Xz2 compact vs Sirocco
N8 is used with Gcam. Both is on Auto mode. Without bettering.
And here with updatet Nokia Camera.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/QnkGuvW28xFAnJ6G8

I come to Sirocco from a long line of Xperia`s. I can say that the camera is extremely disappointing on Sirocco. Very bad camera, it is impossible to take a clear photo if you even just move a little. Also the processing is horrible or completely missing (i was expecting a lot more from a pure android).

I had any flagship Xperia in last years. Now have Xz2 compact. I compare cameras every day. Nokia with Google cam and last updated Nokia cam is better than Sony. In daylight better colors. In low light better detailing. In low light for landscapes must not use flash.

Are you sure? Maybe you testing on a tripod?
Before this i had a Z5c and it was a lot better, especially in low light. Nokia has to much noise (especially in low light) and lacks details (it is very evident if you zoom in a photo).
But the worst part, it has almost no stabilization, witch in a day to day use (without tripods, ideal lighting.....) by a average user with average knowledge in photography it outputs crappy photos, distorted, unfocused. This is why i call it bad (as most users that do). The sensor itself might be good, but no OIS and bad software combined with a bootloader impossible to be unlocked (so no custom software or proper ports of apps like camera with advanced processing algorithms for the exact hardware) will result in a very expensive (flagship) brick.
So, to resume all the above : Sony is better than Nokia in almost every way (the only exception is the design, the only reason i bought the Sirocco).

Here 2 posts upper I had posted comprasion between xz2c and Sirocco. Have pics in twilight and in total dark. For me Nokia(with Google cam app) is equal to Sony . I have and S8 too. S8 overexposed night shots and and I dont like that. Have you ever tryed Google camera app?

I`m using a Gcam port for MI6. It works a lot better than the stock, and it does some pretty good photos, but only with the HDR+ enhanced mode. The disadvantage is that this port cannot use the second camera (the telephoto one).
If the bootloader could be unlocked and with the complete source code, someone could make a good Gcam port for this phone.
P.s. : Nokia 8 has a very different camera comparing to Nokia 8 Sirocco edition. The N8 has a secondary monochrome camera and it has OIS. N8s does not have OIS and the secondary camera is for telephoto only.
So basically the N8 has a much better camera comparing to the N8s, and the photos should be a lot better, comparable to a Sony flagship.

Im using Pixel port Gcam version. And i think that with any ports second camera didnt works.

Now that the bootloader is unlocked for Nokia 8. Let's hope that they unlock it for Nokia 8 Sirocco as well. And we might see a really good Gcam port that uses both the cameras on the back cause Nokia Camera app is really bad. I don't think they will get it right for a long time. Gcam is far far ahead of them. I don't know how things work around there but maybe they can collaborate with Google to work on more enhanced camera app. I'm just blaberring here.

Superb work
dayum, it really looks like a step up from the Mate 9. Just read the in-depth DxOMark review, any chance we can see some extreme low light shots that would require flash?
Did some comparisons:

I was a little surprised to find the RGB camera isn't 12mb like advertised too, it's 11.8

Comparison between P10+ & Mate10 at ISO1000. Mate10 noise reduction is too strong until lost of colors & some details has been smoothen. P10+ handle it much better & more natural. Hope Huawei will improve in this area.
I am also dissapointed by mate 10 photo quality. In daylight its worse than my old galaxy s4!
Noise reduction is too strong, sharpening is just way too strong and contrast is too strong. Pictures look completely artificial.
JPG are almost useless on 4K good screen.
On the other side - raw files are great.
My Mate 10 arrived yesterday, sampled out the camera this morning. I'm so impressed with the entire Phone so far, but the camera is really something.
The forum has reduced the quality of these quite a bit.
Is possible some of our camera are defective? I haven't been impressed at all with it. Especially in low light the pictures look a bit rubbish. The u11 and original pixel xl looked a lot better

I agree. I've been comparing the Note 8 and M10 Pro... and when i send them to people to tell me what they think, most of them come back to me by telling me the N8 is much better. I am using the Zero camera mod on the N8, and it seems that it really makes the pictures better. Honestly i was expecting much better.
Did you try the M10 on "moving subjects"? like babies, dogs, cars... for me it just has a hard time focusing. Of course, this on auto mode... on pro, and when you take still pictures it looks really nice. I also realised that the color isn't very warm, tends to go on the blue cold then warm.

I haven't really taken loads of pics outside mainly low light... But what I have taken is a bit washed out and haven't been impressed.
I think the hardware is as good as the other flagships and I heard you can get better pictures in pro mode. The software side obviously isn't doing a very good job and needs updating

Gcam is not working on xperia devices as it is not camera2api compatible. Here is a good comparison video with OnePlus 6 and you can find many more comparisons of xz2 on this channel. Enjoy!
I got GCam working for my XZ2, without root. But I forgot where to download it. The link is somewhere in XZ2 compact's thread.
Back-lit mode, hdr auto and hdr+ (gcam)
Hello, since XZ2 doesn't have an auto HDR feature as some other manufacturers (name samsung, HTC, LG,...) I am wondering how superior auto is doing in back-lit scenes? Does the back-lit scene in intelligent auto makes it for the exclusion of a force (auto) HDR option? I have a Z5 compact now and its dynamic range is pretty poor. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
My XZ2 always recognises backlit scenes as Landscape or Backlight but the result is great, I have a sample but I really can't upload it because of how big the size of the pictures.

If i'm not mistaken, when a backlit / landscape icon appear in Superior Auto, auto HDR will be triggered. At least thats what happens in previous Xperia phone. So it does have the auto HDR features.

Which previous Xperia do you mean?
Because on my Z5 compact I don't think that's the case.. The Z5 series camera didn't have a good reputation anyway, but I especially noticed a huge gap to the best ones in unevenly lit scenes.. With the backlit situations, it depends where your focus is - if you want defined clouds and sunset on your photo, then the foreground is gonna be too dark, or properly exposed foreground is gonna lead to overblown highlights (white sky without clouds). As far as I saw, XZ2 also suffers in highly uneven outdoor scenarios, and has IMO worse dynamic range than on Google or HTC.
LG and apple for example show when the HDR is triggered automatically when shooting in auto mode, in real time before taking a photo, and I think Sony should do it too if they offer auto HDR.
IMX 400 is hardwerwise definitely able to do so... If it can shoot moving objects before you press shutter button (predictive capture) then they could also do multiple-frame exposures in real time before taking a photo IMO.. Which maybe they do, I REALLY hope so.
However, sometimes I prefer less dynamic range and higher contrasts.. Pixel 2's or U12+'s photos sometimes have too little contrast for me due to bringing down highlights and/or boosting shadows too much.. At the end it's a trade off nevertheless I think every phone should have had an auto HDR these days.
I realized that the zoom is not just a crop of the original photo, it has a process to soften the image.
I leave an example.
Original, crop and 8x zoom.

Low light

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the OnePlus 6's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
very bad....sorry to say it!
It is much better though than many 12mpxl cameras of the past without any low-light tricks. But it still sucks.
https://www.anandtech.com/show/13038/the-oneplus-6-review/8
V30 with MUCH smaller sensor and pixels obliterates OP6 with its pixel binning. Op5T had pixel binning, but it had it on a sensor without OIS. Hence nobody liked op5t low light blurry mess shots. I have no idea why OP6 devs cant just port pixel binning software to the main camera with OIS and see how it obliterates competetion.
I wish we had somebody who can make this happen. Just make a port of op5T second camera binning software to op6 main camera and have a best allround flagship killing camera. Is it that hard?
I would say its quite good. I compared this with my friend that owns Samsung S8. My photo came out a lot of sharper with so much light in contrast of his photo that came out a little blurry and with less light on photo.

Yeah, it's not forgiving when you use point and shoot mode!
I found turning off hdr makes better pictures. However, lots of reports says 5.1.7 has better low light performance. So one can only hope an update makes it better. Or we just have to hope that when the pixel 3 comes, we can use resources from Google cam for 845 snapdragon.
We hope.....

But if I zoom in on the p20 pro pictures I feel the same... In fact all cell cameras if you zoom just look horrible not made for zooming in tbh. Looks better if looked at a bigger screen.
I own other phone less expensive with Gcam, and zooming the detail is more present...
My daughter face is full of grain and lacks detail...
I've never owned a "premium" phone before and I must say that I'm actually quite impressed with the low-light photo quality - I was having a tour through a cavern, took a few photos and they've actually shown more detail than I could even see! Of course, when I looked at them on a big screen, the photos were noisy and oversharpened, but they were definitely an "instagramable" material and that's what counts for me.

shots in daylight are good, although if u zoom in too much there's some softness n waterpaint effect going on, probably a software issue, hope it gets fixed soon.
but in night this phone is simply outstanding, no phone in it's price bracket come even close to it, will upload a sample tomorrow, but the detail, noise level, lights, everything is perfect in its price range

I have been using this device for a month and here are my findings on its cameras,
1. Back camera works superb in every aspect except the image size which is always to be 7 to 8 MB whether its day time shot or low light or shot in night. So image compressing is not as good as Nokia 7 Plus has.
2. Front Camera is a total flop. Yes I mean it. I take many selfies and they are always much grainy (in all conditions) with and without beauty modes. I don't think so Nokia put a really 20MP sensory at the front instead from the images quality it looks like a 5 MP sensor. Even the Gcam port shows it as 5 MP sensor. Again Nokia 7 Plus take very very great selfies without any filters or 3rd party camera app.
I upgraded from Nokia 7 Plus but after one month I realized That Nokia 7 Plus is far more better than Nokia 8.1 with respect to Cameras and image quality/size.

Just FYI, number of megapixels has nothing to do with image quality, it's just the size of the image. Gcam takes a 5 Mpix photo with any 5+ Mpix front facing camera because it works that way.

Photos off the selfie cam are a bit rubbish, way too sharp and often exposed badly. Photos from the rear camera are fine (if a touch too sharp for my liking), i have found it works much better turning the AI detection off, it seems a bit thick for an AI and often just makes everything really blue. Low light performance is very good (coming from a Nokia 8), you do get some loss of detail once the ISO ramps up but that is all the processing to get rid of the noise, on the bright side at least you get a photo and not a blurry mess like with the Nokia 8. I tried a Pixel 2 with nightsight against the Nokia 8.1 and to be honest the pixel wasn't that much better at all when the scene was very dark, it was better but not "oh wow" better.

That's because the front camera uses pixel binning.

I have Mi 9 SE since it became available in EU, April. There are some small things which bother me. One of them is camera. I tried latest gcam but it crashes and can't be used normally. I found that camera is worst in artificial lighting conditions. Both, main and selfie camera.
I visited Samsung brand store last week and tried to make selfies with almost all of their latest models. What surprised me is that selfies were better also on low budget Samsung phones compared to those I made with my Mi 9 SE in the same room under the same conditions. Room has lights on the ceiling and that was the biggest problem for Mi 9 SE - photos were foggy. Unfortunately I didn't save photos to show you examples.
The same problem occurred with main camera. I have one photo made by my phone, even Night mode was enabled while making that photo. You can see what I'm complaining about: drive.google.com/open?id=1-VvaDb8AQHGUKa5DVWNdEq3AfUsLkkSU
How does your phones act? Is there way to fix that problem?
My photos are Foggy too

I would not buy this phone if Gcam did not exist.
With Gcam this phone takes at least better pics than iPhone X.
Also it really depends which Gcam you use and which settings you prefer.

Indeed, with the Urnyx 7.3 Gcam and the bufferfix flashed in TWRP, the results are much better than Stock Xiaomi Camera.
Google really makes wonders at treating the picture quality, whereas Xiaomi sucks at it, no details in the pics, strange colors and white balance. The hardware is good but poorly used.
The results would even be better with EIS, but for a 300€ phone, the results are already pretty good with Gcam
