[Q] Are there ANY builds for the Nook Color with working VPN? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this bug was filed in April 2011:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=3353
As far as I know, VPN has never worked on the Nook Color. I know there has been new splash screens or pretty wallpapers added, but I don't know of anything changed with VPN. I can watch anime and play video games, but I can never connect to my office to work on a server.
CyanogenMod 7.0, 7.1, 7.2: try to connect to VPN = hard lock.
CyanogenMod 9.0: try to connect to VPN = always fails.
PPTP or L2TP, it's always the same.
I'm guessing when CyanogenMod 10 comes out, VPN will still not work.
Is there any build of any version of Android that works on the Nook Color that allows for a VPN connection to be established?
It's the same with my HP TouchPad. VPN always fails.

Are you stuck with VPN and cannot use an SSH client like ConnectBot?

I've never thought of myself "stuck" with VPN. I just click "connect" and it works. Usually.
Windows - connects to our L2TP and Cisco IPSec devices.
Mac OS X - connects to our L2TP and Cisco IPSec devices.
iOS - connects to our L2TP and Cisco IPSec devices.
Android (Nook Color, HP TouchPad) - no connection possible!
I use iTap/RDP, iTeleport/VNC, and local Intranet web pages.
All those work over SSH?

I didn't intend "stuck" to be pejorative, but lots of places (like where I work) offer both VPN and SSH access.
As for services, I use ConnectBot's SSH tunnels for VNC, email, chat, etc.
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium

I've yet to find a build that works with the Cisco AnyConnect client, and I've been trying.

The latest CM7 kang build works with VPNs, udp, tdp, etc. perfectly.
It's already configured in the code to work, but you need to download this:

IPSEC VPN on the HD

Sorry to be a pain with a new thread, but I need to connect to a standard IPSEC (cisco) VPN gateway. IPSEC is built in on the iphone2.0 but apparently not on winmo so what's the cheapest (free?) client to use that will work with the HD?
Thanks
Nothing good for free so far...
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395622
You can go green or blue, but neither of these is free:

Have fun
I connect to my workplace using IPSec/L2TP built into Win 6.1 on my Diamond, IPSec is what the connection is at work and I connect without any problems..
Trixster,
What firewall do you use with this? I'm using a CISCO ASA (previously PIX) and can't seem to get it working. In the ASA logs it looks like it's not selecting the right tunnel.
Are you using a cert or a preshared key?
Thanks
Pre-shared Key and the unit is SnapGear 560, I haven't setup the HD yet to connect as I'm still playing with it but I don't see why it should differ from the Diamond?
Native IPSec stack on WM6.1 doesn't seem to be compatible with Cisco IPSec.

I'm beginning to think this, but I also have a feeling it might be to do with NAT-T.
I'm going to carry on trying today, failing that I will be going to bluefire (or anything else you can recommend? I'm after a lightweight VPN client just for the odd session, it doesn't need to be smart)

Windows Mobile IPSec VPN?

My phone is really like a small computer (HTC Advantage x7510) and I would really like to be able to connect it to my company's corporate VPN. A typical windows/mac/linux client connects with Cisco's AnyConnect software, and while Cisco released a version of AnyConnect with the iPhone, they didn't for Windows Mobile 6.1. The problem as I understand it is that Windows Mobile natively supports PPTP and L2TP/IPSec connections while the Cisco implementation wants pure IPSec. The authentication scheme that we use is certificate based and then user/pass based. I created a user certificate on my desktop and then exported it to a .pfx (PKCS #12 Container) file and then imported it on my mobile device.
I have tried The Green Bow, but I have been unable to get this to work... The app seems rather buggy and I can't even save off the log properly to find out why it isn't working.
http://www.thegreenbow.com/mobile.html
Bluefire seemed like it would do the trick, but after I tell it what Certificate to use and click Finish, it tosses out an error: "An internal error has occurred while processing your request. Please contact the system administrator". It appears that Bluefire Security has disappeared, at least from the web.
Anatha VPN seemed like it would be an option, however the UI seems buggy because I can't get the dropdowns to work in the configuration (using any DPI setting in realvga). Either the Gateway dropdown or the Gateway Type dropdown do not work... it varies.

Does anyone have a solution? Free or commercial... doesn't matter.
Latest version of NCP VPN works very very well for Cisco IPSec, you can download a trial version which is valid for a few days. not buggy, but commercial....

I am not sure who told you there wasn't a Windows Mobile version of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client because there is. There are Windows versions, Intel & PowerPC Mac OS X versions, Linux versions and Windows Mobile 5/6 versions available. I can't however see an iPhone version.
The current version for all platforms is 2.3.0254. The release notes are here:

AnyConnect VPN Client is available for WM Pro, but it does not support IPSec...
The Anyconnect from Cisco doesnt work with the concentrators.

No it doesn't. The 3000 series concentrators have been EOL for a while. The AnyConnect client is for use with IOS Routers and ASA Firewalls (plus the PIX but this is EOL as well). You can use the native L2TP/IPSec client in WM5/6 with the 3000 Concentrator though (as you can with IOS & the ASA).

We have a trial mobile agent setup and I have anyconnect installed and configured on my phone. I am able to establish a VPN over HSPDA and I can hit internal web pages via IE, but I am unable to RDP or SSH anywhere. Is anyone using anyconnect and able to do these things?

I know this is really old, but I was looking for some ipsec stuff for home. However I do use AnyConnect for SSL work vpn and I can RDP and SSH just fine.
The AnyConnect SSL Mobile client works great with the ASA 5500's. Does anyone know what it takes to fool the router into thinking a mobile device is not VPN'ing in? You need a Windows Mobile AnyConnect license installed to make the Windows Mobile client connect. We do not own any at the moment and I'm eager to see it work.
Ok I've got my ASA 5510 working perfectly using Windows Mobile and Bluefire IPSec vpn. We normally run SSL Vpn but keep Ipsec open for site to site VPN as well as mobile VPN. I got a quote on Cisco SSL AnyConnect mobile licenses on the firewall and they are $100 a pop. But if you're looking for a great IpSec client that works go with Bluefire...

vpn win 8

is wp8 will support VPN ... ???
Yes. I use VPN on my Win8 PC and the test tablet at my work. PPTP/SSTP/ICMP all work.
Haven't tried OpenVPN but should work no issues.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I use Shrew VPN....is free and support .pcf files
SInce I use HideIPVPN as my provider I have checked their Windows software yesaterday under W8 Release Preview.
Worked (desktop mode only) exactly as in Win 7.
Log in, choose server from you package - connect.
Netflix and Hulu worked without any problems under Chrome both in Modern UI and Desktop mode (tested only PPTP VPNprotocol but I do not see a reason for L2TP or SSTP not to work).
So, nor problems with VPN and Win 8.
This means I only need VPN on WP8 system as well + Market Enabler (as in Android) and it Christmas for me
+Hey guys

I dont see any reason why it should not work.
I can test it over the weekend when I reconnect HDD with W8 onboard
HSS works.. but not for the metro apps.
Because HSS only works for browsers as far as I know.
This is why I use VPN - all traffic, regardless of program creating it is directed to VPN server.
This means that I can use Spotify in Poland or watch Netflix on my iPad .
I have checked with W8 and both Chrome and IE in Modern UI mode use VPN as well (they got no choice).
I have read yesterday that WP8 will not support VPN but Secure SSL to access company servers - does any one know it this protocol can be used to change IP of a device? I suppose VPN servers would have to have additional software active to support this kind of connection...

Fire HD 8 (7th Gen, 5.6.0.0) has No VPN option in wireless setting.

Fire HD 8 (7th Gen, 5.6.0.0) has No Manual VPN option in wireless setting. But I want to use pptp on it. So, what do i need to use PPTP option. My VPN server's android application just give UDP and TCP.
Do I need to root it or Do I need to install some applications?
Help plz.
I have this issue also. New HD10, and no VPN menu in Wifi settings. I don't want to use a VPN service, I just want to VPN to my home router when I'm out on a public WiFi. I do have Google Play installed. Is there an app there that will work for this?
How have you solved it? I've just found out this lack and i don't know how to solve it.
There are plenty of VPN clients on the Play Store that let you use your own.
Can lakitu47 (or anyone) suggest some VPN apps that I can use to reinstate VPN now it's gone from Fire OS so I can connect in to my own VPN-router?
My router supports L2TP with pre-shared Key -- which works fine with Android and iOS built-in VPN clients. Have tried downloading the FortiClient app but can't get it to correctly-VPN to my router.

Did anyone get this to work? I have a pureVPN account and loaded the app, but due to the Kindle Fire restrictions I am only able to use UDP or TCP, which means it doesn't work with apps like iplayer etc.
Was anyone able to get a L2TP or PPTP to work with the Kindle Fire HD 8?

VPN app for home VPN?

I have a VPN server set up at my house on an old XP machine for one reason, so i can connect to it for various media providers that require you to be home to use their full service. This works perfectly with the built in android VPN on my phone but I was hoping there was a VPN app I can install on my firestick, every vpn app i found is one that uses its own servers, I just need one like the basic VPN setup in android that you can use a PPTP server with a username and password?
open Vpn , i used it for pptp server on my firestick gen 2. Might be worth looking into. Best of luck =)

Can you elaborate more on this? The gen 2 stick, did you need to root it to make it function as a server? I've been looking everywhere for info to make firestick a vpn server.
Sorry this is mega late, I just installed open vpn to the stick and put in the info.
