyone confirm their YB1-X90F rom is really that models rom?

Hi,
I registered for the free account. Had to email there support team to get it activate as there were problems their end. The 90F firmwares were not in the free tier so I paid the $15 through paypal to be safe, and got the 90F firmware fine. It was old and I had to run a lot of updates to get it up to date. But it got everything back to how it should be.
I blame Lenovo that we have to jump through theese hoops, but the files are legit.

Thanks for that confirmation! I did end up getting a registered account ($15) used Paypal and all looked good. I ended up downloading two versions of firmware. Initially I thought I would start with the oldest knowing many updates awaited but really wanted to be sure in erasing all my previous steps just in case it didn't work or the same thing happened again.
Used "YB1-X90F_USR_S000036_1607280616_WW6_BP_ROW-flashfiles.zip" from Easy Firmware. I opted to follow the included "installer.cmd" but did not do the "unlock" or "lock" as I already was unlocked of course and did not want to lock it again. When it completed I first noted my Halo keyboard not working and things were in Chinese here and there. This post resolved both items (thanks vimalbhimani!). Pretty sure that was because I formatted all the various partitions including "country", duh. Sadly however this version was showing no further OTA updates were available at all. Maybe Lenovo has deleted some of the really old OTA downloads and they are no longer available? Not sure.
I then installed the most recent rom "YB1-X90F_USR_S000196_1611040312_WW06_BP_ROW-flashfiles.zip". This time I did not format and only flashed this newer roms boot, bootloader, factory, recovery, and system images. After the system was backup everything was in great shape and updates were available. I made a TWRP backup straight away. Then I let the first and second updates listed below download and install via OTA and had no issues. The final two I opted to save time and installed using the standard recovery from my SD card after I downloaded them from my PC. Here are direct links to those if anyone wants them and they are in order of install (descending) based on already having "YB1-X90F_USR_S000196_161104"

All updates went great and all is well at this point. Made another TWRP backup and I plan to root again now and see if any upcoming updates later have some issue?
I just wanted to report back here if anyone was interested that I unrooted, updated the June OTA update, and was able to root again without issue.
i got the same error message and now i'm stuck. I cant install any updates and so i bought a account from easy-firmware to get the firmware ... the firmware: YB1-X90F_USR_S000036_1607280616_WW6_BP_ROW-flashfiles.zip
doesnt not work with twrp or the stock recovery... it tells me "zip file is corupt"

You cannot flash the ZIP file with TWRP or stock recovery. You have to unzip the file and then flash each IMG file that you need manually while in fastboot mode (there are seven of them).
**** IF YOU FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS IT IS NO ONES FAULT BUT YOUR OWN IF IT SCREWS UP SOMETHING!!! ****
**** WILL TRY TO HELP PROVIDE INFO IF I CAN BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE ANYTHING. ALSO THIS ERASE ALL YOUR DATA ****
First be aware as noted in the previous post above that I tried using "YB1-X90F_USR_S000036_1607280616_WW6_BP_ROW-flashfiles.zip" intially and it worked fine to get me back up and running but once I was done no new OTA updates were showing at all. No clue why so I ended up doing it again but used the ROM named "YB1-X90F_USR_S000196_1611040312_WW06_BP_ROW-flashfiles.zip". Also note I had erased my "country" partition and flashed "country.img" which requires the info posted by vimalbhimani again linked above in my previous post. It has to be used to correct for your country, no biggie at all and worked fine for myself.
1) Unzip the ROM you downloaded to a folder on your PC
2) From command prompt go to that folder
3) Make sure from the command prompt that ADB and fastboot commands are working properly
4) Put your tablet in fastboot mode ("adb reboot bootloader")
(these next commands are directly from the "install.cmd" included with the ROM from EasyFW, I just opted to run them manually one at a time in order and I omitted the unlock and lock commands)
fastboot flash gpt gpt.bin
fastboot erase misc
fastboot erase persistent
fastboot erase frp
fastboot erase metadata
fastboot format config
fastboot format country
fastboot format cache
fastboot format data
fastboot format factory
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash config config.img
fastboot flash country country.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader
fastboot flash oemvars bootloader_policy-oemvars.txt
fastboot continue
That's it. Minus the Intel error code 03 for being unlocked, it should be a normal out of the box setup when it boots back up into Android.
good luck!
People that are looking for the YB1-X90F_USR_S000196_1611040312_WW06_BP_ROW-flashfiles.zip may want to take a look at this post.
In contrast to my experiences with devices made by other OEMs, it seems like the files can directly be used for downgrading the Yoga Book if you're currently using a newer version.

A2017G - Updates don't appear to be working. Still stuck on 6.0.1.

Hi there! I want to upgrade from android 6.0.1 to a newer, preferably the latest, version of android. I believe that is "A2017G-N-B09" as of the time of this post.
I downloaded A2017G-N-B09 (??) from the ZTE site, as linked in raystef66's thread. After putting it in the root of the SD card and running the update process, the phone rebooted as expected and said that the update was finished, but the android version is still showing as "6.0.1" (MiFavor is 4.0). The update shows in the update history but, as far as I know, nothing has changed at all.
After that, I looked around on the forums some more and saw someone mentioning that you might need to have Marshmallow B10+ before jumping into Nougat. So I downloaded MM-B11 from raystef66's thread, but the exact same thing happened.
Am I missing a step? Or am I using the wrong files to update? This guide mentions downloading the firmware (a separate file, apparently) before downloading and installing the update package. Is that what's missing for me?
I spent the last two days, since my new A2017G arrived, searching this forum (and google) for help with my issue, but haven't found any relevant solutions.
Many thanks in advance of any advice and help you might be able to offer me!
edit - I'm in the UK, if that makes any difference.

Can you try to install it again and read what the installation text on the recovery mode says? There's probably an error there.
Otherwise get an SD card, put the zip there, and go to the recovery (turn the phone off, and turn it on while holding volume up and power), then select to update from SD card and select the zip. If it fails or something, you'll have the text there, and you'll be able to write it down or whatever.
Also, what does the phone say on the back? Tell me what's the model as seen on the back. It might be an A2017 instead of an A2017G.

Thanks for the quick reply. The model says A2017G on the back.
I just tried to install through the recovery mode, as suggested. It says, "Sorry, you can't sdcard upgrade".
Is this something I can work around?

For the record, the zip file from ZTE support has an update.zip in it. So once you've downloaded it, extract it and put the update.zip onto your intSD/extSD.
I didn't uploaded the "ready" A2017 N-B09 yet on DownloadCenter.
As for the MM-B11 from Downloadcenter : this is a zip you can use directly. Rename it to update.zip, put on SD and update within settings.
Hope that helps you out.

Yep, that's what I did. Any idea why that didn't work then? I mean, it detected the "update.zip" when I had it on the SD card, and the 'update' appears in the history, but it clearly didn't install.

Strange.
Try to ADB sideload.
Also try to wipe cache in recovery. You'll never know.
Also try to rename to update.up and try again.
But then again, as you said the update was applying but nothing installed is at least weird. And also, when you tried to update through recovery and apply from SD, you couldn't is at least strange.
So try again with above steps.
BTW, where did you buy the phone ?

I got the phone from Gearbest.
I'm trying to figure out how to do all this. I'm brand new to ADB, so I don't really know what I'm doing. I downloaded the android SDK, and the universal ADB drivers. The device is showing up when I type "adb devices" and is responding to the "adb reboot bootloader" command, so it seems like it's set up ok.
So, the next step is to get TWRP on to the phone, right? I'm trying to follow the steps here, under the Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required) section, but it seems to be stalling at the "fastboot oem unlock" command. Just gets stuck at "waiting for device".
Sorry if this is all baby-steps. As I said, I'm really new to this and feel like I'm in a bit over my head. I'm happy to keep learning, though, as long as I'm not in real danger of destroying the phone.
edit - I renamed the zip to "update.up" and couldn't get that to work either. It's not detected in the update section of settings, and I still get the same "Sorry, you can't sdcard upgrade" message.
edit #2 - I tried naming it to "update.up.zip" and it detected it this time, trying to run the update now.

No you dont require TWRP for that.
Put the update.zip in adb folder.
Just type adb reboot recovery ( in ADB) . It boots into your stock recovery. There you can apply adb sideload (dont know the actual text : "apply update from adb").
Check that on your phone. Then phone is waiting to your command.
Then type : adb sideload update.zip (or ota.zip)

Which is what made me think perhaps I needed TWRP on the phone. But, if that's all it should be, then I'm doing something else wrong...
Perhaps a driver is missing/not installed correctly? If that was the case though, how could I check? All the basic adb commands seem to be working fine and the phone is clearly responding to them.

You're doing ok.
When you can see adb devices with your phone's number you're ok.
So, adb devices / adb reboot recovery / adb sideload update.zip
Did you try to rename it to ota.zip ?
Btw, what version of MM are you running ?
Btw2, did you wipe cache/dalvik in recovery too ?
Perhaps you could root/bootloader unlock your phone (but you loose ota readiness ). And apply those system updates or install custom roms.
But again that's up to you.
There are threads about root/unlock your phone when on MM. Just look for it. If help needed just let us know.

Same problem when calling it ota.zip, " cannot read 'ota.zip' ". I'm trying to put A2017G-MM-B11 on there (although ultimately I want to get to A2017G-N-B09 if possible). My phone is on 6.0.1 currently.
Yea, I wiped the cache in recovery. Didn't seem to make any difference.
I'm not against rooting the phone or anything, but it just doesn't really seem necessary for my requirements, afaik.

AFAIK, you're on B11 right? Also security patches are from that date imo. So perhaps download the first nougat B01 and see what happens and report back.
But it remains strange that the nougat b09 is in your update history, right?
If this nougat B01 as a test does not work, you may consider to wipe your phone. First backup though.
Is it possible it was flashed in incorrect order of update and messed up partitionioning a little bit, leaving some data screwed up?

Are you sure you are putting the file where you are in cmd? If you write 'adb sideload o' and hit tab, does the name appear? If not, put the zip on C:/, then write 'cd..' with 2 dots on CMD until you get to C:/, and try again
Usually the problem is that adb will get out of memory or crash because of some random thing. But try that nonetheless
lol.... just check 1 more thing... the zip file you have downloaded should be extracted first... and its normally contains 2 files... one zip and pdf file... and if the that zip files is not name as update.zip then just rename it and copy to your root internal memory... then check updates and install the update... it should be running then.
Sometimes i have this silly mistake as well until i open the zip files and saw another zip file in the downloaded rom and realized it.

If this nougat B01 as a test does not work, you may consider to wipe your phone. First backup though.

Yes, that's what I was concerned about. The very first update i tried to install was N-B09, and everything else has been an older update after that, so maybe it won't overwrite the newer files, or something? Or possibly something else went wrong in the first update, so everything else just wouldn't work because of that?
I'm putting N-B01 onto my SD card right now, so I'll test that, and if it doesn't work I'll wipe the phone and start again. If I do need to wipe the phone, however, which update would you recommend trying first? N-B09? That might confirm if it was just bad luck on the first try, or whatever.

Agreed, that sounds like a possibility to me. I'll probably end up wiping and starting over.

Yes the tab autocomplete works on the "u" of update.zip and "o" of ota.zip, when I tried both. I have to admit, I was quite excited to see your suggestion there, as I thought that would be a really easy way to confirm if something isn't right with adb, but never mind.
I still don't understand why it gives me this error then, though: * cannot read 'update.zip' *.
ramnkc said:
lol.... just check 1 more thing... the zip file you have downloaded should be extracted first... and its normally contains 2 files... one zip and pdf file... and if the that zip files is not name as update.zip then just rename it and copy to your root internal memory... then check updates and install the update... it should be running then.
Sometimes i have this silly mistake as well until i open the zip files and saw another zip file in the downloaded rom and realized it.

Thanks for the suggestion, and yes, I did confirm that I renamed the right zip file. That would have been easy thing to fix though, sadly.
edit - I tried the same adb commands with windows powershell too, and got exactly the same error messages.
What ROM was on it before you flashed B09?
Updating to N-B01 worked! I've no idea why this happened the way it did, nor why adb didn't work for sideloading, but I'm really glad that it finally worked.
The order of events:
1) Installed N-B09 via transfer to SD using the android updater, no difference in android version, but appeared in update history.
2) Installed MM-B11, same as above.
3) Tried various methods of installing MM-B11, including:
- SD transfer
- recovery mode SD update (which the phone wouldn't let me do, saying, "Sorry, you can't sdcard upgrade").
- ADB sideload (which never worked even slightly. I always got the message, * cannot read 'update.zip'/'ota.zip'/'update.up.zip' *)
- Tried the above methods with variously named zip files, including "update, ota, and update.up".
- Tried the above methods, but wiping the cache in between processes.4) Installed N-B01 via transfer to SD using the android updater. This time the process took a lot longer and after rebooting the phone, went through the process of optimizing apps, which it had never done before.
Ok, I think that's everything.
The only theory I can come up with is that: Something (I have no idea what, though) went wrong with the first update attempt and every subsequent attempt to update to an older version didn't work because it didn't want to overwrite newer android version files? That doesn't seem quite right to me, though, as I would assume that whatever is in the update.zip would just overwrite everything as standard, because the assumption would always be that these files are newer than the existing ones.
What would you recommend that I do next? Should I try to push through the latest N update now, then? Has this outcome helped you figure out what the problem was/is?
Whatever the case, I'm happy to finally get an update working. Thanks very much for all your help and suggestions, guys. It was much appreciated!

Which is the patch date? G B09 has the December 1 patch, just wanted to know which one fixes this stuff
Can someone provide a B35 update zip? It's no issue for me to connect to Wi-Fi to install it, but I like to keep offline cached copies of files for recovery purposes, so that I can update even without Internet.
Thanks!
Edit: I have A2017U.
When will the B35 firmware will be available as flashable TWRP zip across a2017 devices?Does it have a improved battery life?

As soon as you make one?
Pretty sure it's available now. Let us know how the battery life is.
I know I asked before, but if someone can post a direct URL link to the B35 update file (whether it be a zip or something else) then it would be much appreciated. I know @DrakenFX released a system and bootstack zip, but I would rather use official files. I can't save an offline copy of the file since I'm not currently rooted, I suspect it is stored in the /cache partition. The file size is close to 700MB. I just want a copy for offline use. Maybe someone with root can capture a copy of the file after it has downloaded, but before the phone reboots to apply it. Or maybe the URL can be sniffed with WireShark or whatever. A B35 full OTA zip is better, but ZTE hasn't posted an SD card update download on the zteusa.com website yet.
Thanks!
I was able to grab the B35 update zip without rooting. I let the updater download the file, then quickly powered off the phone before it had a chance to reboot and install. Then I booted into EDL mode, and used @tennear's Axon7Tool to write TWRP. From TWRP I went to /data/data/com.zte.zdm/files, and grabbed a file called fota_update.zip. Then I reflashed the stock recovery with Axon7Tool, and installed the zip. All went fine. I suspect you can grab any OTA zip this way. Maybe I'll upload a copy of the file later.

Yes, sir! Very interested in flashing the update through TWRP while maintaining the advantages of stock for the hardware on board.

I run Apex Launcher & Magisk on the A2017U Stock, cutomized with a ton of stuff frozen & one of @warBeard_actual's mod. It would be nice to have the Aroma power and ability to "thin" things out. Thanks!

I think you're referring to this one ?
In general, did you see quite some difference before and after ?
You can PM for the tons of frozen stuff you like to get rid off. Think i might work on it these days to have some fun :cyclops:

Yes. I downloaded those 'init' files way back last Spring & found them more effective (at least impression-wise) than the AKT stuff. His "Conservative" mod helps w/ battery w/o a noticeable performance hit.
Early on I found the A7 was not happy when some apps were removed & replaced, but functioned OK if they were kept frozen & then replaced. Fortunately there is enough storage & memory that inefficiency does not (so far) cause issues. Sort of like the legacy SubStratum which could (sort of) work as long as system apps were excluded.
I look forward to your "hobby". Thanks

If you are using TWRP and/or are rooted, that setting>update will fail due to modified system files. READ & follow directions in post #2 HERE. Data will be saved & TWRP will be upgraded (if req'd).

Working on it Was harder then our G version stocksystem to make it boot with aroma. Really weird stocksystem...
But i succeeded. Having bootloader changed, twrp build-in and seperate modems, bootanimation changed, build-in battery tweaks, magisk, supersu, fasterUI....all ok now. Just adding some other stuff in next days. Hope to release it in the weekend :cyclops:

It will download, but the install will simply fail as it checks the system files, but certainly you are free to do as you wish. Good Luck!

Uploading A2017(U)(N-B35)_AROMA_SL!M¹_DF!NR now Preparing a seperate thread on ROM section. Keeping you updated when ready :good:
EDIT : DONE ! LINK
hi, i am installing the new OTA update but it when my restarts TWRP asks for password to mount and doesn't allow me to install this new OTA update. I entered my phone password which said it decrypted the pkg but then it only opens the TWRP GUI. I tried to install the zip manually but it said it failed.
How can I let the phone install it without TWRP interfering?
Thanks a lot.

You can't. Use stock recovery if you insist on OTA, or use DrakenFx's zips to flash from TWRP. The latter is much more convenient.

Just updated to OS 11; Cannot Download OS 11.0.2.2.1N11AA Update; How to Do?

I'm about to jump of a ledge over here. So, I've read about this online as well.
I try to install 11.0.2.2.1N11AA and, by the numbers, this is what happens:
1. It says "Installation will continue when device isn't being used. To install now, tap Resume."
2. I tap resume.
3. It says: "Couldn't update
Installation problem"
4. I see and tap "Try again".
5. Loopback to step 1 -- ad infinitum.
How can I update this thing? Anyone have any luck?
And, on another note, at what point is my device not being used exactly? What is using my device that makes this update unworkable? I searched online, others have problems, no one seems to have solutions.
Others noticed this problem on XDA, nobody said anything so far. I found this thread through Google: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-dumper-magisk_patched-guides.4175033/page-13 The Nov 23, 2020 at 10:44 AM reply. That man is in a similar situation as I!
I went through the remainder of the thread, searching for the username "raashnal" in each page until the end of the thread. The logic being, if anyone addressed his concern they would reply to it and he would presumably reply to thank that person. So, I figure the name must come up; it did not; so I assume this thread does not have an answer.

Hello again
So are you rooted at the moment? Do you have oxygen updater installed?
If you are rooted then please disable any and all active modules then reboot your phone.
Then open oxygen updater.
Accept the agreement and provide it any rights it needs then take the update (a full update)
It'll push it to your phone.
Go to settings /system updates / local upgrade.
Choose the zip downloaded by oxygen updater.
Do not reboot when it's complete.
Press home then reopen magisk and click install, then click install to inactive slot after OTA.
Let they install then click reboot, that should be it.
If you're not rooted then let me know.
PS: that's my thread btw, your rationale doesn't quite make sense, an answer could have been given and thanks provided or not. Meaning their name doesn't necessarily have to come up again at all.
It's not that long a thread tbh. The amount of responses I've had and issues addressed and resolved I would say that pretty much any issue to do with payload dumper, root has been addressed
Thank you! I was just about to say, I ended up using Oxygen updater and then doing a local install.
I cannot do an incremental update, but I can do a full update.
I did have an interesting problem, which I also solved. I could not do the OTA install of Magisk! So, I swiped the Oxygen Updater off the recents. Then I tried again and it worked! So, if anyone else has that issue, maybe that will help them !
And I understand that my rationale is flawed, any rational position is flawed. In fact, you won't find any epistemic approach -- even science -- without flaws. I declared my biases and methods to show that I feel I put in a reasonable effort before asking for help. I hope that was part of your understanding. =)

If you are rooted then you're certainly not meant to do an incremental OTA as it needs to be a full update.
Haha and no need to prove your efforts to me pal, it's all good.
Just glad you're sorted.
PS: I've actually just updated the thread as 11.0.3.3 just arrived.
I've provided a patched boot img and have updated the guide already

I always have the same problem when I try to update. For whatever reason before I update I have to flash boot the "stock" boot.img and then my phone will accept the update.

That's not true mate, if you're rooted there is simply no need to change the boot.img, use magisk to install to inactive slot before rebooting, that is it.
The update method you use whilst rooted is oxygen updater and it's a full OTA

I was sharing my experience with updates. Regardless of the update platform Oxygen Updater or One Plus I ALWAYS have to flash the stock boot.img prior to receiving an update.
I think the problem could be that when I flash the patched magisk boot image I flash it to both slots and not one single slot. I'll try the newer method when another update is released.

Yep again mate you don't need to do that, regardless where you download the update from provided it is in fact a full update
