Official OREO has rolled out - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discuss

Just got official AT&T OREO update. Little over 1.4gb build CRC2

I received an OTA as well. 1407.35MBs. Still downloading!

Mine still says software up to date. I hate att.

Use BK Disabler and clear the data for Software Update. You should be able to check again. I believe you can only check once every 24 hours or so. Good Luck.

I just used Odin to go back to nougat and as soon as I could get to my settings I was able to get the OTA.

Easiest way to keep checking is to advance your phone's clock ahead one day then try again. Just remember to turn the auto clock detection setting back on.

set your date for tomorrow (28th) and it should work. that's what I had to do

What do I need to do to get the official update if I installed the zip?

I've installed att firmware on my unlocked phone and i still haven't got any updates. it still says software is up to date. i even tried changing the date.

Go in and change the date on your phone ahead one day or 2 and it should let you check for updates again.

Mine did that as well for months. My last update was when I bought the phone back in Nov. I did the update.zip method and used Smart Switch to backup all to MicroSD card.

Received this update today without needing to change the date. Running nicely so far, just wish the gif keyboard wasn't removed for us.

I have it on mine as you can see in this screenshot. When I heard the update was coming today, I factory reset before I took it. When it booted up, it updated during the setup process.
Edit: wait, are we talking about the same thing? Do you mean the feature where you can draw a gif message?

Not the live message, I have that. There is a gif option on the keyboard from other carriers. For some reason AT&T left it out.

In developers options there is the ability to change Bluetooth Audio Codec to SBC (default) to Aptx, Ldac, etc. If you change that it doesnt stick and it resets itself to SBC. Bummer.
Also the only option that does seem to seem concerning Bluetooth and Developers Options is Bluetooth AVRCP Version. AVRCP 1.4 is default but changing to AVRCP 1.6 seems to stick.

Meant to post this last night. Here's screenshots of my for full use of the OTA Oreo. I'm a teacher on spring break so I messed around with it a lot yesterday getting all my settings and apps set up.

So I decided to try the Samsung Experience 9. The badge number for Gmail isn't showing the proper numbers. Anything beyond one unread email shows some stupid huge numbers, such as 4 unread email, but the badge showed 169 ... LOL So, this is still buggy.

Yeah this is the only thing about the new update that is bugging me. The badge numbers can be way off. Other than that I am really enjoying the new update and my phone is so fast now.

Don't know what's worse... badges with wrong numbers or badges that don't come on at all. I get none at all. And I even factory reset before I took the update. I got no clue, even after spending tons of time digging through settings

Voicemail: "A mandatory update is now avaliable."

Anybody get a message about a mandatory voicemail update? I tried updating and it keeps failing.
Yeah I updated it and it installed. It would continue to bug the crap out of me if I kept saying no. Regardless, I use Google voice for voicemail anyways.

Thanks! since you said you got it to update, I figured it would be related to some sprint app I froze in TitaniumBackup. I unfroze it all, rebooted and it updated successfully.
As far as I know every new phone has that mandatory upgrade, my step-son's Transform did, my wife's Shift did and my Hero did after the swap out (and I bet my Shift will when I get it tomorrow). It should work, just don't exit out of the status screen when you're downloading it, if you hit home or go to another app it will fail.
got the same update and installed just fine. Besides the voice to text, not much is new...
it took me 10 or so trys before mine worked. I updated my PLM first before it actually worked. pretty annoying.
Does anyone know if this might undo root? I just got this notification but I don't wanna install any updates til I know its cool for sure

it won't bother root
It will bug you forever with a new "Try our FREE new voicemail to text demo" button on every single voicemail you listen to, though. Wish I could just go back to the old version without hard resetting. It's like having a Sprint ad on every voicemail. (edit: it's free for a month, then $2 a month thereafter)

I was able to delete that little ad just like any other voicemail and don't get bothered by it any more. Do other people have this problem too? I must be just missing it or something.
Edit - I thought you meant the actual message...
I flashed the Evo(Shift)Nonsense rom a couple of days ago and had this same problem with the update failing repeatedly. Eventually I had had enough and on a whim I found the backup of the updated voicemail apk from when I was still on stock and installed it...viola no more nags and the VVM is updated. File attached if you want to try it...

Thanks alot hdmunger! That .Zip worked for me!
Just letting the 3g download the update has always fixed the issue for me

Voicemail update T.5.2.024

For those who haven't seen this yet, there is an update for voicemail.
It allows you to save voice mails to your SD card...
Oh that's cool, thanks.
Can't imagine why this wasn't a feature already, but thanks for the heads-up. Luckily I guess I never had voicemails I regretted losing between my few wipe/reinstall cycles.

Any idea where the updated .apk would be? I pulled this one from /system/apps
You can open Voicemail then press the menu button and scroll down to check for update. I just tried it and it began to download, I'm in a ****ty area and it was taking forever so I had to cancel, but the option is there.
Here you go. This was pulled from my Titanium Backup. I checked the AndroidManifest.xml file just to be sure and it is indeed the update.

S8/S8+ Oreo Beta is live!!!

There's 10,000 slots available instead of the Sammobile reported 7500 slots available. Once you click a few agreements, you get in automatically but then nothing happens. You have to force the update by going into Settings\Software update. The update happens normally then. The settings menu has changed quite a bit, Oreo is MUCH snappier (especially reboots), and some icons have changed. The warning in the last screenshot comes up automatically about 20 seconds after each reboot. Good luck getting in!!! :highfive:

The OTA downloads to the /cache folder which non-rooted users don't have access to. I wasn't rooted and I don't think you can be in order to join the Beta. Trust me, Sammobile would have posted it already if this was possible.

You have to be either a T-Mobile or Sprint customer or have the unlocked model. It won't appear for anyone else. It will ONLY show up in the Samsung+ app. If you don't see it on the main screen, use the 3 dot menu on the left to see if it shows up there like the screenshot I posted.

Sure, you could flash the modem if anyone could get the OTA but I'm pretty sure it'd be quite difficult. Since we're not rooted, you'd literally have to catch the OTA transmitting over your WiFi network onto your PC and then extract it. Which reminds me....
@bogdi1988 - Perhaps it's not showing up for you because you're not connected to a WiFi network. Make sure you're logged in to your Samsung account in Galaxy Apps and that all your Samsung Apps are up to date (the only way they update is when on WiFi.) Then check the Samsung+ app to see if it shows up for you. Hope this helps.

I updated hours ago and have rebooted several times since updating. I don't think I'd have a chance of finding the file name at this point. It would've been best to start a logcat right before initializing the OTA.

My "upgrade" did not go well. Turns out that package disabler pro is not playing nice with this update. I kept getting Android system has stopped and couldn't even load the main home screen. I gave up finally and hard reset and resintalled all my apps. I also had a pretty bad problem with the battery draining faster than it was charging on a wall plug. Factory reset was a pain to reinstall everything (still ongoing as I need apps, I reinstall them) but the battery issue has disappeared. Can't tell if WiFi is any better. Opinions on this release would be most welcome.

You're complaining about a third party app that disables stock apps that is NOT updated to support Oreo yet not playing nice with a Beta build??? Absurd. I'm quite sure the upgrade went as smoothly for everyone else as it did me.
As for my feedback, I haven't noticed a single hiccup with the build. It doesn't feel like a Beta. It seems like it could've been a final/official build.

LOL, that wasn't a "complaint" that was an observation. As noted by the no complaint and an observation comment. As far as not noticing it's a beta, would that be between the 15 or so times per minute that the software pops up a warning that this is beta software and may not work as well as expected and may cause problems? That not obvious it's a beta message? Also, the bad battery drain was an issue. That shouldn't happen no matter what.

Yes it is new bootloader. I expect this for around 2 weeks now. Seems like it is little harder to flash anything on this bootloader.

Yeah I'm installing it now myself.
Updated mine but facial recognition is now not working. Under settings, I see under Screen Lock Type I still have password, Face and Fingerprints as an option but "Face Recognition" is now grayed out. If I go into the Screen Lock Type setting, Face shows the switch to the right but that option is grayed out as well and can't be changed.

Might want to try going to lock screen and security settings then go to other security settings and clear credentials. I haven't had that same problem since I updated today so I haven't tried it on this phone but it worked on another Android device that I have when it greyed out Security Options.

What's changing: Network performance enhancements, stability improvements, other various updates and fixes, and Android device security updates, including KRACK Wi-Fi vulnerability fix and BlueBorne fix (on SPLs September 1 or later)
I'd say that the KRACK fix itself is a good reason to update.

Anytime you do an OTA the Substratum app developers suggest uninstalling all of the themes. Nothing is broke on the device it's just causing an issue with seeing the home screen/settings.
This is also why using ADB to uninstall the layers would fix the issue.
Just for future reference for everyone.

Latest ATT Update (March '18) - new Messaging/Gallery apps?

Did anyone get the latest security update yet from AT&T?
Looks like it was security patches, but my Messaging and Gallery apps changed.
I am OK with the gallery app, and the Messaging app is OK with the exception the text is pretty damn small! I know you can pinch to zoom, but I am unable to find anyway to keep the ZOOM setting I selected in the new Messaging app, as soon as I back out and go back to a person I was chatting with, the text is back to being small.
Just confirming I'm not the only one with this issue.
Chris
Oh, believe me, you are not alone. Mine is doing the same thing. It is also showing replies to texts in white text boxes with white type. I had to switch my purchased themes 4 times to find one that didn't do this! I also lost the ability to schedule messages, and lost all of my quick responses! This is VERY annoying.
Krista
Ditto here, white text on white background for incoming texts. Exceptionally annoying.
A few people have complained on the AT&T support forums (https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung-Discussion-Support/Text-bubble-issue/m-p/5452599/thread-id/35765), but it seems the forum moderators are going thru and deleting threads and replies. And so far, the only "answer" wasn't an answer at all, just a canned response pointing to a tutorial (that wasn't there last night, btw) on how to change messaging settings.
If anyone has any ideas, please let us know.

I don't understand what you mean, please explain.
It's another SMS app, you can download it on the playstore.
Thanks everyone for confirming it wasn't just me. It's a shame because the stock txting app wasn't pretty bad for the past ~2 years....here's hoping AT&T steps up, otherwise I will go third party too...
Pulse is awesome. I have the paid subscription and can access my txts from any device.
First, new "update" fubared text messaging; now, there's something running in the background that's turning it into a hotplate & sucking the battery down in just a couple hours, instead of decent consumption all day long. Even after a reboot & running the "save battery" app in Settings, it's still warm to the touch, & draining the battery too quickly.
Does AT&T have plans to fix this, or is this a push to force an upgrade? (this I put to them on their forum)
SAMSUNG-SM-G891A
Android. 7.0
Patch level January 1, 2018 (so no shenanigans about "security enhancements" in this one, they ain't there)
There were betas for these updates for several months now. There must have been some big changes under the hood and this one came as a 500MB update rather than a 35MB security patch. Probably stuck with any bugs until the next major update which will most likely be Oreo. All of this is just speculation on my part.
I didn't receive any notification on my S7 Active regarding BETAs - how do you sign up for those? I would have gladly given feedback on this Messaging app....
They don't have a beta program open to the public as far as I know. Over on the firmware update thread, user khaliullov posts a link to firmware and uncovered a way to directly download firmware from ATT's servers. That's where I've seen betas for this update for the past few months. You don't want to have those betas installed as they offer no upgrade path, so you would be stuck with the issues that whatever beta you used came with.
Got it - thanks for the info!
Looks like time to investigate rooting the phone...
Just got prompted for another update - let's see what this one does...

Same here, can't really see any difference in anything so far.
No difference here either, unfortunately. I was really hoping the Messages app would be updated. This new one SUCKS.
Is there anyone would could grab the old messaging app, make it a APK and then let us sideload it? I would be VERY interested in this, as would others.... this new Messaging app is junk!
The new messaging app is really weird, but all the features are there.... you hafta hit the + sign & the features come up. To schedule messages and more.
Could be worse, half your account could be stuck in Spanish. It's been well over a year and they still can't do anything about it. Lol.
