Found a use for a broken ZTE Speed - Repurposing Old Devices

My second ZTE Speed broke down after nearly two years of cryptocurrency mining. Now all it's good for is the Flashing Light Prize!

[Q] Thermal spec

Hi,
I'm in Finland for 5 months and it seems that it is 'extremely' cold out here. Normally it should be -15°C while it's getting down to -30°C! I was walking outside and was using the camera & gps to take some nice pictures and see how far I was from my destination. Everything worked just fine, only the touch-screen started to fail when I had the device out of my pocket for too long. It got random 'touches' everywhere on the screen. I'm guessing that it's just too cold out there, but I couldn't find the 'thermal spec' (how long will the defy work just fine).
Does anyone know this? Couldn't find it online (Only that you shouldn't charge your battery below 0)
I've lost my phone few days ago...
I've found it yesterday in the snow on backyard. He lay there for almost 2 days while the temperatures was about -10°C to -18°C. When I found it everything was fine... Except the battery It was only 3%
Maybe -30°C is just too cold
I can confirm that screen goes unreponsive at temperatures below -15 celsius. Then again so do my fingers
I digged into manual and it suggests not to use it below 0 degrees C. Good luck with that.
iam not sure about thermal spec but it is not advisable to use any electronic gadget in negative temperatures for long time...
But when it gets exposed to very low temperatures touchscreen feels unresponsive (found it from some open discussion forums for other mobiles) ..
But Defy is Life Proof !! so play around with it as u like !!

Battery required

Hi, ok, I know this is pretty much a dead forum now, but my old HD2 is still working perfect. Its only used occaisionaly but I like to keep it as a backup phone.
The only problems it does have is that the battery lasts only a few hours now. Does anyone have a link to a 'good' source for a new/replacement battery. I think the normal ebay sources are 3/4 year left over batteries as the last one I bought a while back was useless after only a couple of months.
Thanks.
I bought around week ago this one:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280829871131
It works perfect but I'm not sure what live expectancy should I require for that price.
It will be enough if survive until my HTC 10 come back repaired from warranty service.

Note 3 SM900 Refurbished

Hello people, I bought my Note 3 SM900 back in 2013 December, I used the phone for 2 years and then stopped using it. I switched to an iPhone and then HTCm9+. Anyways, now I've the phone lying around in my house, it works, currently it has a custom rom. I used the phone time to time when my primary phone had issues. My phone started to become very slow, I switched roms every now and then. But the phone is very slow, laggy and the battery perfomance is like I'm using a 500mah battery. 30% battery gone in 15 mins or something like that.
Now, I've some scratches in my display and it's broken too.
So I thought spending some few bucks to fully restore it, I've searched AlieXpress for a battery that's 6450 mah ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/285...lgo_pvid=785e49e1-2b9a-4d4a-8d2e-60bb2a0b9847 ) and also a LCD Display+Touchscreen thatd be like 55$. So should I go for it? Or should I cancel it? PS: I've never changed my battery from 2013 December, it's the stock battery. Does the phone's perfomance affected by a weaker battery?

battery does not exceed 6 hours

Hello,
i bought 2 leeco the pro 3 X720 2 months ago for my son and me
I unlocked the bootloader
then I installed TWRP
then I tried lots of rom (lineagos aosip EUI (grossoshop) etc ...
I have never reached more than 6 hours of screen use with a full charge on both phones
But on specialized sites we talk about 10 or 11 hours of use videos
I do not understand why a smartphone with a battery of 4070 mah does not take more than 6 hours
Thank you for answering me
PS; I constantly put the brightness to a minimum and I cut the 4 g the sync the location etc to try to hold more than 6 hours but nothing makes it
There are lots of factors that could be affecting it, from hardware to software. Likely software. You may want to use an app like Kernel Adiutor to optimize the phone's settings, but be very careful as you could brick the phone by accident.
What you need is probably a custom kernel.
Hello,
thank you for your reply
what is a custom kernel?
how do you flash?
when we flash a rom, we do not flash the kernel with?
Can you tell me more

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the OnePlus 7T's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I'm the first - Yay.
Kinda makes me feel alone and which I never got this phone though. Thought this would be a developers dream... But, again, I'm so very wrong. Think this is still great performance even after a year of use. Thank you

HEY Wugga3
LOL I know what you mean. Every time I get a phone I regret not spending more time reading all the forums to figure out who's got the hottest dev community. Then after a while it fails to be a hotbed with fresh roms every week like I remember from years ago with my Note3, or even the original Droid.
I was happy just getting it unlocked and rooted, and I never did flash any of the ROMS that are around.
I just wanted to say, you are not alone!!
BTW I just broke my 7t, I spiked it 6 months ago and broke the screen, I was really happy with the relative ease of replacing the screen myself. It worked great until last monday. I dropped it, but just a normal drop from 5' onto a wood floor. Nothing happened right away but after a few min it shut down. It kept shutting down within a few min of restarting. I tried everything, wiped the phone, etc. and it still shut down within a few min of starting. Finally I tried safe mode and it stayed on for hours. Chatted with tech support. they said to send it in, and I just got the estimate for repairs - 500 bucks!! So they're sending it back as is and I'll just have a phone I can use on Safe Mode going forward!!
When the screen was broken I picked up a Nord N10 and the 5g was great on paper, but in reality, the slower processor (i assume) didn't make it feel any faster than our 7t when browsing. When I replaced the screen I went back to the 7t right up through last week. Still had great battery life at the end, too.
I ended up getting a refurbed 8t which DOES feel faster when browsing than the old 7t. Slightly faster opening maps too, but not worth the 500 bucks if my good old 7t still worked. So rest assured, if you're still using it, you're still getting max value from a great phone.
Take Care
Ben
