Fire HD 8 (7th Gen, 5.6.0.0) has No VPN option in wireless setting. - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Fire HD 8 (7th Gen, 5.6.0.0) has No Manual VPN option in wireless setting. But I want to use pptp on it. So, what do i need to use PPTP option. My VPN server's android application just give UDP and TCP.
Do I need to root it or Do I need to install some applications?
Help plz.

I have this issue also. New HD10, and no VPN menu in Wifi settings. I don't want to use a VPN service, I just want to VPN to my home router when I'm out on a public WiFi. I do have Google Play installed. Is there an app there that will work for this?

How have you solved it? I've just found out this lack and i don't know how to solve it.

There are plenty of VPN clients on the Play Store that let you use your own.

Can lakitu47 (or anyone) suggest some VPN apps that I can use to reinstate VPN now it's gone from Fire OS so I can connect in to my own VPN-router?
My router supports L2TP with pre-shared Key -- which works fine with Android and iOS built-in VPN clients. Have tried downloading the FortiClient app but can't get it to correctly-VPN to my router.

Did anyone get this to work? I have a pureVPN account and loaded the app, but due to the Kindle Fire restrictions I am only able to use UDP or TCP, which means it doesn't work with apps like iplayer etc.
Was anyone able to get a L2TP or PPTP to work with the Kindle Fire HD 8?

GFW (Great FireWall) in China is a cruel obstacle for anyone in China to surf excellent sites such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo etc due to political reasons. No freedom for guys in China to obtain info.
Why should people use personal VPN service?
To visit the blocked sites. To prevent people utilize the internet with freedom, many governments do network blocks.
To share the public WiFi network safely and the data will be encrypted to protect your own info.
To unblock VoIP apps such as Skype.
To bypass geological limitations such as Hulu.com asks for USA IP only.
To hide your real IP completely.
To use P2P safely.

You can use PUFF SSH app for Android if you owe SSH accounts.

Kindle Fire should be Rooted before using it.
Now let me introduce how to use VPN.
Install Bzeek on your laptop which is a FREE solution for Win XP, Vista, Win7 users sharing their WiFi network.
Run Bzeek.(A fix for BUG http://www.bzeek.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1990)
Install ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher (Google to download it) in Kindle Fire and set Bzeek Free WiFi in the SSID in Infrastructure Mode, then switch to Ad-hoc Mode and connet it to Bzeek Free WiFi on your laptop.
Run your VPN on the laptop.
Then your Kindle Fire will be in other country, just check the IP with the Browser.
Images are post in Chinese forum:

Its a bit convoluted though isn't it?
I've been doing something similar with my iPhone hotspot/VPN which has the benefit of always being with me. My laptop mostly stays at home.
Ye, not the happiest solution at all but it works. Apparently, you can do the same using your router, Kindle and the VPN.
But -- I will definitely try this method because you don't carry a router with you 24/7. Thanks

[Q] Are there ANY builds for the Nook Color with working VPN?

I know this bug was filed in April 2011:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=3353
As far as I know, VPN has never worked on the Nook Color. I know there has been new splash screens or pretty wallpapers added, but I don't know of anything changed with VPN. I can watch anime and play video games, but I can never connect to my office to work on a server.
CyanogenMod 7.0, 7.1, 7.2: try to connect to VPN = hard lock.
CyanogenMod 9.0: try to connect to VPN = always fails.
PPTP or L2TP, it's always the same.
I'm guessing when CyanogenMod 10 comes out, VPN will still not work.
Is there any build of any version of Android that works on the Nook Color that allows for a VPN connection to be established?
It's the same with my HP TouchPad. VPN always fails.

I've never thought of myself "stuck" with VPN. I just click "connect" and it works. Usually.
Windows - connects to our L2TP and Cisco IPSec devices.
Mac OS X - connects to our L2TP and Cisco IPSec devices.
iOS - connects to our L2TP and Cisco IPSec devices.
Android (Nook Color, HP TouchPad) - no connection possible!
I use iTap/RDP, iTeleport/VNC, and local Intranet web pages.
All those work over SSH?
I didn't intend "stuck" to be pejorative, but lots of places (like where I work) offer both VPN and SSH access.
As for services, I use ConnectBot's SSH tunnels for VNC, email, chat, etc.
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium
I've yet to find a build that works with the Cisco AnyConnect client, and I've been trying.
The latest CM7 kang build works with VPNs, udp, tdp, etc. perfectly.
It's already configured in the code to work, but you need to download this:

VPN for Nexus Player

Anyone know if there is a vpn that works on nexus player yet? One that doesn't keep logs.
Yup. IPVanish doesn't keep logs and their Android app works on the Nexus Player.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61837868&postcount=321
I use PIA, I sideloaded the app on my Nexus Player, and it works fine, just don't try to use Netflix when connected to VPN, because it won't work. Apparently it's an issue with android, not Netflix.
The sideloaded "normal" Netflix app works with VPN, but it crashes if you try and click e.g. the subtitle button.
Bump
Any new VPN for the Nexus Player?
Thanks!
i tried Hotspot shield VPN Elite , connect OK , i open netflix , loads a long time, i can see the foreign Catalog , but when i tried to see anything popup a message that i using a Proxy server. D4MN!!
I use unlocator. It costs money and not free, but Is stable and reliable. It's configured on my home network and the NP works great with it (I use netflix, Pandora, bt, espn, bbc iplayer, nba...)
Anyone try sideloading expressvpn on nexus player?
I sideloaded F-Droid and I was able to install regular ol' OpenVPN for Android, which is supported by most if not all providers, including those that don't log.
Since NP is going to be tied to your home network, you really should consider implementing your VPN at the ROUTER level, not on your NP.
Hey guys, I need VPN client for Nexus Player connection to other private server through PPTP (not public service, just private with custom IP, login/pass). And problem that router without VPN connection support, so I need it on the device. Any suggestions?

I use PIA on mine. Sideloaded, sits sideways, guess you could fix that with some rotation app. Anyways I can connect with my remote and set it up to auto connect when I open it, I disconnect with my remote.

If I right understand what does you mean, this is third party service, isn't it? But I need direct connection to my own VPN server with PPTP.
Is there way to access inbuilt vpn settings or 3rd party app to enter own/custom vpn settings?

Which app will re-instate (own router) VPN? (5.6.0.0 VPN setting option removed)

- FireOS 5.6.0.0 removed the VPN options from Settings on my Fire HD 8 tablet.
- I have my own router which acts as a VPN server (L2TP with pre-shared Key).
- Is there an app (in Google Play store) that would allow me to set up that VPN connection (now I can no longer do it the 'normal' way in Settings)?
I'm not looking to use a third-party commercial VPN service provider (like NordVPN), simply to be able to make a VPN connection back to my own VPN router (i.e. add my own L2TP over IPSec VPN: IP address, username, password and pre-shared key).
Maybe there is an app designed for a commercial service which allows you to add your own personal VPN server - I just can find it. Any ideas?
If not, any other suggestion to reinstate the VPN settings option? Thanks
Apologies for the similar post elsewhere (it was a reply to a broader issue so got a bit lost and no-one replied!)
did you ever get anywhere with this? the software for my VPN (PureVPN) only has TCP and UDP as options, and I really need to get PPTP or L2TP working on my kindle fire HD 8 (7th gen)...! Cheers.
did anyone figure out how to set up manual vpn on the fire 10? so frustrating! would love to know how.... i have set up several vpn connections manually on my galaxy note 8 phone and it works great!

VPN app for home VPN?

I have a VPN server set up at my house on an old XP machine for one reason, so i can connect to it for various media providers that require you to be home to use their full service. This works perfectly with the built in android VPN on my phone but I was hoping there was a VPN app I can install on my firestick, every vpn app i found is one that uses its own servers, I just need one like the basic VPN setup in android that you can use a PPTP server with a username and password?
open Vpn , i used it for pptp server on my firestick gen 2. Might be worth looking into. Best of luck =)

Can you elaborate more on this? The gen 2 stick, did you need to root it to make it function as a server? I've been looking everywhere for info to make firestick a vpn server.
Sorry this is mega late, I just installed open vpn to the stick and put in the info.
