Pixel 2 - terrible Android/software experience - Google Pixel 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Pixel 2 is my first Google phone and I bought it as I thought it would be the best android experience there is, based on all the review in major web tech outlets. I was very wrong. I am experiencing bugs on daily basis and there seems to be hundreds of people with same issues, yet nothing is fixed months after phone release. Could XDA look into this a publish an article that would hopefully be picked up by other sites so Google owns the issues?
I am on Jan security patch, we are over 3 months in from the launch and not much improvement.
Current issues:
- missed screen inputs/taps. In Photos/Camera double tap won't zoom in until several tries.
- double tap to wake is hit and miss, many times after multiple tries I have to use power button to wake up the phone
- difficult to swipe away notifications from lock screen or swipe up to unlock
- getting camera fatal error message and camera app freezes, factory reset and update to 8.1 helped with frequency but not fixed permanently
- home screen widget never shows any upcoming events if created on web or though another account like exchange - super stupid
- Bluetooth is totally unusable. Dropped connections in a car, audio that won't go neither in connected Bluetooth device nor phone speaker itself, disconnecting bluetooth headsets in the middle of the call etc.
- the audio dongle to connect wired headset rarely works and requires phone reboot with it connected to work
There is hundreds posts on Google product forums with these issues, yet no fix. I have reported these issues multi times, no one ever reached out to me. To some issues from the above Google actually admitted to them with only saying there will be a fix in a future fix, no ETA or what they are doing about it.
It is a joke for a phone that is over $700 with tax. The 8.0 seemed like a beta version pushed on people, I am tired of this practice. I had a Blackberry Priv which was BB's first Android phone and the OS had way less bugs than Pixel. You would think that Google's software would be perfect given their resources and that they basically write the OS.
I love the camera on the Pixel and it was pretty much the only reason I bought it. We have a baby and it takes great pictures super fast in all light conditions. But once others catch up with the imaging tech I think I will never go back to Google.

thank you for your honest impressions / thoughts
I want to spend the time and comment on your issues:
- missed screen inputs/taps. In Photos/Camera double tap won't zoom in until several tries.
- double tap to wake is hit and miss, many times after multiple tries I have to use power button to wake up the phone
- difficult to swipe away notifications from lock screen or swipe up to unlock
three points are related to the touchscreen. I have never experienced a single one of them and i am pretty sure there arent a lot of complaints in the www
In my honest opinion, why didnt you use your waranty ? This seems to be a defect on your device.
- getting camera fatal error message and camera app freezes, factory reset and update to 8.1 helped with frequency but not fixed permanently
I have never experienced this issue, and dont know about any reports
- home screen widget never shows any upcoming events if created on web or though another account like exchange - super stupid
It is clearly stated that this widget works with google account ... you can call this a stupid a choice but it is not a bug
- Bluetooth is totally unusable. Dropped connections in a car, audio that won't go neither in connected Bluetooth device nor phone speaker itself, disconnecting bluetooth headsets in the middle of the call etc.
my bluetooth connection in my car, bluetooth headset and even kde connect works flawlessly
- the audio dongle to connect wired headset rarely works and requires phone reboot with it connected to work
well, its an audio dongle ... going for a smartphone without the headphone jack, you should have bt headset or usb type c headset ...

IF you're not trolling, why would you keep a device like this? Sell it and take maybe a $100 hit and get a device you like. The amount of effort and time you put into this rant would have paid for itself. You need to prioritize.

You must have a defective phone, you should return/exchange it. I haven't experienced any of these issues. The Pixel 2 is by far the most usable and bug free phone I have ever owned.

This is clearly not true. There's hundreds of people on google product forums with same issues. I have tried all suggested fixes, clearing cache, app reinstalls, even factory reset.
What is RMA going to do with software issues as everyone suggests? Nothing! There is so many people who went through multiple RMAs and all issues are back, since it is all software issues.
As I said, the camera is super important to me and at the moment there is not anything better than Pixel camera (with maybe iPhone X being equal but I will never buy iPhone). If Galaxy S9 delivers in camera department I will for sure get rid of Pixel.
Just to open your eyes for those who say I am the only one with these issues:
Camera fatal error:

Swipe issues:

Btw, I have the verizon version with non-verizon SIM. If I did not sideload updates manually I would still be on Sep 17 security patch. Another issue that Google admitted to and said they don't intend to fix.

The OP does have some valid points. I've noticed a few of these issues as well. Most notably the missed touches, hit or miss dt2w and the swiping problems from the lock screen.
It's an awfully expensive device to be having issues with.

I can partially understand the OP's frustration. This is supposed to be the smoothest Android experience and I've personally ran into more bugs in the past month of ownership than in the past 3 years of using Sony and Honor devices. Apps crash almost daily, the fingerprint reader is significantly slower than my Honor 8, and the double tap to wake feature has always required 4 or more taps.
That being said, I've never felt this phone was a bad purchase or unusable. If the OP feels that way, then he or she should simply have Google replace it. It's under warranty and this thread won't solve these issues.

What is the point of your OP? You are obviously not asking for help. It is just a rant with no point other than to trash the device from what it looks like. So I ask again, why are you here and why did you post this?

What is your issue? This section says News & discussion. I wanted to bring these issues to light as I'd like to have these issues fixed so I can use the device without daily bugs.

I agree with the OP. What's the point of having a discussion forum if we can't just discuss things that are on our mind. Even if it is a rant.

I agree most of the point, except the title...

OP has a point. Feel free to criticize him all you want, but the point remains valid. You can see clear evidence in the Google Support Forums. I myself have struggled with BT connections dropping everywhere. The only solution that works for me is clearing BT app data as soon as my connections start to drop every few seconds. Pretty annoying issue for a $650 phone if you ask me.
Yes, I could RMA. But for me right now it isn't worth the hassle. Not all of us live in the US where you can RMA and have a nice new phone by the end of the week. I choose to live with the BT issue for now because I seriously love everything else about the phone. But that doesn't mean that Google hasn't made some mistakes with it.

Because this is not a discussion at all. Every attempt at help has been shot down as not acceptable, even RMA. So I ask again what is the point of this rant other than to trash the device? Got to call a spade a spade and acknowledge you don't really want help.
And yes the title of the OP is well... Not something that attracts sympathy or support. If help was really desired this thread would have a completely different tone.

Now this is a discussion. I've heard about BT issues for years now so I guess it's not quite fixed. It's odd because I have no issues whatsoever as many others. But then there is a group of users like yourself that have problems. What is the answer, RMA? I know it's not worth it to you but is that the answer anyway? Also when did it start happening? After an update or from the get go? It seems the OP has decided that it's software since he won't RMA the device, but is that the case?
When I hear of BT issues I always wonder if it's the other end that causes issues. Like maybe the stack doesn't talk right to the device. I mean a way to check would be to connect to another device or let those of us that have no problems try to connect to a device identical to yours. Nonetheless, take a look at the OP again and tell me he wants help or discussion. I think not, it's just a rant plain and simple. It's almost like he went out to find every possible issue that anyone was ever having with the Pixel 2 and listed it as his own. I've seen so many posts like that by people who are fans of other devices and just either are paid or fans of the company. I'm not saying that's the OP but it just seems odd that he wouldn't return the device if he has all those issues. I wouldn't keep it for 5 minutes no less 5 months.

I have updated the title to better reflect my post.
Also, I tried pretty much every suggested solution I could find to fix the problems I'm having, save for the RMA. I am not convinced it will fix the issues as others confirmed issues remain after receiving new units. I will try one more factory reset after Feb patch is released.

So can we identify any common factors amongst devices that suffer these and devices that don't? Unless it's something simple like "VZW devices with non-VZW SIMs" that might be hard, and there may not be a common factor, it might be random bad luck. But put together the facts that it's clearly only a minority suffer these issues and yet some people report the same with replacement devices, and that suggests the possibility that there might be some factor that correlates with it (don't have the statistics to work out whether that's a warranted possibility of not).
(For the record, I've had none of the problems mentioned, though I only used the Google headphone adapter a few times so can't speak with huge confidence on that one, and am not a big BT user though it has always worked for me when I do use it. Non-carrier phone in the UK, unmodified, January 5th security patch on 8.1.0)

So, you bought a Vibrant... (my $.02, no refunds))

So I ditched WinCE for iOS... and now I have ditched iOS for Android. The Vibrant is my first Android device (and my first foray into a Samsung Mobile device... I am an unabashed HTC Fanboi). What has struck me, after sifting through numerous forums and entertaining a myriad of debates... is the wide of array of problems users have encountered... and their utter surprise (and sometimes outrage). Now, far be it for me to judge any other persons experiences... but I feel that I should remind everyone that most if not all Hi-tech product launches are plagued with some issues (some major, some minor) and that the burden (and duty) of early adopters is to wade through these issues and help mature the community and product. Now if these issues prove to be a hardware failing or unacceptable QC...then carries and manufactures should be held responsible to make things right. However, software issues (which is what I would attribute to most if not all the Vibrants problems to)... are ALWAYS going to be fleshed out with greater acuity and action by a large, well-informed and ambitious user base. We are just better suited and more motivated to do so than Corporate programmers... who are usually on deadlines and have more than one project cooking.
With that said, if you are unhappy with the device... by all means, return it. That is your right as a consumer (and is protected by the 14 day remorse period).
Anyway here are some facts about my user experience... since they seem to have been more favorable than a lot of other peoples:
1. I purchased my Vibrant on launch day, with a ship date of 7/8/2010
2. I did in fact have flaky GPS out of the box (1-3 min initial locks, not always... but enough to be considered an "issue")
3. The compass is for all intents and purposes unusable (however, the fact that it has been identified as an issue between raw and polled/avg data can be overcome with software coding).
4. I did not experience what I consider to be lag (coming from iOS or WinCE... I know lag)... however my App base is still rather small (20 non-stock)
5. I have yet to root my device... but did not have market issues on either 3g or wifi (yet)
6. I did apply GPS fix ( with multiple configs... eg: standalone plus new supl data, hot v cold start, ms based...etc) and did find that it did provide faster locks... but still, would not consider it a true "fix")
With all of that said and all that I read (righteous indignation and all) I almost succumbed to popular sentiment and swapped my device for a new one.
Instead, I went with a factory reset and had the following observations:
1. The device did seem snappier... but this may just be perceived rather than actual.
2. Stock settings on GPS have all of a sudden performed much better. I did not perform fix and I am getting consistent lock under 25 sec, navigation works exceptionally well, and both GPS status and test apps confirm 2-4 sats in use. Now again, this is still sub-par performance and a fix needs to be pushed OTA ASAP.
3. 3G and wifi perform the same (which is flawless... so no complaints)
Ultimately, I think TW 3.0 was not fully baked... and given the hardware on this device, it begs for Froyo (or GB beta ). Given time, some serious empirical testing and enough research... I truly believe all issues are faulty firmware and not a Hardware or QC problem. Now I could be wrong... only time will tell.
But when it is all said and done, I love my vibrant... and Android is the shizzzz.
When I root, I will post any issues that result.
This has been my exact experience with the phone, although I rooted my phone and have not performed a factory reset:
-Still using the GPS 'fix' and get 5-10 sec locks with good accuracy.
-After rooting, every once in a while (one of four times) I have to log into Google Talk before accessing the market.
I did a reset as well and it eliminated a lag I had. This thing flies now. The compass however is not as accurate or as fast as my Nexus one compass. I tried the navigation and it works fine.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Coming from a n1 I make sweet love to my vibrant everynight.. me and my girl have a 3some with it...
I've factory reset and done the GPS "fix" a couple times now, and none of it helps. My GPS locks fairly quick, but it never picks up more that 2 satellites and (in GPS Test) it only connects to the two satellites with the highest SNR. It's also very inaccurate in Google Maps, the indicator jumps around a lot.
I actually have no other problems than GPS issues, so I'm going to exchange it a little later today.

Bravo OP! This is just the nature of things. When android dropped on the G1 the community had a bloody out cry... Low and behold, two years later the phone is still being modded/upgraded. Where the only thing lacking now is the hardware. With time and patience im sure the vibrant will soon be seeing some light in the modding world.

Galaxy S: is it all about hardware issues solved in recent manufacturing?

Edit 30 dec 2010:
see my last post in page 4
GPS suc*s when tested in high roads density urban areas
Hi,
I see many debate here about Galaxy S issues, mainly lag and GPS.
I was scared when got one, but finally, becoming a fan boy too:

1) Test Google search (press and hold option button in home). Press a leter, for eg N. Now you have to wait seconds. Just web, apps are in searchable items. Without web suggestions
2) Swype
3) Manage apps
4) List processes
5) Apps shortcut
6) TouchWiz app drawer
7) Browser (still on JP6 ATM)
And so many issues.

So I tested in my SGS, recently bought (3 weeks):
GPS driving on road behaves like my Sirf III module (but under Navigon, google maps not tested)
Google search is fine (lag less than 1sec)
Swype: really smooth
Manage apps: small lag, max 1 sec or less
Apps shortcut: first time just 1-2 sec, than instant
App drawer is fine, lag is really minimal to abscent, far less than 1 sec when it is there
Browser: no issues
It came with JM7 bundled, never updated firmware as I don't see the need. Bought it in october, just after an out of stock long period
I'm really thinking there are some hardware issues solved recently. My SGS seems to behave like the one from "fanboy"
I'm not going to become a fanboy, just maybe helping with my case. If it is really hardware dependent issues, a mass RMA would help samsung to admit the problems (that they look like have solved in newer devices?). After all, Apple, with their small antenna bug was finally more fair than Samsung.
I really open this topic to give a positive feedback. I also wonder why I have a "perfect" SGS, while many have a bad one? If it is not hardware, what can it be?
Maybe people that get new units, bundled stock with a new firmware (mine was JM7), should give a feedback here.
If it is hardware, why not RMA and put pressure on Samsung

Many people still have release-day SGS's and they work just as good as yours; some people have the problem and some just do not. Was there a hardware update? We don't know and if there was, why would Samsung not announce something and try to put themselves in a terrible position?
We just don't know. I have a release-day SGS myself and the only problem I've had was the button's delaying (which is quite annoying) and "the Black Screen of Death" a few times (which was fixed by not putting on a hard-case from Bell).

Hi. Just a couple of questions for you if you dont mind.
1.) When you say "Black Screen of Death, do you mean the weird Coma/Crash syndrome? Mine from Bell as well just started doing this about 60 days into owning it and it has happened a total of 3 times in the last 5 days or so.
2.) What do you mean it was SOLVED by not putting on a Hard Case from Bell? I have one from Bell (looks like leather on the back) and you now have me wondering. I have had the case almost since day one though and my phone just started the Coma/Crash as mentioned above about 60 days after owning it. Please advise...
3.) A bit off topic but I see you are rooted on JH2. Can you please tell me how you rooted the device? I have tried the update.zip files I have found before but none of them ever work for me. Do you need to be sim unlocked for the root to work? Please advise...
Thank You...

I'll break it down for you; my problem with the BSOD started to happen after I attached my cases I bought from Bell (the semi-clear hard grey case and the fake crocodile skin case). The cases felt VERY snug to my phone, almost 'death-gripped' (which meant the cases were difficult to take off, almost 'ripping-the-backplate-off' difficult) and I could feel heat through the case. After taking them off, I have never had the BSOD since, although my phone feels a bit naked. I had also UNROOTED my phone but the BSOD happened a few days later (with the case on).

This is the post where I got my update.zip:

The steps were guide-lined here:

download the update.zip from this topic (Thanks to jentech)
http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7536130&postcount=11
then you need to run adb devices to make sure your phone is listed
(ADB is part of Android SDK, download it from the source http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html )
if you get something like
Code:
adb.exe devices
List of devices attached
900098c722a9 device
(if you run adb.exe devices and comes back with an empty list, then make sure you have set the phone into debugging mode Application > Settings > Development > USB Debugging)
then you are can execute
adb.exe reboot recovery
this will take you to the recovery screen
now if your device works with the Power + Volume Up + Home button, then you can skip that, however in my case the 3 button mode didn't work
select the update.zip with the volumen up down button, then hit home screen, it should say installing in yellow, then you are done, it reboots back to normal, and now you can install Busy Box

Hope that helps
I got mine also after the "outstock" period.
Got 2, first one had weird issue, rebooted for no reason and, in the end, USb would work and, everytime I pluged it in (PC or recharge) it would reboot in a loop :S
All of this in the first week
Got it exchange and since then, no reboot, no connection issue, no "lag" and GPS is more than decent (I use it to track jogging and it's right on the spot)
Manif. date of this one is 10.09.21 (specific date on the battery, on the device itself it's 10.09, no day)
I do wonder the same thing as you do, might be a good idea to note the manif. date and if user has issue or not...It might give help to some of us with unreliable SGS get it exchanged!
If the manufacturing date gives different hardware, I would definitely send it back again to get a latest one. My replacement didn't solve the GPS issue...will talk to orange uk again tomorrow...
I agree with thread creator. My SGS works fine right at the beginning (except the lag). I see a date on the battery which is 2010.08.03.
I also think it may be hardware-related issues.
Car navigation software such as Navigon accepts an enormous range of errors though. But the errors are exposed when using GPS for fitness purposes (because if the tracks swing wildly side to side then you do the 10km jog in 7km).
I think it might be hardware these days, but waiting for froyo official to see. After that I'll return my phone as many times as necessary
apart from the gps inaccuracy, there's nothing to complain about! the sgs is simply brilliant however, i'd be happy if they put in more ram on the device :|
the gps update frequency is bad, and sometimes is terribly inaccurate
Has anyone tested, one of these phones, with a bluetooth sirf 3 gps?
I would assume, to a certain extent, that it would help prove, if it is a hardware fault or not.
Are there other factors involved, however?
@jonny_ftm just try a Froyo build. I was pretty happy with Eclair in terms of performance (of course some issues where there too, but not that many).. but froyo has some nice additions (eg: input cursor, copy text from browser, flash support, etc) but it sucks in terms of performance. Even the latest builds (JPO, JPA) seems to suck as some realistic people report.
I have ~ 150 apps in app drawer
I will check the date of manufacture of my phone later and report back.
It could be a good idea to start with this to see if there's really a trend to better hardware with later manufacturing dates.
Sadely, it is not that simple. If in mobile phone industry it works just like in PC electronics, even manufacture date of phone won't help. I explain: intel chipsets on motherboards were often "buggy" in some extent on first production. Later, they enhance the product and produce new build versions of chipset correcting hardware issues. Now, it's upon to motherboard manufacture to use the last chipset build or not. Most time, motherboard manufacture will use old chipset stocks before moving to new one.
So, if we want to know this for sure, only SN and build dates on chipsets inside the phone will be the ultimate proof. Sadely, unlike in PC world, less people open their phones to check components unless they break the screen...
Anyhow, phone manufacturing date can help as early dates would have necessarly early components. Later built phones could or not have the last chipset though.

- I won't try Froyo. Until it is final, we can't say Samsung s**ks, it is just beta testing. My phone works great with original JM7 it came with, I don't need Beta Froyo features if they make the phone unusable. Now, I understand people that need these features getting frustrated. Hopefully, it is not my case, so can't help here
- I only have around 30 applications, I think I won't have more than 50-60 include stock apps. Even a PC with quadcore CPU, 16 Gigs of extreme fast RAM, RAID setup and tons of applications/processes installed will slow down. I don't expect a tiny smartphone to do a better job there. The only OS that was rock stable despite tons of applications is Palm OS, now dead :-(
Mine had 16 6 10 on the battery and I experience the gps issue.

I tried using my external holux bt gps (which really kicks ass)....but to my surprise i figured android doesn't support external bt gps devices natively! so, google maps or navigation does not bother picking up gps info from the external device. android still has no support....bottom line so we're pretty much stuck with what our sgs can do! sucks i know!
Actually, from what I was led to beleive from the test in the accesories, BT GPS seems to work with everything:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818688&highlight=GPS
See post #10
nope....even in post#10 he mentions that "in theory"! it just wouldnt work and i did a serious amount of research only to realize android doesnt support external bt based gps devices. however, i havent tried in froyo....will do it tomorrow and post if i have any luck!
All working fine here - manufacturing date 25/08/2010
Very interesting, the date manufacture theory I stated seems not that wrong from the few feedback in this thread. If we have more feedback, it will become evident, for those doubting it, that Samsung is just making fun of his customers. They don't intend to admit any defect and won't recall phones unless forced by a massive customers action.
I'm happy I got mine only in October. When I receive my microSD card, I'll open it and add my contribution with manufacturing date for my working out of the box phone.
All this means it is very bad news for people with very laggy, battery consuming and bad GPS phones

List of problems with Galaxy S II

Hi peeps, my first post here on XDA nice to meet all of you.
Ill try to list of the problems I found so far in the galaxy S II
p.s. some problems are related to android software itself:
anti-aliased small text, HTC phones do not have this problem
horrendous battery usage after updating to KE7, android OS taking more than 40%
android stock browser does not render original website fonts
touch screen is less sensitive than other phones e.g. iphone
the lock screen is just not practical when it comes to unlocking, you have to move it quite far to unlock when set to picture only
when waking the phone using home button, it briefly shows the background app, this doesn't happen when waking from power button, trust me this is annoying
More issues:
Wifi signal bar shows weak signal, but infact the signal itself is strong, as confirmed with a speed test
cannot disable battery full warning sound
hopefully these will be fixed, ill try to think of some more and add them.
Thanks for the list.
It's sad to have such a spectacular phone have issues like these... I'm pretty sure all will be fixed with updates and custom ROMS from some amazing Devs on here...but still.
Hopefully sooner than later!
Do keep us updated
Hey.
I must disagree with you on some points.
- the battery usage is not that catastrophical. I had an SGS before and I must say that, contrary to my expectations (bigger screen, more features, improved hardware), the battery is holding up nicely.
- touch screen is great. a friend of mine has an iphone 4 and we did a lot of comparing. I did not encounter any issues when scrolling or whatsoever. On the contrary, I see a big leap between these two devices when it comes to tactile control.
- I didn't notice any issues with the lock screen. The same lock screen was on SGS (well.. aproximately). Still... this is the point of a lock screen - to swipe it as much as possible in order to prevent unlocking it accidentally. You will get used to it really fast.
- regarding the background app -> it didn't happen to me but based on my previous experience with Android OS I am not going to deny that this isn't possible.
By the way are you experiencing all these bugs with KE2 or you already upgraded to KE7?

another negative thread. sigh.
btw
Sliding the wallpaper horizontally is almost the exact same distance as you would slide the default android unlock screen...
the battery is certainly very good, until i updated to KE7, now android OS eating up 50%.
the touchscreen certainly feels different, however the problem is also related to the fact that the iphone knows your finger actually touches the link e.g. on a webpage by a roughly a millimeter below it, because of the way you hold it , it is slightly at an angle. i guess that's something i need to get used to, as i just switched to android from ios.

My battery's actually improved on KE7. Did you update on top of KE2 or did you wipe the phone and hard reset after the update? I did the latter. My phone's been up nearly seven hours with moderate use and still has 65% battery left. And I appreciate you sharing your individual feelings toward the phone. But, based on some of the posts I've read on this forum, I don't think there was, is, or will be a phone that meets all of the stated expectations.

Agree with that. Battery Level - 22%, Uptime: 26hrs 7 mins. Moderate use (switching from WiFi to 3G, playing some games, browsing the internet and market to download some stuff, cumulative talk ~ 45 mins, texted some messages).
I really cannot complain about the battery at all.
The only bad thing that happened to me since I bought this phone is that I cannot take my hands off it so the people around me get pissed for no reason Either way.. one of my best investments ever.
I think the inability to get mine delivered is a problem. Can't wait to get my paws on it. FWIW, IMHO, my post was as useful as this thread

You'd rather have a forum filled with threads titled "All is well" or "This phone works" while the problems are censored?
Anyway, I havent noticed many of those issues in the OP. Most, if not all, are hardware related - unfortunetly.
My major issues:
- The phone can run very hot
- Poor color depth (banding)
My minor issues:
- Placing a speaker on the back of a phone is as logical as placing a speaker inside the HDD rack of your computer expecting it to sound good when you're looking at the case
- Slow loading of battery. My 3Gs is miles better there
- Slight tinting on screen left to right. Not bad, but I can spot it if I look for it
What I do not see that others posted here:
- Laggy touchscreen. My 3Gs behave exactly the same, that slow pull and then it skips. So I'm used to that.
- Poor battery life. With the phone being able to warm my entire head after a long session, sucking battery amps is logical. Its not really that bad, after 24h of using the phone - not heavy, but still - its at 50%. My 3Gs (charged at the same time) is at 75% and I havent done anything with it. At the very least, its eqvivalent.
- Havent noticed the flashing background app issue. I mean come on, who the f*** turn on the screen with the awkward power button now a days? I love Samsung for blatantly ripping off iPhone, lol. When I entered a store before the S2 was even in my mind, I looked at an Optimus 2X and my first question was "Does it turn on the screen with any of these buttons at the bottom, rather than having to twist my finger to the itty bitty power button at the top?". "No I dont think so" said the store guy. I walked out.
let I also add one problem
BT connection in the car (at least AUDI) having constant problem - it drops connection (and then you have to reconnect manually) and even crashing phone down if it tries to connectn during conversation. Same problem (exept crush) was for previous SGS and very sad that Samsung didn't changed it. On SGS the only way to cope with it was to swith to custom ROM - it also strange - custom ROM's apart of stock didn't have that problems.
I must say, after having this unit for about a week, I have only one concern..
The WiFi-signal is a bit poor.. I really hope this is a software-problem, as both my SGS and my Desire HD had a better reception.
And I've read a few post stating that the reception is actually good, it just doesn't show it right. But my SGSII loses connection totally when I'm in my kitchen, something neither my SGS og DHD did.. Poor
Other than that, I couldn't be happier with my snappy, glossy new smartphone, beasting away all others when they want to compare awesome power in handsets!

I'm going to wager that you're not using the charger that came with the phone or using a random USB cable?
As I've read on here before and have noticed, if you don't use the official Samsung cables then your phone can run hot when you're charging and using apps. The phone also charges better with the official cables.
I read this when reading up on car chargers. As such I made sure that I purchased the official Samsung car dock and not some knock-off.

BT is working without any hiccups in my car (Ford).

I need to know the "serious" issues

im still debating this tablet, but i want reeeeallly bad. so heres my background, i get easily frustrated when something doesn't work the way it should, im on my 3rd Samsung Infuse with in a month... but anyways, i was browsing the all 135 some pages and i see people having well, a lot of issues, chargers, screens, speakers (pop... whatever that is, seems to be known around the threads.) i read about people sending them in for repair. so i need to know what are the serious issues with this tablet. issues that everyone has recognized as a known issue,
This mostly happens most with 1st/2nd/3rd/4rd batch/shipment. I think new batch with the serial no# b5xxxxxxx or higher doesn't have noticeable issues.
B5 still have issues, but keep in mind that this is still a minority of people. The majority are enjoying a near perfect experience hardware-wise. A very common issue is light bleed, though in most instances this is very minimal. Mine had, unfortunately, the major issue of having an unresponsive area on the screen, which is why I RMA'd it.
I'd still choose this tablet any day if I had to start over again. Hell, even with the defective touchscreen it was still an awesome tablet Can't beat this screen right now, and the dock is great!

I just got my Tf a few weeks ago (and hey, it is a B5) and the worst problem i've had is there aren't enough hours in the day to enjoy it. Nothing like firing up GOF2 THD for a little while then reading same Douglas Adams. Oh, and then watching Hulu. I do that whenever stuff whenever i see an ipad user.

Yes. The TF has reported problems. Nothing is perfect much less new products. I count myself fortunate that my TF works pretty well. From what I have read android itself can be frustrating especially when one tinkers with it but then that is part of the enjoyment of android. Learning. Reading your post my first thought would be to suggest you wait. The TF, as most android products, can be frustrating but also keep in mind that you're not reading about the majority of TF users who either haven't had problems or have dealt with them.
Even a new Porsche can have problems!
im okay with the light bleed. and i know about the speakers not being even. but whats this speaker pop thing about?
I don't have any problems, I can tell you that mine is perfect. I don't care if you believe it or not

I can answer that question,
there are 2 kinds of popping sound from the speaker discussed in this forum,
the first one is with rooted user using overclock kernels.
occasionally the speaker would make a "pop" sound (when you get notifications)
but that does not happen to unrooted users, and in fact, the lastest kernel seems to get rid of that question already.
another popping sound issue if reported from people streaming music from the "google Music" app.
sometimes after a certain amount of time listening to music using the app, the speaker, actually the headphones, speaker doesn't have such issue, start to produce some kind of "impurity", a constant popping sound.
But the issue can be easily solved by unplugging the headphone and replugging it. I've tried jumping straight to Youtube app when I start hearing the popping sound, and it's not there in the youtube app. So i suspect its more of an software issue. Asus is already looking into it the last time I checked.
What about the dock issues?

My dock has zero issues. It charges, it registers the keys, mouse works great with USB ports, haven't tried the sd card. And the touchpad is amazing.

I promise you that 99% of the people complaining are just being the biological trolls that they were born as.
The TF is a great device and IT WILL do everything it was intended to do pretty damn well. The dock definitely takes some getting used to, especially if your not used to mini netbook type keyboard.
But it is really responsive and adds legitimate battery life and functionality to the device.
The few bugs that the TF does have are very minor and will be sorted out with time just like ever god damn piece of hardware in the world...For some reason people don't know how to do anything but complain on these forums. Don't be swayed by them, chances are they are very incompetent in real life and look to the internet to hear out there pathetic pleas for attention
I beg to differ @ previous poster. There are legitimate QC issues here. I've gotten 4 different units sent to me in the last two week and each had issues. The latest has a whole section of the x axis (in landscape) about a finger width wide unresponsive to touch all the way across the screen. Bull**** in my opinion. Also look at the beautiful RMA threads here. Really making me contemplate my decision. I love the device and its capabilities, but am discouraged by these shortcomings of the manufacturer.

This is hands down the best thing I have purchased in the last several years, I have to make myself put it down. Having said that, if you are picky then no tablet (android or other) will be good for you. Honeycomb is far from complete or polished and there are problems if you look for them. In my opinion non of them overshadow the experience.
My other devices are collecting dust.

Yes it does qualify. This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041502, is a stickied thread and has a complete ordered list of noted issues with detailed information about the issues. Oh and its up to date since the dates for changes are noted right there and all.
I linked this thread here: http://www.facebook.com/ASUS/posts/209779482398791
I don’t have the dock, so cant comment on that. Instead I’ll comment on the tablet alone. I have the 16GB model with Honeycomb 3.1 (stock no mods, not rooted yet), had it for 6 days, so these are more like my first impressions:
Pros :
Beautiful screen (very little light leak on mine so I’m quite happy. But has one dead pixel though, but not noticeable)
Good battery life (I can easily go beyond 8hrs with moderate use)
Everything (I have tried so far) except web browsing works as it should
Cons:
Web browsing is very disappointing to say the least. The stock browser crashes and lags to the point of being unusable.
Flash video performance in the browser is poor, HD videos breaks up and low res videos are blocky when viewed fullscreen, deblocking filters don’t work properly or not at all.
Video Playback isn't the best But Theirs Work Around (HandBreak and Different Video Players)
Flash in my opinions is fine but It can be improved
Music is awesome especially with Volume+ App
Games are Very Good. I play Spectral Souls and Galaxy on Fire 2
Screen Is Beautiful (Some Light bleed but all IPS have this problem yes even Ipads)
Overall Performance is Good (A Little Laggy with Widgets but ADW EX can fix this)
Browser is my Main Gripe. It Looks amazing and Loads Fine but Theirs Typing Browser lag and it Kills the Experience. Its not a Hardware Problem its Software. Its eather Honeycomb or Asus Custom UI. Idk which but it should be fixed :x
All in All its an Amazing Device and if The Browser Typing Lag gets Fixed, Then this thing would be BEAST. Theirs a Rumored Android 3.2 that fixes alot of HC Issues coming out in the next few weeks so thats Might be what everyone is wishing for. until then we gotta wait on Asus/Google.
Edit: I Should Mention thats Their is ONLY typing Lag in Browser and Not Writing Documents/Apps. Strange..

Tell Samsung to Help Us NOW !

To all in this forum. So many have had complaints about so many things to put that statement in perspective Here is a brief list:
Graying pixels (triangles)
Black not true
Color wash out
Color Rendering issues
Emmc Bug
S-Pen Issues
Tablet Mode jacked
Battery Drain Issues
These are the common ones, but you get the idea. What we as moderators really Hate is ALL THE COMPLAINING you throw at the following people......ChainFire, SuperCurio, Flappjaxx, Dagr8, M3dd0g, Sixstringsg, Dr Ketan, NeoBuddy, CM Team, AokpTeam, Gerret, xplodwild, Eybee1970....any all the others I cannot think of right now...(let me know who I missed and Ill add)
The majority of these issues are SAMSUNG hardware issues, a few are not. Stop Telling the Devs about these issues TELL SAMSUNG.......complain to them...and here's how...
The Idea:
I am going to try this and hopefully get everyone's support and contributions. What I am proposing is to post the Samsung issues here in a post and a brief description of what it is and what it is not doing.
Then, I will merge the real Samsung related issues into the 1st and 2nd post so they are itemized clearly. After a few days....
THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART.... I then want all of you in this forum to Tweet the link to this thread to @Samsungmobile..... stating fix these issues Now, or we look to buy something else than Samsung.....
This works, my friend S15274N started #neveragain Samsung when they did not provide timely updates (2.1 to 2.2)... we got their ear. Samsung does not bad press on this Unit especially because they are going to release TMO version on 7-11-12....... So let's kick'em now and get some of their engineers to help us instead of beating on our dev's.
To Recap:
1. Post what you believe to be Samsung hardware/software issues
2. We will merge these into a cohesive/concise list
3. We barrage them with complaint tweets with the link to this thread.
Here is the link to this Thread:

Let's do this it's worth a try and we can direct our frustration towards the correct culprits Samsung.
Thanks, Oka1
The List
Known Bugs/Problems
1. Emmc Bug
2. Color Rendering issues
..........A-Banding in Video recording/playback
..........B-Black clipping in videos
..........C-
3. Post Source code for ICS when you release ICS.
4. Provide a "Known and Resolved" bug list that you are presently aware of
5. Battery overheating
6. Hang and FC on Low DPI settings
7. MMS would not send/receive if Data Packet is not enabled. Previously in GB (Galaxy Note only) it was able to do so. I really hope that Samsung fix this issue for all its Android phones.
8. Samsung changed between GB and ICS raised kernel resume time from 650ms to 1000ms - just for the kernel to resume
Desired List:
1. Touch screen adjustment
2. Improve camera software too much banding in lowlight
for now, emmc bug must be the TOP PRIORITY..
all the other issues won't make your phone unusable and cost you motherboard replacement..
+1
Awesome a n7000 user union.
UNITE!
Missing traceability with partial wakelocks and what's really draining your battery. Statistics in native app are tainted/incomplete plus offer no real value in analyzing. Its like a Dilbert comic dashboard, useless.
Varying screen quality, maybe due to drivers : the banding issues with movies
Slow update speed. Samsung kept delaying ICS
ICS not as intended implemented, slow, battery inefficient and has lags.
No low dpi support on native launchers
Low Volume issues on speaker and ringer
Missing exchange contact search functionality
Missing control for apps permissions, like pdroid and lbe
Missing firewall
Missing touchscreen sensitivity setting
Crap update policy. Just make one good rom and not 50+ crap ones per region, per carrier. This will increase update speed, quality too
Missing wipe dalvik cache option

The whole idea of choosing Android (in particular Galaxy Series) over iPhone was the ability and ease of flashing firmwares and exploring new horizons. However the EMMC bug is limiting this very activity. Moreover we paid for the premium devices such as Note and millions of these have be sold all over. The EMMC fix should certainly be on TOP most priority. Hope Samsung will be considerate enough to consider this request. Else we all will be forced to re-evaluate our faith in SAMSUNG.
PS:
It hurts to know that google was aware of EMMC issues since 2008 and still SAMSUNG planned to go ahead with faulty chip. Surely Samsung does owe an explanation in-case they fail to find a fix in time!!!
I am in...the Hard brick bug is my priority for now....
LET'S MAKE SOME NOISE...
send this thread to samsung
we have to do something now, enough is enough.
1. Color Rendering, black greying out, black clippings..its been months and nothing done about it.
2. Battery Drain for what?!
It was marketed for its screen and HD experience..and the users are not experiencing that because of the above crap!
3. AND Yeah!! Do us a favor and release updates that are the same and that do not literally vary from one another! QUALITY CHECK!!!
YOU HEAR US SAMSUNG!!!
black clipping issue should be related to the firmware, samsung should release a hotfix for it asap.

Please add to your list the Deep Sleep Problem.
My Note breaks deep sleep pretty much at will. That MUST get fixed.
Thank you for your initiative. It empowers all of us.
The biggest issue I have right now with the phone is the EMMC bug. This needs fixing ASAP.
The was my first Samsung and at the rate Samsung are going, then it's going to be my last !
Black clipping in videos is the biggest issue for me, having to use a app to adjust the contrast thus losing true blacks is not good.
I also believe there is an issue with how flash player works in stock ICS ROMs, Very jerky performance in browser, I don't think it is 100% Adobes fault as I have friends with other devices (Eg HTC Sensation) running ICS 4.0.3 stock ROMs and their playback is silky smooth.

Hallelujah. The best thread I've seen yet and here is my list:
Post ICS upgrade
1. Phone would randomly re-boot.
2. phone would lock up and not respond. Battery removal necessary to re-boot.#
3. eMMc Identified as being faulty.
4. Video recording would stutter at the beginning of each clip.
5. Video playback would frequently fail.
6. Pink Dot on Camera. YES IT IS A BLOODY FAULT. AND YES I DO KNOW HOW TO OPERATE A CAMERA.
7. Google Maps with Navigation would hang and screen would freeze and flicker.
8. Other Apps from Google Play store, certified as compatible with the GSN would hang, freeze, or otherwise cause re-boot.
9. Phone would sometimes get hot, very hot.
10. degraded sound quality, both recorded and playback.
I called Samsung and was not in the slightest bit re-assured by what the agent told me. They sent a plastic pouch with a tiny square of bubble wrap to send it to a service centre. That is not my idea of suitable packaging to protect MY device, and no, I'm not going to patch up their own shoddy performance with my own materials. I have sent my Galaxy Note back to the retailer for a full refund as it is now no longer fit for the purpose.
I would recommend anyone that has a defective device, is to follow the instruction manual to the letter. Make sure your apps are compliant fro the Goggle Play store. If after that, it is still defective, send it back to the point of sale for a full refund, do not accept a replacement, do not accept anything other than your money back. I know this is a PITA BUT, unless Samsung get hurt in the pocket and some truthfulness in the headlines in the press and on the Internet, nothing will get done. Yes I know living without a phone can be a pain, but we ca all live without the 'Note for a while. Do what I have done, get a crappy clam phone from Tesco for a tenner, it gets me by.
You might ask why I'm so militant, well its for two reasons. 1. It's in my genes. 2. I paid top dollar for a flagship product that is not fit for the purpose.
As the OP said, don't hit the Devs. They didn't write the crappy code that doesn't work, they don't work for Samsung either. They didn't instigate the crappy quality control that seems apparent in Samsungs factories, and that of their suppliers. What they do is write apps for you and me, they write code to 'try' and give you an alternative android experience, they try to fix what Samsung should be fixing. They do this all for free. I like free, and I like the Devs. Samsung should stop paying its own coders, and give all that money to xda developers. Maybe then we would have a quality product.
Things you can do to help. Appart from sending your device back to your retailer for your money back (some cant do this I know, but those that can, do it). Tweet epic fail on twitter, do the same on face book and every other social networking site you have. make sure its addressed and or seen by Samsung. It will hurt, particularly when google starts to pick it up in the search engine.

Not really. Its all down to quality control, programming and who made the device components. You will see lots of satisfied guys with fully functioning devices, BUT, there are an awful lot like me in the same boat. BTW I don't root or use anything not served up by Samsung, that way I protect my warranty and leaves no room for manoeuvre for the retailer or Samsung.
Top of my list is:
1 Black clipping in videos
Its just NOT acceptable that a phone in this price range and with this specs. cannot play (random) video without this terrible artifacts.
It doesnt deliver what is promised. (in the commercials )
Even my 3 jear old HTC plays video a lot better.
If its not fixed in the near future i think i will go for a refund because i really feel cheated by samsung because of this problem and their way of (not) supporting it.
2 EMMC bug.
3 the overall way that samsung deals with this bugs and the people/customers who report them.
Please step up samsung!
i can wait for a stable ics.
BUT BLACK CLIPPING come on samsung... please fix it...its damn ugly...people look at this phone as if its some heavenly artifact..thank God i dont let em watch dark videos, they will just scoff at me saying ' 30,000 bucks for this?'..i'm sorta asking myself that question now...it's advertised as if it has the best screen on the market and yet it shows greys so badly and pictures taken in the dark are so ugly with purple blotches..premium smartphone? dont think so!!
Priority by number:
1- eMMC bug, known for a long time and can be solutioned if samsung wants to....
2- Black clipping, can get rid of it by not seeing vids or black images.......
3- Battery drain, it's impossible to have to walk with a charger in our pockets with average use. If you use data transfer all day you can't use it for a day (10H)
4- Updates from samsung are a joke, touchwizz may be a great launcher but not with ICS. Tanks for those who developed others..
5- Total lack of interest by samsung: 7 million sold with about 70% of those with a high possibilty to be returned and get a new MB?? That's a risk !!!!! No solution, no excuse, no explanation, nothing from samsung.......
Oh well i really like my note, bought it for a reason and it does what i want but there are too many bugs/problems with it to be a fully functional device. What does samsung about it??? Release SGSIII.......... yeah right nice solution.
Had a samsung before and gave me a lot of problems, i know i shouldn't have gone back but..........let's try to solve this.
becosemsaida
add Entropy to the list of people who gets a lot of complains from users..
anyway, i suggest that the emmc or wiping bug should be put as the top priority so that when samsung or anyone from their team visits the thread, the first thing they will notice is the said bug... a bold/red text maybe? and put some sticky magic to this thread?
i don't know if its just me but i only care about the bug that kills our devices.. i can live with the other issues...
im going to tweet this thread everyday.... hoping for fast actions from samsung... its the first time i got so disappointed with sammy..
here is a shortened url for tweeting http://goo.gl/I3q7q
