Trouble rooting note 4 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I upgraded to the note 8 in sept from note 4, I have tried to root the note 4 using kingroot but it hasn't worked. I even put the phone back to factory default and it still won't work. Any help will be appreciated

Depends on the variant of the Note 4 you have, but you can use Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root with Odin and it'll root your Note 4

Root
Thanks for the reply. I'm not very tech minded about this subject. What do u mean by variant.

What note 4 variant do you have - N910C, N910F or which one?
Do you have Odin installed on your PC? If not, you need to install it.
http://www.samsungodindownload.com/download/
Search for hthe variant of your phone here - https://twrp.me/Devices/Samsung/
Download the file you need for your phone and flash it with Odin.
You can search how to do it or follow this nice tutorial of our XDA god guy TK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2oOvf5tOCY
Good luck!

2 Nights ago I made the mistake of upgrading my device. Samsung, I think OTA is the right term? Now on 4.4.2.
Am I correct in understanding that there is currently no working root method for my SM-N900T?
I have to be missing something?
Thanks

No, It can be rooted. I rooted immediately on upgrade a week ago.
Search the general Note 3 thread for CF-Autoroot. Use the version for the N9005. Yes! not the N900T. Apply using ODIN.
The N900T version will not work.
Here is the link. http://download.chainfire.eu/352/CF-...xx-smn9005.zip Make sure to extract the tar file from the zip downloaded.
Ok, I'll keep digging!
Thanks.

First download this file. I know you said you downloaded a file already but there are 2 files of the same name and one is for 4.3 and can soft brick your phone if used on a 4.4.2, so just making sure you have the right one.
Extract the downloaded file and run odin. Click PDA button and navigate to the cf auto root tar file you just extracted. Put phone in download mode and connect to usb on pc then click the start button. Should take about few seconds to complete then phone will restart itself to root it then restarts again to system.
hi,
thank you very much for your help, it works my Note is Root Now !! thank you very much for your help

Untouched Lollipop Firmware (androidfilehost.com)

Some people have requested other download links to get their firmware from other places than sammobile.com. I have to agree with them, when I downloaded from there it was a$$ slow and they make you pay for a quicker download speed....which is a HORRIBLE model for the android community. Others also couldn't download from sammobile directly on their device. Therefore, I have started to download certain firmware and upload to Android file host.
Here is what I have compiled so far:
SM-N910T - N910TUVU1COD6
SM-N910W8 - N910W8VLU1BOC4
SM-N910R4 - N910R4TYU1BOC4
I used this method to install:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2903733
Is there any other firmware you would like? Let me know and I will add it to the collection.
I am not responsible for any damage, flash at your own risk.
If I install this can I put twrc recovery and use cf autoroot?

No. Those are base firmware tar files. Flash via Odin 3.09 or newer. Both CF Auto Root and TWRP are flashed in the same manner.

So the phone can be rooted and backed up after the update is what I'm saying?

Yes you can. If you update via Odin, you can then also use CF autoroot to root and install TWRP. I will post a link to what I have used to do this. I am using COD6 rooted with TWRP 2.8.6.0

I was wondering what other firmwares can be flashed to a Tmobile Note 4? Is it dependent on what other regions have the Qualcomm processor in the Note 4? I'd love to try something other than the Tmo firmware.
Thank you good sir!

I just happened to see your unanswered question - didn't know if you were still looking for an answer - unfortunately you cannot flash firmware from another phone on your phone using ODIN without bricking your device. you can flash the new Firmware for your phone and follow steps offered in the various XDA threads to install roms that are based on different variants - for example - if you are on TMOBILE Note 4 - once you have rooted - you can flash a Rom from the International version of the NOTE 4 - there is another file you have to flash to fix certain problems - but it can be done. you probably should do a google search to find all of the specifics - good luck - hope I helped you.

Thanks, it makes sense. I got a little confused for a minute because I can flash any country's firmware on my Tab S, but it's the WiFi - only version. Now I remember about installing international ROMs on the Note, system only. Thanks buddy [emoji106]

Please read most carefully. I wrote that is the same way for all stock lolipop rom for international N9005.
This method will trip your knox counter.
Aren't there any other solutions to keep the counter to 0?
Now I have the N9005XXUGBOA1 rooted, and want to flash the newer N9005XXUGBOG2 without loosing the root.
Yes there is.
I used this method for my n900w8 and should work for your model using the specific files for the n9005.

Hi there,
I updated my SN-9500 (International) successfully from Firmware 4.3 to 5.0 (using N9005XXUGBOA1_HOME.tar. But I am not able to ROOT it again. Nothing works: neither KINGO ROOT, neither the way kouros17 mentioned (refering to Chainfire). I trief each and everything.
Every attempt leads to the message: SECURE CHECK FAIL: recovery and the downloading interrupts always after 4mm. Does anyone of you has another idea to get the ROOT work? All the normal and common ways do not work. Thanks in advance for helping me out ... Robert
When I upgraded to lollipop I followed the instruction found here on XDA but I didn't remember the exact thread .... You have to flash the old kernel of KitKat on lollipop, use towel root, then flash the lollipop's kernel..
