Z17 Mini S - Bootloop / stuck on Boot Screen - ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini Questions & Answers

Hey guys!
Recently got myself the Z17 Mini S and installed TWRP (chinese version).
Then I rooted the phone, cleaned everything, and installed the latest ROM (found on the Nubia Homepage).
Worked fine, and so I installed GApps.
But I installed the whole package with lots of "useless" apps (Google Reader etc.) and wasn't able to uninstall them for some reason.
So I wiped everything again, cleared the caches, and re installed the ROM.
Now the phone is stuck on the "Nubia" logo when booting up and I can't start it anymore at all (TWRP still works).
I tried wiping and reinstalling the ROM several times, and also tried the older versions of the ROM, but nothing fixed my issue, still stuck on the boot screen.
I'm in a really desperate spot right now, so thanks for any kind of help!

install the rom, reboot. If the phone stucks on the nubia logo, go back to the TWRP, root the phone, reboot, and it will boot normaly

Hey, thanks for replying!
The phone should be rooted ( I managed to do that before it crashed if I recall correctly) and I tried reinstalling the ROM and cleaning everything after that already, without any success.
Here's some more information I can provide:

Ok, got a little update:
I found a way to recover the phone by going into the Nubia emergency recovery and flashing the ROM with it, which makes it work again.
But now the phone isn't rooted anymore and I can't install GApps, because named emergency recovery can't install the GApps .zip.
So I reinstalled TWRP for that, but now it's stuck at the boot screen again!
I don't know how the root the phone without TWRP, but as soon as I install TWRP I can't boot it anymore.
And without root permissions, I can't install GApps with the OpenGApps app either...
edit: just saw your reply on the other thread, I'll give it a try!

Stuck at this screen
I had RR_N_5.8.5 on my z17 mini.
Tried to install LOS15.1 but error:7 was coming continuously.
I used nubia emergency tool 1.1.4 recovery to go back to original ROM as RR was not even allowing reset.
Now stuck at this screen YOU HAVE SHOWN.
adb devices - no device shown
fastboot devices does not show any device
windows device manager shows Qualcom HS-USB 9008 (com14)
nubia emergency tool detects device but can only run recovery, other two options does not work.
Got stuck............................how to flash twrp now............................PLEASE HELP.
==========================
ALL DONE
=========================
I uninstalled all mobile drivers from my windows10.
Rebooted and reinstalled only ZTE and Qualcomm drivers.
Started and done.........................................Installed TWRP without rooting---yes ---without root
When restarted and checked with magisk - it said device not rooted.
Went back to twrp and installed superSU .. and done.
I have problems :
The device is working perfectly ---- many many many thanks for the ROM on oreo.
1. Battery performance is poorer than original - originally this device was never a good performer.
2. THE MAIN ISSUE - twrp can read the SD card, installs file from it but after booting it is not able to access the SD card - says non supported. Tried with 16/32/64/128GB cards. Tried to format SD with it simply can't format and quits after 20% with every card.
3. A typical problem same with A710FD and Z17mini(6GB128GB) - can not receive calls if and only if google phone is not the default app. Tried Drupe, Contacts, True Phone, tru caller and whatever I got on playstore!
Its only 20Hours after installation so may some other issues pop up later. I dont play games or anything. Minimal user in true sense.
BUT AGAIN---MANY MANY THANKS FOR THE HARD WORK TO GIVE THIS ROM.

Help! I screwed up :(

Hey guys... friend of mine asked me to put in a custom ROM to his Hero, tires of waiting for HTC to release a 2.1/2.2 for us here in SE Asia.
The phone had already been rooted, but I could not manage to put in a recovery partition, even trying with the GoldCard method.
So, I dug around and found recommendations to try Droid Explorer, which I did, very nice program!
What I did was to use the "update custom ROM" function to put in the ChocolateEclair ROM
Everything seemed to run fine, phone rebooted, showed the new boot animation, then went to a green screen for a few minutes, but this is normal as per the ROM's details page.
But, since then, it's rebooted, it does the boot animation (hand-drawn droid), over and over again, can't get past that. I can get into bootloader and stock recovery screens, though. I'm thinking I should try to wipe the device again, but I cannot select this option in the recovery, it says to press alt-w but that's a bit hard without a keyboard!
I also tried to connect with adb shell (when in recovery mode) but it tells me it cannot find the shell.
So... have I bricked this poor phone? Right now I am downloading the latest RUU I can find, and hope it will work, but if anyone has any experience and advice to share it will be greatly appreciated!
Hey mate... You should have posted in ChocolateEclair topic. Can a mod merge the topics?
To answer you... This does not mean the phone is bricked. Are you sure you don't have a custom recovery image?(boot with home+power) Please paste me your logcat(adb logcat) and I'll tell you what causes the reboot, there's nothing to worry about.
Hey RaduG,
Thanks for getting back so quick! I posted a general thread as I thought it would not be a problem specific to your mod but rather my method or lack thereof
Now the problem is... I can't run logcat either.:
- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -
when I go to the recovery image I am quite sure it is the stock one (3D exclamation mark with a phone next to it, then loads the reboot/apply update.zip/wipe data menu. There's also a warning "E: can't open /cache/recovery/command" in yellow at the bottom.
How you try to run logcat? "adb logcat"?
Apparently you can reinstall a recovery using that Droid Explorer?.... I'd try that for AmonRa1.6.2 if Radug cant help you once you have supplied a logcat.
Then load into the recovery, do your wipes, and flash again.
..... And please post in GENERAL or QnA next time.
are you able load into armon recovery console?
if yes try wipe everything & reflash others custom rom then wipe again & reflash ChocolateEclair 1.0.1. i also face the same problem just now when i'm at work *playing with roms secretly* ^^"
i load in success without seeing the green screen now =)
& best not to use the ExtremeKernel as not all phone can support as stated on the dev post =)

I'm quite sure this is the case... but I am so far unable to put in any other ROM. When i get into the stock recovery console, I can select the "apply update.zip" option, but pressing the trackball does nothing, same with the factory wipe option. Are there any other button combinations for these? It says Alt+S and Alt+W for these options, but without a physical keyboard, how to do?

Droid Explorer does let me update a new ROM, but... nothing happens on the phone.
As for trying to put in a new recovery through Droid Explorer, it can only do so by pulling the file for the SDcard... which is not detected when the phone is in recovery mode
I tried to run a recent HTC RUU, but it does not detect the phone...
Last option seems to be working from ADB, yes... But half the commands I try end up with the error "- exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2) -"
So, are there any ADB commands I could try, to wipe the device?

The problem is that I rooted the device, but I tried to install a Custom Recovery via Autorec and it didn't work, so I tried Flashify and now if I go to Recovery I got this

Have you checked your phone model by removing back cover or on imei.info ? Make sure it is actually a D802 version coz it is common in lg phones that what it look like is actually not ☺
I also bought a used lg g3 and was happy to have an open d855 due to fake rom installed in it but in fact in real it is sprint ls990.
Having the same problem with a d800
I can still boot in to Android, and gent into download mode, but I haven't test download mode yet, I would like to change te recovery to twrp so I can flash a costum ROM, is there a way of installing another recovery even tho the original recovery seams broken or something?

[SOLVED] Can't boot, can't boot recovery, oem locked, usb debugging disabled

Happened when I was updating twrp:
I downloaded the .img from their website, booted into my older version of twrp, went to flashing pressed the butting in the bottom right corner, selected the file and selected 'recovery'
Said it was successful, so I rebooted, then it wouldn't do anything anymore except for fastboot.
1. Can't boot into recovery
2. Can't boot normally
3. USB debugging disabled
4. oem locked
Only thing I can enter is fastboot.
I followed this guide, but no luck on my end.

Have you tried this?

and
All in one toolbox by mauronofrio.
I my self had lost recovery myself and flashed stock image in toolbox and then flashed image from above link to restore to stock and started custom rom process again.
Should not erase twrp once recovered if it has reflash your previous version of twrp or hybrid version.
Hope this helps.

toolbox should still help you unlock bootloader again
Just use the Qualcomm factory restore image to return the phone to original shape of things.

I have no idea how I would do this without being able to flash anything.
Do you mean that the Qualcomm download program also crashes like fastboot? Sounds like you either have some problems with your windows installation or perhaps you haven't searched for and downloaded the Qualcomm restore if your still trying to flash the ordinary way instead of the emergency way.

Literally JUST finished with this guide, and my OP2 is alive again! I was going to come back and post. Thanks for the link.
Anyone trying to use this guide without success:
There's one very important step I somehow missed. You MUST disconnect your phone, hold the power button for ~15-20 seconds until it's off, and hold the Volume+ button, THEN plug it back in. Your computer will make the "device connected" sound, but the screen will stay black. THIS IS OK! That means you're in a special recovery, which is where you need to be for the tool.
I also installed the certificate file in the folder I downloaded, then rebooted (it did not work before a reboot, but did work after).
So, the steps:
1. Download the files, make sure your signature signing for drivers is off.
2. Install the trusted certificate, then the driver.
3. Reboot PC
4. Power off phone (hold power for 15-20 secs), hold volume+, then connect through USB (wait for device connected sound, screen on phone will still be black)
5. Run the tool (I ran as admin, not sure if that's required)
6. Weep with joy that you finally found a solution that works.

IT WONT LET ME go to recovery mode,. when i tried going to recovery mode, it only shows the oppo logo with a "recovery mode" name located beyond the oppo logo, then reboots again and again. i remember flashing a oppo f1 twrp rom to my phone using the "Official TWRP App" from google play,
link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp
but i dont know if it is successfully flashed, because i does not show any signs such as "TWRP IS SUCCESSFULLY FLASHED, BLAH BLAH BLAH", im so confused now if the flashed were neither successful or not, it only shows nothing when i pressed flash to recovery, then i uninstalled it quickly. That is my conclusion, what do you think

The only reason is the wrong version of SuperSu. Maybe I use custom made SuperSu for OnePlus 3T.
Before I flashed that SuperSu Zip file using TWRP there is no such problem. Only after flash SuperSu cause this issue .. ?
Before this flash, LG G2's is a new fresh install custom LineageOS for LG G2. Everything is OK. Only no root access. TWRP already installed.
LG G2 still can go to Download Mode as shown by holding the power button and connect USB cable to PC. But the problem is the PC & laptop cannot install the required driver properly. I think I've tried installed/reinstall all the suggested drivers but to no avail.
I even cannot enter the recovery mode using the key combination. When the phone is power on, it will continue to show that Boot certification verify alert.. Ermm ...
Just now just praying PC / laptop can detect and use tools installed on my computer to get to boot into the recovery mode. But is it still possible?
Or this totally means that I will never can use my LG G2 anymore?
Thanks guys.

wtf same thing happend to me
This happened to me too once.
Security error normally means that you should have flashed bumpboot.zip after supersu.zip.
You should still be able to get into TWRP (PWR+Down until Logo appears, then Up+Down).
Some LG drivers seem to miss something. Try older versions or alternative generic ADB drivers.
TOT method always worked for me in the end.
Install SRK Tools to fix boot partition. After that, you could enter in download mode easily.
Edit: LinageOS have your exclusively SuperSU. Next time, install the proper version in lineageOS Website. That problem happen to me, same problem...
Thanks to all.
But whatever fix you suggested, first the laptop/PC needs to detect the phone and install the driver correctly first right?
That is where I'm stuck now.
Even my office laptop also have the same problem, cannot install the driver properly.
Any help?
Thanks.

But now it seems that my Lineage OS has become corrupted and I don't think I want to install it anymore because the display is very poor in brightness.
So my next question is with such condition ie improper Lineage OS installation on the phone right now, how do I get back to the latest stock OS.
How do I start?
Thank you so much for the help.
After flashing SuperSU do as @MB525 suggests, flash Boot Image Bumper/ bumpboot-v1.0-blastagator-signed.zip
