Doing so wont help much, major custom roms like los, rr, paranoid releases general codes and developer compile them to our device.
For example rr releases source code 3 days ago and we have it yesterday, took approximately 1-2 days to come.
Los was our device was released in October only(at the ending weeks).
Other developers like aosp extended, viper, and many other released there oreo version in December starting.
Project treble will help when we have codes only for our device and not dependent on general source code.
Even though our device is now like 2years old, even if we get Android P for this device how many are going to use it till next year

I don't think Lenovo would care to bring treble budget devices ..

Considering the current development scenario, keep in mind that implementing treble on a non treble device will require a newer implementation and/or shimming of the vendor blobs which is a difficult task . But who knows maybe in future we can have this option?
Anyways stock won't get it too:

Actually not only lenovo but all the manufacturer using Android OS as there base have to release there phones under project treble.
Devices which comes out-of-the-box with oreo do support project treble (even budget one).
Google has made is mandatory to pass vendor HIDL after HALS if device do come with oreo, otherwise they are not certified Android OS for that device by google.
So if you are going to buy a new phone who has oreo out of the box congratulations your device support project treble.
Have you think why one plus 5T was released with nougat out of the box whereas 3/3t got oreo couple of weeks later only[emoji57] and yes a8 and a8+ too?

They will have to sooner or later when they start selling devices with Oreo from the get go (as in devices with only 8 and not something upgraded from 7).

I heard people install oem folder as vendor files

Let's talk about Android Nougat on the idol 3. At this moment, it really looks like we will get official cm this time around. After we get everything working cm-14 should be more stable. The only worries I have is radio and audio. As of now there aren't any known devices getting Nougat with a snapdragon 615 processor so getting updated blobs may take us quite a while a month or so. Or we may have to wait for a new device to release.

Thanks god my Idol 3 came deffective and i had return to Amazon and got full refund.
Idol3 is still a fantastic phone, I'm still running marionette cm12.1 and 7 months later it still works perfectly. But if I were buying now, I'd probably go for something newer. However it'll be very hard to find another model with same performance and studio quality for the same price.

Are you building Lineage or Resurrection Remix?

Android 7.0 is the last version update for Z5!

I am realy sorry to share that. Sony will not release 7.1 or newer version of Android for Z5. Already 7.0 released by Sony for some regions, but it was a big joke for all of us.
Stock Nougat features, it does not have more for a Xperia device.
I miss the freedom of Android after my Moto G and Nexus.

What's the fount of your post?
I think it's better if you post the fount of your leak...
I also think that 7.0 could be the last official update for the z5 but may be not, 7.1.1 was release just a few months later than 7.0 so maybe recive the update
Fake news?

The OPs source is simply from a post someone made over at the Nougat update thread.
I doubt we will see Xperia X features in future updates, but I don't think this will be the last ever update for the Z5 series phones.
Ill only belive this when Sony make and official announcement.
+1 for believing we'll see further android updates...Hopefully!
Yeah, this device was launched on SEP 2015, so don't had two years of support...
And Sony with its z devices (Z3 for example) start in 4.4 and jump to 5.0 - 5.0.1 - 5.1 - 6.0 - 6.0.1... And that's two years+ of updates...
So maybe (if we're lucky) can't wait other update ... And if don't happend, well, we still have lineage os
.

Not if 8.0 is announced after the 2 years of the Z5's release...
Do not kid yourselves, Z5 won't get 8.0, it is highly debatable whether it will get 7.1.1. at this point. I've owned almost every Sony flagship phone except the XZ and they typically got 2 major updates and that's it.
I'm seriously think about wait for the nokia 6
Why? Z5 is much more powerful device than Nokia 6, if you have one ofc.

With project treble rom development will become easy AF (we hope!). Please sign, it's an important improvement for our phone.
Can Treble feature be added to a phone after the choice is made not to support it right off the bat? I thought the treble setup requires two different partitions that need to be part of the factory original file structure of the phone.

Yes but their 8.0 update already supported treble.
Guys I wouldnt be to excited about this. Here are a few reasons.
1. OEM will still be in charge of sending out updates. Which we all know will not change
2. This does 0 for custom rom development at all. Most devs have already stated they will not support it or even bother with it.
3. The petition means less then nothing really.
4. The Mate 9 update is broke and doesnt work nearly as well as they are claiming in the portal post. (If you go to thread you will see that it is still unstable and requires tons of work to make it work right)
5. Even if you did flash an aosp rom with Treble, you would lose all OEM features.
Maybe we don't need an official treble, seems op5 and maybe op5t has the proper hardware to support it non-officially.
Keep an eye here for info:

Why it's not going to happen, petition or not:
OmegaHsu @oneplus.net said:
Project Treble requires a storage partition, by which the Android framework and vendor image are separated. However, because partitions were not required of Android N and previous versions of Android, all of our current devices do not feature a partition. According to our tests, if we were to modify the partition layout via OTA there is a risk that devices will brick during the partitioning. We feel this poses too great a risk for our community of users, which is why we have decided not to implement Project Treble on current OnePlus devices.

i guess we have to close the thread.
Really? Why can't we keep pushing and discussing it? First of all, oneplus could have easily implemented a second partition given that Oreo was already out of for months when the 5t was released. So this is excuse sounds a bit lame to me. Second, why not providing us with the vendor files so that developers can find a partitioning implementation that users use on their own responsibility?
No Treble support was well known before release. Not sure I understand why folks purchased it if they wanted Treble support.

Their software pipeline is definitely more than a few months long. I'd bet the Nougat build was already a ways into development before Oreo came out, and at that point starting over would have been silly.
So what? I don't care what software I'm on, if it's stable, battery life good, and there's not much change is android oreo, **** guys you are like bunch of kids, if it works why change?
I think our best bet right now is hoping someone will develop a 5T ROM with hacked in Treble Support so we can then use the upcoming unified Treble Updates. Not much hope we'll see any support from OnePlus and they are getting slower and slower with their Updates...

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

I'd say slim to none given Huawei's track record. The only reason I would see it change is if Treble makes it that much easier for them and they actually did go through the trouble of enabling support for that with the Oreo update.
People booted Android P today on our device with Treble, so you will have it, but not officially though.

There's some people who are still waiting for the official OREO OTA update & that was released a year ago :crying:
so my guess is 'Zero'
Well, Google releasing the source code is not the same so Oreo has been rolling out for the P10 lite for a few months. It's possible we'll get Pie in a year. It's just unlikely as Huawei would rather you buy a new phone.

You're quite right...
'Google' OREO update was released a year ago, but 'Huawei' OREO updates has only been about 4 months (I think the OREO 'Beta' program started the beginning of May) - my mistake
Mind you it is still 5-6 months a lot of us have been waiting for an official non-beta firmware update (B197 was released Dec 17/Jan 18 IIRC)...
..... Huawei are soooooo slooowww on updates
