[Guide] [Root] Get rid of navbar without any drawbacks (no xposed / substratum) - OnePlus 5T Guides, News, & Discussion

As we all know, it's not possible to remove the 5t navbar by doing a build.prop edit.
This is necessary when switching to gesture based navigation (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation)
Pros of gesture navigation: It gives back precious screen estate, prevents burn in and keeps me from tapping the home key instead of 'space' when typing
For more information: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/themes/setup-navbar-clean-t3708211
The substratum theme disabling the navbar is not an option for me (it breaks the restart menu) and neither is xposed (tripping safety net).
Listen me out: xposed is temporary, it will be removed later on!
So here it goes:
Additional step: idk if this is necessary, I did it and it worked:
Download a build.prop editor and modify this line "#qemu.hw.mainkeys=0"
Don't forget to remove the hashtag, and change 0 into 1
1) Install magisk and download systemless xposed throught magisk. (sdk 25, of course)
2) Don't forget to install xposed installer.apk
3) Reboot
4) Download gravity box nougat through the xposed installer app, enable it.
5) Open gravity box, In 'navigation bar tweaks' turn on the master switch and then turn 'enable navigation bar' off.
Optional: go to media settings and force media volume, this always pisses me off...
6) Reboot
7) Go to settings, buttons, and now a setting to disable the navigation bar magically appeared! Turn it off. IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THE SCREENSHOT ATTACHED
8) Have some fun playing with the "capacitive keys backlight" option even though your 5t doesn't have any.
9) Disable xposed framework in magisk
10) Reboot, the navbar should be gone (if not, tell me, there is an additional step that might be necessary, but i prefer to don't have people messing with their build.prop) then check safety net, and install swipe navigation (can be tricky without navbar ). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation
Let me know if it works!

I did like you suggested and it worked! Thanks! After disabling the navigation bar in GravityBox I rebooted my phone and opened up the phone's settings menu and voila. Now I have a button to disable/enable navigation bar. I uninstalled gravity box and xposed and my phone still passes safetynet. Two screenshots below:

Yeah, it was from the begining. Was there an other one while the GravityBox was installed and after uninstalling it the option to turn on/off the navigation bar also vanished? I tested it a couple of times on and off and didn't even notice it had gone when I took the screenshot.
I guess I would have to install xposed/GravityBox again to get the navigation bar back if for some reason I wanted it?

With gravity box go to navigation bar tweaks, turn master switch on and go all the way to the bottom to adjust height

Works like a charm, but if you disable Xposed framework afterwards, the hight will be 100% again...

Nope, it's not that setting.
Once you disable the navbar in gravitybox the 'buttons settings menu' changes to the Oneplus 5 one, very funny.
I should've taken a screenshot of it.
If this doesn't work for you, then download a build.prop editor and modify this line "#qemu.hw.mainkeys=0"
Don't forget to remove the hashtag, and change 0 in 1
After doing this, follow the guide again, then the OP5 settings should appear in settings => buttons

Yeah, this only works if you turn the navigation bar off in settings when xposed is installed, I'll provide a screenshot soon.

Here it is, if you don't get this follow all the steps again, I'll add an additional step just to be sure.

hey everyone this is my first windows/HTC phone and it's the tmobile wing. i have a few quick questions that are probably followed by a lot more...
1. is there any shortcut to lock the phone without having to press the lock button?
2. is there anyway to get rid of t-zones? i think you need to edit the registry but what should i use to do that?
3. is there a way i can change the calendar shortcut on main screen?
4. my alarm clock is not repeating itself. i set it as repeat sound but it's not doing it. any ideas?
5. where should i go to download more apps/games?
6. will the screen ever go black? if the phone is idling the brightness just turns off but all my old phones it would turn black
7. can't install activesync on computer. keep getting this error

Aaaahhhh! So many questions, my head's going to explode!
I don't have a wing, but all your questions are pretty basic and something you SHOULD be able to figure out by just playing around with the phone, reading the manual and reading the Herald forums. I'll just give you some good or possibly bad advice here.
1. My sure-fire method to lock my phone? Hit the power button. Locked.
2. I'm not sure if you're asking about the T-Zones app, or the T-Zones connection. Please clarify.
3. Are you asking how to remove the calendar from your mainscreen? If so, Start -> Settings -> Today -> Items (lower tab) -> uncheck "Calendar".
4. No ideas there. I never use it.
5. More apps, games? Lots of them here. Even more here.
6. Not sure about the Wing, but with the Wizard and Hermes it will dim then go black. Maybe you're not giving it enough time?
7. Scrap the install CD. Just download Activesync from Microsoft.
(Just a side note to #7. To fix your Flash problem, download and install this, reboot, then redownload and install Flash from here) Voila!
Have fun!
P.S. This one was a "gimme". Next time, please make an effort to find your own answers to such simple questions.
thanks for the quick response. sorry for the silly questions, first time i've ever owned a smartphone. use to have experience flashing/flexing motos, but this is a different story
anyways
1. what exactly does clicking the power button do? it seems to make the screen go black and "locks" the phone
2. well i don't use tzones i just want to get rid of it from bottom right of screen, the tray. searched the forums a little and pple say you need to change the registry but i am not sure what to use to edit the registry. any suggestions?
3. nope i'm trying to get rid of the soft/smart key shortcut button. already got it off the menu so that didn't really help
4. anyone else?
5. lol i assume i just search for WM6 games/apps?
6. i give it enough time...30 minutes later screen still isn't black. what exactly is "Wizard and Hermes"? and your answer to #1 kinda solves the problem but yea still would like answers to #1 and to #6 that i just wrote
7. didn't work guess i'll try to download/install directly

No worries about the questions. We all have to start somewhere. Just remember to check out FAQs up top. You'll find some general guidelines about the site there.
Okay, let's keep this number pattern going, it's easy.
1. Hitting the power button puts your device in "standby". A phone call, alarm, reminder, or whatever will still wake it up for you.
2. PHM Registry Editor is super easy to use.
3. You can remap button behavior by clicking Start -> Settings -> Buttons.
4. uhhh....
5. Exactly!
6. Try this, Start -> Settings -> Power -> "Advanced tab", then set when to turn the device off. It sounds like your backlight is going off, but your device isn't, but should shortly after.
7. Darn
1. awesome this makes it easy to put into my pocket
2. will try that out after i got activesync working
3. still no. it's the bottom left shortcut key. that button wasn't listed
4. do you know any other alarm programs?
5. lol yay
6. ahhhh i turned that off myself. when it said "turn off" what i thought was like the phone actually turns off. it just puts it in standby so all is good
7. just installed it directly from ms need to restart i'll try it tmr and update you on it
okay i can't install PHM Registry Editor. tried running the setup but it's not appearing in activesync. any ideas?

Actually, under Settings -> System -> Key lock you can set it to wake up on just the power button or by any button press.
i just decided to go with the standby power button mode. it works fine. i still can't get rid of t-zones from the tray. please refer to my post in this thread

On Screen Soft key buttons on Stock Samsung Rom

So I made a mod to enable the on screen soft key nav to cm 10.
Someone found out if you add this line qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to the build prop you will get on screen nav like the galaxy nexus.
well for ****s and giggles I tried adding this line to a samsung based rom (LG8) and it worked! I guess samsung did not disable this functionality. I was pretty sure I read this couldnt be done on a stock samsung rom

I use nova launcher
I also noticed that once you enable it a long press of the physical home button (or softkey button) now brings up search instead of recents/task manager
Also, Settings > Display > Touch key light duration : Always off
It would be nice to disable the hardware buttons. (Or swap them ... which would be my dream!)

put a hash tag in front of the lines
key 139 menu

save and reboot.
To re enable just edit the file again and remove the comment (hash tag)
Using Phone Logs/Favourites/Camera is slightly hindered, the menu bar moves over the actual app screen. I'm wondering if the CM10 version does that?

Android system dies not recognize the lack of a menu button and therefore applications do not show the menu key (usually three dots) making many apps unusable

it did for me. When I disabled both cap buttons and if there was an app that doesnt implement the new standard menu within the app, a menu button was placed on my NAV bar on the left..
I saw your reply in your thread about it half working when you map it to APP_Switch and that makes sense because the button is not disabled, just remapped so TW must still think there is a menu button but if you completely disable the cap buttons then the system does recognize there is no menu key
So you're half working comment in this thread doesnt apply. It does work if you completely disable both buttons not remap the menu button.

As for the UI querks someone will have to play around with it to see if they can get the overlapping stuff fixed. I'm using Nova launcher prime and I saw a weird glitch in the call log section where things didnt resize properly because of the menu key being placed at top

Yeah it seems to jack up the formatting of the screens on TW apps. I reverted back for now but I'm sure it would look the same as yours. It doesnt seem like the TW apps resize themselves... but now I'm thinking.... hmmm I know an issue with lowering the lcd density will cause TW apps to get jacked up in a similar way, I wonder if they would look right if you lowered the lcd density while the soft keys are enabled. try lowering it to like 240 and see how the TW apps look I would try it now but I have to finish studying for an exam I have in a couple hours.

ok, I tested lowering the DPI to 240 it did fix the call log and a couple other screens where there was overlapping, with the lower dpi the camera buttons you can use although dont look too pretty, and the dialer keypad being smaller due to the lower dpi is there. I will keep playing around with stuff tonight to see if I can get it to look right with the mod.

Xposed Module Recommendations for S7 Edge

Quick question for everyone that has installed xposed on their s7 edge - I'm looking for recommendations on modules to use...
I'm coming from a Sony Z3 compact so not sure if there are any must-have modules that people typically use for Samsung...
1. Anyone try Gravitybox on S7 Edge yet? Or should I stick to the one provided by Wanam
2. Any other recommendations for modules?
Thanks in advance!
I found "XTouchWiz" to be the most useful if you haven't tried it yet

Thanks for all the info - do you have a short list of the tweaks in gravitybox that doesn't work?
Reasonably long list incoming;
CrappaLinks - Fixes link clicking
Disable Instagram Double Tap - what it says on the tin
GravityBox - Needs no description
MinMinGuard - Ad blocker
NoSafeVolumeWarning - Doesn't appear to work
RootCloak - Again, what it says on the tin
Swiftkey Goodness on More Fields - more swiftkey predictions
XInsta - Download IG photos
Xposed Additions - Reprogram buttons - Very useful, I use double click power to toggle my bedroom lights
YouTube AdAway - Guess
Youtube Background Playback - Great tool
Zoom For Instagram - Again pretty self explanatory.

Most of the things I've chosen appear to work fine.
I have more in my sgs5, but now in this working :

After putting in gravitybox (and enabling a few tweaks - including updating the long press behavior of the back button) - I noticed that vibrate for my capacitive buttons have stopped working (even though it is enabled in the settings).
I also noticed that when using gravitybox, I ended up seeing 2 "PM"s appended to the end of my time, I had to manually hide it in.
Can any one confirm similar findings?
FYI - I do have xtouchwiz and gravitybox enabled at the same time....

Gravitybox puts its own pm and touchwiz puts the other pm, you have to disable one of them.
I remember having a rom with a built in center clock, then enabling another center clock with gravitybox... guess how many clocks i had?

silly me..
That being said - does anyone know of a good module to disable the led notification after a certain time?

I just need to ask. Now I'm on EchoeRom v4, on previous versions of this ROM when I've installed Xposed from time to time phone just reboot even when it was laying on the desk. It was because of the Xposed or not? Anyone noticed it? By the way: what ROM are you using?

Anyone have a working .some Google Phone Dialer ?

I prefer the stock Google Phone dialer over all others. I tried to install several different .APK from the website with all the Google Phone downloads. But none of them would install or work.
I've been running Google Dialer with LG G6 for a couple of weeks... here's what I did...
1. Install the APK from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-google-dialer-t3557412
2. After installation, go into Settings, General, Phone Management, Apps.
3. Click the three dots menu and select Configure Apps.
4. Select Phone App, and change that over to the Phone with the blue background (the alternative is LG's Contacts) and click OK.
5. Click on the Special Access at the bottom of that screen. Select Modify System Settings and find the Phone app. Grant it rights to modify system settings.
6. I like to explicitly grant the phone app permissions now, rather than waiting for it later. So I granted all permissions up-front. Back out to the Apps screen and find the Phone app. Click permissions and flip the slider to the right to enable all permissions.
7. Launch the phone app and sign-in to your google account.
You may want to swap out the phone on the lock-screen and launcher as well...

I have not been able to swap out the phone shortcut on the lockscreen unfortunately. It seems the stock phone app is a default that can't be changed.
Thanks for the guide by the way. The stock phone app was aweful. Any way to get the Google contacts app too?

I have the APKMirror install of Google Dialer working just fine. Didn't run into the issue with dialer disappearing. However, I installed the Dialer from the XDA Forum that I referred to in a previous post.

I was able to swap out the phone by going to Settings, Display, Lock Screen, Shortcuts. From there tap on the phone icon (defaults to the far left) and an app list pops up. You need to select the "Phone" app with the blue icon - the green one is the LG-native phone app.
Thanks for the quick guide , it worked great. Finding it slightly sluggish for some reason though
The lock screen shortcut option only appears if you disable screen pin/fingerprint
Thanks, works great!
I am unable to change that default phone shortcut on the lockscreen no matter what I do.
I've always used Google Dialer v3.xxxx rc4 (forget the exact version but it's 3.something rc4), which is the latest version that is able to properly look up phone numbers of places by name on all my non-Nexus/Pixel devices

Hey Gewecht what colour is your in call back ground? I have a LG G6 I get a quick flash of the nice Google blue then it turns a not so nice Turquoise green.
I tried the work around in the Google Dialer main post but no luck as the G6 has no option to change the sim back ground colour. I'm guessing the only way is to disable the stock phone app which the option is greyed out!!
Cheers.

You go to the Settings app, go to Display settings, tap on App Scaling, find the app (it would be in 16:7.9 aspect ration) and tap it, and thusly make it a forced 18:9 aspect ratio. After this, your application should be formatted to support the LG G6's 18:9 display. Trust me, I had to do this with Lawnchair Launcher and a Pixel 2 Launcher (mod) in order to get it to all fit. I hope this helps you ??.

TS10 - No sound from Navigation App

Hello guys,
I am using TS10 (Model with eight cores and 8 GB RAM), everything was working fine, but a problem appeared a few days ago.
There is no sound from any Navigation app (alerts, route directions, etc.).
The music is getting volume gets low when the Navigation app is trying to reproduce a sound, and after that, it gets to the average level as it should be, and this way was working fine.
However, the problem is that there is no sound from the navigation app.
Is there a way to fix that?
The model that I am using: (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000575734624.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.8b0118029doI2H)

Hi,
So the problem is in Settings > Navigation app.
When I select an app that should be used for Navigation as default, the app I choose has no sound.
I tried Waze and Google Maps, and iGO:
When I select Waze as a default navigation application - Google Maps have sound and works great.
The opposite is when I select Google Maps as a default navigation application - Waze has sound and works great.
For a test, I tried to select YouTube as a Navigation, and it also had no sound when I opened it.
So the problem is the default navigation app in Settings.
Is there a way to fix that?
Thank you!

Hey, this usually happens when you try to open the app directly from it's icon
You should have a navigation icon that will redirect you to WAZE , and then it will work with sound

Unfortunately, no.
When I set a default app for navigation, it opens as you say from the Navi icon, but there is no sound.

You should look into the settings. Somewhere should be a setting to set the volume of the navigation.

I completely understand you, however the volume of Navi is set to max.
It was working fine a week ago, but something changed, maybe a bug.
Try writing in waze search ##@resetapp
Here is a video demonstration of the problem - setting different apps as a default Navi app, and they lost their sound also.
My seller suggested restoring the factory settings, and when I did that, the problem was solved for around 30 minutes.
After that, it appeared again.
I've got similar problem. Have you tried update firmware? You don't have newest possible. There is FW from November
I use OSMand in mine. I had no sound at all, but I noticed an error message "cannot initialise Speech". This lead me to go into Google Play and install the Google-tts service for my language. Since then, I have announcements. In fact I had so many announcements I had to disable most of them so I could hear the music.

Yes, I am using the latest TS10 update. It is interesting that after a factory reset, it worked for around 20-30 mins, and then it bugged again.

Go to Android settings -> Apps and notifications -> Advanced -> Apps with special permissions -> Access to notifications -> Uncheck "Google" option.
For some reason that service has broken notification chanel in Android sound output

Interesting.
One another attempt to access to "Access to notifications" menu:
1. Install Google
2. Install "Heads - up notifications" and open it:
Heads-up Notifications - Apps on Google Play
Get the new heads-up notifications from Android Lollipop on any device!
play.google.com
3. Click green button "Turn on/off notifications"
4. It should open lost menu where you will be able uncheck "Google" option.
5. Uninstall "Heads-up notifications" app, you don't need it anymore
