Twrp issues - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

So I just unlocked my bootloader and I am eventually going to flash lineage, but every time I go to flash twrp so I can go back to the nmj32f firmware so I can use it, I am getting an error that it cannot flash it. Anyone have any idea? Thank you beforehand, this is the first phone I have rooted since the old htc slide and htc4g days so it's been awhile.

Did you do "fastboot flashing unlock_critical" when unlocking the bootloader?

No I did not send it through as critical. The guide just had me do flash boot unlock bootloader and it unlocked. Should I relock and put in that command? Will that allow twrp to be installed?

No need to relock it. Just send the unlock_critical command and you should be good to go.
Take a look at this page too: http://mata.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

After that I put it through for the twrp command correct?

Thank you very much, I have used xda for about 8 years or so now, I just haven't messed with a phone in 3 or so. Really glad to see the community is still helpful as ever. I remember when the original miui roms came out haha, that and CyanogenMod were some of my favorites, what happened to CyanogenMod ? I haven't seen any roms or new of them.

After you unlock_critical you will be able to send the command "fastboot flash boot twrp.img". Read everything at http://mata.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ before you start though.

Glad I can help! I've been around awhile myself but tend to stay in the background lol.
Actually, CyanogenMod still continues under the new name LineageOS

I miss the buy me a beer button, I have bought so many people so many beers through xda haha! Thank you again man, I a.m going to finish rooting this bad boy tomorrow. Goodnight and thank you again!

So I sent the unlock critical command and I unlocked the bootloader, but when I send fastboot flash boot twrp.img I get an error saying it cannot flash it.
I just need to downgrade to the nmj32f firmware so I can flash lineage :crying: Any help would be greatly appreciated

status update on root for our device

Me, Honestly Annoying, and 4 others are working getting root, and fastboot working on our device. As far as where we are at (as of this post), fastboot pulls up on the phone and the computer recognizes it, most fastboot commands work, but the ones involving unlocking the bootloader don't work. On every file we have tried up to this point, except for the userdebug I posted a bit ago we get file "signature verification failed", but that is due to a locked bootloader. we have been working nonstop to get the fastboot to function in our device so we can unlock our bootloader. If, and I mean if, this works right, it will easily be applied to quite a few devices. so, in short, we are working on it. We will release the files we have once we are SURE that they work like they are supposed to.
Just don't ask how long it's gonna take to be completed, cuz we honestly don't know. But we are working almost night and day to get this done
For real... Been day and night on this one
If anyone has any ACTUAL questions (ie. not an ETA), please ask them. If you would like to offer ACTUAL help (ie. not "I will test your root method" because there is none to test) please tell us here! Also, @autoprime you have been strangely quiet about all of this, can you offer some insight about where we are? It would be much appreciated
Let me know if there's any help I can render!

Nice!!! Are you sure it actually didn't just rewrite aboot during boot to the stock aboot? And what was modified on your aboot?

We don't think so, though we will have to do some testing on that...
And schizoid cross edited the T-Mobile aboot with our aboot to see if the fastboot commands will work, we're still testing that

We checked, it definitely isn't writing the aboot back when it boots. Still won't recognize unlock commands though...

sorry, never have and never will use Skype.
I'll chat on any public XDA thread or #LG-IRC on Freenode IRC.
How are you getting fasboot, wiping recovery or laf? flashed another devices aboot?
you mention changing aboot... you have directly edited the stock Sprint LS992 aboot.img? Or flashed another devices aboot?

No worries... this is OK
A while back Tungkick made me a TOT that booted into fastboot. Don't know what she did to edit it, but it works. However it did not recognize ANY fastboot commands, but once I enabled userdebug by editing the build.prop it started to recognize some of them. As far as aboot goes, that's all @schizoidd and I'll let him explain
ok so what has been edited and done. i looked at our aboot and compared it to tmobile's and noticed a few things were missing like the "welcome to fastboot" and a few other things. and on ours, there was some random characters that were in ours but not in t-mobile's nor on the verizon one, so on the stock edited, i just deleted that code. and like Honestly Annoying said, it booted without an issue. i also created another file with tmobile and sprint's aboot merged together and it also booted.
the things done on the merged aboot, sprint encryption, keysand a few other things, tmobile everything else. i have the files but will not upload to here until i know what's all going on
@autoprime ^^^ last post explains what we're doing

Nobody has to get that done. It's already done. Fastboot OEM unlock unlocks the bootloader. And root with SuperSu or phh superuser. All we really need is TWRP.

lol u r correct, i forgot about that, i guess just have to wait on a TWRP then.
TWRP is actually waiting on you.
Join #twrp and you'll have it. (see signature for link, or click here)
Basically, we don't have the crypto libraries needed for decrypt because OnePlus hasn't made 3T firmware available yet.
I want you to install a half-working build of TWRP and guide you through making a full firmware flashing backup so I can use that to complete support.
Hop, skip, get to it!
(and no, you will get nothing good out of waiting for someone else to step up)
PS. if you post here saying you will come if no one else does, all you're doing is stopping other people from assisting
Update 1:42 AM EST: no one's showed up yet so I can only assume not many people have received their device yet. i'm gonna take a nap now and i'll be back on in ~10 hours... so about 12 PM EST maybe later. you won't find me online before then. (that's 5 PM UTC+0)

I was thinking, is it possible to do 'fastboot update supersu.zip' first, then backup all the partition first before doing anything. At a minimum you should be able to backup the recovery and rom partition so you can't screw up too bad, since there is no ROM image and official TWRP at the moment.

thanks to @dustin_b twrp is almost complete, I have backup images stored at https://build.nethunter.com/misc/oneplus3T/partitions/ for now which should work through fastboot flash (100% stock, untouched, all dd copies)
should have a public TWRP image up in an hour or 2
I hope that we will see CM14.1 in a week or two. Oxygen OS is a mess full of security bugs.
Cool so root and twrp tonight

TWRP: v3.2.1: Custom Changes to Make it work Much Better: unofficial:

The Current Latest TWRP for the v10 H901, v3.2.1, done by TWRPbuilder, was missing many options and settings,
For the most part it worked, but screen settings was wrong, my device about overheated and I like to have my screen
blink off after 60 secs..
So I took the latest STOCK N source and used the twrpbuilder.jar file to create a device tree from the STOCK Recovery..
edited the device tree to allow everything to work like it should. then built TWRP, tested and works......

If anyone remembers me, I did hold on to my v10 this whole time.. but as I said before, the famous LG Bootloop got my V10, and LG fully Replaced it free of charge and it came back with Nougat, which means No root,
I seen that someone came up with root for it.. so I finally rooted it.. but needed to fix that twrp you all had....
also I sold my HTC10, after doing everything I could over there.. I got tired of HTC, and wanted to give LG another chance.. some say im crazy, but I love challenges..
anyhow I also bought a LG G6 for a good price....... and im not sure if I will get the g7 yet.. still going to wait a bit and see what happends.......
I just hope my freshly built TWRP seems to work better for you all that try it.......
Since I left v10 a while back, I also started a ROM, Yeah, PureFusionOS is mine.. I was main Founder of it......... with over 10k installs.
Dont believe me? Look for your self: https://stats.purefusionos.com/
We havent done much since last year.. but just now currently working on updates and kinda waiting on P.................
maybe I can bring it to this device.. who knows..
Nice to have you back!

I never said it wasn't. I was only explaining that LG removed the flashing commands from fastboot (they only left us with the unlock command and a few other non destructive commands (like getvar)), and that you will need to thoroughly read read read the thread I linked and follow the instructions to a T or you will run the risk of bricking your phone. LG really made it easy to brick this phone if you don't know what you are doing. That thread does state that you shouldn't brick, but if you don't get it right you'll have to flash the kdz (which is linked in another thread somewhere) to start over.

Once you have the other twrp installed (https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/root-h901-nougat-t3773942) boot to twrp and flash the twrp.img from this thread after you extract it from the .tar. The same way you would upgrade any twrp, so really no instructions needed. You could also substitute this .img in those instructions. Once you've rooted a few different kinds of phones some of these kinds of things will make sense to you and just become second nature. Don't get discouraged, you'll get it.

If your on any firmware above 10c LG only gave us the fastboot unlock command, the fastboot boot and fastboot flash commands have been removed. This has been stated many times and in many threads. It has also been stated before to use the proper threads for asking questions, which is one of the rules of xda.
This thread is for the development of this version of twrp.
Those of us that have been rooting since day 1 understand that every phone is different and rooting evolves with the tighter security from the oems. Many of us started with windows phones here on xda before Android was born, or nokia "smart" phones before that.

Honestly if you have to ask how to install twrp, I wouldn't recommend flashing it at all....
if you been doing this for years, then you would know that how to install it requires ROOT or some special way since this is the T-mo threads meaning H901,
BTW peepz, if you think gaining root for the v10 is a trick in its self, try the G6 way.. talk about risky business there.. by the same person..............
NOTE: that doesnt mean TRY the G6 way on the v10,
anyhow. you can flash twrp through your already made recovery or some app that has root......
I flashed this twrp through the recovery that I get when I used the ROOT method on latest ROM......................
I just didnt like the fact that half the options were missing........... I did do another build.. but I didnt release that yet on here.....
if anyone is still having issues, maybe I should upload the other build for you to try..

too bad that we couldnt downgrade to mm. that would be so much easier. lol
I just got hit with the infinite bootloop on my device unfortunately, and modified this twrp image to only use the little cluster: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=818222786056035329 . The cmdline additions are only: maxcpus=4 boot_cpus=0-3. Just in case anyone else wants it
Edit: given the prevalence of this bug, I'd honestly recommend people just keep a 4core twrp flashed on their device for if/when they run into it so it's easier to deal with.

Unlocking bootloader:
Setup ADB and Fastboot on your PC.
Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlock on your watch.
Connect your watch to the PC with a USB cable.
Open a command window on your PC.
Boot your watch into bootloader mode using the following command:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
You may get a request to authorize USB debugging on the device, accept it.
Once your device is in bootloader mode, issue the following command to unlock bootloader:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
You’ll get a confirmation screen on your watch and follow what it says This will begin bootloader unlocking process, which shouldn’t last more than a couple of minutes.
Once bootloader is unlocked, your device will reboot into bootloader mode. You need to boot into system now, either press Power button to reboot OR issue the following command:
Code:
fastboot reboot
During reboot, your watch will go through a factory reset and then finally boot into system.
That’s all. Your watch’s bootloader is now unlocked.
I was able to get the T-Mobile Sales Force factory reset tool which flashes almost every partition with the firehose for the device (Security risk)
Fully wipe your device and return to stock along with removing your ESIM configuration:
Download the tool
Install it
Run it
Unlock the bootloader
Enable adb on your watch
Plug the watch into your computer
Click start in the application
Wait for it to finish and enjoy
Mine just in case

really great are you working on in ,i will buy one after you confirm this messages to me.
thanks man:good::laugh:
i did bought a used one in ebay $42, count on me for testing.
I actually work for TMobile and got this watch way back as an advocate... While sales were pretty poor, this watch is fantastic and deserves development attention! If you need any help with testing, debugging, or anything else please let me know! I'm not a developer per say... But I'm more technically inclined and willing to learn if needed!

If you flash twrp, try to use Linux. Windows was having issues detecting fastboot mode with this watch, but unlocking and flashing through terminal worked just fine. So far, my watch has TWRP and Magisk and works fine. Now we just need to wait FOR ROMs and this watch is as good as new!

Excited for the developments. Sign me up!
Question, if you unlock your bootloader, are you still able to update to the latest version of WearOS?

This watch was abandoned by TMobile when ZTE went through all of it's legal issues. It's also fallen off lists of watches that were being updated right around the time crap got the fan with ZTE. Really sad TBH...
Have we gotten any confirmation from TWRP team regarding an official TWRP recovery image for platy? I keep checking and haven't seen anything... Not trying to ask for ETA or anything, just curious if community development is gonna continue for this watch or not

How to relock bootloader? Help I have to do it fast, I've to ship the phone

OP8Pro IN2020 on android 11 global version.
Flash fastboot rom, then tried to relock bootloader (fastboot oem lock) but when phone boots I get ''your device is corrupted it can't be trusted and will not boot''
Any solution?
Thanks
Solution: first flash fastboot rom via fastboot. Next download flashable rom and flash via local update. Than lock bootloader via fastboot, fastboot oem lock

Lol good, there was a bug which can occur on relocking that causes the fingerprint to break.

@pax2011 let us know what it's like, the fold..I'm curious about it, performance and pros / cons..
Such an odd format for a phone for me.. Was looking at the lg wing, lol it's so mental it's sensible..
Hi, the easiest and most reliable solution to relock the bootloader is to use the MSM tool. It will relock the bootloader and restore the phone to factory configuration.
