GT-i9060i - Samsung galaxy grand neo plus duos => new battery not working properly - Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo Plus Questions & Answers

Hello all,
facing an unexpected problem on my device Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo Plus Duos (double sim one) with battery and not sure if it's the battery fault, or android just decided to troll me and drive me nuts.
Running stock 4.4.4 android, but rooted (due to read/write restrictions for SD card and for the ease of Link2SD), had original battery inside for two years (phone is three years old, but for entire year it just sit at the desk, unused). Old battery recently swelled a little (found accidentally when I needed to replace SIM) so I opted for exchange for a new one. Same model, same number, original from Samsung (from local electro store, so 99%sure it's not fake).
Problem is, I put it in, charged it fully (it showed 50% charge when I put it in) and used the phone. At 30% the phone switched off and upon plugging it back in powered off, the indicator showed 0%. This happened three times in a row, so I returned the battery as a faulty piece and get another one (from the same store, everything is the same).
This time battery "died" at 19% charge (under load) and I charged it fully back, powered off. Next day I let it discharge with regular use, but noticed abrupt drop from roughly 30% down to 4% (no load, just standby with active wakelock - because without it the phone with SDcard refuses to get up from the deep sleep, another long story) where it discharged at normal speed down to zero. This time, when I tried to power the phone on, it did powered on for a few moments (this wasn't possible in previous attemtps), announced battery needs charge (with 0%) and shut off itself. Right now charging it fully in poweroff again, but have no idea what is going on ....
anyone knows, please? Seems the device is wrongly estimating and displaying the real charge left. Tried Battery Calibration apk from google store I found recommended online, but it didn't seem to have any effect .... is there something I can do with root access to "reset" the estimation and set it back on track? Or do I need to reflash the ROM from the scratch? (have it stored in my PC from before).
How are the chances two original batteries in a row are faulty pieces? I already disposed of the old battery, so don't have any comparisons as I never needed to study the charge and discharge processes into such detail ...
Also noticed with both the new batteries (thanks to the battery calibration apk) that the voltage drops down abruptly when I unplug the phone from charger. From 4,6mV to roughly 4,3mV instantly but without any changes in %charge display. Also seems the voltage is dropping down faster than the charge onscreen .... including the one in battery calibration apk.
Please help ....

Hardware/Battery Issue/Loss advanced question

Hi guys,
My had brother hard a problem with his phone regarding his battery life. He claimed it drained too quick. So he bought a new phone.
After I had "accidendatlly" destroyed the eMMC of my nexus 4 (See this thread) he gave me the phone and told me if I could fix it that I can buy it for a sharp price form him.
I've replaced the battery with a newly bought one online and got the phone out of hibernation mode by connecting it with USB cable and doing the volume down + power button trick.
I've noticed some issues regarding the battery:
- The first time I rebooted it battery life went from 96% to 84%. This was when doing a factory reset (from the menu in android 4.2.2). This has occured once.
- Last night the phone was fully charged so I hooked it off the charger and turned it off. This morning I turn it on and I notice the battery is at 66%. Literally 1/3 of the battery life was lost when the phone was turned off.
Obviously, (I think) there's a loss inside the hardware of some kind. There's one piece of history attached to the phone.
My brother had it one month and dropped it on the floor and his screen was cracked. He then let the screen be replaced by a repair center. They did replace the screen and locked the screws from the battery with some kind of glue (i think) because it was very hard to loosen them.
My questions:
- What could have caused this? Can it be by something done by the repair shop (reversible?)
- In which part of the hardware is this (loss) most likely to occur? Or one can't know this?
- Would it be sensefull to disassemble the phone and replace the screen with the screen from my broken phone (the one with the broken eMMC chip), or is there 0% chance on success by doing this swap?
- Any suggetions on how to tackle this problem or is it just something I'll need to accept. (which is hard to accept, )
Kind regards,
Semi
You should first try to charge it to 100%, then calibrate the battery (there's a little tool in the play store called BatteryCalibration). The percentage values are just approximate. Android knows the amount of mA the battery has when full and constantly checks the current as it drains to calculate the percentage left.
Calibrating the battery basically means deleting these statistic files to allow the system to start from scratch. You may need to do a few discharge/charge cycles until it is somewhat reliable.
If this doesn't help I assume the fault is hardware sided.

Hi thanks for your Swift reply. ive checked the app out and i think it needs root. This phone hasnt been rooted yet so ill Get to it when i get home. Greetings.
I do have the exact same problem (phone was never droped) - see this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...rs-off-charging-battery-t2701353#post57181337
Nexus 4 seems quite vunerable to this though I've not found the cause/solution for this on the web yet.
Exactly the same here: Old battery made a worn-out impression, so bought a new one. Actually tried three different new ones from ebay now, all do the same: They charge up to 4.3V around, and when unplugged drain to 87% in a few minutes, i noticed the voltage going down to 4.0/.1V mostly, too.
The current battery seems ok from battery life, but i want an even distribution of the battery status, no matter the voltages - how can i achieve/fix this?

[Q] Battery problem - suddenly turn off

It’s been a while that I have a strange problem with my batteries. I used two different batteries, both original, charged with the original charger support for the second battery (sell in bundle with it).
It’s almost two months that my phone started to turn off suddenly when the battery level is around the 30%, with both of them. I thought it was a problem related to the batteries age, since I’m using them in the last 2 years.
I tried anyway to contain the problem. As first option, I did a battery calibration. To do this I needed to discharge all the juice from batteries. I noticed that the residual 30% that I saw before the phone turn off wasn’t a fake value: it was real.
When I turn on the phone in recovery, the battery level is exactly the same that I have when phone turn off itself. Moreover, to reach 0% of battery level I have to wait a while and I can keep the screen on (always in recovery) for about an hour. On the other hand, if I try to restart the system, the phone turns off just after the Samsung logo of starts a non-sense bootloop.
Considering what I ‘ve written above, I think that my problem it’s not an hardware problem.
Does anyone have similar problems? Do you have any suggestion to avoid it?
As supplementary information, I’m running the last Italian official firmware with TWRP and root.
same problem
I am note 4 owner for 1 week now
it is an used phone (rebuy)
original rom 6.0.1 newest updates
on delivery the batterie was on 0%
first time use it shutdown at 35%
without warning
now after multiple charging and calibration
it shutdown at 20%
in 2 days I will get new Batterie and I will check again.
maybe batterie is old
Similar issue in the last week or so with my N4. Original replacement battery, 10 month old, turning off with no warning on reaching between 20-15 % charge mostly if i try to use the camera. I've put back the original battery and seems fine for now. Ordered another battery, Anker this time, just in case
Yeah Samsung carefully crafted these batteries so that they won't work any more after six months of usage of something. Mine is nine months old, the phone itself, brand new, and mine turns off at various battery percentages, sometimes its 5, sometimes its 12, I have stopped caring and I charge whenever I get a chance.
Conclusion Faulty Battery Only
Any battery poerventage is mainly determined with help of its volatage. As battery discharges this voltage also reduces. As battery grow older, we is gradually unable to handle the load as it used to when new one. Also battery life is determined by its charging and discharging cycles. It was all about basic. Now talking about note 4, being andriod fone and requres lot of battery so we usually charge it for 2 times depending on use.
The same problem was faced by me as well for note 4 at 30% it used to reboot all of sudden and thereafter bool loop (in actuality it is not as battery deoesnt handle load and it again starts to boot so no home screen). Replaced the battery with original one a month ago and now issue till date and fone lasts below 5 to 10% with 4G on and doing browsing.
So it is concluded for sure that battery problem.
Weird thing last night i experienced the same issue! And my phone is only 8 month old, i think this issue it's related to Samsung updates.. my phone did shut down in exactly 30% and started to go in bootloop i removed the battery and put it back and still the same i was about to factory reset my device for god sake ? luckily i did connect my charger before i factory reset my phone i gave it one last try and it did boot normally.
So i am not really sure what is going on.. no more updates for me unless it's a major changes

Happened to me too. I think it's the battery, I tried several batteries, some cause sudden power off some doesn't.
I'm upping my thread after two months to say that I solved my battery problem changing them. I bought a new one from Samsung official store and now I'm able to do more than 4 hours of SOT and charge phone once in two days (Red Dragon Note 7 porting). Before to change, I was not able to use any Sammy ROMs, due to several reboots and disgraceful battery life.
I don't know if the battery is the guilty for everyone's problems, but I really suggest to try to change it. Just, be sure to buy an original one, because there are a lot of genuine clones, especially on e-commerce sites.
For what regards the problem itself, I think that the cause could be the use of a different charger (Samsung, but for an earphone), coupled with the extra battery kit. Unfortunately the original adaptive fast charger stopped to work a month after the phone arrived and I didn't bother about it.
So, I also suggest to use only the original cables to charge the device.
I hope that this testimony will help someone with the same problem and, at same time, I also hope that Samsung will consider to use again removable batteries to give people the opportunity to do what I did.

Battery stats all over the place after battery replacement

My phone is used as a backup device and had very short , about 3 hours, standby time due to obvious age related battery wear so I decided to have a go at replacing the battery and reviving the old nexus 4.
I ordered a replacement battery off ebay (sold as OEM) and changed the battery myself. the phone was factory reset afterwards and left on charger overnight.
to my surprise it never gets above 42% and as soon as the cable is unplugged it goes nuts, drops to something like 15% then a minute afterwards it just shuts down. when turned back on its at 34% then drops again and turns off...
I have tried everything , factory reset full wipe, battery calibration apps etc without any success
any help would be greatly appreciated .
phone is stock 5.1.1 , rooted
Had the same issue, tried two "OEM" batteries from ebay, I put back my old used genuine battery. I was able to charge up to 100% but one was dying around 40%, the other around 20%.
Anyway the lifespan was really short (5-6hours) with the same drops and ups in the percentage as you described

Unusual (erratic) battery percent after battery removal?

Hi there.
I got this 2nd hand Note 3 (N9005) last week, and I'm testing battery life in different conditions with the original top update (5.0), before I flash a custom ROM and use it as my main phone.
System says battery is in good condition, and it has a fairly good standby time, but it drains quite fast (about 1% per minute) when active / SOT. GS monitor says I'm averaging 1h46m SOT, which I know is not good, and understandable since I guess this is the original battery.
Now the weird thing: I had about 13% battery when I turned it off. I removed the battery (I needed to take out the SIM card, I don't think this is related) but when I put the battery again in and turned it on, I had 35%!
I spent all of that until it has below 3%, it sounded the alarm and completely dimmed the screen and so, then I removed again the battery (checked also the contacts, nothing dirty on the battery or phone btw).
When I put again the battery, I got 18% power left. Now it's gone and I am afraid to play this game anymore - I'll just give it a full charge.
Does anyone experienced similar behavior? I wonder if it's a calibration problem, or a known symptom for old batteries.
As a side note, I had a Note 3 Neo Duos last year and the battery was bad. It used to discharge almost instantly from 30% to zero and turned off the phone. However I remember that I could remove and put again the battery for some extra life, just the same. I'm more or less terrified by this lol.
(The Neo Duos, N7502, was stuck at 4.3 without any development. I'm glad I was able to get this N9005 now).
I'm attaching a GS mon. screenshot showing usage so far, and the system Battery Use that shows the two points when I removed the battery.
Difficult to follow your post.
Suggest as first step Wipe Battery stats.bin.
Or from play store battery calibration app to wipe battery stats.
This will not calibrate battery just reset battery stats.

Strange battery behaviour - percentage not correct - random shutdowns

Hi,
i have experienced a strange battery behaviour after i swapped a battery from another d802 model (better battery, not so used as mine)
it was working fine for some short period then the nightmare started to happen...
device shutting down on i.e. 70% battery, shutting down on its own - showing much less battery - i.e. 40%, shutting down on its own again - sometimes doing this several times - until it reaches some 5-6% and stays there for some time until it finally drains out to 1-2% (or i guess it does)...
i've tried several roms - even going totally back to stock lollipop (via flash tool) - nothing changed...
the device only stays up if it's connected to the charger...
i never had an issue like this on any android devices, even with much older batteries (i.e my good old LG P990-Optimus 2x still works without a problem)
to make things more strange - this thing started to happen on the donor device as well (which is now using my old battery - which was doing fine, pushing some 3hrs screen on time on average but without any issues close to this)
i've tried to drain the batteries down and recharging it up to 100% with the devices off - leaving them on charger for some extra time (several hours more) - but this didn't do much...
now i'm afraid what would happen if i buy a new battery (i.e. Polarcell one) - would that solve my issue or not...
i'd be sad if i had to throw my old companion in trash, would love to keep it at least as a backup device and getting the new daily driver...
i don't believe in battery calibration apps at all so please skip suggesting those but any other suggestion/help/idea is more than welcome...
thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post...
cheers all
in addition - device works perfectly fine when it's connected to a charger...
another update:
i have pulled out batteries from devices (both d802 models that i have)
connected them carefully to an external battery charger (Xtar VC4 with battery charging current and voltage reading screen) using thin +/- cables (did that several times already to revive Samsung tablet battery with success but this time i only wanted to know does my device show real voltage/capacity)
both batteries show full capacity and no error... but they just don't work as they should in the device itself... like something is messing up their reading on the motherboard itself...
can something be shorted to reset this behaviour?
note - device works perfectly when it's connected to a charger, even when connected to a computer...
btw AccuBattery shows 100% charge at the moment with 4.348mV voltage (which i think is ok for a full battery)
one thing i've noticed yesterday - AccuCharger showing the estimate of some 500mAh capacity (out of 3000mAh) - that was weird to me (but i don't know how AccuBattery calculates that estimate)
newest update:
- bought a new Polarcell battery > all problems are gone
