How Come there is no "Check for Update" etc. on my V9 - Honor V9 Questions & Answers

I have a Honor V9 - DUK-AL20C00B191 and when I went into Settings -> About Phone I do not see a "check for update" button or anything of the sort. I know it is the Chinese Model, and I am in Canada, but that should not make a difference, right? I am still on the March 2017 Android Security patch and I would like to get some sort of update. I tried Firmware Finder and my phone is eligible for updates but they don't show up either using the Proxy setup in Firmware Finder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

All fixed and now running Oreo on my v9! A couple of full wipes and then reinstalling through eRecovery got me there!

Honor 7 PLK-AL10 Marshmallow 6 update?

hi,
I live in Israel and I purchased my Honor 7 PLK-AL10 online on Aliexpress.
I've been getting regular OTA updates, the last one just two weeks ago (PLK-AL10C00B211), but I'm still waiting for the Android 6 update.
Can anyone tell me when is this update due to arrive via OTA?
Thanks
I have already done it via eRecovery. Yesterday Honor 7 showed me un update (180mb) but I had trouble to install and after 3/4% updating finished with info that something was wrong. I tried to do so a few times and the result was the same. Decided to restore the phone via eRecovery and I was surprised that PLK-AL10C00B360 (Android 6.0, EMUI 4.0) was downloaded. To sum up 6.0 is in
That really is strange. When I got the update to PLK-AL10C00B211 is also was 180mb but it worked fine and no 6.0.
I read that they started rolling out this update via OTA in Europe on February. I don't know what this means for devices purchased online from Chinese stores (with Chinese version installed I guess...)
Do it via eRecovery and you will have 6.0 in. I bought via Aliexpress as well and everything seems to be ok Good luck.
When u say eRecovery you mean to download the rom and install it manually?
No you can use Honor 7 MULTITOOL - 1 Recovery - 5 Reboot to eRecovery and you will have eRecovery menu and install ...
I will check this Multitool thing, though I really much prefer not mess around with all these recovery, rooting and more advanced stuff. I prefer the simple OTA update, only I'm not getting it...
Also, even if I use the Multitool, don't I need to first download the ROM I want to install?
If you get into eRecovery the phone will download the latest one.... after your permission
Well, I tried booting the phone to recovery mode, pressing the volume-up + volume-down + power buttons and the phone came up saying "Installing software" but immediately fails with no apparent reason.
Hi,
To upgrade to B360, you should apply for this using "care" (or "HiCare") HUAWEI application that comes with the phone. Also, you should have Huawei ID (similar to Google account). Then, you need to run the app and select" update". This will enable the upgrade via the regular update procedure.
I live in Israel and did it already on my honor 7.
Good luck,
Nissim
Hi,
My honor 7 plk-al10 was updating very well until November 2015, curiously it didn't happen anymore.
I bought it from gizok.com and it works very nice and it's Android version was 5.0 since I bought it.
Then I downloaded an update 'Android 5.1' file from this site: "http : / / emui . Huawei . com /cn/plugin.php . php?id=hwdownload&mod=detail&mid=172" (delete blank spaces)
Well, I installed it and without doing anything, the smartphone detected the OTA update of marshmallow 6.0 and until the last weekend it has downloaded 6 updates of marshmallow.
Try it, maybe it works for you.
Hi Nissim,
I checked my phone and apparently HiCare app was disabled.
So I enabled it, selected "Updated software" but it only updated the HiCare app. How should I apply for the Android 6.0 update from the app? Everything is in Chinese (except from the main menu)...
When I select "Update" it says "No update available"
Thanks

Hi Nissim,
I disabled the HiCare app when I got my phone . So I enabled it now and updated the app (ver. 2.0.6.300).
But when I selected "update" it just says "no updates available".
Am I missing something?
Thanks

If you have a look around the FF app you will see that they do actually make you aware that under emui4 there are no problems.
However they go on to inform you that you might experience bugs using the app under emui5....such as 'couldn't install', 'unauthorised', 'deleting the zip files...'. Basically the issues you have been experiencing. I manage to update to b360 selecting without wifi via proxy and it was essentially for a different region!?! But, hey it worked.
But like you even though there are newer updates I get the same problems now and the updated have been available for several weeks...

P8 (GRA-L09) from Europe updated to B398 returns "invalid password" with home wifi

P8 (GRA-L09) from Europe updated to B398 returns "invalid password" with home wifi
Hello guys,
My dad owns a P8 (GRA-L09) bought in Europe, and its latest security patch was from June 2016, but still was Android Marshmellow and EMUI version 4.0 if I remember correclty. The last days I went looking for new firmware upgrade, considering he often falls for click bait adds that end up installing crap on his phone. I have found what seemed to be the latest update for the Europe region: B398 (dated June 2017, somewhat outdated when it comes to security patches).
https://huaweidl.com/download/p8/gra-l09/b398/
Download link provided by this website is OFFICIAL:
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G985/g104/v88316/f1/full/update.zip
Updating method used:
1) First, download Full B398 ROM for Huawei P8 from above and extract it.
2) Now create a folder dload in the root of your SD card and place the update.app file in that folder.
3) Now dial *#*#2846579#*#* from your phone dialer to open a hidden menu.
4) Now click on Project Menu -> Software Upgrade -> SDCard Upgrade.
5) Now select and run the update.
6) Wait until the installation process is complete and then reboot your device.
7) Done.
The problem is that, after installing the update, my previously saved home wifi won't connect. So I wiped out ALL saved access points, and also reset networks settings to default. Then I tried to connect again, using the CORRECT password, and it returns "invalid password". I have to say my wifi password has a "@" character, but this can't be the problem, since it was working fine BEFORE updating.
Since the P8 has been bough in Italy, I went to the official support website for an update:
https://consumer.huawei.com/it/support/phones/p8/
It seemed that I got lucky, considering the date displayed, but I was wrong.
Huawei P8 Firmware (GRA-L09, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.0, C432B321a, Western Europe, Channel-Others)
2018-01-26 | 1G

After downloading the "update", I was disappointed to find out that this file has the version B321, way much older than the B398 I have just updated to.
Any ideas? Searching in Google made me realize I'm not the only one with this problem, but so far most of the solution posted on other communities seem to be related to isolated cases or merely just luck. Not to mention there was a solution rather risky, since it involved wiping caches (including Dalvik) and it resulted as an even worse malfunction (WiFi and Bluetooth can't be turned on after this, so be careful).
Thanks!
Please try and refrain from asking the question across multiple threads, :- https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75466903&postcount=375
BTW B399 is the latest for the GRA-LO9 (security patch 5th Oct.2017) and works flawlessly.

Try that version and see.

Update to Android 8.0 Oreo

Hi all,
I'm on WAS-LX1AC432B184 and i can't update via OTA because "no update" and I think there's update as a friend of mine has the same phone but different build numbers as i needed to unlock my dual sim capability.
When i bought my phone i could only use 1 sim then i changed it to a dual sim. Can this be the reason why i can't get updates? The guy that did the dual sim conversion told me that i will be able to get updates as normal but i don't at all.
Please help me get the latest update so that i can enjoy the new Android – 8.0 Oreo
Hey there, by looking at your build number, you've got a 3GB RAM variant (LX1 instead of LX1A) Dual SIM (even build number) P10 lite on the global cust (C432).
The strange thing is the build number, stuck at 184 when Nougat arrived at B209/210 (Oreo is at B360/361).
Maybe you did some kind of modification (root, bad EMUI flash in the past) to the system so you can't receive official Huawei updates via OTA?
Have you tried clicking on the top right in System Update > Download latest full package?
Just some guesses here…
Probably, the you're huawei p10 lite dual is a branded? Usualy these models is the very slow for porting major release.

Hi zYoshi,
the download latest full package is greyed out... i have done a dual sim conversion in the past not sure if it was done correctly but i got it done... is there anyway i can fix this?
I want to get new updates for my phone to be honest.

Hi sham_1
I sent you a guide wrote quickly in DM (for anyone who might need it, I left it here).
One quick question, now you have an even build number, right? That means that you are on a Dual-SIM firmware.
I suggest you to follow these steps and maybe wait some weeks because I did something similar too while Oreo was hitting Huawei's servers, but I received it only a month later, when the IMEI finally matched my firmware (the IMEI has to be approved in order to receive updates, suggest to "check firmware availability" on Firmware Finder).
"Hey,
I'm not so experienced in Huawei modding, but I managed to debrand my device from C55 to C432, so maybe it's worth a shot.
•
Anyways, try this:
- Download Firmware Finder from Play Store
- open it and click on WAS-LX1C432
- search for builds like B210 (must be an even number and not an Oreo B361, otherwise you can brick your device) choose a FullOTA
- click on update via proxy/DNS, follow the steps on screen
•
The important thing here is to know if the phone grants you into updating with that build, then failing in erecovery (detecting an error, no brick) so that you can reboot with not updated firmware and do a standard System Update from the settings, that update will contain the same build that you've got installed, but it will be used to basically overwrite everything without losing any data, even thought I suggest you to do a backup.
•
Before doing any of the steps I gave you, could you please describe me what you did, what method did you follow?
•
In this post, I am giving steps that worked for me when I had a corrupted firmware, but your problem may be different from this.
Check also the HWOTA method (to solve the same problem but with the warranty void, I suggest to use it only if the above method doesn't work), search "HWOTA P10 lite" on Google for more info.

Hope this helps

P9 Lite - VNS-L31C432B226 to Nougat

Hi guys!
Recently, one of the users of my app reported an issue with his Huawei P9 Lite VNS-L31C432B418. It's impossible to him to use my app, network calls are blocked in the app, the app won't connect to my backend endpoints for no reason. Logging is quite unclear, so it's hard to reproduce this issue.
Because of my dedication and urge to fix this issue, I ordered an Huawei P9 Lite on Amazon. (amazon.de/-/en/gp/product/B01DYN5OLE) It got delivered today, installed my app and woosh... Everything was working fine. The phone came with VNS-L31C432B160/EMUI 4.1.3; but the user of my app is using P9 Lite VNS-L31C432B418/EMUI 5.0.4. Hitting the "check for updates" did not result in receiving any update (Thanks Huawei!) so I started looking around the internet. I prefer to use exactly the same build version because I want to reproduce this (hard) issue.
So far so good, I used Firmware Finder to incrementally update to VNS-L31C432B226. I'm quite new in these firmware-hacks and tried installing the VNS-L31C432B418 version, but I got stuck at the 5% progress indicator. Using Firmware Finder on my PC, it checked that I'm able to install versions with G 2190 and g 1789. These params do not tell that much for me... Currently, I'm stuck at VNS-L31C432B226 as this is the last one that has G 2190 and g 1789. All the other ones have G 190 and g 1755, are these for other devices as the one I have since I am not able to install these ones?
Someone who can help me in order to get VNS-L31C432B418? Is this even possible on my device?
Thanks in advance, kind regards
Joren

Hi, thanks for your reply! My device gotdelivered with version B172...
Today, I got an update to VNS-L31C432B228! This version is not visible in Firmware Finder... Any ideas how to update to Nougat?
Is it possible to force the update? I always get the message that the update is not compatible with my version.

Ok,
use the app, same method and choose B370 FULLOTA-MF-PV.
It's 1.99 gbyte - date 21/03/2017 - G 753 - g 104.
Into my PC version of FF i see (2) two versions, looks the same, try one or the other..
If you will succeed you can update to the latest firmware (B418)..

Tried in the app, it told me that B370 "The firmware is not approved for installation". B418 is approved (FullOTA-MF), so:
- I've downloaded the firmware (3 files)
- Setup in-app proxy
- Change wifi proxy to localhost:8080
- Check for updates, update is available
- Switch back to wifi, disable proxy
- Download update
- Install
Same story, update is incompatible... So I think I'm still doing something wrong while changing the firmware instead of upgrading. For me, the tutorials are skipping essential steps. Or I might have received a f*cked up device. Why on earth is it so hard to update, thanks Huawei..

Are you choosing B370 fullota-mf-pv one ? (not B370 fullota-mf nor B370 ota)
Also now i see there a third B370 fullota-mf-pv with date 2017.08.03 - G 1258 - g 104..
If you don't upgrade to this version first,
you couldn't upgrade anyway to android 7
and then to latest version.
Come on try again...

Yup, but that one: "Most likely, the firmware was removed from the server".
The other ones with B370 are both telling "The firmware is not approved for installation".
I'm testing all the FullOTA-MF-PV's, they are all telling "The firmware is not approved for installation". Some of the "FullOTA-MF" do show the message that they are available. What's the difference between the "-PV"?

That version is used to upgrade to android 7 from 6.
Maybe the version you updated before (B226/B228) don't allow you to upgrade.
Downgrade to B160 and redo your steps..
How to do this ?
Download THIS FILE, extract update.app, create a folder and name it DLOAD.
Put update.app into that folder and put the folder into your SD card.
Turn off the device then reboot holding vol+ & vol- & power buttons together
until flashing starts then release them...

That's really weird dude..
Is your device dual sim one ?
What happen if you choose B371 (fullota-mf-pv) instead of B370 ?

Yup, the device is the dual sim one, B371 also "The firmware is not approved for installation". It's really weird...
I'll try updating manually incrementally, so update by update the ones with G 1258 - g 104?

Back to B370,
skip the verify access firmware, go directly to 'get an update via dns',
tap ok, select 'auto' dns method and tap change dns.
VPN service should start...
Open settings > internal updater
and see if download come for you... check several times ...

I don't know what's wrong with this device.
I've downgraded my device to B160 (66015), tried upgrading to B370 80460, 80466, 80582, all with the same result: Incompatibility with current version. The only version I'm able to upgrade to is 80562, which is B210. From that point, Firmware Finder suggests that it should be possible to update to the B370 builds, but every time, "Incompatibility with current version".
The only B370 that I was not able to try is the one you're suggesting in your comment. That one gives a 404 so I'm not able to download that one (92405). Any other suggestions...?

Sorry dude have you tried skipping the firmware access ?
Could we have missed something in the procedure ?
If this doesn't work, try opening the FF app and from the main menu select 'instructions'.
Video and text guides will open. You can try the update with HiSuite
or with eRecovery or as a last resort you could try the one with a TWRP,
but for this you will have to unlock the bootloader and
it would cost you some time and an additional 4 € ...
Please Note: I have never upgraded from A6 to A7 with this device via twrp,
you do this at your own risk ...

With B160, install firmware finder on your phone.
Add model as VNS-L31C432
Settings > Show firmware for this region only and Show full OTAs only.
Check firmware approval one or two times. (Make sure you've provided phone permission for firmware finder)
Get an update via DNS and it'll turn on vpn.
Check for updates and download.
I can help you on teamviewer if you still can't make it work.
I think that the firmware I need is the one that returns a 404 when trying to download. I've already done successful firmware approval several times for builds that won't install after all. Only the fact that it's such a mess to get updates for this device makes me really frustrated. What if I was a "dummy" owner of this device? I should never be able to get the updates I'm looking for. It's just impossible without doing too much effort or rooting the device. For me it's really important to have the original firmware of Huawei and not a custom rom, because I have to investigate the issue of my app user, which is device-specific. How complicated can it be to provide a solid update platform. Huawei, please.
I've decided to ship this piece of sh*t back to Amazon. Ordered a second hand Huawei P9 Lite that has already the build VNS-L31C432B418. Thank you guys for all the effort in trying to help me getting Nougat on this device, unfortunately it seems to be impossible.
