I just don't like the white. I hope substratum team can work there magic. I'm sure they will. As long as I can make it dark I can be happy.

Just for laughs... let's say this actually is the final design and look. It still goes right along with the rounded, colorful, flat, and simple Material Design that Google had implemented way back in 2014 for 5.0 Lollipop. So this argument of "copy" is invalid.
Also: Without Google there is no Android, and without Android there is no Substratum. Know your roots!

You do realize that a good portion or some of the elements are most likely placeholder elements, right? With a really early preview there are always going to be missing features, themes, etc. This is essentially an Alpha release, which means maybe 0.01 percent of users will ever see this version in person.
An example of a placeholder would be how Amazon deals with video game release dates for games that have no official release window at the time. They like to use the "December 31" with 20XX year as a placeholder until the game has an official release date. Does that mean every game comes out on December 31st of every year? No. Many companies use placeholder text, images, and even themes until the final version/product is ready. The final product may look similar to early builds, but there is a lot of time between early stages and consumer release. Expect some changes, tweaks, and other visual elements in later versions at the very least.
Just for laughs, let's say this is the final design and look. It still goes along with the rounded, colorful, flat, and simple Material Design that Google had implemented way back in 2014 for 5.0 Lollipop. So this argument of "copy" is invalid.

I wish more people would think like you! Trying to make one centralized theme that fits everyone is not going to happen. Some like colorful, some like dark, some like rounded, some like squared. Everything is all about choice, personal preference, and opinion. Same goes for smartphones... trying to make a device that has the look, feel, and features that will appeal to everyone is next to impossible. There will always be someone who disagrees, doesn't like, or prefers something else. It's human nature, and part of what makes us an individual. :good:

far too many rumours and photoshopped stuff going around these days. easy to get excited and think that a lot of stuff is coming, only to find out it was a fake or was removed from the final released version.
As long as it's configurable (i.e.: I can get rid of it!), the interface doesn't bother me.

But if you really think about it, Chris is using ADW Launcher. You could get that from the market. I honestly don't think CM is a big deal anymore. The only feature I want is the trackball wake.
I already posted this video

If you think CM only adds a viable launcher you're crazy and haven't really dug into it.
Everytime I switch back to Google's offering of their OS I'm flabbergasted at how paltry and lean it is.
Did you even bother to read the changelog? UI changes are just a small part of what CM has to offer. There are plenty things "under the hood" that makes the phone way better than the ones running stock Froyo.

The android OS is so minimalist to begin with. Short of changing a few pngs here and there There's really very little reason to do so. The majority of the time on a smart phone is spent inside applications.
The benefits of CM are really all under hood stuff, and tweaks.

2.3.4 - Screen Animation/Transition is Horrendous

normal android devices, and the atrix on 2.2, use some standard nice screen transitions. to enter an app, zoom in. entering each subsequent screen the page swoops from the right. and backing out the screen swoops back to the left.
now on 2.3.4, EVERY single transitino is a zoom in/out, and i have never seen such an ugly horrendous idea before. anyone know if there is a way to bring the device back to the stock method? maybe in custom ROM with frameworks edit or something?
just can't comprehend how someone thought "hey, this looks great, let's change it to this way". am i crazy?
Yeh it sucks, but you'll get used to it...

Yes.
But to fix your "problem" go to settings, display, then animation. Pick no animation to get rid of any transition. I don't think there is a way to get back to froyo transitions.
And now that I think about it, I don't remember it ever swooping left or right. I had a zoom in to enter an app and a hard cut home when leaving an app.
Oh it swooped left and right, I just confirmed this on 2.2. Its the standard android way. We read left to right. Right is forward, left is backwards, its a very valuable ui element to all android phones flow.
Of course for now I disabled animations, but that looks bad too. I just can't believe it, I truly am blown away by this.
I don't c anything wrong with them

I get it, but I am saying that I've not hated something so much and been this annoyed at something in the last 10 years. I literally hate it with a passion and ruins the experience totally for me. Its that bad for me.
Edit: and yes I do have dev experience and will see how if possible to add it back so but this isn't a simple theme solution as the transitions are likely part of the moto frameworks or similar. I'll definitely look and try to learn more. I committed a couple hundred lines of code to the cyanogen repository last year and it got merged in to final, but I'm not so great in the grand scheme of these awesome devs.

need stable ROM, then themes, then hacks/mods, then little things like animations. usually how it goes. we dont have a completely stable (custom) ROM. that i know of that is. like MIUI, CM7.

Well for reference, gingerbread on all devices uses the standard method. Zoom in/out for the entry and exit point of the app to home screen, with all screen changes inside the app swoops left and right for forwards and backwards. Only moto changed to all zooms on gb, and they had it right on froyo.
All zooms actually messes you up a bit if you're doing some fast navigating around the device.

If you would have read on the right side , $5.00. I think it looks pretty cool & worth supporting. Can you create that & if so how many hours will you have to put in to make sure it works on all platforms ( excluding GD Apple) ? I've noticed you have a tendency to jump to conclusions although I agree with 90% of your posts.
Cheers my friend & have a pint on me,

Edit: I forgot to mention, take a look thru that site if you feel so inclined. I only look thru the tech category as that's where my interests are, I think you'll find it interesting. Nice to know there are still creative minds out there.
$5 per donation, yes. But they claim they need $50k to get the project released, and I call shenanigans on that.
Could I make something similar? Sure. I'm a professional developer by trade, have been for 25 years, and assuming I had the time available, I doubt it'd take me much more than a couple of months to write. A homescreen launcher that though, whilst a complex app, is not going to cost $50k to develop unless your programmers are massively overpaid, or they're way overstaffed; not really something Kickstarter actually meant for.
Look at all the other homescreen apps out there; some very mature and excellent products. Not seen ANY of them trying their luck on Kickstarter before, and with good reason, too.
I wish these guys' success, and I'll happily pay even up to $10-£15 for their app assuming it's as good as it looks on the video, but not until it's on the market. I'm not paying a single cent for vapourware, which is all it is right now.

$50k for a kickstarter? First instinct is yes... it is too high. But look at Instagram.
ONE
BILLION
DOLLARS
For an app. Not a company, an app.
Throw all common sense to the wind now. But at least, $50k will buy the devs a lot of pizza and beer while they toy with this idea.
I hope this comes out, looks so good.

I guess but at this time with the nexus p there was a lot more development and more then that a lot more development Community involved. I wonder if the Verizon exclusive mixed with Google's inability to keep them in stock on the Play Store the problem.
I think I could care less this time around. I think it has enough mods. The performance on this phone is already unreal. And battery life is more than anyone could ask for
I am bored, however, understanding that an alpha TWRP, beta su, and no xposed yet to be a reasonable impediment for development. Honestly, I am really happy with what is offered so far that maybe I should focus on improving other areas of my life?

I don't get this comment at all. So they changed things under the hood to lead people away from devices that are (in my opinion) usually used by people that don't care to mod so wouldn't know the difference between how easy or hard it is to mod or not mod..
Show me where any Nexus device was sold as a development device.
There are growing pains plain and simple. And some folks (op) need to realize these guys don't get paid and don't work at anyone's schedule but their own.
Android evolves. It has in the past and very smart people were able to figure it out then and very well may do it now.
It'll happen.
Give it time

Thing is it is a tad pretentious to complain about or suggest that the device isn't meeting expectations because people aren't putting in enough work fast enough to appease someone's desire to flash.
If someone is that impatient they should've stayed where they were and waited until the device matured a bit more.
That's my perspective on it.

I think I could care less this time around. I think it has enough mods. The performance on this phone is already unreal. And battery life is more than anyone could ask for

My days of crack flashing are over. Stock rooted with TWRP and Elemental kernel and I'm happy. When more custom ROM's are released I'm sure I'll try a couple but I'm not getting board with my XL. Still the best phone I have had.

Same here! And I love making ROMs and cleaning them up! But for now I am happy with Elemental X and stock.

Blame Google. They changed they way stuff gets flashed n stored. On previous Google devices it was super easy. The pixel isnt a developer phone but a main street device. One to lure Samsung n iPhone users away from those devices

Im smart, I think? Nahhh... Im not. But if I was I would say... It has evolved like stated. Now we have to worry about slots, Kernels, recovery, etc...
Things have radically changed! Its not going to be as easy in the past. Users are bound to mess up there phones which will require more support, etc... This is for sure! Once TWRP gets 100% I will be posting...
Edit: Actually Nexus devices ARE sold as Developer devices...

Yep! Agreed 100%!
Edit: I dont want to just make a ROM with the same system image then add a script to mod it. Thats just me though... I like editing the ROM and making it user editable...
Looking forward to Clean ROM pixel XL!
