How tell which year of Moto X Play I have - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello xda forums,
Before I start I apoligize if this has been answered somewhere I have spent it is far to late at night at time of writing for me to find anything.
Since I just upgraded to a new Moto Z2 I am looking to root my old phone so I can play around with a rooted phone without bricking the one I use. I have got ADB running to backup any files I want in case of bricking, but I don't know which TWRP file to use as they have multiple listings for the Moto X and I do not know which one I have. If anyone knows if there is a place in settings, or in fastboot mode where I can find this information it would help a lot. As well if there is another custom recovery that I could flash that is known to support all the Moto X models I would like to know.
Thanks

Xperia Play question here and I am in need of a few answers

Hi there so I am not new to rooting and flashing roms but not an expert either. I have a Xperia play I got from Verizon(yes horrid verizon) few problems as I can see I cant unlock bootloader, I assume this because in configurations settings there is no root option or even a bootloader unlock yes or no so from what iveread im screwed in that area.
My other problem is and htis is now on 3 phones of xperia play verizon has sent me they all have version of android 2.3.2 and when i try to do the manual update I get this mssg and I have bene trying this on all the ones they sent me and even contacted them with sony on the line and they cant understand why(morons). only solution is to send to them but perhaps someone here can help me. Here is the mssg. it tells me there was an error downloading hte software and it please try again later it has said this for weeks since ive had it everytime i try even after doing a hardreset and this is on all 3 xperia plays they have sent me so it must be something they have done.
Can I still manual update it at least to 2.3.4 using the method from sony and discussed on here using a flashtool x10 but im not sur what version of flash to use since they show like 3 main ones for different types and if so if im using windows what version of flashtool for my xperia play from verizon would i get for my xperia play r800x?
Any ideas and help would be great thanks agian.
You can use the latest one.
Hi talrune,
I'll try to answer some of the questions you posted, but I may be wrong on some things. (If anyone can see anything wrong please feel free to correct me) As far as rooting the device it can be done. It has been awhile since I rooted mine and I cannot remember how I did it. I'm sure a quick google search will pull it up. As far as the bootloader, you can unlock it but you have to pay to have it unlocked. Alejandrissimo was offering this service a while back and I assume he still is. If you would like to get your bootloader unlocked you will have to get in touch with him.
I do not know why you would be having trouble with upgrading to 2.3.4 from Verizon OTA. I am pretty sure however that you cannot use flashtool to install the update without having an unlocked bootloader. Also, the directions from sony are no good. Unless they have changed things they want you to use PC companion or something to download and install the update. This works fine, however, when they ask you to connect the phone they require they phone be connected in MTP mode (I believe) and there is no way to put the R800x into this mode. I called sony and they asked me to go into the system menu and go to the Sony Erriccson tab, but this tab does not exist on the verizon phones (dang verizon!!!)
If you have the money I would strongly suggest getting the bootloader unlocked. It is extremely helpful when Verizon fails in epic fashion. Plus its fun to play around with different roms and kernels. Goodluck
with a locked-bootloader flashtool should work, but fastboot should not.
there a firmware stickied in the Development forum for the VZW R800x

Question: Non-root ways to do a nandroid backup?

Hi Everyone
I used to be a frequent XDA user back when I had a Motorola X2, and I rooted and flashed things to that until I broke it pretty much haha. I had an iphone for the last two years, but now I'm considering getting a Samsung S6 Edge.
I do have a question though. I want to stay unrooted (to use Android Pay and Samsung Pay) but I also miss the complete backup that my X2 used to do with a custom recovery. Can I unlock the bootloader (without root) to install a custom recovery, which wont mess with the system partition and allow me to use android pay? Or is there a better, complete backup solution for an unrooted S6 Edge ?
And I'm a software engineer, so don't worry about being too technical I'm very comfortable in the command console LOL.
I found conflicting info online about how to do this, so I thought I'd go straight to the source of all things new and cool for android: XDA !! Thanks in advance for the information.
Hmm I see I accidently posted this in the Edge + forum, my apologies. It's been a while since I came here, even the format has changed. Mods, please feel free to delete this thread.

Need a Developer to Assist in Upgrade of Note 4 Developer Edition

I am looking for a Developer or someone else who is very experienced to help me upgrade my Note 4 Developer Edition to the latest version and possibly to a ROM. It's currently rooted, bootloader is unlocked, and on BOG5. All the threads out there that say safe Retal/Dev upgrade are confusing to me. I tried one in the past and it locked my bootloader and had to send it back to Sammy. I don't want that to happen again.
What little experience I have with rooting and changing ROMs are with my old Galaxy Nexus, which had way easier methods than this phone, in my opinion. I also, don't want to have to use King Root or Kingo Root because I don't want my IMEI stolen. All I need is for someone who knows what they are doing to tell me exactly what to do for my phone and its setup, help debug if I have issues, and be somewhat easily accessible by email or chat if I have questions.
I'm not a total noob at this stuff. I can't say i completely understood what I did on my old Nexus but it worked. I bricked it a few times but was able to fix it by reading forums. The margin of error for the Note 4 Dev Ed just seems to be much narrower since I am trying to avoid the shady rooting tools.
If you are interested, shoot me a private message with how much you would charge for this, briefly describe your experience level, and when you can be available to help so we can coordinate.
Thanks

LTE Disappears on Reboot - Amazon Moto G4 - Verizon

Hey all,
First time posting, but have been rooting all my android phones using different guides on xda. This one, however, I am having issues with. I have a Moto G4, Amazon subsidized phone, running on Verizon. Whenever I install a custom rom LTE works until I reboot. Once I reboot, it shows 3G regardless of where I am and runs at those reduced speeds.
I have tried Ressurection, Lineage, CM and AOKP. I have two of these phones and on one I upgraded to N firmware and still had the issue. On the one I am using, I am flashing over the stock firmware and all works great until that first reboot regardless of what it is for.
Even if I revert back to a backup made in TWRP, it does not recognize LTE so it makes me think some type of setting is swapping over but I cannot figure out what it is.
Any ideas would be great. I can provide any other information needed, as this is my first time making a post so was unsure what to include. Also, I apologize if this is answered somewhere as my search-fu was failing me.
Thank you!
EDIT: If I restore back to stock firmware using fastboot and lock the bootloader, LTE returns.
I experience the same exact issue with my g4 running on sprint. i do not have the amazon variant. i purchased mine from best buy. i made a post about this a few weeks ago but it never was answered.

Motorola Droid Turbo 2

Hi Guys,
Please tell me how can I root my mobile Motorola Droid Turbo 2 xt 1585 7.0 nougat...
, I have many application to try this phone but not yet to root help me if possible to root this mobile thanks everybody
Hey, With the physically identical 1580 you go to motorola website, fill out a form saying you don't want your warranty and they send you the code - put the code in and wallah. From there you can flash a firmware from any Kinzie phone. With the 1585 version, Verizon have locked it down and won't give the codes out. There is a thread somewhere on here that was started a few years ago with people trying to work out how to get root via an exploit. The last few posts I saw people were getting tired of no results an moving onto other devices which could be more easily rooted / more reliable / newer.
Good luck on your adventure. Great phones while they work.
Thanks for the suggestions and support...
