[GUIDE] [LG UP] [Softbrick / Bootloop] "Factory stock flash" - LG K7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello.
If your phone is stuck in a "boot-loop" or is "soft bricked" (security authentication error #9) or otherwise a 'paper-weight' in your eyes already: Give this a try! (Windows platforms only)
LG UP software will flash the ROM with a *.KDZ file (LG / T-Mobile's custom image format).
You can find the LG UP software on this site: https://www.mylgphones.com/download-lg-up-software
You will want to download the LG UP Lab v1.10 version of the software.
On the right panel of the screen: Find "LG USB Drivers" and find the appropriate one for yourself. Then install it on your PC.
Initiating "download mode"
Power down your device completely. Press and hold the "VOLUME UP" key; While holding the VOLUME UP key: Insert the USB cable (it should already be attached to the PC).
The phone will automatically power on and the "DOWNLOAD MODE" image should appear instantly. After this appears: Release the VOLUME UP key.
You should be able to place the phone down and run the LG UP software. You need to select "UPGRADE" (not "refurbished"), then locate the KDZ file (bottom right corner of the program is a vertical "3-dot" image; Used to navigate to your *.kdz file).
Merely hit "START" and wait about ~300s (~5m). The phone will reboot itself. You can exit the program at this point by pressing "Exit."
Finding your stock firmware ROM image:
You can locate your firmware to flash on this site: https://mega.nz/#F!sdwRDLbZ!yPOiRPv5QJS_9I4hzL4ptQ!oVJyjTYB
You can flash as many as times as you'd like. It won't cause you to be unable to boot up to "DOWNLOAD MODE" ever. So do not worry about getting the wrong KDZ image file downloaded the first time. They are ~1GB in size each.
That's it! I hope this helps.
Suggestions include:
Install a TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project)
Install SuperSU (root your phone)
Install ADB (on your PC; A useful utility for installing TWRP / rooting your phone / modding your phone)

When I run LG UP, I get a dialog that says Model List. Under Model it says "unknown" and under COM Ports it says " COM3,K33010l ". When I hit select it says, "You have to select a known model, please."

I ran into a similar issue with a different model.
Try using a different COM port to communicate on.
The common ones I remember using were: 3, 4, 20, 40 and 41.
To change the device's COM port: You should be able to locate it in Windows under the "Device Manager."
The fastest way to get there is to use hotkeys.
Accessing Windows device manager:
Windows key + R
devmgmt.msc (press enter)
You should see your phone listed in the menu tree. Right click on it, then select "Properties."
You should be able to change the COM port it communicates on in one of the sub-menus.
Unfortunately: I do not have a phone and USB handy with me at the moment to look it up.

So i have a k7 europe version. Model info says its x210 so none of the files here are for a x210 variant. Can i use the other files to try and fix the boot loop? Or will i brick my phone even worse? Im stuck in bootloop but i can enter fastboot. Can someone give me some direction?

[Q] My phone was broken

I have updated my phone and now, my phone can't power on (of course I have long-pressed Power button). I am using GT540. Do I have to bring it to LG Customer care? And how I can fix this at home? Please help me!
Try this:
Download the European Open 2.1 ROM from here: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/GT540/ANEUBK/V20a_00/V20A_00.kdz (It is official Europe ROM from LG)
Download KDZ Updater from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?wmtzmzmyuzn
Extract the .rar file and open KDZ_FW_UPD select your ROM by clicking the little folder icon and navigate to the downloads folder, select V20A_00.kdz make sure the mode is set to 3GQCT and DIAG. Hold VOLUME DOWN and plug in the usb cable (KEEP HOLDING DOWN) "Download Mode" should appear on your screen. Let any drivers install then Press "Start Software Update" just wait around 10 mins and your phone should work, if it still doesn't work, repeat the steps above but change DIAG to EMERGENCY and if Emergency doesn't work try CS_EMERGENCY.
Hope it helps,
Jack
I use KDZ Updater. But it say : "Your phone isn't connect. Please connect your phone"

[Q] Nexus 7 Frozen in Bootloader Mode -- Help? :(

Was trying to use a one-click root/unlock program for the Nexus 7. Apparently all the drivers did not install correctly. My tablet rebooted into bootloader mode, but is not responding to any volume button or power button pushes, or any combinations of button presses that I could think of.
I'm stuck at the "Start" bootloader screen. The text in the bottom left says the following:
FASTBOOT MODE
PRODUCT NAME - grouper
HW VERSION - ER3
BOOTLOADER VERSION - 3.34
BASEBAND VERSION - N/A
SERIAL NUMBER - [...]
SIGNING - not defined yet
LOCK STATE - LOCKED

ADB is no longer detecting the tablet as being detected, and no fastboot commands did anything at all.
I have no idea how to do a hard reset on this tablet, and can't find anything about it. Somebody? Anybody? Help?
edit: Power + VolDown seemed to work, but I had to hold it for quite awhile... much longer than I ever expected. Phew.
Did you get it to reboot normally? Go do a search for the Nus 7 image files. It will be a life saver.

As long as you have boot loader mode your in good shape. Download the system images from https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#nakasijrn84d and flash the images via terminal or cmd prompt
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have got the exact same problem. I have tried to flash the stock images to the device but as the bootloader is locked it won't work. Does anyone have any other solutions?
Edit: How long roughly should you have to hold down power and VolDown to hard reset the device?

Until it turns off.
You can also pull the back off with a fingernail or something and pull the battery connector, it isn't too hard.
Google brought up this topic. I received a used Nexus 7 bought from Amazon Warehouse Deals today. It seems that whoever had it before me botched something, as I cannot get past the initial boot. I was able to get to the bootloader mode, and the info near the bottom of the screen is identical to the original poster. I've never learned how to root or unlock a device before, but before I even try to learn that, I would highly appreciate if someone here can let me know if such a fix is even possible since the lock state is marked as "locked". If the bootloader is not unlocked, how will I reinstall the original firmware correctly?
Thanks so much to anyone that can help me. The physical device seems great - no creaks or screen lift, and very little backlight bleed. It'd be a shame to have to return this if I can just figure out how to undo whatever the previous owner messed up.
You can easily unlock it but before you do that, can you get into recovery? Make sure your device is connected to a powered on PC before going into recovery. Once in recovery, you can attempt to restore to factory.
I plugged the tablet into my MacBook before entering the bootloader screen. When I select "Recovery" from the options available to me, it just brings up the white Google logo and then the screen cuts to black.
Glad to know I'll be able to unlock the device... I was just worried that the fact that it is locked in its current state might make such a task difficult. Guess I'll start looking into how to go about unlocking the device - thanks for your help!
Well, problem I'm running into is that I can't put the tablet into the correct mode to be recognized by a program like mskip's Nexus 7 toolkit. The only part of the tablet I can access in the fastboot or bootloader menu (not sure of the correct term...), so when I attempted to connect the device up to my computer to use the program, it just got hung up on attempting to find my device. All the instructions talk about putting the tablet into USB mode and such, but I can't actually get into the OS to change any settings.
I only know how to do it on a PC. Maybe someone with a mac can chime in.
I do have access to a PC; could you explain what is needed? Thanks!
Go here, download and install the android sdk. Once complete, the android sdk manger will open. From the sdk manger, also install the android platform tools and google USB driver. Other options are not necessary.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Then come back here for additional instructions. I'll be here for the next hour.
Done and done. Thanks very much for your assistance! What's next?
Now, go to the installation directory of the android sdk and you should see several files and folders. Of the folders, there should one labeled "platform tools" and another labeled "extras".
Go in to the "extras" folder then "google" folder. Within the google folder, there is a folder labeled "usb-driver". Just make sure the usb driver files and folders are in there.
Now, put your device in bootloader mode and connect it to the PC. Your PC will start installing the drivers. If it succeeds then double check it in device manager. If it does not, you need to manually install the drivers from device manager and point it to the "extras" folder as the location of the driver.
When the drivers are properly installed, in the device manager, it should say "android bootloader interface" under "android device" or something similar to that. If it doesn't, review the previous steps as you can’t go any further if the PC does not recognize the device.
Okay that is done - I see "Android Device" listed under Device Manager, as well as an entry for Google Nexus 7 Bootloader Interface... next?
Presuming the drivers are properly installed, go back to the android sdk installation folder and go in to the "platform-tools" folder. In that folder you should see several folders and files including “adb.exe” and “fastboot.exe”. Once in that folder, press the "shift" key AND the right mouse button to bring up the context menu. In the context menu selection, click "open command window here" and a command window will open up.
With your device still connected to the PC and the device in bootloader mode, in the command window, type “fastboot devices” without the quotes. If the drivers are properly installed, it will display your device’s serial number in the command window. If it does not, you have to review the above steps and correct the issue before proceeding forth.
The serial number is displaying; progress! Now?
Very good!!!
Once it displays your device’s serial number, you are all set to start flashing the factory image. Leave the device connected to you PC and leave the command window open. Go here and download the factory image:
https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/nakasi-jro03d-factory-e102ba72.tgz
Once downloaded, extract it using winrar or whatever archive decompressor you are currently using. When extracted, you should have the following files:
bootloader-grouper-3.34.img
flash-all.sh
flash-base.sh
image-nakasi-jro03d.zip
Copy the “bootloader-grouper-3.34.img” and “image-nakasi-jro03d.zip” files into the “platform-tools” folder.
Or, just read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
Ok, did that. Then?

What is broken?
Hi,
To fix this, you need to use an application called Samsung smart switch on your computer.
1. Download Samsung smart switch onto your computer and install.
2. After it finishes installing, plug your device into your computer using your USB charging cable.
3. On your device boot into the bootloader by pressing, power+volume down+home.
4. When you get to the bootloader it will warn that installing a custom OS may harm your device. Ignore this and press the home button.
5. You will see a few different barcodes and numbers. Copy down the ones labelled S/N (or SN) and IEMI.
6. Now, press home again and stay in the bootloader. Copy down the model number of your phone displayed in the top left corner of the screen.
7. Smart switch will not recognize the phone, but it will still work.
8. In smart switch, click more, then Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization.
9. Where it says Model name, type in your model number. (Ex. SM-G935A)
10. Click search, then type in the S/N or SN number that you copied down from before.
11. Click OK, and when the dialog window comes up, click ok again.
12. A dialog box will appear that shows what is going to be installed on your phone. Click OK.
13. Yet another dialog box will appear telling you to enter the bootloader. If the OK is grayed out double check that your device is plugged into your computer. If it is not, plug it in. If it is, unplug it from your computer and plug it back in. The drivers may install, but eventually the OK will turn blue.
14. Click Ok. It will download the required firmware. This may take some time. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR DEVICE.
15. When it is done downloading it will flash onto your device.
16. Your device will restart after flashing and the boot will take some time.
Your phone will be factory restored during this process. If it doesn't work follow the steps again but very carefully. Here is a video that you can use to help you out:
I will not accept any money that you offer me as I have been through this situation before and I understand the struggle and stress that it may cause.

First of all power of your phone by long pressing power button until screen light goes off completely
Then keep pressing volume + button and connect it to PC via USB cable. [DOWNLOAD MODE]
Now you must be in download mode, simply flash stock firmware.
If you can't enter download mode then you might be in fastboot mode.
here are some threads..find out which one is related to your problem follow instructions carefully.

Thank you my friend for all your answers. In substance;
I can't open my phone. (Staying at LG logo screen.)
I can't do "Hard Reset" with phone buttons. (Because of "boot certification error" screen.)
I can enter "Download Mode" but I can't loading any .KDZ file with Flash Tool. (Stuck at %2)
My computer can't see my phone when I plug that.
Very hard situation. :crying:

Reinstall LG drivers and PDA
then connect phone with PC in download mode.
open device manager and search for 'COM ports' list if you see your device there then you are ready to go.
If your device is not there then search under 'Other devices' and manually install drivers.
If you can boot into download mode and still you can't see your device in your PC then it's not problem with your G2. It's your PC which is causing it all.
Try another PC.

help whit my samsung J5 please

Hi guys, I've been looking on the forums and i didn't find a way to solve my problem, my Samsung J5 J500m has the "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software" screen. I've tried both smart switch and Samsung kies and it hasn't worked, the thing is that i don't have the "depuration usb" on, nor the eom unblocked, the phone interal memory is almost full and i don´t have any custom recovery such as twrp or others.
If anyone knows how to solve this or can send me to the right thread i would really appreciate it

You don't need usb debugging or oem unlocked to recover your phone. Smart switch's emergency recover detector isn't that reliable sometimes it doesn't detect devices in emergency recover mode. However there should be a second tab in smart switch to recover your phone. It's "device initialization", device initialization works similar like odin. If you don't have this tab then you probably installed a newer version of smart switch. If that's the case follow this instruction:
1. Uninstall current installed smart switch from your pc
2. Download this ealier version of smart switch from samsungs official download center.
3. Install it. Once you run smart switch you might get a pop up screen to update to the latest smart switch version: don't update it!!. press cancel.
4. Now reinstall usb drivers in smart switch: more > reinstall device driver. Make sure to disconnect your cable first.
5. if finished, locate to More > Emergency software recovery and initialization > device initialization
6. There is a section to enter your model name, enter SM-J500M. Press search.
7. Now you need to enter your serial number. As you can't access your phone to view your serial number, you can still find it printed on your phone packaging or behind your device's battery. Enter your serial number in S/N section. Press confirm. Note: New devices don't support "device initialization" but your device should be still supported
8. Now you should see a pop up window where you see something like "initialized version". Press Ok and let smart switch recover your device. You should see a bar appearing on your device screen. If you press "ok" be warned! this step will wipe all your data on your internal storage!
9. After it's finished your device should boot normal again.
Good Luck! :fingers-crossed:
It says "this devices don't support device initialization"
Thanks anyway,

Can you access odin mode (volume down + home button + power button to boot to odin mode)?
If yes, flash a stock firmware for your device using odin. You can download stock firmwares from SamMobile, SamFrew or Updato. Make sure you run Odin as administrator
Thank you, it worked!! :victory::victory:
i was trying whit a sammobile firmeware, i supose it was the wrong one, thanks for sending me the right one
