Just being optimistic is all.... probably won't make a difference in the long run, but at least we have a chance. A very, very, very, very, very small chance that is

It's worth a shot, Got nothing to lose!

It's not honestly even worth the try...I wish it was believe me! But in reality us people who actually root our devices is such a small percentage to the total amount of people who don't that there's absolutely no way that they will care enough.. and I very well could be mistaken but I believe your not gonna want to send votes to Samsung but to the actual US carriers and others who use the Snapdragon devices because if I'm not mistaken they are the reason behind the locked bootloaders. Started off with Sprint and Verizon then finally Att and Tmobile being the last carrier to do so. From my understanding Samsung doesn't care and really why should they? But these carriers get these big corporations to pay them to put their bloat on the device and with a unlocked bootloader users can just erase it and also apply hacks like wifi tether and such. So your gonna want to send your votes to the carriers. Goodluck

As sad as it might be but I think the last unlockable Note was the 5. I'm optimistic but hopefully T-Mobile has something worth jumping to this fall.

It will never happen.

is samsung pay the reason why bootloaders are not unlockable?

samsung wants the corporate accounts, and couldnt care less about the average consumers cell phone purchases; companies who buy 1000 phone at a time do not want any security cracks, so, Samsung will NEVER unlock the bootloaders on phones they sell in the USA..
dont waste your bandwidth signing some silly petition; if you want to unlock your bootloader, get an Exxnos version, NOT a Snapdragon version, period..

Over 100? I'll bet they stop and pay attention now.
Hint: there were over 650K units bought pre sale. There were several million sold. Perhaps that puts into perspective just how miniscule the modding community is.
If you want an unlocked bootloader buy a phone that has an unlocked bootloader.

Ok so I rooted my note 8 EDL method with 7.1, I managed to get the OEM UNLOCK to pop up after submitting shell command in my ADB Terminal.....I simply typed
$ su
# resetprop ro.boot.oem.lock 0
# resetprop ro.boot.other.locked 0
# resetprop ro.boot.flash.locked 0
Went back into development options and there is was saying my bootloader is already unlocked but my issue is the secure boot when I try to flash magisk or twrp via safestrap I get the annoying unauthorized firmware has been flashed! Ugh ...... any way to script that secure boot out?

I was looking at device info and I noticed ro.oem unlocked supported 1 does this mean the snapdragon bootloader is unlocked

Agree.. Leaving Samsung family once my Battery is at no return.. Because Samsung has always given US consumers the middle finger.
But when when you state get Exxnos VS. Snapdragon cnipset, were talking Exxnos(Samsung CPU make) vs. Snapdragon (Qualcomm CPU make). If Samsung could have locked down Exxnos, they would have.
so not sure the connection there. Is it that Exxnos was never sold directly in US?

Yes, its an interresting post. But this concerns mostly (if not only) us the customisers. But the avarage Joe (which is like 99,9% of the sold phones) is happy with the phone as it comes and he doesnt need open or unlocked bootloader or phone. The point is, the avarage Joe is save from bricking his phone and thats a good thing from Joes point of view and also from the phone manufacturers (they want to sell phones, not swap the damaged ones). Ofcourse i would like to get open bootloader or phone straight out of the box, but i fully understand why the companies do not want it.

Bricking... that's one thing but you didn't mention the big picture.
Money
I love it, you love it, and HTC sure as hell does too. Nothing personal it's just business, business as usual... simple as that.
If it weren't for this fabulous forum I would of probably upgraded my phone twice by now if not at least once since owning the HD2, provided I had enough funds... All these "unauthorized" OS updates I'm getting has definitely been a factor for NOT upgrading my phone. That's profit loss for both HTC and the carriers that sell them. Then there's all these "unenlightened" ones who come to this forum and brick their phones because they've failed to properly follow directions. Then turn around and claim fraudulent warranty damage. I don't know how much net loss this actually costs but I'm pretty sure it's enough that it makes a difference. Either way, at the end of the day it's all about maximizing profits. This isn't a charity folks..... HTC has expensive mouths to feed.
do you really need 2 threads going? 1 in gneral and 1 in android?
presonally it doesnt bother me if they lock it or not, they are doing it for business reasons and as stated above money, i was going to reply to this yesterday but after typing out what i was going to put, most people would get pissy and *****y

[Q] Verizon version capable of root?

So I've started researching the Note 3 as of recently as a replacement to my S4. What's got me worried is all the talk about how Verizon has taken extra steps to lock down the Note 3. I know the talk isn't anything new since Verizon has consistently tried locking down our phones without success, however is there anything new to cause concern over this phone in particular? Are we confident that the Note on Verizon will receive root with s-off? Not having root would definitely be a deal breaker so I'd like to nail down the facts before I pull the trigger. Also another side question, what is the version number for the Verizon version? Thanks for any help provided!
Found the answer to my second question. The Verizon version model number will be model SM-N9005
That's the same lte model that they are already rooting overseas. The criteria being the bootloader is unlocked. I'll be around to supply cheer and encouragement

Ive been trying to keep up with the note 3 forums when they opened and they are rooted and do have custom roms but the bootloader has to be unlocked just to even get root through odin. Verizon will def be locking it down. Hopefully wont be too long before a dev cracks it because I need root!!!!!!!

Bootloader is unlocked.. The first day I get my hands on it.. I have a tool that I have been using for the last 4 devices.. That unlocks the bootloader..
all verizon stuff..
-s3
-note 2
-s4
-tab 2 7.0
And I am sure it will work on the note 3 .. I have reached out to some high tech devs out here to help out on the recovery/rom .. Just waiting on some replys..

Right! We keep getting these ridiculous posts about "when will the the n3 be released" and crazy lies about the bl being unlocked already. People need to wake up and realize there IS NO UNLOCKED BL! If there was the s4 would have it. And another thing...its being released OCTOBER 10TH!

Oh, he also claimed an unlocked BL....Now in his comments he has one unlocked, but the other is not...this is his way of claiming they changed how the BL is locked. Ban this troll.

This is what pisses me off Suzook, I agree we have all been trolled and we all was hoping the 29th was the ship date. One of my best friends is a Verizon Corp manager and told me that Verizon was going to ship the phone out early so they wouldn't lose business to other carriers but there was some legal concerns about charging people cards earlier then what's posted on Verizon website. So they didn't sale early....
As for the guy saying he is going to unlock the bootloader he might be full of it and he might be telling the truth!!! There's 7+ billion people in this world, I'm sure it's possible that someone is either smart enough to crack it or has inside connections. Think about the S3, that was unlocked because someone leak an unlocked bootloader... Note 2 never received that leak, it was unlocked because Adam and Relake (I misspelled his name).
It's okay to be pessimistic, but lets see how this thing plays out instead of making rude comments. The rude comments serve no point and does nothing for the xda community.
If you would stop and reflect and compare your post vs your thanks, now look at my post vs thanks, you will see I have half the post but twice as many thanks as you... Why?? because I try to post comments with a purpose and not judge or say negative comments.

Verizon rep is full of it. All it takes is a simple email saying you are going to be charged a week early or whatever and if you wish to wait till 10/10 please call such and such and boom done. It was never early everybody speculated there was no proof of early release. Let me go back to bestbuy where I was yesterday talking to inventory guys and Samsung rep with road map and had 10/10 so anybody saying before is a straight up liar.
And the rude posts!?!? Are you kidding? Dude posts for sure they are shipping 9/29 & unlocked bootloader & then closes thread before he "talks" to Verizon. Yeah right. Now this unlocked crap he is full of it.

[BOOTLOADER UNLOCK] Sign the petition and help get our G4 bootloaders unlocked!

It's been previously posted before, but this needs to be shared more widely and thoroughly. This is the only somewhat way we've advanced in being able to unlock our bootloader, we NEED more people to sign this petition. If LG sees what we've done and how far we've pushed with this petition so far they have to consider it, or atleast give us a message back on everything. Even if they deny, this petition is still enough to get us noticed by developers and people much more well equipped to crack the bootloader and then release a tutorial or program able to do it for us.
If LG sends us a statement refusing to unlock the bootloader, then that's more than enough of a reasonable cause for other developers and people who can crack it to get involved. It would probably cause an uproar in the LG community here on XDA either forcing LG to reconsider, or encouraging other people to help us.
PLEASE SIGN! Lets make progress in getting our bootloader unlocked!

I might even trybto post it straight to lgs facebook page. We need more than just xda. Face and twitter are main stream media. Your thinking small time lets get this on the 5 oclock news. Push this as far as possible. I mean i know lg will never unlock it. But eventually someone will find a bypass. People hack the c.i.a. the f.b.i. But aparantly lg has better security than them lol. There has been many emails sent all the same. They have no intentions on unlocking any other g4s.
I know nobody wants to hear it but. I feel now that the g5 is out this is a outadate smartphone and i feel every company should provide unlocks for outdated and outa waranty devices. But hopefully some one figures somthin out on the g5 and it may work for g4 then but prob not. I wont say never but i most def aint buyin lg for a long time

I wont being buying LG either unless they make a very good quality phone again. But in all honesty this phone with the 60fps alone kills other phones completely. I own the S7 now along with the S6 edge and the camera on this with the 60fps mod is very comparable to the S7's. Only huge difference is stability and zoom. Im very happy with the G4 and its a great home use device for me, but the S7 is my daily. I would buy LG again but I need to see better build quality and more customization like S6 or S7.
To extend on the warranty thing you said. G4's are still very much under warranty lol I picked mine up early January. So they are still selling G4's out there meaning they wont lose warranty for at least another year, which could mean no bootloader unlock officially from LG until then but who knows in all honesty. Id like to work with a dev on this and get us unlocked but thats very hard to for free now a days.
i will stick with my H818N until arive Samsung Note 6 (dual-sim) ... then i wish to never hear about buying LG phone ....
Phone hardware manufacturers are only obligated to do a carrier unlock (usually called a SIM unlock) if you buy the device outright or if you complete your contractual obligation, and only for phones manufactured in 2013+. There is no requirement for them to unlock the bootloader.

Can the Redmi 3's bootloader be unlocked without Xiaomi's approval?

Does http://en.miui.com/thread-254886-1-1.html work for the Redmi 3 as well?
Or http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-4c/general/guide-unlocking-mi4c-bl-verification-t3336779 ?
(or can they be made to work with the Redmi 3?)
Is it safe to assume that flashing unlocked redmi3 emmc_appsboot.mbn will help?
Haven't tested it though

I'm also hoping for an answer to this. Really considering buying this phone tomorrow, but I don't want to have to request the privilege of using something I bought the way I want to.
All the information I have found so far mostly talks about using the official unlocking method, but then there are bits of other information that suggest you may be able to get around this, with nothing concretely stating it.

I honestly dont get whats the problem. Request unlock today, order it tomorrow. By the time you will get your phone, you will also get the permission

I'm hoping to buy the phone in person tomorrow, so it's not likely I'd get my code in time. Also I'm entirely against this practice of begging to use your own purchased hardware in the way you choose.

Its not begging. It's a security feature For the example, if someone steals your phone, they wont be able to easily take off all the locks to use/sell it. So yeah, its a great solution and one can always wait a bit.

Some people have had their requests denied, it's begging. I appreciate the security concern, but that's not reason enough to lock people out of their OWN phones, just because you want to lock OTHER people out of them. I'd hardly call it a great solution, best solution would be to have the bootloader unlocked and let us lock it by choice which THEN requires a hassle to unlock.

You do realize that most people don't care about that, hence it is locked by default? I do not see how it is great solution to unlock it by default
About denying it, some people dont put in a proper reason (or give some random reason) why they want to unlock their phones, so Xiaomi keeps the idiots away from bricking their phones (I suggest you looking at miui forums. People keep bricking their phones).

Another user seems to have mentioned that the chances of getting an approval has to do with making use of the Mi account so......
And how is 'most people don't care about that' a good argument? Protecting them from thieves (and themselves, I guess, as you've also said) is a much better reason/excuse.
Anyway the world of smartphones went well with flagships (, etc) using unlocked booloaders for years so why is the change suddenly needed?

Oh, that user was just talking non-sense. I registered on miui, I requested permission (did not even have phone at a time) and I got that permission few days later after I received phone.
How is it a bad argument? Most people are just normal users. They do not care about roms, recoveries and stuff like that. They just want a working phone and, if xiaomi would open a massive security hole by default, it would be bad.
How many flagship devices have you owned, if you don't mind me asking? The last time I checked, pretty much all bootloader's are locked by default (even Google Nexus phones are).
I'd be interested in this, whilst I agree that the bootloader should be locked the process should be far more simple than what Xiaomi currently offers.

Agreed. Though I would say if people do want to unlock without approval that is at both the owner's right and risk. Especially here on XDA as opposed to the MIUI forums.

Agreed. But anyone who bought that phone signed up for this. That's the main reason why I'm trying to calm everyone down
And honestly, comments which are saying that "we have to beg for permission" are ridiculous. If you really want to unlock the phone, you will wait for those 10 days. It is really not that bad. Plus, you will get a bit more friendly with MIUI, which I actually use as my main driver and I honestly believe that it is not that bad

Well, there I think we disagree. Some will want to use their phone asap or not want to be bound by Xiaomi's restrictions, rightly or wrongly. If there is a method to bypass it XDA would be the place to publish, test and feedback on it, with the usual disclaimer about bricking/losing the device.
And speaking personally, I want to throw CM/stock android onto my Redmi 3 as soon as I get it. I'll either try the workaround or wait, using my old phone instead.

I'll have to disagree here as well. If that was to happen (some sort of bootloader lock bypasser) it would happen in chinese forums, where most of the stuff comes from anyway. If you take a look at all the roms/recoveries published in here, they are, mostly, a reposts from miui forums.
And considering that every gold member on miui forums, who are actual devs, get priority for bootloader unlock (get key in like three days), they really will not bother developing something like that. Its just so much unnecessary hassle. They might as well just keep investing their time into fixing bugs on current custom roms
Honestly, we could continue this discussion for days. But currently, the only way to get your bootloader unlocked faster is becoming a gold member on miui forums or just waiting for ten days.
Any other discussion on this topic is not worth anything. We will give hundreds (or even thousands) of reasons why they should do things differently, but they will still stick with their current policies. Just like MediaTek does. They are supposed to releases their sources, but they won't. And nobody can do anything about that.
So I will return to my previous point. Anyone who bought this phone knew Xiaomi's policies. If someone does not like that, they can always buy phone from a well known brands. Of course, paying at least two times the price of what we are paying for this phone.
After all, I dont mind paying less and waiting 10 days for the well spec'd phone rather than paying twice and get my bootloader instantly unlocked.

PSA: USA Bootloaders WILL be LOCKED!!!

My DM with a T-Mobile rep.
Any chance you can ask them to list the actual bands the phone supports?
I'm glad I'll be the recipient of the Exynos (unlocked) version. However i can get with the whole security aspect in regards to Google wallet & Samsung Pay/android pay. Like you mentioned though i NEVER and will EVER use this service, it gets disabled from the moment i get the phone (plus my bank doesn't support it anyway lol).
You pay a premium it should be up to the user as to what he does and yes what he/she risks.
I am very much against taking away the option of root and custom ROMs because of a service being forced upon us.

I second being against them taking away root and ROMs and forcing services upon us. If there was less or no fragmentation in android with regards to updates, I could perhaps stay stock..

LOL! Sorry but, how old are you? I'm as disappointed as anyone, but you're acting like a child. You think that because YOU'VE been with T-Mobile "since VoiceStream" T-Mobile should change their decision? Ridiculous. The guy you were talking to can't help you, cannot make any executive decisions and sure as hell isn't passing along your "concerns" to Legere. He also doesn't give a damn that you're cancelling a whopping THREE (3!!!) device orders. Did you think he was going to crumble to his knees, beg you to keep your orders and run tell boss, "we must change our bootloader plans because Mr. VoiceStream is simply NOT having it?"
You were just whining to yourself while he typed, "I understand how you feel" and rubbed your shoulders a bit.
Agreed, complaining to a underpaid rep that probably hates listening to people complain all day everyday is not going to get bootloaders unlocked.

I ordered two from TMo and I'm sure that a root method will pop up soon after release.
Motorola had bootlocks on the Bionic and it was still able to be rooted. I bet within a month we'll be rooting with the rest of them.:good::good:

Samsung has officially lost by business. Been a samsung guy since the S3 and I've stuck with them in the years since. It's such a shame that they choose to do this. I don't need Samsung pay, as I have a wallet. Awful that they force these programs down our throats as they're nice to have but are completely unnecessary.

The Galaxy S7 came out in March and it took three months to even figure out how to root it. We don't even have a bootloader unlock for the GS7, and it's been a year since it's release. Might want to lower your expectations as devs are moving away from locked down devices like the Galaxy series in the U.S.
Wow this is like posting water is wet.
I stopped rooting my phones, but I'm still against taking away the option. I just never could pull the trigger on losing Samsung Pay permanently.
