Well you have screenshots, gsmarena provides scientific numbers measurred with professional tools. So i choose to believe them You maybe dont like colour calibration, but that doesnt make screen bad. Its actually quite accurate, but not really "punchy".

Since the Redmi Note 5 AI is my first Xiaomi phone ever and I cannot compare it to the older ones, I just can write my own opinion here and my opinion is since I bought it 3 months ago, the screen is just amazing and the colors are totally acceptable and natural. I honestly cannot notice any color saturation. (It's just my opinion, so please keep calm guys)

I guess I'm free to say my opinion and you are defending on your opinion but after all i could buy many devices in the same amount of money with a better display color after all it's a good device but there is no device is perfect so there is no need to be so offensive it's not your family company i guess

But if you read proffesional reviews on RN5, display is very good. Its one of the best in this price range

this is my second xiaomi phone.is really funny that my old redmi 4 Prime has better colours!this phone has really bad washed out colours.I use an app called sa2ration.it makes really big difference, but not to the point to catch my old RN4.I wonder if there are some custom KCAL settings to insert with some custom kernel like icecold.

Here you can find many profiles https://telegra.ph/KCAL-Colour-Settings-03-10 I really like the deep natural one. Icecold has also implemented sRGB which gives nice colours too.

Using a root explorer(I use mixplorer) go to system>etc>device_features>whyred.xml and make the screen_effect_supported line look like this. You will lose night mode but kcal changes will remain.

Maybe the problem is that your system isn't mounted as write. You have to mount system from recovery first or else you won't be able to perform system changes.

[REQUEST] Add KCAL support to stock kernel, it is possible?

Hi, since our Mi A1 display is quite pale (and color calibration is inaccurate), it would be fantastic to have KCAL support in order to use for example Kernel Adiutor to calibrate the screen (as we can do with Redmi Note 4 global on Lineage OS rom with patched kernel). I have tried with Color Changer Pro but it's pretty limited (saturation change give poor results).
Now that the sources are released (even if nougat-based) , it will be easy to apply using the guidelines in this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/dev-kcal-advanced-color-control-t3032080 ?
Thanks in advance
PS: sorry if it's quite similar to a mine old post, but I have posted it in the wrong section last time, so I please mods to cancel the incorrect post.

well it's too early to demand anything in kernel as far as i saw devs here all are in try to make custom roms well I don't think it is much necessary (we are on stock already) we need custom kernels first so if a one developer should work only to make kernel source stable it would be great and yes this features would be implemented but we have to wait
in a month we can get android 8.0 stable kernel and OS i think

I have seen hundreds of mi a1, screen is far form perfection, colors are under saturated and contrasts are poor. G3 had poor colors too. Redmi Note 4 has the same problem (and a quite similar panel), but with kcal I was able to do big improvements to the screen. I attach an example.
LEFT -> Redmi note 4 calibrated RIGHT -> Mi a1 hope you can appreciate the difference, it's not easy to show it in camera

I see what you mean... still i don't think there is much of difference for an ordinary usage.. for such low level device I don't think we (I) should have expect anything different and in the end ... it is still an old IPS technology so for really sharp and accurate colors - AMOLED. In the end it is a matter of taste and as this device is yours you should be able to modify it up to your taste.
I find colors of mine very close to what Nexus 5x delivered, which was supposed to be very accurate. AMOLED is usually anything but calibrated, punchy & nice, but not accurate. But there seems to be a great variation of different LCD panels in Mi A1, so I was probably the lucky one..

Hmm, looks exactly the same to me.
On what color profile are you on?
I think my colors are a bit more punchy and saturated now as well, just done update.
Will check if my GF will see any difference as hers phone is updating now...

That's possible, there were about 59 bug fixes from what I read.....One thing for sure that was fixed is the FPS....much better :good:

I noticed that black crush was slightly better after the March update. Watching the HDR sheep video the dark parts weren't completely black. Also, that black box test I compared what boxes I was able to see compared to others and I was able to see the darker boxes

I'm on natural color scheme and what I noticed was the black background I use for wallpaper seems, well, blacker. It might not be a color improvement but rather a contrast one...

How to increase screen saturation on mi a1?

I use the made in China version. So I'm not sure which display this has. But I would like to have a bit vibrant vivid display. So is there any way to increase the screen saturation on mi a1 device? Please don't suggest any custom ROM and kennels. Thank you.
from whatever display you're using it's not possible to add vividness to the MiA1 screen.. it's somehow native that way, in times you'll get used to it.. well I did at least..
moving from Mi4i with MIUI interface it's possible to set an appropriate a comfortable saturation available
but for the moment being you might be able to get a vivid color (saturation) using a third party app (I never search for it though)

Phones with good spec and low price range always have good possibility for getting good devs, that's what happened. Let's hope f7 too get the same attention.
Overall its a great phone but really not a fan of ColorOS, need some xda magic. But then I read somewhere that Oppo has violated GPL by not turning our kernel sources before :S

Well, it's a great phone with great specifications vs price. But did you check/notice its SAR values?
I've been using oppo realme 1 since a day. Lacking of fingerprint sensor is a con. Face unlock in nights or dark condition is also not possible. Overall phone is very great. No led notification light presence . less bloat ware but it comes with 24 gb preoccupied os and 104 gb free ROM overall. Battery optimisation was pretty good. Face unlock is faster and good but it unlocks when sleeping or easy to others unlock while we sleep or unaware. Waiting for XDA magic .
Yes the phone is amazing I have the 3gb version and I am happy with it .
This is my first phone from oppo and I am happy.and i trust oppo more than other brand like mi or honor, have used both of the smartphones
Phone performance is good.
i very irritated about the color os.
i cant change wallpaper
cant change launcher to pixel launcher
face unlock is not working in low light and the pin is 6 digit. it should have fingerprint scanner
cant dismiss notification in one swipe. [copy ios for a good thing]
lot of simple android feature they mad it very complicated and difficult to use[eg : - screen splitting]
camera have some grainy even in good light condition[ but that is not my concern]
i will change some stock android at the moment it is available.
COLOR OS SUCKS.
PS : i jist got the phone today only. more comes. and i cant find any feature as handy in color os exept the navigation that gives full display view
Simple Questions
1. How do I change the fonts? Have iFonts installed and downloaded the font I want to change to, but I dont find the setting to change fonts
2. How / Where do I get to see the Data / Wifi Usage and Battery drain over a time line
Coming to the Realme 1 from the good old OnePlus 1, so kind of took these as granted.
Realme 1 doesn't have the option to show battery usage. I could be wrong but i was not able to find the option.
Changing fonts through iFonts need the phone to be rooted?

Custom ROM will change the scene,
possibly in near future.
Sent from my MotoG3 using XDA Labs
I wanted to buy realme 1 as I liked it's processor and aggressive price. But the only thing I am worried about is Dev support for custom roms. If anyone can assure me I will buy the smartphone. Oppo doesn't seem like a brand that wants it's users to root and use custom roms on their device
I'm enjoying this device for more than a week now. First thing I love with this device is cellular reception/call quality. Next is dual 4G. Quick app loading time.
Down side I could say,
Camera seems to soften the image too much.
Memory management in 3GB variant is poor.
Overall excellent device and its really worth every rupee!

Do custom roms have dc dimming?

Since the stock rom does not.
Next LineageOS 17.1 build will have it. Stay tuned.
I read somewhere that is a hardware related limitation of our device. Does not work in Amoled.

This is not the case. Xiaomi is unwilling to add dc dimming to the redmi k20 (mi 9t). Xiaomi has added dc dimming to many amoled screen devices previously released.
I hope xiaomi or a custom rom will add dc dimming. I now use Oled saver app.
