You can flash any country firmware (not USA as fingerprint scan disabled) as long as it is version 41.3.A.2.24
I have used Hong Kong, Thailand and Vietnamese ftf in the past

you cannot backup drm keys of xzs. because that tool only works upto android 6.0. unfortunately our device starts with 7.0 so you will lose drm key in the process of unlocking. but you can get some of the functions back using drm fix but it will not bring back widewine and some other features
you can relock using flashtool but it will not bring drm keys back and also lose drm fix in the process. so only root if you are absolute sure you want root access
i regret rooting my device sometimes. now i have to manually flash new updates. and everytime i need a patched kernal for drm functions and so on.

After root

You will only get the OTA updates if you are on stock ROM.
You can always replace a custom ROM with stock (and don't root that stock ROM) then you'll receive the OTA

you will get the notification when update is available but you wont be able to do that because when you complete download and press update phone will restart but your bootloader wont allow flashing update so you may need to manually install updates its not a hard thing in XZs anyway

[DEV][Thinktank]Root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2? (Android 4.4.4)

Today, the long-awaited update Android 4.4.4 for Sony Xperia™ Z2 is released.
Rejoice!
But, installing this update will overrun the root access. Root access will be gone. So, how to root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2?
I'm gonna try the same old "Easy Root Tool" and see what happens. Any ideas would be good!
-EDIT-
Do you want to update your Sony Xperia™ Z2 to 4.4.4 but don't want to lose root? Don't worry, you won't! Click "here"
Credits to @niaboc79
Also, thanks to @funky0308 and @Envious_Data for their work
-EDIT 2-
I got root on 4.4.4 on my own, using this guide, credits @norti
@niaboc79 's pre-rooted ROM was based on Generic RU and the NC feature wasn't working on it. So I wanted to download a brand new FTF with my customization number and followed the steps on the guide.
ZBAM!
Got my own .167 (4.4.4) ROM (Generic DE) with root on my Sony Xperia™ Z2.
we will find a way...
but you should definitely put question mark in title...
we are lucky to have older fw (I'm talking for LB, z3 can't be downgrade and they will have problems to root 4.4.4. I believe we could use older fw to root fw and to upgrade keeping root...
I'll upgrade later today and will try few things...
In the title a statement and not a question !! WTF
I thought u achieved root, wtf

I doubt...
Sony patched all those security holes and all those methods should be updated.
Of course, someone should try...
Can anyone confirm he upgraded D6503 to 4.4.4?
Wouldn't downloading the update through PC companion and making an ftf/downloading an ftf and then pre-rooting the firmware work? We have recovery for the phone so a pre-rooted flashable firmware should work without working exploits right?

Mod edit
As a few members noticed, the thread title was a little misleading, as it seemed like there already was a way to root the new firmware.
I changed the thread title to one that shouldn't mislead people.

4.4.4 for D6503 isn't out yet.
Don't bother to download that, it'll say it's 167 but you'll download 314 and flashing will stop immediately after downloading fw.

I didn't actually read any of the other replies to the thread. Mainly cause the main post was all about how could we root it.
It is possible to install the lockeddualrecovery from NUT? If yes we can use it for root

i guess this will be the option for now. Root .314 firmware, backup TA then flash 4.4.4 ftf. Plug the device to flashtool and unlock the BL, install Doomkernel (for recovery), flash supersu.zip, plug phone again to flashtool reflash stock kernel, boot the phone and it should be rooted then restore TA Backup.

It is possible to install it on a rooted firmware, you wouldn't be able to install it on the new firmware without root.

You wouldn't even need to do that.
1) Root .314 firmware.
2) Install locked bootloader recovery.
3) Make a pre-rooted firmware of the 4.4.4 build.
4) Install the firmware through recovery.

Is it for the D6502 or D6503? If I was able to update my D6503 to 4.4.4 I would have done it but I have been plagued with the same problem as all the other D6503 owners. I'm just going to wait for a UK unbranded pre-rooted firmware (or a UK unbranded ftf, whatever comes first).

Yeah, check out this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
In short, what you will have to do:
1. Go back to kitkat.
2. Root and install recovery.
3. Create a flashable zip with prfcreator (tutorial in the link).
4. Paste the flashable zip to your sd card and flash it via recovery.
The process is not so hard, just follow the instructions. If you want, I can make you a flashable zip and post a download link, but I won't be able to to it before tonight when I get home :/
Ok, thanks
This seems rather complicated. I also have a xperia zr, on that i just flashed the recovery via flashtool and then flashed the superSu zip via recovery, that gave me root.
Isn't there any other simpler way for xperia z2.

You may try this: http://techjeep.com/2015/04/04/how-...xperia-z2-running-lollipop-locked-bootloader/
Im not sure if it's going to work, I have not tried it yet.
I have also heard of another way with an app called Kingroot or something, but rumor has it that this method sends your IMEI to a company in China or Japan or something.
The safest way is to downgrade to KitKat, root + install recovery and then upgrade to rooted lollipop from recovery. (Tutorial in my last post and again, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155)
Hmm....ok.
Looks like i need to do some read and try the previous method. It seems safe for the device.
I used to run CM12 though, can i flash the zip from that itself or is it necessary i go back to kit-kat.

The zip file has to be flashed from recovery. If you have recovery at the moment, you can flash the zip. If you are running CM12 at your device now, you do have recovery, so just do a backup of your data, flash the zip file created with prfcreator and wipe cache/dalvik.
If you don't have recovery, you have to downgrade to Kitkat in order to install recovery.

---------- Post added at 07:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:52 PM ----------
What's important is step number 6 in the tutorial: "6. Uncheck all the Include options [ ], we don't need them, we will flash them with Flashtool after the update. I think it's still safer to flash kernel, baseband, boot and other system critical parts of the firmware from Flashtool.
(But if you want to include them anyway then you can skip part 11 and start your phone normally.)"
If you are at CM12, and choose to NOT include the options he is talking about in step 6, you HAVE to do step 11 aswell.
If you choose to include them, then you skip step 11 and reboot phone normally

I just went through this ordeal. There is a lollipop version of dual recovery here . You need to flash the flashable version of it through recovery and it will give you write access. You are probably using a Kit Kat version of dual recovery that doesn't disable lollipop simlock.

Not sure what version of firmware you are on, but you might need to downgrade to an older version, run NUTs or another method to flash a new recovery. I went back to a 17.x version and skipped all the setups at firstboot, enabled Developer tools, then USB debugging, allow apps to be installed, and all that nonsense, then I ran locked recovery install.bat.

Have you checked if your region received it through:
Xpericheck.com
Or:
Fwchecker.com
You can download the ftf with Flashtool that got Xperifirm included. It fixes everything automatically, the only thing you have to do is downloading it and afterwards flash it. Even if your region hasn't received you can give another region a go, but I wouldn't recommend it, because the mobile network is customized in each different firmware region

I'm really busy right now. You can try making it yourself with the first link I have posted in OP, or you can wait until I can make it, hopefully in 2 days.

The moment you alter the kernel even the slightest bit from the OEM settings, the bootloader needs to be unlocked.
So my answer is that it won't work with locked bootloader.

Kernels added and updated
One quesgion, bit of a noob question but...
When I unlock bootloader I lose the DRM keys.. How can I get them back or restore them? And second, what do I do if I flash this kernel with latest FW, and let's say there's a newer FW in some months.. Can I then update my FW from flaahtool without losing root or...??

If you like to make your one just use the tool from tobias.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/root-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605
To make it compatible with newer kernels you need to make a small change in android/twrp_common_kmodules folder.
You need to ad a folder in that named with the right kernel version, for version 32.2.A.5.11 it should be 3.10.84-perf-g0802f10
and in that folder you should put these files core_ctl.ko , ecryptfs.ko , kscl.ko , mhl_sii8620_8061_drv.ko and texfat.ko
You can extract them from your folder in system/lib/modules or do as some others have done copy them from the newest folder in tobias tool, but i prefer to use the one from the right version if there are any changes in the drivers.

Yes my phone are rooted with twrp.
If you look at my post above you will see how to make it by your self, but the kernel from DeathStroke should work for you.

I have actually never flashed it with flashtool but i supose it should work just fine.
Usually i use adb and fastboot commands this way you can test the kernel without realy flashing it.
fastboot boot boot.img ( to do a test drive)
fastboot flash boot boot.img (to do the flashing)
Busybox works just fine, xposed should also work if you choose the right version.
