Maps API not working on mobile data/No full access to mobile network - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
i got that weird problem on my p8 lite.
If i am on mobile network, Apps wich are using the google maps API won't load the map. It stays grey instead. But if i opened the App before in a Wifi connection, the app/ inapp map will work on mobile data until i reboot my phone.
The maps API is not the only problem. Some app push notification work only in WIFI, too.
I tried things like using the Xposed Module "Fake Wifi Connection", changin APN, but nothing worked.
If you have a suggestion, it would be very nice!:good:
Thanks and sorry for my Englisch

Stock Youtube application cannot connect?

Hello,
it seems the stock Youtube application cannot connect? Both browsers (Opera and IE) are working fine, but when Youtube application is launched (either manually, or by a link in IE), it searches for connection for a while ("Downloading..."), then it says it cannot connect ("There was a connection error while attempting to download data. Retry?")
I am using 3G connection - is it maybe that youtube application works only over wifi (I kind of remember something like that...)
Thank you.
Fixed it... legacy ATT user here, needed to add proxy settings

A-gps without the "A"

Does anyone know if it is possible to use the GPS receiver without any network data usage?
I have disabled the "use data network" option in settings>location but whenever I start an application requiring GPS, the data network icon automatically appears and indicates that data is being sent/received.
I know that Google Maps does require network for downloading maps etc. but the data network is also being activated by CoPilot and GPS Test, hence my assumption that it is the GPS radio that activates it.
Any advice on how to effectively disable network usage by GPS is highly appreciated.
Use APNdroid to disable mobile data completely.

On a similar note:
I would like a program that caches all the maps for the UK to my SD card, so I can use my phone as a SatNav without needing a data connection of any kind. So the phone worked out the route instead of Google servers as well. If you know what I mean.
Does anyone know of such an application?
I think there are a number of "offline" map applications available.
Personally, I have used MapDroyd which by the way is free, but unfortunately doesn't have a directions feature.
brut.all made some modifications on the stock Google Maps to enable offline maps and international navigation. His mod is somewhere in xda-developers (search for his name).

I think all the mapdata from the UK might take up a lot of space on your SD-card
there are offline navigation packages like Navigon for Android or sygic
the have the mapdata compressed into special packages
what I'm looking for is a map manager that can handle my own maps like military maps scanned into JPG images
i once had a program for WM5 http://www.sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=241 that did the trick but cannot find it in android

Google iGo my way, this app turns your legend into gps-navigator. Map of teh whole russia takes about 80 megabytes, so it's not the problem
Your guys don't get it, I too have the same problem, it's not a question of maps but enabling the GPS also enables your data connection for some reason, could be the "assisted" GPS kicking in.
Google Sky Map or just a simple application like GPS Status seems to enable the data connection, even when "Mobile internet" is turned off in the Settings and both applications doesn't require data, at least the first one doesn't.
In Sky Map, having cell tower positioning works fine but as soon as you enable GPS, it turns on the data connection!
My point exactly
No I got the question, and I don't know exactly how to switch off agps. I (and I guess others who have listed offline map application) was actually answering the question in post #3.
I think (haven't tried) once you have rooted you phone, you can change /system/etc/gps.conf and remove all three urls - it might stop the gps from working altogether though.

[Q] Froyo Supperram - internet browser works, rest of internet related apps don't

Hi there,
I'm having a bit of a strange problem that I haven't found anywhere in the forum:
1)running froyo superram V 1.5.
2) 2.12.50 radio
3)energy rom dec 13 version
during install i cannot connect to my google account via 3g /hdspa / umts or whatever the data connection through my mobile phone provider is. wlan no problem.
after having done so and switching wireless lan off and only using my mobile phone data plan i can:
a) suft the web through the internet browser using mobile data connection (so i assume my apn settings are ok, [i'm with eplus, germany])
b)but i cannot ping the web in the settings dialog, nor can i use the marketplace or use any other internet using application
c) all of the above, i.e. marketplace work through wifi
what can i do? and why is this a selective issue????
any help and input is appreciated!
merry christmas from germany!!
data connection
I am having the same issue. Everything works fine except web related apps, unless i'm connected to wifi.
dear thomygunz72,
you may have misunderstood me and i don't want to get this question taken off the intendet track:
i can browse the web without wifi using my mobile data connection.
at the same time i'm on the web using mobile data, none of the other inet related apps work!
so I'm not one of the regular cases in which mobile data connection doesn't work at all, it however only works SELECTIVELY!
thats my problem.
hope anyone might be able to help!
Just wondering if you found a resolution to this issue, as i am having the same problem.
Internet app is ok, email and gmail apps are fine, however anything else just "fails to respond to server" when trying to use them, including the XDA app and facebook and twitter.
Any help to this would be greatly appreciated.
I don't see why you can access the internet but not via applications. That sounds a bit fishy to me, and I'd personally be tempted to try a different ROM and see if the problem persists.
First of all though, I would definitely check my APN settings to make sure they're correct. You should be able to find the info you need here...
http://www.unlocks.co.uk/gprs_settings.php
From the home page, bring up the menu and go to settings, wireless & networks, mobile networks, access point names. Check the selected values in there against the values on the site linked above.
browser works just fine but internet applications dont
I found a few posts about my problem, but no solution whatsoever. I got and HD2 using Nexus One ROM, the thing is I use the default browser with no problems but when I try to run facebook, twitter, downloading files or google talk there's an error message saying that there was an error and I should try later or there was a timeout. I checked my APN and everything is the way it is supposed to be. I figured so since I can browse perfectly. Is there an option where I can force applications to use the APN I set up? I hope you can help me on this matter.

So it runs fine but whenever i install an app, either from the play store or out, the app installs and then a key icon appears in the notification panel and this cuts out my internet. Both the wifi and mobile data do not work. Once i restart the device, the key disappears and the internet works until i install an app again. Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.

Well the key icon means a VPN is active and I'm sure that's why your internet doesn't work after. Do you have any sketchy apps installed?

Thanks for the reply. Well i do have a vpn installed but i dont know why that would activate and cut off the internet....And yes i have a couple of sketchy apps but they work fine for other users though...Strange thing is that when i do activate my vpn, i can access the internet again and the key still remains. My vpn uses a different symbol than the key though. Once i deactivate the vpn, the internet is unavailable again

Depending on where you got your VPN and your apps I would suggest uninstalling all of them and downloading only from trusted sources and devs.
