Is any developments going on for the device now?
I don't see anything regarding this device.. Kind of hopeless ?

looks like production of the device has been dropped very early and nobody likes mediatek devices.
just relax and enjoy MIUI.

EXACTLY!!! And one of the devs has done it albeit with major bugs but AFAIK he has left the 9500 development without even sharing the link!! And last year we got the HUGE update (Lollipop) in less than a month, by the end of Nov. However now, it's more thn 2 months M has been released and altough it's a relatively small update compared to L, nobody has done it. I hope the devs will soon turn off their hibernation mode and get on track. We know this isn't their job, but they can do it! Our devs are the best!!

It's because you got a ****ty device with a ****ty chip and no documentation on the chip. Same story with the S5, S6, S6edge etc. Exynos sucks. So it's 10 times harder to develop a rom for you device.

I know it is much harder and I got a $#itty device, but if I knew these stuff back then, I'd rather die than get 9500. However, done is done, you can't get back infortunately :crying:
But the fact that it is already partially developed is burning me cause it's not being released to the public. Furthermore, N3 exy also has CM13 and released to the public even though it has a slight laggy touch input bug

There is no point at all releasing a rom that is far from usable. But you just have to be patient. There probably will be a working version eventually:

I admire your optimistic outlook.
There will almost certainly be development in the future, but considering the sources just came out today, it will a while before anything useable comes out.
I wouldn't expect jack from asus, it all depends on intel porting N to x86
If they do there is the possibility of CM14.........as long as cyanogen doesn't drops official support for the ZF2
In that case, game over

you right: game over
Yeah Asus is gonna announce they're halting android 6 development to give us the new and improved os: Nougat. Estimated release date October 32th 2018 to be postponed to July 45th 2019 couse of unspecified issues. Stay tuned.
Seriously, seeing as things are going I wouldn't bet a thing on Asus working on n for this device.
Sent from my ASUS_Z008D
I wouldn't think it likely. Thus far, we have official ASUS statements on getting 6.0 on the device followed by a considerable period of support with security updates.
Seeing that Intel has basically exited the mobile phone market, ceasing development on any further chips to compete with arm and actually opening up their own fabrication facilities to other manufacturers to make their chips in, and that it has taken this long to get the sources for 6 in a usable state on x86 at all, you could say that we are most likely not getting it. Add to that the new Zenfone devices on the cusp of coming out, unless ASUS pulls one hell of a magic trick, 6.0 is where we will have our devices left at officially.
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL Is this the next thing people are going to be crying over?

You can start working even if you don't have the source from Huawei, We did that on the P8 Lite (Kirin 620) and no one gave us any source.
I have heard that the Honor development department is reviewing the requests list that XDA sent. (However I can't find that list, maybe I am wrong). @svetius knows for sure.
EDIT:
I read about it here: http://www.xda-developers.com/honor-8-xda-review/#Dev

Still no official release, but I guess by the end of this month.
EMUI is good, but personally I perfer CM more.
I don't know. I like EMUI, using it with my Honor 6. But I feel that devs here could really improve it much much more thant Honor themselves could. I really hope that Honor/Huawei will release the source for their SOCs, as they are some really, really good ones.

Every time I read the word 'Source' at this section I think that people are not getting the point. If you think that a 'source' is what you need to magically have CM, AOSP etc then you are wrong, what you need is an interested developer (more than one if possible) who owns the phone (90% of the people posting, including me, don't).
This means that:
a) If Honor releases any kind of 'source', that doesn't mean that it's going to be complete, clear, or useful for porting roms (like the kernel, it isn't needed for that )
b) Even if they release something (and I doubt they will), it's not going to be 'plug and play'.
What I mean is, don't get too excited with any 'source' that comes from Huawei, the only way to know if this phone is developer-friendly is by waiting until you see projects coming.
I'm looking for a phone and so far the Honor 8 seems the most interesting for me. None of the other available phones really caught my interest. Nexus 5x, new google phone or Mi5 maybe but they all have flaws. And I really want something with NFC.
I'm not a fan of glass back phones but it does look real fancy on this one. No selling point but a nice bonus.
I'm planning on doing 'something' with the honor 8 if I get one. Kernel sources would help I guess. Haven't really messed with system code yet, just apps.
Hope they release it soon if they haven't yet.
Does Huawei normally release their sources? The Xiaomi Mi5 looks nice on hardware level (but no sd card slot) but I'm still a bit weary of Xiaomi.
Well even if they don't, we can still make EMUI based roms right?
Good luck to all developers. Hope I'll be one of you soon

Yes, but you can find them inside a firmware update or even at your own firmware.
The problem is, that Huawei instead of creating their own files (they created some), they modified the ones that were already there, so there are lots of incompatibilities.

Mix developer support abandonment

I've got this feeling, after the sad goodbye of dear @pappschumpfl, that development support for this beloved and wonderful device is weaning and slowly but surely disappearing. Checking the development section for other xiaomi devices like redmi note 4 or mi6 you can see a lot more movement, discussion and activity.
Anyway, just makes me sad this feeling and I believe it is not only a feeling... With the coming of Mix 2 it will probably get worse. Or maybe with the Mix getting cheaper it will change for the better in the future? What are your thoughts on this people?
There is of course AICP and those guys work is fantastic! But they are mostly alone right now...
Im pretty sure he meant that its his final Nougat rom, as everyone building roms for any device has now moved on to Oreo, so Im guessing we will see more updates once the Oreo roms have been figured out...
As you can see there are a fair amount of roms for the Mi Mix.......

Well none of them are maintaining their builds except for BitO, who's given us Multirom and a fantastic Kernel :victory:
As for Papps he got a Note 8 and I have no idea if he's gona be building an Oreo rom for lithium. He doesn't have to of course.
Anyway, maybe you are right

I think this was inevitable with the Mix being a niche device.
I hope we get Oreo eventually, but at least we have some ROMs that are stable.
Final RR is pretty damn good.
Mix was a high end device, high priced device and now it's an outdated device... basically a standard life for a chinese phone on XDA like this one... exemple is based on large sell device, redmi/mi5/mi6... not the same as ur Mix...
Sadly, i think like u... device will go to trash silently...
Also, around the forums we've seen various devs state that we'll see O
IMO, it would be OK just seeing security patches for what we already have.
I have a Nexus 6P and whilst us enthusiasts want the latest and greatest, honestly there isn't anything worth getting too excited about.
I think it will be maintained for awhile, the sort of people who bought the mix are the ones who like to mess and build ROMs (hoping), only time will tell. Let's face it there is nothing worth buying over this at the moment.
but of course, you can also learn how to build roms, etc.

This is a very good point.
For beginners, here is a step by step for LOS: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/lithium/build
Its not out dated and won't be for a while yet - it is odd and requires an interest in making roms. I am sure there will be development for the roms, people are so down these days.

Oreo will come in time - people really need to learn to be more patient. It has some very good nougat roms already.
Every 15 days aprox you have a new updated build here https://download.lineageos.org/lithium
Lineage OS oficial is running for lithium.
I don't understand the tittle of the post.
Worst comes to worst Lineage will be released for our Mixs. If it comes down to it, I'll start developing a Rom.

Doesn't work using the cm-15 branch so far... Or I couldn't make it work anyway. Problem is in Mix sources though, not LOS source...
I think Paps might come back. I went to Note 8 but will be back on a new Mix tomorrow. Missing that beautiful 3 side non existent bezel.
I wrote this OP over two months ago and in this time, luckily Papps hasn't abandoned us completely (thanks!) and BitObsession has been providing awesome work and support, several builds, Multitom and a fantastic kernel (thanks!!!). Also AOSiP came and is being maintained I think, so good enough maybe. The guys behind AICP keep also their work (thanks too!).
What seems still so far away that it seems to me we might not see it is Oreo... Anybody with info on wether the good guys at Lineage are working on Oreo for Lithium??
It's of course ok if dev support stays as it is, and developers do what they want with their devices, but it would surely be nice to see our Mix being upgraded to the latest Android as the flagship it is.
Thanks everybody.

it's not looking good for us, the device has been out for 6 months and we have nothing.
i think someone said the devs are not skilled enough to decrypt the device and that is why we have nothing.
they are also struggling to port the 48mpixel camera.
so for now miui is the best choice, sadly.
I was wondering why there aren't so many custom roms for this device while it's a very successful mid range budget phone. Your reasons could be right. Could it also be that many users are not really unhappy with the stock rom? Maybe that's also why there aren't many comments and threads for this device here in XDA? Coming from Samsung j7, I honestly have not much to complain about the stock rom, especially after getting rid off many bloatwares without rooting the phone. I can unlock my bootloader in 2 days, but I'm not sure I'll do that to install any of the currently available custom roms. I'm thinking of waiting for a while.
Maybe because Xiaomi EU works just well. There aren't ads, and the UI is smooth too. Also ram used bhi OS is 1.3-4 gigs. It's smooth

It was released by end of February. Dont repeat this "its soooo old" **** so often..
It has nothing to do with decryption. The device must be attractive and it does Not seem so popular.
If you want, use gsi Rom. Or build a rom from source. Or buy the device For a good Developer as a Gift...
