Turning the International version of unlocked S8 to the US version of T-Mobile - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello,
I have recently purchased an S8 on newegg.com (Samsung Galaxy S8 G950FD Dual SIM GSM Unlocked) and wanted to see how I could get the T-Mobile bootloader on the phone, as I have noticed that my data speeds have been extremely slow compared to my old + other phones that were US versions and came with T-Mobile software. Currently, there are no options for VoLTE, Enhanced Network options, etc. that I usually find, even though I am on the T-Mobile network and went to their store to get a new SIM card. I found instructions here to switch to any carrier firmware 100%, but wasn't sure if this would ultimately help achieve my goals of increasing network speeds on my phone. Also, it calls to download and install "G950W firmware", but I wasn't sure if it would be okay since my phone is G950FD.
Here are the phone specs that I have pulled:
CP: G950FXXU1AQL5
CSC: G950FOXM1AQL5
Model: SM-G950F/DS
Am I correct to assume that once I follow those instructions, it should be relatively straight forward, and would make my phone as if I had bought it from the T-Mobile store (US version)? Are there any changes to the instructions that I need to make for my phone specifically?

I bought mine as an unlocked Verizon phone but use ATT. I downloaded Samsung Smart Switch on my Windows PC. When I started it I was able to update the firmware to the layest.. When the phone rebooted afterwards a message popped up on the phone saying that I had "Switched SIM Card Carrier" and then proceeded to download the ATT S8 apps and swapped the bootloader to an ATT bootloader. All VZW apps were removed as well and ATT native apps work now including visual voicemail and number sync with Samsung Gear 2.

just re-read your post... so you updated your phone via the software update, and once rebooted, you got the carrier's bootloader?
I'm trying that now.

It finished and just rebooted the phone without asking me anything about SIM card changes or carrier settings. Now I just have Android Oreo instead of Nougat.

Sorry man, it worked for me. My phone is a Samsung S8 G950u so it may be different but I can only attest to what worked on my particular phone. I bought it as an unlocked phone on eBay and it came with Verizon firmware. It sealed to match my ATT SIM after updating with Smart Switch.

no problem. it was def worth a shot.
so after doing some more self research I guess that I shouldn't follow those instructions from the link that I provided since that is for "G950U", and I have a "G950F". any ideas on how I could get Tmobile stuff on the G950F?

Sm-g935u for t-mobile

Hi
Has anyone tired SM-G935U for T-Mobile does wifi calling works, and video calling.
I gave it a go yesterday. I would not recommend it. It seems like it is causing issues, if you follow the thread on it. Also if you are on the July 1st security patch (the update that came out on 07/08/2016) then trying to flash the G935U firmware will softbrick your device. Either way the best way to get back to stock is to use Smart Switch and re-initialize the phone. You will lose all of your internal data either way.

Ok thanks for the infor. Did wifi and video calling worked. I'll wait until G935U gets firmware update.
Are you asking about SM-G935U firmware on the SM-G935T or using the SM-G935U on the T-mobile network?

SM-G935U firmware on the SM-G935T
Didn't try with the latest FW, but when I tried installing before I constantly softbricked my phone.

SM-G935T is on v3 while SM-G935u is on v2 which is causing the softbrick .
Have anyone tried this recently? as of October 1st? Reports on the AT&T forum seem to suggest that it's working now.
where is the link at for the new G935U UPDATE FOR TMO
this is encouraging please keep us informed of any progress
I have the SM-G935U Olympic edition running on T-Mobile with the latest firmware PG9, Aug. 1st patch and I can see LTE+ every now and then. I do also see the option for WIFI-Calling and VOLTE. I can not verify if they worked properly but the options are there. Im not rooted because I still want Samsung Pay for now. ROM seems fast and good battery life and no T-Mobile BLOAT I was able to uninstall (yes uninstalled not disable) even the samsung email app and samsung+.

It looks like the bootloader for the Unbranded version has increased. This should allow us to switch from T-mobile to U since they are now both at 4.
If you follow the release of older firmware it coincides with new bootloader revisions. If so then the AT&T, T-mobile and Unbranded version are all now at bootloader 4 which allows us to flash any one of them.
For example, if you look at the history of firmware releases for the T-mobile variant, you'll note the number has changed when the bootloader has been updated.

T-Mobile Firmware for AT&T

Hi guys,
I wanted to make sure if this version is compatible with my AT&T S7 edge (SM-G935A)
Here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/odin-apk1-tmobile-tmbg935ttmb4apk1-t3494724
Can you guys tell me if this works fine on the att phone? I have bootloader version 2. I'm getting tired of the ATT version that blocks the cool features (e.g. Identify unsaved callers)
Also, can you guys tell me which version of Odin works best with this firmware (don't want to get fail and brick my phone)
I hate to say this, but I think my phone stopped receiving updates from ATT (because I don't want to keep changing my sim card, my sim card is T-Mobile(Metro) and I read the threads that said that in order to update they have to put the ATT sim card. I don't want to do that since my sim card keep coming out of the card (atleast I got in the tray and works)
Anyways, can someone confirm this is compatible with the firmware?
Thanks

Yes you should be fine. I did use this particular on my 935a ATT S7 Edge. Only thing that did not work on my behalf was Wifi Calling. Since you have a TMobile sim in an ATT phone it could work. The Odin I used was Prince's Odin in the Root thread.

Thanks! Well, first of all, my bootloader version is 2. Should I download the T-Mobile firmware bootloader v2 or the latest one(v4)?
One question, whats the difference between home_csc and csc? Is it wiping data? Does using home_csc works with it? If not, I am fine to try csc version.
Honestly I have to check when I get home. Currently at work still. With bootloader you can always upgrade but you can NEVER downgrade. It would result in a fail.

AT&T Nougat ROM Carrier aggregation

On my S7 edge,i have flashed between all the different roms but since my HD Voice,Wi-Fi Calling, and VoLTE (All very important features for me) don't work, I reverted to my stock rom. the carrier aggregation says "CA-not configured 00" and was getting 50% worse speeds than my two year old iPad Air 2. I have ran it on many different cell towers which I know have the Carrier aggregation enabled but it sill wouldn't connect.
It may have gotten disabled somehow. CA can be enabled/disabled in the Service Menus

It seems that the code to get there has been disabled in 7.0
AT&T variant had a code on MM that you type into the dialer to being up one of the Service Menus. The code for the Verizon variant is *#27663368378# and can be accessed after root & modification to one of the carrier files for Hidden Menus.
I believe the code was *#197328640# but like I said they appear to be dead now.
Here are some screens that I took of my phone.

How do you change the files to accept the codes? If i flashed my phone to the verizon version and do this, would i lose the carrier aggregation once i flash back to att. my goal is to return the phone back to what it was prior to all the rom flashing because i plan to sell the phone on ebay so i can get the s8+

In addition to re-ODINing the phone,I also flashed the Verizon firmware and rooted it to get the carrier aggregarion menu and when I put it back to the AT&T firmware,i still got the CA-Not Config 0 0 status in the servicemenu. On the tmobile firmware the 3x carrier aggregations work (I don't have another phone to see if AT&T CA works and I'm still waiting for my T-Mobile SIM to see if it's not the phone itself that's wrong)

i found carrier unlock no voided warranty no root/recovery required is available

unlocked my sprint galaxy note 8 for any network domestic and international . As title states. Does not void warranty. No rooting no custom recovery. unlock. phone does not have to be paid off. Im using my sprint galaxy note 8 on sprint , and tmobile . So there legit options for us sprint note 8 users if you search. nice to be unlocked with no penalties from our carrier in my oppinion

Yup.

alright. so i want to say i went this route as well. i have 3 months left on my sprint contract.that being said, i have the files he used during the unlocking process. the problem is there is another thing he did to actually unlock it. he used something called flexihub while it was in the combination firmware to actually do something on his machine that i couldnt see. this is something he did on the modem level, but i confirmed with him that it doesnt matter if i flash another firmware using odin, my sim will still be unlocked. i have tried this with verizon sim and it works. again, my contract is not up with sprint yet, which means my device shouldnt be unlocked, but this somehow works. if anyone else wants this, here is the ebay seller link that i got mine done within an hour. keep in mind that you have to back up your device, because what he does is flash firmware. also he will need access to your computer to work remotely, but he never strayed from what he was doing. for 7 bucks, this is a steal.

Android 11 decreased my SOT by close to 2 or 2.5 hours. Wanting to flash back to Android 10 (HELP)

So I just bought a used Galaxy s10 Plus on eBay. I was getting amazing battery life and great SOT but I was forced to download Android 11 by force update and now my SOT has gone down almost 2.5 hours from when it was previously running on Android 10. I despise having to deal with these issues even though its a used phone. On the SamMobile website I found the correct PDA G975U1UES5GUD1 but I can't find the CSC code on my phone and I am afraid I will flash the wrong firmware and damage the phone.
How can I Find the CSC code on my phone? The device is been used on Verizon prepaid via Red Pocket Mobile and its Factory GSM and CDMA unlocked. I would really appreciate any help I can get with this.
Thank you so much in advance.

How can I Find the CSC code on my phone? The device is been used on Verizon prepaid via Red Pocket Mobile and its Factory GSM and CDMA unlocked. I would really appreciate any help I can get with this.
Thank you so much in advance.

You won't damage your phone if they mismatch, probably only carrier settings would break
But the link I gave according to that you are having Verizon as the carrier and you are living in the US when you got force OTA update then it’ll match.
That's if you can go back.
Doesn't 11 update the boot loader version too?
Well yeah now that you mention it probably.
Hmm, but there should be a way of degrading the software even so.

If he uses Odin he can downgrade fine enough,
Unfortunately, I think he'll lose his data though.
I haven't downgraded from One UI 3.0 before since I only got a A21s.

I'm still running Pie. It's what I've been seeing here about the 11 update updating the boot loader too. Maybe that's OTA upgrades only.
Not a concern of mine though.
Data loss is a given... at least be prepared for it.
Yeah, I agree since I'm still running 10 Idk really about bootloader changes from 10-11.
But if that's the case then Its probably impossible to downgrade without getting a bricked phone.
Doublecheck the bootloader version code of both versions of android so you don't brick your phone.
This is starting to sound too risky I do appreciate everyones help on this post honestly but at this point I am not going to risk messing up a $330 phone. But thank you all for making things clear.

Well, you can wait for the fix then. Maybe Samsung will release a fix to solve that issue

Yeah hopefully thank you for your help tho. Appreciate it.
No problem, but if the kernel hasn't changed the ROM can be downgraded. If it has you can just take it to Samsung and ask them to downgrade for you.
My friend did that.
