Any i9500 developer working on Marshmallow rom ? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am seeing that i9505 got 3 marshmallow roms from different developers. Whats up with i9500 developers, are they working on something or is everyone sleeping

EXACTLY!!! And one of the devs has done it albeit with major bugs but AFAIK he has left the 9500 development without even sharing the link!! And last year we got the HUGE update (Lollipop) in less than a month, by the end of Nov. However now, it's more thn 2 months M has been released and altough it's a relatively small update compared to L, nobody has done it. I hope the devs will soon turn off their hibernation mode and get on track. We know this isn't their job, but they can do it! Our devs are the best!!

It's because you got a ****ty device with a ****ty chip and no documentation on the chip. Same story with the S5, S6, S6edge etc. Exynos sucks. So it's 10 times harder to develop a rom for you device.

I know it is much harder and I got a $#itty device, but if I knew these stuff back then, I'd rather die than get 9500. However, done is done, you can't get back infortunately :crying:
But the fact that it is already partially developed is burning me cause it's not being released to the public. Furthermore, N3 exy also has CM13 and released to the public even though it has a slight laggy touch input bug

There is no point at all releasing a rom that is far from usable. But you just have to be patient. There probably will be a working version eventually:

Thanks man! Just contacted him btw and asked if he could give me a link to download it.

@Azar_98
It isn't even released yet. You can track GearCM's GitHub and see what changes are made for our device-tree, rather than request a blind build.

[Q] Why so few custom ROMS for the S4 Exynos?

Hi Everyone,
I just took delivery of my new S4 Exynos (Octa) and am surprised how few custom ROMS are out there for this device.
I had an S3 and so I'm kinda used to being spoilt for choice when it came to custom ROMS.
Any ideas why there's but a few for the Octa? Is it because of the chipset?
I saw Cyanogen have said they nt going to release any ROMS for the Octa
device is relatively new, exynos always gave headaches to devs of CM.....
give it time, some people said its not worth upgrading from an s3 so... yeah less custom ROMs
Really its a bitter truth...9500 has only 2 or 3 Devs till now with no update and fixes in lias 2 or 3 weeks ..that section seems like ghost busted :
9505 too has not as many Devs as HTC One has...however it has quite good dev support
I think after so many issues in s4 Devs are skipping it [probably] for note 3
lets wait and see in the near future if the outcome is bad, its hammer time !

To be clear - CM rarely says that a given device will NEVER be supported. The last time we did that was with the Snapdragon S1 and CM9 - That hardware was simply too weak to support ICS and later.
However, all of the CM maintainers that have worked with past Exynos variants refuse to touch it, and anyone else with maintainer experience saw what we went through with Exynos4 and also seem to be avoiding it.
There is always the possibility that someone new will pick things up - but honestly, I consider the likelihood to be very slim.
So CM support for the "Octa" is POSSIBLE - but it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY. I think that AndreiLux was the only experienced low-level (kernels, platform bringup) developer to touch the "Octa", and he's not particularly happy with it so far.

Other than the CCI fiasco I'm relatively fine with the phone. I expected and was prepared to bring MP to the device but I guess that's not happening.
As for CM, I think it's more of a problem of lack of interest than actual technical feasibility. I'd happily dwell into the device platform world if I had time but that's not happening anytime soon as I have a backlog of features in the kernel space to do and finish.

No CM support does not equal to no dev support just to be clear. There are top.devs here ( Indie and Wanam) and there most likely be more devs to join the party. It is however a surprise that there's only a few Roms for this device at the moment.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
Well because most of the S4 users have the Snapdragon variant. As for CM, as Entropy said, its most probably not going to come out for our device, even if it does, it'll be broken and unusable due to lack of source code/documentation, etc. As for the custom ROMs, we'll have more of them but the best one IMO - Android Revolution HD - is very unlikely for our device.
The Octa is such a great phone yet the support seems to be lacking a little, I mean my Huawei U8800 had more development going on than this phone.
I dont get why alot of people are saying the Octa is crap compared to the S600 when the Octa beats the S600 in every benchmark I've seen.
Is the S600 an easier design to build custom ROMS for?
I have tried Doc Barebones ROM and Wanams Lite ROM. Both work well on the Octa but I found Docs ROM to the give me the highest Antutu scores, always above 30000 with the highest being 30890. Wanam's ROM didn't yield much more than the stock ROM, around 28300, same with the Omega v4 ROM.
I'm back to on the stock firmware, with bloatware removed, for now. having tried those three ROMS I'm itching to try another but alas I cant find any :crying:

Yes as Qualcomm is much more open source than Exynos. Not open source = pain in the a** to develop.

Damn!
I read some where that Samsung might release the source code for the exynos. Is this true?
And if they did would that make it any easie rto develop ROMS for the Octa?
Just simply harder to develop anything for Exynos, i think.
I'd like to remind everyone that developers spend their own time and money on development.
Basically, unless the developer has a strong interest in a device he will not feel obliged to 'hack' features such as camera, noise canceling and so on.
I miss the old days of the HD2
I hope we can get CM on the 9500 because it will open the door for AOKP and Paranoid-Android and possibly MIUI.
Good luck to the developers.
RIP on i9500 haha just joking ... @AndreiLux are u giving up on i9500 ? oh please dont
As Entropy512 said, the problem is mostly because Exynos has terrible source code support. There are a lot of precompiled modules in the source, and these are tied to the Android version that the source code is for. This means that when a new version of Android comes out, you're stuck waiting for Samsung to catch up.
What the devs (like Entropy) have been trying to do is to create open-source versions of these modules, so that they're not reliant on Samsung. This has been extremely frustrating for them, requiring a lot of work for very little gain.
What would be ideal is for Samsung to provide source code and documentation for these precompiled modules. They're promised to do this several times, but so far have only delivered some code that only works for a reference board, not for the hardware configurations that any of their phones use. Even worse, the source code that is available is based on Gingerbread, and has numerous hacks applied to allow it to work with ICS. In short, it's just broken and will not work.
Qualcomm (Snapdragon), on the other hand, provide very good developer support. They and Texas Instruments (OMAP) have a very good reputation with the devs, with lots of source code and documentation available. That's why Snapdragon and OMAP phones are among the first to be supported when new versions of AOSP/AOKP/CM come out.
The I9500 may do better in the benchmarks than the I9505, but that's one of the few advantages it has.
Sent from my GT-I9505
I am not really interested in anything else but AOSP / CM on this phone. We badly need it.. I think we need to build the force on Twitter so that we can bombard their twitter account (@SamsungExynos) and force them to release at least some sorta source for Exynos.
I already started tweeting them like hell. Yes, they do reply with kind of SAFE sided replies..

If they did it would make the world of difference and Exynos would be on a level playing field in development terms as the likes of Snapdragon. Unfortunately, Samsung have been saying that since the original Galaxy S and it still hasn't happened, and it's clear they never intended to release anything and it was nothing more than lip service in an attempt to sell more handsets by appearing developer friendly. It's broken promises like this which has made reputable developers wash their hands with the Exynos chipset and any phones that use it. Unfortunately, this leaves people with the I9500 in a bit of a predicament if they're not fond of TW as it's likely to be their only option for the foreseeable, if not full stop.

Exynos open source? Highly unlikely and yes it would be much easier building roms, devs wouldn't even need to have the device to build a working ROM.

Devils are not working into the LG G3?

Shocked and disappointed to know that the XDA members are not working in the G3.
One month (or more) after the device was out, no custom recovery has been published, no one has published a post of CM, OmniROM or other ROM that isn't based on LG UI.
I think maybe I made a mistake buying this phone.

Be patient and stop having buyers remorse so soon. Also note that LG is not as popular as Samsung phones so it will take a little more time.

This, plus it JUST was released in the UK - which many of the developers are likely from as well. Also, it's likely this will be more popular than the S5 in the states as well so developer support should be booming.

It will be a bit harder since bootloader is locked and seems so far not unlockable the easy way...
Got my D855 a few days ago, there is no development since the bootloader is locked, once unlocked I'm guessing it will be around a month until the hardware sources are working correctly for CM, and from there the sky is the limit, once CM comes out I will be more then glad to help bring Slim, Beanstalk, AOSB and others to the G3 (I helped the S2 community for a long time bringing them roms)

[Q] 910G Variant Lollipop Firmware

Hello XDA,
I have the 910G variant and I've been waiting for the release OTA or via Kies since the release began but bubkiss.
Sammy mobile literally has dozens of variant firmware and theres plenty of threads on here about cross flashing X to Y or what have you but not a single mention (according to a fair amount of searching) on whether any of the existing ROMs work for the G or whether its going to be released etc.
My question is, does anyone know of any of the variant versions that WOULD/SHOULD work with the 910G or if the firmware is out there and I'm just an idiot?
If someone can recommend a ROM to try within reasonable margins I'll definitely give it a shot and be a guinea pig.
Thanks in advance.

F ROM's will work on our G device with a custom kernel like AEL - but we need the bootloader and modems for our G model first, which we cant do without samsungs release.

From my understanding our modem and bootloader is different from the n910f and therefore we can't flash it on our n910g untill someone finds a custom kernel or sammy releases it. Sucks i know, I'm waiting for lollipop since it was mentioned by Google

It was literally the main reason I bought this phone over the Nexus 6, I had a Note 3 and flashed the early Lollipop leak and that was such an incredible leap in quality I felt the lollipop for the note 4 would make it the best phone on the market by a long shot, especially given the 4.4.4 firmware was already so much better then the usually touchwiz fair.
Oh well, patience is a virtue, if only I could buy it on ebay.
Yep we just gotta wait, sucks but it's android and not ios and since we all love android we have no choice but to wait. The only good thing about ios if you get updates fast, but that's not good enough for me to use that horrible os.

Agreed.
I handle iPhones at work a lot and I have to admit the hardware is gorgeous and Android hasn't totally outdone the iPhone 6 yet in hardware, but the software, the most important part is far and away much better.
Every time I pick up an IP6 and think "man this sure is sexy...maybe the software is better now" I try to navigate through menus and end up playing the "wheres the back button now!" game and I hate it.
I like the design of the iP6, but i absolutely hate the OS with so much hatred lol. I would never go back to iOs. If only you could install android on a ip6...
I'm officially starting to get pissed off enough to consider returning the phone, the rep guaranteed me the Lollipop update would be out for my variant the week it released for all others.
Clearly thats not true.
What is taking so long to release?
Let's hope it'll be out asap.

first of all, relax and take a deep breath.
Lollipop for the N910F is NOT gonna work on G since you don't have the correct bootloader and modem.
so i'm sorry, but you'll have to wait for Lollipop release for the G.
and even though the F roms work on G with kitkat...it still needed a different kernel, and that has to come from sources...that samsung has to release...which takes a looooong time
so sure, you can look at spec sheets and see that F is basically the same as G, but it still won't help boot the rom.
sorry :good:

T-Mobile 5.0 Update Rush

Hey guys are we really rushing lollipop on T-mobile. With all these US carriers talking about bugs in the latest version why would we even want it right now. 5.0 No 5.1 YES. I like cheese.
for me, I'm in no rush. unless lollipop fixes this extremely laggy phone I can care less. this phone, as powerful as the specs say it is, is a slow, laggy, bad camera POS. I'm eligible for jump on 9/25 and it cannot come soon enough. I had a Moto X before this, and I was happy with it. the Note 4 is full of disappointment. I don't see how all of the early reviews were so positive for it, the moto x had embarrassing specs but performed perfect, the camera wasn't good but I preferred it over this one, at least it opened and focused quickly.
I still wouldnt call it a "rush" though when its the slowest to market.
Most of these articles make me like tmo even more. I can wait for greatness. I think sprint use to watch xda closely because some how after every update leak that had problems and xda devs fixed them sprint would release a newer update with those problems gone lol gotta love xda

I still wouldnt call it a "rush" though when its the slowest to market.

Flash Dynamic Pop or Dynamic Kat and it'll change your mind about the phone.
I have been using the unmodified port of SM-N910W8 Lollipop firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t-unmodified-port-sm-n910w8-lollipop-t3072920) for a while now and it has made my phone better. That said i rather wait for the tmo version without bugs instead of right now and render my phone unusable. Also there are many 5.0 roms already out which are infinite better than anything tmo can ever gives us .

for me, I'm in no rush. unless lollipop fixes this extremely laggy phone I can care less. this phone, as powerful as the specs say it is, is a slow, laggy, bad camera POS. Bad camera??? Laggy??? I dunno what phone you're using, but my Note 4 has an AWESOME camera and is faster/smoother than anything I've ever used before. Are you you running straight stock with no root, mods, etc?
You are not alone my friend. As much as I love them. .I finally flashed rapture again last night. Developers are limited as far as how great they can make touch wiz....Samsung as limited because Google dropped a messed up os to begin with its a shame really

I agree. Samsung should not push lollipop to anyphones unless google irons out all the bugs. Right now 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 is out for most. But why not wait for stable OS from google as nexus users will be the testers for us.
Also samsung needs to do lot of testing on stable OS from google because of TW skin

To be fair it's not like Apple and Microsoft put out perfect OS's right out of the box. Granted Apple is a different model but software is software, at some point the decision has to be made to release, bugs and all.
I have become so used to cm12 and now 12.1 and very happy that honestly dont see myself bothering with the official when ever its released
I like orange peanuts. ....oh and I'm loving the modified Canadian Lollipop port!
OTA
I spoke with my friend who works for TMO he told me that they had been testing show failed it has reported back to Samsung takes little longer. He thinks it will release out in late summer. I am disappointed. I wish I had kept note 3 (N900T)

Is Bluetooth working on it? 12.1 I mean also how's the battery. .last I tried it sucked bad
I agree with a lot of what was said here, but if you're on XDA, why not root and flash a custom ROM if you're unhappy with your phone? I've tried at least 4 ROMs for the Note 4 (and many more with the Note 3) and have found at least a couple are almost perfect and most have been far superior to stock in every way. And I'm just talking about normal performance; with root you also have the ability to add and subtract apps and features and theme your device and truly make it yours. With a custom ROM and all the options and performance root brings, we really won't need to update for years from the current OS. But if Samsung would lighten up TouchWiz, the updates would come faster.

G4???? Lmao
BAD ASS NOTE 4
So some people are not happy and wish to stay with their old phones or even want to sell the note because an incremental update is late. LOL, that's f**king absurd.

Haha u getting it?!?! That camera!

G800H sources released!

Seems that Samsung finally coughed up the sources for the G800H. Any developers wetting their panties yet (Looking at you, @jackeagle )? And more importantly, does this mean that this device will finally get some custom ROMs going? The S5 Mini wasnt a popular phone, but still an improvement over the S4, so I'm keeping a close eye on this subforum.
