LG Stylo 3 root - LG Stylo 3 Questions & Answers

Hi. I just got an LG Stylo 3 on Virgin Mobile. Although I like this phone Id like to root it to have better functionality. Like to delete bloatware, and have ad-blockers.
Has anyong found root for the LG Stylo 3- LS777??
I see theres root for the LG Stylo 3 Plus. Can that method also be used for the Lg Stylo 3???
If anyone has root or finds root please contact me at [email protected]. Ill donate to you.

Getting the bootloader unlocked will be the biggest trick on this device. As usual, LG is following a longtime tradition of blocking fastboot mode on its budget devices. Without a working exploit to zero out the /laf partition and force fastboot mode, root on the LS777 is going to be extremely difficult. Root and custom Android development are already ongoing on the LG Stylo 3 Plus because the bootloader is readily unlockable on that variant.

This is the latest firmware for the LG Stylo 3 (LS777) with July 1, 2018 security patches. This package consists of partition images and is not in TOT or kdz format. The engineering version of LG-UP can be used to flash the individual partitions (using Partition DL mode). Or, the images can be used with a kdz firmware package compiler to create a kdz package.
These partition images are untouched stock.
Android Version 7.0
Software Version LS777ZVE

Security Patch Level: July 1, 2018

So no root for this phone yet?

Zve that don't sound right is to be zv8 or zv9

I'm wondering, I was reading another thread in this forum and read something about possibly achieving root even with a locked bootloader. It said that something would have to be patched and a insecure aboot flashed. I would attempt this, my issue is the LGUP tool. It keeps telling me unknown model. And I have tried about everything I can think of. I even used uppercut along with it to try to get the program to recognize my device. Any ideas?

It is definitely ZVE
Virgin Mobile variant
But now it is not the latest. An OTA rolled out last week bringing the software version up to ZVF

You'll need the modded version of LG-UP. Contact @Astr4y4L here on XDA. He can assist you with getting it.

No wifi, imei working for Moto G4 Plus XT1643(indian version)?

I was stuck on boot loop while rooting my Moto G4 Plus(Indian Version) so I downloaded the stock rom from File Factory where the file name was "G4_XT1641-XT1643_ATHENE_6.0.1_MPJ24.139-13.1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml_2" for XT1643 version. While flashing through cmd there were some errors like "image not signed or corrupt " and I ignored them as I was half way through. After completing the process, my phone booted successfully. Now, I'm not able to Turn on my wifi, there is no imei so no cellular network, rest all everything is working fine. I googled a lot for Moto G4 Plus stock rom and everywhere I was redirected to only on link which was from File Factory. I even formatted the phone but there was not change, even re flashed the same rom but still no success. Please help, it was the first day of my phone and this happened
try this file factory link from this thread

Looks like you flashed the wrong firmware at some point, your baseband is reporting the wrong version for example. Also, losing Wi-Fi and IMEI could be caused by the wrong firmware. What's also not good is that your device is reporting itself as a G4 rather than a G4 Plus... What firmware did you flash?
You could try flashing either this firmware (a signed stock firmware for XT 1643 devices) https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1643-updated-signed-t3460695 which is build number 139-63 or reflash the MPJ24.139-23.1 firmware (which I think is the Marshmallow firmware for Indian devices, I recommend that you verify this yourself before flashing). You may find the 23.1 firmware here in the XT1640 folder https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G4 (Plus)/Stock/XT1640/ or check the links in this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/skus-build-t3427601
I'm hoping that when you re-flash your Wi-Fi and IMEI are restored though no guarantees unfortunately, good luck either way.

Hmm, that's odd, as I've used that same signed ROM without losing imei. You've repeated the flash with a fresh copy of the stock ROM and you're on a XT1643? Can you describe what flashing you've performed? Did you also try rolling back to the earlier marshmallow build? (Again, please verify it's suitable for your device)
Lastly, can you reboot to your bootloader, plug your device into your computer and, in adb, execute 'fastboot getvar all' and post the output here? You may wish to remove your serial and imei from the output.
I hope others will be able to suggest steps, else it may require a service centre repair.
Is this helpful?

Thanks, looks like at some point your device was flashed with US firmware, the fingerprint reports as MPJ24.139-64, which is the latest US MM based firmware. The Indian stock ROM should be reporting 139-63/64.
You can try to re-flash using the Asia/Indian specific firmware, which given from your recent posting, I see you've been hunting, to try to revert back to your proper firmware. Again, as I've previously stated, should be the 139-23.1 build but again confirm this before flashing, and be aware this may not work still.

Doesn't really change matters - the installer still detects your device as athene, a G4 (rather than athene_f, a G4 Plus) and as such has flashed the G4 specific firmware onto your device.
I can't think of anything else to try except submitting your device for a service centre repair - this thread details a similar situation as yours: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/moto-g4-pluss-model-changed-to-g4-lost-t3496912 and looks like the outcome was to either have your device repaired or buy a new one.

Appears to be the same firmware that Indian XT1643 devices came with initially (and that's what I mentioned to you in a previous post too), but double check by searching on XDA and other platforms.

I'm afraid it is MM. v20 firmware. At least jan sec patch. Hopefully it will come to unbranded roms too.
I can't believe how bad is LG aftersales. If I knew that before I would have bought a different brand.
If it is v20, it is MM.. Unfortunately. And now we have February, almost March so it will be nice if LG releases february update... I think it will be success if LG give us Nougat update at all...

Yeah, terrible LG support. Samsung officialy said that S6 And S Edge will get Android N in a few days/weeks.
I would recommend everyone to generate their unique unlock.bin file on LG G4 unlock website in case of that LG shutdown LG G4 software support completly or Its unlocking page. All of you can easily unlock bootloader and flash custom ROM then (Lineage 14.1 for example).
I have already done that unlocking procedure and I've installed root and twrp. So if LG closes the support, I'll be able to change ROM if necessary.

This might fix that error, but I haven't tried it yet.
There must be a reason why this KDZ cannot be installed normally.
After using 0x2000 fix KDZ flashed sucessfully. ROM has Android 6.0 with security patch from January 2017. It just has custom Vodafone boot animation, anything else stock, no bloat.

Root/Downgrade LG V20 Verizon as of Sept. 2017?

Did some digging but couldn't find any useful information that is current regarding the Verizon LG V20 and rooting it.
I see there is a method for rooting firmware version 12a that supposedly works for version 13a but wouldn't know about that.
Does anyone know if it's possible to root the current version of the firmware? and where can I find a tutorial?
If not is it possible to downgrade from this version of the firmware to the latest rootable version and go from there?
My firmware version is VS99515A.
I'd really like to be able to unlock some features and get rid of the bloatware that is taking up quite a few GB's of space.
If not I'm not going to sweat it much as it's still a great device that would service my needs as is but of course if there is an option to have a better experience then I'll take it.

I was figuring this was the way based on some other places on the net. However I wasn't sure if 13a was properly supported for root or not. I know that 12a is. Any insight or confirmation that 13a is in fact rootable?
I came across the thread below and followed it but didnt pull the trigger because I didnt fully understand the process and if it was going to work. So im going to read this thread and see if I can make sense of things.

Don't think you have searched that hard...
All versions of Verizon firmware are downgradeable. This include everything from 11A to 16B. Yes, I have done it, multiple times. If you are on 14, 15, or 16 simply use uppercut to downgrade to either 12A or 13A. You can find the KDZ here:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-vs995-firmwares/
What about downgrading from 20C? Just bought this phone because the battery is removable but I must have root or all,is lost. :/

NPNS version to NPN version

I am having xt1686 indian variant .. i unlocked the bootloader and installed the custom roms.. now while going back to stock i mistakenly installed NPNS (US VARIANT, I suppose) ..
I am unable to install the NPN version now .. i guess the bootloader is not matching ..
Right now i am having a bootloader - C0.8(*) in NPNS ...
PLEAAE SUGGEST HOW TO MOVE TO INDIAN VERSION OF NPN... THNKS..
S does not mean US or any other variant specific build... there are literally different builds for different variants. My US Retail version is NPN25.173-83
In previous Moto models, the S meant it had been upgraded from an OTA, but in looking in my current device it has received several OTAs and does not have the S, so either that has been depreciated or our original assumptions in earlier models was incorrect.
Either way, the fact the S is there does not mean US (or any other country), just a slightly different build... I don't have an answer of why you can't go back though.

Fastboot NPN25.137-15 build (may be found as brasil-latam)
Lock bootloader (necessary to receive ota) google it
Reboot device
Update phone via ota received in system
Done.
Use this link to download 137-15 build

Generally, OTA updates can be received with a locked or unlocked bootloader. Only requirement is to have a stock and unmodified system.
However, I personally would caution against downgrading from NPNS firmware to NPN, as you run a risk of hard bricking if you take OTA updates after you've downgraded. As acejavelin has mentioned, the NPNS firmware should reflect OTA/security updates (but seems that Motorola's naming convention is a bit inconsistent), which means your bootloader is likely updated by the firmware. If you've flashed a NPNS firmware, you'd likely be at least on the may security patch. The Indian firmware you'd need is the January patch (NPN25.137-15, as I don't think the NPN25.137-67 or 67-5 firmwares have been leaked). Thus, downgrading to an earlier firmware might give you problems if you then use OTA updates to update. We've already seen a similar situation in the Moto G5 plus unbrick thread.
Instead of reflashing the Indian stock ROM and risking a hard brick, you may wish to look into using the TWRP flashable images which only touch the system.

I had same issue.
I unlocked my bootloader when I was on NPN25-137-67, installed custom roms as well. My bootloader got corrupted.
I tried flashing the twrp stock zip but it didn't work.
I know the risks of downgrading and it can hardbrick the device. But since I already downgraded and my fone is still alive I thought it could help him as well. So it's tested. And it did not mess up anything.
About locked/unlocked bootloader, you might be right that ota updates can be received. But since I locked my bootloader and then did the update process. twice. it worked.
Well ofcourse there are lots of ifs so I would also suggest downgrading firmware as a last resort.
P. S. I have xt1686 Indian variant.

Okay, when you hard bricked and then used the blankflash, then by flashing the NPN25.137-15 update, you may not have run into any issues as that was the update prior to NPN25.137-67. Thus, you may have been okay as the OTA update simply patched the same files as before. You may also have been able to downgrade without issue as the NPN25.137-67 firmware is only up to the March 2017 patch level.
The opening poster has the different problem of having NPNS25.137 firmware, which at the moment is either NPNS25.137-33-5/NPNS25.137-33-11 or NPNS25.137-35-5 (EU or US firmware) with the May 2017/August 2017 security patch. Downgrading from the May 2017 patch or later and then accepting OTA updates appears to cause a hard brick, especially if you cross downgrade from the NPNS firmware to the Indian firmware: https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/help/moto-g5-plus-hard-bricked-recognized-t3636457

Well ofcourse there is a big potential of hard bricking the device by the method. That's why I said last resort.
So what do you suggest?
TWRP image? And if it doesn't work, he should probably wait up for next NPN build? @toyesh.patra you should consider keeping a custom rom if possible.
Btw
The ota update which I received was August patch. After which I unlocked my bootloader. It was either NPN25.137-67 or NPN25.137-67-5. I'M not sure about version. But it was definitely August patch.
Or maybe I was lucky one time.
Won't do it another time.

Yes
So if I wanted to go full stock after flashing any custom ROM, all I need to do is flash the 67-5 firmware and I'll be good to go, right?
PS: I'm already on stock and updated to 67-5

Any TWRP / Root solutions for Galaxy J7 Neo SM-J701M?

The bootloader is unlocked and I have booted into a couple of versions of twrp but they're all really unstable and they end up causing my phone to boot loop when I try to flash something/reboot. Has anyone else had any luck with this phone?
Something to try?

Don't know guys, for sure this device doesn't have a custom ROM ...Yet! I hope but if you have an unlocked bootloader(and if you don't, as I did, there's still hope) it can still be rooted, I used this method here to root:
https://unofficialtwrp.com/root-twrp...-neo-sm-j701m/
I used it on my device (SM-J701M) and it worked, the TWRP version is unofficial (It's supposed to be compatible with J7 core, J7 neo & J7 nxt models) and a bit buggy but it's better than nothing, and you'll get root, so if it helps kudos to you all.
A word of caution: make a backup, it's pretty easy with SmartSwitch
For those who may have a locked bootloader after the Oreo update as I did, you can reinstall/flash your firmware from SamMobile (https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/ga...ware/#SM-J701M), using Odin, in most cases, the security patch is not upgraded yet and the firmware version still has the option to unlock bootloader in Developer Options.
You will have to create an account, and you must be specific with your device's carrier, take a note of your baseband version as that will give you an idea of the firmware you will download. I've also successfully upgraded to Pie. Hope this helps, Good Luck.
