Any TWRP / Root solutions for Galaxy J7 Neo SM-J701M? - Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Questions & Answers

The bootloader is unlocked and I have booted into a couple of versions of twrp but they're all really unstable and they end up causing my phone to boot loop when I try to flash something/reboot. Has anyone else had any luck with this phone?

Something to try?

Don't know guys, for sure this device doesn't have a custom ROM ...Yet! I hope but if you have an unlocked bootloader(and if you don't, as I did, there's still hope) it can still be rooted, I used this method here to root:
https://unofficialtwrp.com/root-twrp...-neo-sm-j701m/
I used it on my device (SM-J701M) and it worked, the TWRP version is unofficial (It's supposed to be compatible with J7 core, J7 neo & J7 nxt models) and a bit buggy but it's better than nothing, and you'll get root, so if it helps kudos to you all.
A word of caution: make a backup, it's pretty easy with SmartSwitch
For those who may have a locked bootloader after the Oreo update as I did, you can reinstall/flash your firmware from SamMobile (https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/ga...ware/#SM-J701M), using Odin, in most cases, the security patch is not upgraded yet and the firmware version still has the option to unlock bootloader in Developer Options.
You will have to create an account, and you must be specific with your device's carrier, take a note of your baseband version as that will give you an idea of the firmware you will download. I've also successfully upgraded to Pie. Hope this helps, Good Luck.

j327P (Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge) TWRP/ROOT METHOD??

Hey there i have question about the j327P (Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge) that i bought yesterday, I've been searching for a official TWRP & ROOT thread for this phone and had no luck. But i ended up doing my own research and gained a little more information about the phone, it is running a Snapdragon 425 (CPU) and it's also running an Adreno 308 (GPU) along with Marshmallow 6.0.1 (OS).
I later did more research about what phone has the exact same specs as the j327P and if the other phone has a ROOT method along with TWRP. It ended up being an Xiaomi Redmi 4a having a Snapdragon 425 (CPU) an Adreno 308 (GPU) & Marshmallow 6.0.1 (OS). It also has a TWRP & ROOT (SuperSU) method and wondered if i could use those files for the j327P.
And yes i’m aware that the TWRP has to be a tar file so it can be able to put on odin. But i'm wondering if these files can be used to root the j327P?

I just installed CP and BL files for G930T QE1 and AP and CSC files from here,
Rooted with mix of Goodroot by @Quickvic30 and Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V1.zip by @jrkruse (used supersu from v1.zip and root script from goodroot, edited root script lines to point to 2.82 apk), installed kernel auditor and set both cpu govenors to ONDEMAND, WOWWW, MY PHONE is completely **** free, rooted, faster than ever, no more lagging whatsoever, and just feeling so great of a device that I always knew it is but never felt by its performance.
Thanks @muniz_ri, He has always posted many firmwares that I used, I just was in process of upgrading my S7 yesterday, didnt see this updates posted by him and had to wait 4+ hours to get it from SamMobile, so I just uploaded to mega myself, hope it helps anyone.

Question: how do I de-bloat this sucker? I don't like all of these samsung apps on here...
I have not receive my S7 yet, waiting for them to ship to me. I am curious how did it go with you. Are you able to use Radio, VOLTE, wifi calling, mimo, etc. In regard to the Samsung Bloat, the only way is to root and uninstall. How's the performance and battery wise. Thanks for your feedback. . Hope to get my phone by next week.
OK, to clear some things up,
THIS IS OFFICIAL SAMSUNG.
I believe it does not trip knox if you are not planning to modify system. If you are please follow root guides.
BL and CP are from G930U, in my case I just flashed them and they are working more than good enough for my purposes, but if you prefer TMO ones, please grab them from https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...ware-g930t-qe1-android-7-0-5-27-2018-t3613122 thread by muniz and thank him for uploading them.
about usage: Battery life is excellent, however I am rooted so I had to flash engineering boot image, Which of course makes phone lag, but I took care of lag using Kernelauditor and setting CPU to ondemand. I let kernelauditor do its thing whenever I restart phone by leaving it alone for 2-3 minutes. after that I can not see any difference in performance of Stock 930U and rooted 930U. Adfree is a MUST for me so I love root. Try that and decide for yourself, Oh I love samsung feature that puts background apps to sleep. I think it has given huge battery boost and I go thru day with moderate usage easily.

If you want stock android experience, I did it on my galaxy s7edge, flashed the custom ROM from FlashFire. Please refer to this thread for more info: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/development/rom-t3572739
It totally worked for me and I am not going back, but I dont think that rom is available for S7, wouldn't hurt requesting if you really want it.
@nanunoran .....TY for clarifying the files. and ty for providing the link to the TMO modem.
Hello everyone, I am using G930T and already converted to G930U running QC1 (April 1. 2017) version of 7.1. What is the easiest way to update to QD2 with baseband ending in QC1? I prefer not having to re-install all apps and loose data as I have no root. Checking for updates doesn't bring up the notification that update is available for download/install. Thank You for your help.

Here is what i would do
1. Download matching G930U CP file from one of threads in this forum and odin it. So all of your firmware parts are now matched. You cannot get OTA update if firmware is hybrid.
2. Do OTA to update your G930U firmware to the latest one.
3. Then odin latest G930T CP file from another threads here in the forum.
Dont forget to wipe cache to avoid problems or issues.
Before you do everything above, i would say wait a day or two since another G930U is soon to be out anytime now. Check sammobile.
Hope above helps.

Fingerprint work for me.
Anyone having issue with samsung pay?
I did what the origin author did but without root (at least not yet).
Flash:
G930T QE1 for CP and BL files (CP_G930TUVS4BQE1 and BL_G930TUVS4BQE1)
G930T QE2 for AP and CSC (AP_G930UUEU4BQE2 and CSC_OYM_G930UOYM4BQE2)
I follow the instruction and able to flash U version with no issue. I have been using it since. I also flash the TMO version of the CP files and I am able to get VoLTE and WIFI calling. I did not experience any fingerprint issue or samsung pay issue.. However, My problem is that the U version camera does not have the shutter sound options to turn off. The Tmobile version have that option within the camera settings. Can I somehow get the TMO version of the camera app and odin it or sideload it. If so, where can I get it.
And to be quite honest, the TMO version doesn't really have that much bloatware in compare. Just a few TMO apps. Trust me, I use to be with ATT and their phones are bloat cancer.
@vinberry,
Which BL did you flash? Can you posh all the version of each file you flash with? thanks.
@gundamdx. I flashed the U version of BL, AP, CSC files as provided by @nanunoran and flashed the TMO version of the CP file. I have no problem with SPay. Also, if you are looking to unlock you sim, you need to do it while you are still in tmobile firmware and use their unlock app. The app doesn't work in the U firmware. It will indicated something like device not qualify to unlock. remember what I mentioned about the camera shutter sound if that's something that would bother you.

If you love that feature...check this out. This is the most current version that can be installed on our API 24 from apkmirror. When you install this on top of the existing device maintenance feature, it allows you to completely put just about any user app to sleep for good! It adds another section under "Battery" called "Always sleeping apps".
Description: "Select apps that will be put to sleep immediately when they aren't being used. Always sleeping apps will never run in the background. They may not receive updates or send you notifications"

Yes. It's just not officially released yet. I've been scouring the web for a leak. This means Oreo has been built for our device already and the official release coming. If you're curious about WiFi Alliance, wikipedia has good information about them.

I'm already running Oreo. TWRP has problems with it. I can't make a backup of the OS. You can restore a back up, but you have to flash the BL file from ARG2 then wipe everything in TWRP first. SuperSU 2.82-SR5 will cause a boot loop. I'm going to try magisk 17.1. Honestly, I'm very disappointed with Samsung's Oreo... It's almost the exact same as Nougat, and the new camera sucks, very bad. They gave us Nougat, with Oreo 8.1 as the base firmware. That's my literal take on it. I'm definitely getting a Moto G6 after seeing this, and I'm going back to my stock build.

I have, and flashing back to nougat works fine. You have to flash ARG2 for it to work, and you can't downgrade the Modem. I'll put together instructions and probably a debloated ROM later this evening, and I'll get the firmware uploaded ASAP. Some notes, clearing the camera data fixes the blurry image problem, and it can be rooted. You need the latest TWRP, and Magisk 17.1 stable. You must flash TWRP, swipe to allow modifications, then format data with the option that makes you type "yes", then flash magisk. Root works perfectly. No issues. I'm debloating the OS right now. I'm about to test Viper too. Its actually much faster than Nougat once the junk is out and yes, it can be fully deknoxed. This might not be so bad. I'm still disappointed with their lack of Oreo-esq cosmetics though.

I've got 3 of 4 firmware files uploaded. The AP file is giving me trouble cause my WiFi sucks, and it keeps failing before it finishes. I did put together a full stock Oreo ROM but its got problems. You can only flash it using TWRP if you have the ARG2 bootloader, but, the ARG2 bootloader, won't allow Oreo to boot up no matter what. We'd need a custom boot.img and I can't make one. The ROM can't be flashed with the Oreo bootloader installed either, because it prevents TWRP from copying/writing to the data or system partitions. If it tries to, it'll reboot half way through. Magisk 17.1 will also lose root after awhile. We need a custom boot, or we need a modified root method and an updated TWRP to have any fun with it. SMH at Samsung right now. They gave us Oreo, with no milk, and a slap in the face. Nougat everything, running on Oreo 8.1 firmware... I'll never get over that. I'm running an ARG2 build cause everything works, and largely looks the same. I swear, they didn't even try. They just reskinned some Nougat apps and put them in an Oreo system. I will never buy another Samsung product after seeing this half hearted Oreo they gave us.

I managed to find the firmware, however, it's behind a pay wall on servers in Iran. The firmware name is J727PVPU4BRH5 if you want to help look for it. As soon as find it on a free server, I'll post an update.

Dear Sirs;
Having had to replace my originally bought (Nov 17, 2017) J7 Perx from Boost, then bricking it and replacing it with a Galaxy S6 refurb from Boost, which was then STOLEN by a "friend" of 6(six) years, has been replaced by a NEWER J7 Perx. This device received at lest 3, if not 4 OTA updates, one of which was a supplemental firmware/software update. About Phone (and Samsung INFO app) NOW reveal the following detail:
HARDWARE VERSION; J727P.02
Mfg date; 03/15/2018
Software Version; J727PVPU4BRH5
Android Version; 8.1.0
Samsung Experience; 9.5
Baseband Version; J7272PVPU4BRH5
Build Number; M1AJQ.J727PVPU4BRH5
Android Security Patch; August 1, 2018.
If given instruction and link to necessary utility to extract the firmware from my device to my PC, I would be more than pleased to provide the files(s) procured from that process.
I look forward to hearing more about possible deodexed firmware to ROOT my newest device.
A custom ROM would be nice, too.

Guess I should have browsed a few more posts before posting.
I found the link to all the 8.x firmwares for the various models, and must say "Bravo!" for the Herculean effort expended to collect, upload and make all that available.
Thanks!

Can you post some screenshots of your J7 running Pie??
Here you go.
I think carriers phase OTA at different dates.
I was hoping at least being able to capture some sort of ROM through OTA for SM-J737A (file was about 1.3Gb), but kind of problematic without root.
I haven't taken the update yet and can't find the firmware to download ... At&t don't like it posted for some reason.
You familiar with adb? Can you get me a dump??
adb pull /system
Would like the boot and recovery. Going to hopefully have OEM unlock soon

Hawk

I Flashed the Combination firmware and it showed OEM unlock. Can't do much at the time as I use my phone for work but going to try and side load magisk next time if even possible
Is there a combination firmware for Pie?
