LG H820 Woes - AT&T LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

So a friend of mine purchased one of the H820's on amazon and now it's impossible to update it seems since we're in Canada with no AT&T option.
I've looked all over for roms/kdz files and the answer is : SOL.
Is there any custom alternative roms like Tizen/lineage/*anything!!!* that works well instead?
(I looked on lineage's site and there seems to be no version for the h820 )

Updates
Search the forums for how to get the updates in Canada. I'm on Rogers with an H820 and I've just got the Jan 1 security patch. You need an At&t active sim. As for custom roms, I agree, SOL.

friends or family with at&t carrier
hello friends from colombia, i tryed with *#546368#*820# field test, dm/fota test, i can see my user=imei and pass=xxx but it doesn'' t work....i think that if you have a friends with at&t carrier can update and search the update in the internal memory and share. What do you think? search friends that have a at&t as carrier, in the forum..etc

Any updates on this? I'd love to be able to root my LG G5 H820 and install LineageOS on it.

[Q] UNLOCKED AT&T LG G2, Can't get latest update?

Hi, I've got an unlocked LG G2, originally AT&t (D800 model), now being used with T-Mobile.
I've got a bit of an issue; I can't update the phone.
I had ordered it from Amazon (New), and it came with stock Android 4.4.2, but it is not the latest version, which has many new features, including Knock Code.
Now, I know for a fact that an OTA update won't work, seeing as it's not connected to AT&T's network, but I had assumed i could update it from my PC.
I was wrong; LG PC Suite says that it has the latest version, and that there is no update available.
The exact software version is included in the screenshot below:
Well, I went to the forum of AT&T's community to ask about Lollipop and they said it didn't came out yet... Anyways, they told me the only way is updating OTA... So I think you'll need to ask a friend to lend you his/her AT&T sim card.

It looks like a generic response where they substitute whatever model number is being inquired about . Since the Sprint version is months behind other variants already being upgraded this person responding doesn't seem to have a clue . At this point I don't think Sprint has any intention or plan to have LG upgrade our phone to oreo . The verizon model was updated 6 months ago .
https://www.mylgphones.com/lg-g5-an...ad-lg-g5-android-oreo-8-0-stock-firmware.html
Yes this is not going to happen, it's better to get rid of this phone
whaaaaaaaaaaat? they Wont give us oreo?
As of April 4th, the Indian variant of the LG G5 is now receiving the Oreo update....so by a VERY small chance, we may still get Oreo... Im off contract, so I only use this phone for my second Pokemon Go account connected via hotspot, so I'm not DYING for the update, but damn LG and Sprint....a promise is a promise.

Why AT&T makes it so hard to update their phones?

Hi,
I really love my G892A S8 Active that I've purchased used in Canada.
But for some reason AT&T don't want their phone to be updated while on another network. This is the first carrier I've seen that does that (blocking OTA updates). Any real reason for this?
I've even tried with a prepaid SIM card from AT&T and paid the 35$ plan to later found out that you really need to be on the AT&T network (US) instead of a roaming network with a working ATT plan.
Even the attcompute.com site where I used to get OTA updates looks it is now blocked from any Canadian ISP.
xdmd.sl.attcompute.com/agents/48974/1488/SS-G892AUCS2ARA1-to-U2BRA3-UP
This used to work 3 weeks ago with the phone user agent. Now, all attempts return DNS look-up failed..
I had other carriers unlocked phone OTA successfully on another carrier network.
This is crazy... why block people from updating their AT&T unlocked phones????
And yes I know about XDA OTA source but it is not always up to date and depends on user base to upload OTA and make it available to general public.
Last security update is G892AUCS5CSH1 but I cannot find it anywhere... not even on xda.
Thanks!
Laurent
I have the exact same problem. I was able to find the pie update but not the last G892AUCS5CSH1 security patch.
they don't do it, because it will broke the sin unlock
The latest baseband for the AT&T version of the Galaxy S8 Active (a.k.a. the G892A) is G892AUCS5CTL1. You can find it linked from this post or this one and install with Odin 3.14.1.

NEW V35 [7/2020] Stuck on OREO?

Just bought this phone about a week ago, it is an Unlocked AT&T Model. It tells me basically that it does not need a OS Update - that it has the Latest 8.0. I am giving up on LG Support already!
Using their APK to update via USB told me that it cannot even check the Version of the OS, so definitely NO Update for this SUCKER!
Can anyone here PLEASE help me find a way to UPDATE this nice Smart Phone?
THANKS!

This is what LG's response is to me about getting my AT&T Unlocked V35 Updated fm A. 8.0:
Hi Michael, we appreciate your time in getting back to us. I will be happy to assist you today.
In response to your inquiry, for carrier unlocked phones, the only way to get it updated is, you need to have a service again with the original service provider for them to send or push the Software update to your phone. While LG has no control with the software updates for carrier unlock phones, compared to manufacture unlock phones it automatically receives the software updates that was released OTA (Over the Air).
I hope I have provided all the information and wish it has been helpful in addressing your query. It has been a pleasure to help you out to the best of my knowledge and my skills.
Should you have any other questions, please feel free and don't hesitate to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 1-800-793-8896. As this email is used for outgoing mail only, you may send file attachments, replies, any information and further inquiries over to the email section of support https://www.lg.com/us/support/email-appointment and we will do our best to assist you without you having to repeat the details of your previous message.
Thank you for choosing LG Electronics!
Sincerely,
Johannes
I have to leave T-Mobile [cheaper/better] and go to AT&T - RATS!

I heard from LG Support and they said that since it is an AT&T Unlocked Phone and not unlocked by them - I have to sign up with AT&T and noot my T-Mobile too get Updated....RATS....I just left
AT&T for better and cheaper service from T-Mobile and now I have to go back....guess I will and if/when they upgrade this NICE phone I will leave dem again!
Or as I suggested, you simply cross flash to North American Open Market (NAO) firmware via Dev Patched LGUP.
You can also try temporarily putting in an AT&T SIM card (not even activated) and that can trigger AT&T update, if left for a few hours.
But people in other countries just cross flash to NAO as they don't need AT&T firmware whatsoever.

Yes, people report AT&T SIM card will do the trick. Either prepaid or postpaid, they are both the same. Supposedly they don't have to be activated -- as long as you have AT&T firmware on your phone.
Some say a Red Pocket (AT&T MVNO) SIM card will, also. While Cricket (owned by AT&T) SIM card will not.

Called Best Buy to see IF I could pay someone there to Flash my V35, like you recommend, but they are not allowed to do things like that. Turning to Craig's List now.
Hey buddy, it's easy to do yourself. Just follow this comment and the linked guide. Process is the same. Super simple and straightforward. Let me know if you have any questions.

Latest firmware for the V35 now (AT&T does have an early version of the Android 10 update, but kdz not released. We have to wait for a ULM kdz to be released to flash the 10 and update. Until then we're on Android 9 still) is the 04/2020 update. Sort by date on lg-firmwares.com, for device choose LMV350ULM, you want the ULM as its the unlocked carrier free version of the V35, and crossflashing the AT&T version is completely safe (I'm using an AT&T V35 in Canada on Koodo with the ULM software). In the software list choose GFI or USA (I'd recommend the USA version, unless you're on google fi).

Buy one of these AT&T SIM cards. Less than $3 with free shipping.
Leave it in overnight, see if the OTA update shows up.
Keep your T-Mobile. This is just to trigger the update.

THANKS for Great Suggestion, I looked over the LINKS etc. and bookmarked but at my age etc., I am alot more TECH SAVY than probably most 81 yr olds BUT I just don't feel confident enough trying to follow all of those instructions, wish I did....know it appears SIMPLE, but I just paid for this NICE Phone and would HATE to BRICK it!
BTW...just abit ago I got notice you sent me a PM but when I tried to open it [SORRY] I guess my Blocker blocked it and sent it into
CyberSpace or something....can't seem to find it now. I just followed ChazzMatt's TIP - and ordered a $2.99 ATT Sim Card to put into my LG V35 to hopefully trigger aN UPDATE. Laters, Michael
Just follow this video for upgrading your V35 to latest firmware
so, (directed toward Chazzmatt) I'm just needing a recommendation on which one to do (or wait for). Ive got the ATT unlocked model on MetrobyTMobile. (LM-V350AWM) I first updated it via modified LGUP to V350ULM20d (V350ULM20d_00_NAO_US_OP_0612), then to V350ULM20f (V350ULM20f_00_NAO_US_OP_0218). ((it still shows as V350AWM in the sys info, but all bloatware is gone))
Now, a while back I went into an ATT store and got them to sell me an un-activated sim card, and tried to update that way and failed (not knowing you had to wait a couple hours or overnight). My question is, would the simcard ota update work for me, and if so, would it be the full blown bloated att version of 10.
Or, should I just keep patiently waiting for the NAO KDZ (V350ULM30?) like you've been screaming for us to do since the very beginning! lol
(apologies for the gratuitous use of parentheses)
*Update - They're now saying we will be getting LG's new Velvet UI, should I wait even longer for that to be released???

The AT&T SIM card trick only works if you still have AT&T firmware installed.
If you cross flashed to another V35 firmware you need to wait for that KDZ to be released. It's coming. LG is just slow. Same deal last year with Pie.

ah, thanks for clearing that up! I'm guessing we might have to wait even longer now that they've announced we'll be getting Velvet UI and need time to add that to the KDZ, or is the UI update something that will come later on?

Latest firmware/ROM to use for Verizon on Tmobile S7E (root preferred)

I have an old Tmobile S7E on old ass firmware (Android 7.0 BQE1) and it's already rooted. I just went through Tmobiles Device Unlock process and I believe the phone was unlocked successfully. I'm looking to upgrade to the latest firmware that still allows rooting. I've looked through the Custom Roms threads and can't tell which one is the latest. I am also wondering if I need to use Verizon firmware or stay on Tmobile firmware.
For instance, this thread here: by jrkruse, he mentions to another user in the comments "This one or verizon one? This one just has the Tmobile csc stuff added and a build.prop for gsm carriers thats it" so it made me wonder if I'm using Verizon service but it's a Tmobile phone if this would work. I know Verizon is CDMA so him saying gsm carriers made me think it may not work.
I know this device is old and this thread doesn't get browsed as much anymore so hopefully I can get some answers. If I can't get this working I guess I'll just be getting a new 2020 model phone :highfive:
Thanks guys!
