Huawei P9 Lite Oreo - Huawei P9 Lite Questions & Answers

Okey so i have found on a few sites that Huawei P9 Lite will get Oreo so i assume it's a mistake and what they mean is Huawei P9 Lite 2017 edition. So my question is what is your opinion on this and do you think that we will get Oreo. It makes me angry that i payed around 350 euros when this phone came out and i will only get nougat while Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X wich is btw more cheaper, like half the price, already have stable custom Oreo rom and i found on some sites that Xiaomi actually plan on update-ing most od devices to Oreo so WTF HUAWEI WE WANT OREO!!!! Also there are not a lot of custom roms for our device that are usable and stable... Anyone knows why? Is this phone that big of a s**t that no one actually wants to do anything about it. Thank you for reading this now post some opinion or answer!

Tbh you are kinda overreacting. It takes a lot, and i say, A LOT of optimizations for the rom to be stable.
Take a look at how many people didn't even got nougat.
In my opinion, we have a chance to get oreo, because i think this phone supports Project Treble.

Is the Redmi 2 still worth it?

Hey all,
This is my first post in quite a while on XDA, since I was basically forced to move to IOS (my Ascend Mate 7 was stolen a few months ago ).
I really, really miss Android, and wish to return to the ecosystem that I love most by buying a "cheap and cheerful" Android device out of contract. Xiaomi devices have started popping up in my local stores, thus I was wondering if you guys can offer any insight on whether moving to the Redmi 2 would garner a satisfactory experience (coming from an iPhone 5s)? I wouldn't label myself as a power user anymore, though I am a huge fan of tweaking and ricing my phones, thus I do not need a octa-core gazillion GB RAM powerhouse (yet). Just enough to do all the usual phone stuff and perhaps play Downwell / Pocket Morties every once in a while. Does the Redmi stand up to these needs?
Also if I do pick one up I will absolutely stick a Cyanogenmod (or equivalent) ROM on the phone, thus can anyone comment on performance gain / loss after flashing a custom ROM? Are there any ROM suggestions for daily use (I probably won't flash a different ROM every week, but rather settle on the most stable and closest-to-stock ROM I can find)?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! :good:
I think Redmi 2 Pro/Prime is still worth it, but not sure about 2/2A. Even miui 8 for redmi 2 is based on kitkat while pro/prime seems to be based on lollipop. Features like second space and other new things that miui 8 brings are absent from kitkat version.
Now, CM13 is getting pretty stable, and premaca and nick are working on Nougat and CM14, and not only this, it boots. Thee are not a lot of phones running Nougatand Redmi 2 is one of those few add to this the price and could sound ad a no-brainer.

If Huawei don't release sources properly to encourage development, as much as I like my Mate 7, I will never buy another Huawei.
OmniROM Nougat 7.1 experimental has just been released for my Oppo Find 7 which is older than the Mate 7 and will have a longer life than the Mate because of this. The Oppo never got official past LP but the community kept it up to date.
Huawei want to beat Samsung soon and are aiming at beating Apple as a phone brand. I think they will stay as closed source as they can get away with.....

The people interested in custom roms make such a small share compared to those who don't care at all, so why should they even think about releasing sources? As much as I wish for more customizability I don't think it makes that much sense for them as a company tho..

While its true that we are few in number, we have power! Androids GPL states that any OEM that uses any of the code must provide all sources. The problem has always been that no one wants to pick a fight with Huawei in China.
LeEco recently released all their hardware sources because they have started selling their devices in the US (directly). If Huawei tries to do so they will have to release all sources as well thanks to the GPL. So, anyone who buys a mate 9 might have CM14 or AOSP provided a dev is interested.
Let's hope Huawei tries to sell here. As far as the mate 7 goes..... Yeah, it's ****ed! Let's all just move on cause EMUI is just horrible!
If OmniROM were available for the Mate 7, it would be such a nice phone. I can only dream.....
I actually don't have a clue what will come after my Mate 7 and Find 7 are done with. I was thinking maybe a 1+ but the latest fiasco just reinforces to me that they don't actually give a sh*t about their customers and constantly make really poor errors of judgement. Not sure what else I would buy. Not a Samsung or Apple, that's 100% certain. Maybe I'd look more at other Chinese manufacturers trying to go global, maybe a Lenovarola? Wait and see what Nokia do? Maybe Asus will get their act together?
For boot emui 5 is necessary a phone with the same processor and the unique phone with the same processor of mate 7 is honor 6 and honor 6 plus

A few devs are already working on bringing AOSP (android open source project) based on android 6.0 to the mate 7. Once AOSP 6.0 is stable, it will be easy and quick to get android 7.0 stable.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. The few devs that are working on it atm are not able to dedicate enough time build a working ROM. If you guys want longterm support, I suggest you invite a dedicated dev.
A dev that can put in the required hours and release proper and timely updates. Those that are willing should buy an extra mate 7 and give/lend to a dedicated dev that will produce custom ROMs. This is XDA, it's not hard to find a dev that would be willing to do this.

Lol! Yeah! No thanks! I dont use the mate 7 anymore. I got a OnePlus 3 and a Nexus 5. If you plan on getting updates though, your gonna need to find a dev otherwise enjoy marshmallow with emui.
i just wish there will be custom roms available in the future based on nougat. wishful thinking.
On emui website, we can download the emui 5.0 under the mate 7 selections. Did anybody ever try, and install it? If yes, how to do the installation?

Don't get your hopes up, the kernel source for marshmallow has been available for a long time now, however no developers have the time at the moment to work on a pure AOSP 6 ROM.

why dont get huawei p8 android 7 ?

it is huawei 2015 best phone but year 2017 huawei p8 dont get android 7 but it s getting only google patch update no big update.samsung s6 is getting android 7 and iphone 6 os getting ios 10 but p8 dont get big update.
İ m sad huawei
Yes, i agree
I agree but AFAIR the problem is that the graphic section of the SoC will not receive any official Android 7 drivers support anymore. The architecture of the section is pretty old (from 2012) so Huawei and Mali will not care.

Maybe. I do not know. But large companies do not work like that.
Of course I want to have Android 7 on my P8 but I think it is highly improbable, at least officially.
I just want to say just one thing as Huawei argues for updating a low medium like gt3 and abandoning 2 top ranges like p8 and mate s i think the same fate will be on the p9 series as they will not even have the 5.1th nougat is the first is the last major Update then will go on until the 2 years with patches and think that Samsung in November updates to nougat even j5 2015 is absurd
Other significant Andorid 7 / Nougat P8 threads to see what has been discussed before:
[Discussion] Not happy P8 won't be updated to Nougat? REPORT! [possibly the first such thread]
Nougat might be coming as said by a Huawei employee [not true of course!]

Can people please refrain from starting any more related threads - it's getting a bit annoying now. Do a forum search instead.
Ok here's what Dumbawei thinks:
- Oh look, we just selled 20 million P8 Lite! This is a great thing! We also have to upgrade to Android 7 but the hardware of P8 Lite isn't good enough. SO WHY THE HELL SHOULD WE DO THE SAME ON THE P8? THEY HAVE THE SAME NUMBER BRUH SO THEY'RE THE SAME RIGHT?
Here's what developers think:
- Hey the P8 Lite is so popular so we should mod it anyway why not? He can't run almost nothing including itself but WHY NOT??
Here's what Resurrection Remix developers think:
OH GOD THIS CAN RUN ALMOST NOTHING INCLUDING ITSELF. LET'S MAKE A ROM FOR IT!!
Here's what P8 Lite owners think:
Ma niga dis phone crap af why did I buyed it ma niga
Or else:
YES I GOT THE *insert clash royale stuff here*!!! THE WHOLE WORLD MUST NOW IT!!
Here's what P8 owners think:
Crap.
So this is why the Huawei P8 will never get Android 7

Community development strength

You're a power user. Can the Honor V10 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Honor V10. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I like the mobile myself but I have no idea if this company releases kernel sources or allows unlocked bootloaders easily.

dude, how many phones did get oreo ? even the recently launched op5t (next to pixel in software updates ) has nougat pre installed . wait for 2018, you will surely get. and believe me, Oreo already has battery drain bug and that's why 8.1 launched recently .
consider famous brands like s8 and note 8 , they are still using nougat.
Of all oreo devices out there now is in beta phase only.
so.. do you want slow update STABLE os or do u want fast update BUGGY os ? believe me, i have used honor 6 and oneplus 3 and i certainly felt like you before switching to oneplus 3 but the weekly or frequent updates made a headache for me. well that's may be just me. but it's also a fact. neither am against a company nor am favouring anyone but i just stated my point
I don't know if everybody here thinks wrong, or I am wrong . Honor v10 comes with Oreo out of the box.

dude, what about Nokias, HTC U11, U11+, some Honors already, Xperia XZ1, Compact, Xiaomi, and many others, not mentioning all with Android One program? And "consider famous brands like s8 and note 8 , they are still using nougat..." Well, thats just Samsung, never been so fast with updates, nor it's a famous brand, the s8 or note 8 (but you've meant models, not brand, right?).
Honor v10 comes with oreo and treble support, so you can't even compare that to pre oreo phones that were born with nougat. In theory the treble support and the fact that Huawei released the kernel sources for this phone straight away, should allow for some decent community development
On top of that, I think Huawei was just giving out 100 free devices to willing developers because they want to strenghth the custom rom community for this phone
I think honor really trying to compete with one plus by helping developers by providing all the hardware details and documentation to develop custom Roms for the Honor View 10 and with the treble support soon we will get many custom Roms. I hope developers will take interest in this device.

What stable os are you talking about..
I bought the view 10 recently .. it was all good till i got the recent face unlock update..
The touch lag is pathetic ( couple of other member's here pointed it out too )
Before the update it was fantastic , but now for a person who types fast its very annoying..

Yes , wiped chache and even full reset , still i can notice the lag .
I thought it was just my mobile but found out in this forum couple of other guys too have the same issue ..
Can anyone post their touch latency figure's ?
If anyone could do before and after update it would be highly appreciated
Which community? Since the bootloader is locked this device is crap for me. I will replace my Honor view 10 with an OnePlus . Cu
Dead.. Community development is bad.
Broken recoveries.
Difficult and buggy flash procedures that render different results.
What works on one phone isn'tguaranteed to work on the next of the same make and model.
Really nice hardware.. Just tedious flash procedures.
Many other companies willingly help developers... While honor steals improvements and then locks down their phones.
If you really want a flash friendly phone.. Huawei and honor isn't.
My next phone will be a Samsung Galaxy note 10 international version.
If you're looking for a development-friendly phone, Honor is not the solution for you. We do have a program where we give out bootloader unlock codes to a select number of people every once in a while, but there is no official support for unlocking your bootloader. This results is a very small development community.

Situation with OTAs,any type of Betas ?

I'm in a position where I could trade in my Oneplus 6T for a 9T.I like the 9T for it's cameras, bigger battery, fingerprint and feel it would be a useful trade for me, but.
Oneplus is so good with OTAs and open betas
I would probably miss that if I moved
What's Xiaomi like for updates ?
Specifically ,are there any Beta programs
Read somewhere they've stopped global betas
So then you only have something like quarterly updates,
Is that correct ?
I'd flash the eu Version (has no bloatware) and they push weekly updates

China beta updates every week and xiaomi.eu debloats It and adds language support, so of you're confortable with modding (you don't lose your warranty of you unlock the bootloader) and want a taste of MIUI, you can use Xiaomi.eu beta ROM (most certainly First build Will come out tomorrow morning)

Yes, unfortunely this Is the worst thing about Xiaomi, software, that's One of the reasons why It Is so cheap, luckily enough there are plenty of devs willing ti build custom ROMs and patch GSI images for Xiaomi devices
there is no xeu beta rom for k20/mi9t. only stable.
and there is for k20pro/mi9t pro. i am also little disappointed , but even if xiaomi wil stop global beta program, why there are beta roms for others for example mi9se, as i metion already k20pro, why no for me 9t/k20
