Low light - Honor View 10 Real Life Review

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the Honor V10's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.

20MP+16MP dual camera and IR blaster?
It seems this new Honor V10 is equiped with 20MP + 16 MP dual camera, and it has IR blaster? Really interested in it.

At the Honor 9 lite launch event at New Delhi, India, the Honor India team confirmed that the EIS feature is in works for 1080p & 4k videos and would be provided through a OTA. That would help in the low light video capture.

for the Honor 9 lite (as you mentioning) or the Honor 10 view ?

The view 10 will get the EIS feature. I just confirmed this when I went to the Honor 9 lite launch.

Night shots are great in this phone. The best phone I have used so far

are you serious about this? And are you sure the Honor team referring the EIS update for Honor View10 or for the Honor 9 Lite? .. as it is the launching event of Honor 9 lite. Cuz this could be the game-changer for this awesome beast phone. I really want to buy this phone as it costs much lower than the other smartphone in its budget segment but the un-availability of EIS really put me off from the decision ( to buy whether this phone or Oneplus 5T ).

The Honor team recognized lack of EIS as a negative for the view 10 and said that they're working on an EIS feature for at least 1080p video.

Then why they are officially not confirming ? I contact them they thay said there is no official info like this

It is not officially disclosed as of now. The people at Honor know that EIS is a big deal when you put the phone next to the OnePlus 5T and they have acknowledged the lack there of. They're working on many things at the moment (more scene recognition options in the camera, more AI features, etc) that they cannot provide ETA for EIS, which people start along once a company promises them some feature. It is in works along with other features and I hope they pull it off.

Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus - 6GB RAM, Triple Cameras

Hello! Xiaomi Mi5s Plus was launched recently and here are the features: 5.7-inch FHD Screen, Snapdragon 821 CPU, 6GB RAM, and Triple cameras with two rear cameras (source: http://www.chinaphonereview.com/xiaomi-mi5s-plus).
The dual rear cameras is a unique characteristic in which it features a 13MP colored camera and a 13MP black & white camera. I'm not sure how this would translate. But I'm certain the 6GB RAM and Snapdragon 821 processor would definitely provide an excellent performance.
Any thoughts on this smartphone?
If a decent developer community forms and this gets the ability to work on Verizon then I'm sold. But I have to hold out hopes that the Mi5 progress keeps advancing and can easily translate to this device.

Be careful, the mi5s plus cameras are old sony imx258 and not the new imx378 on the mi5s. Also the mi5s plus lacks of ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Yah, they gimped the plus so much.. if you like larger phones, neither are good buys. If the plus had 2 x imx378 and ultrasonic, best phone in the world easily, by hardware.
The pixel phones use the imx378, I believe, and the pixel is rated best camera phone by DxO (take with grain of salt as they're apparently biased), but it still shows the prowess of the imx378.
Would the dual rear cameras make any difference in terms of picture quality? How can the additional black & white camera help?
Just got this phone today.
It is amazing fast, super high performance.
With default setup, it can have 4G RAM free
However, it only have chinese stock rom at this moment.

Well, sadly enough that the imx378's sensor is large and I assumed that is why the dual camera setup with that sensor is not achievable.
Same goes to OIS, most probably due to sensor size issues. (Pixel phones have no OIS thou)

From what I've read, but I'm not an expert, the B&W camera should be capable of capturing more light.
So combining images from both cameras it should capture better pictures on low light conditions.

I have it and for me there's 2 things that I don't like. MIUI 8 , I'm a stock Android guy I hope somebody bring cm or something like this to this mobile and the other thing it's the camera, it's a camera for me from the beginning of 2015, that perform well in optimal light conditions and in low light even with the stereo option it's not very well.
Conclusion, I'm not a photo guy so there's no problem but I can't support miui even that it runs fast in this mobile. So until we have some development to this mobile I'm going to stay whit my axon 7.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Xiaomi Mi 5X come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
anyone can share their photos? How's the camera performance?
I have this device for testing purposes.
Can tell the camera is not that good. Pics are blurry and HDR mode is not on point.
Selfie cam almost does a better job than dual lens.
I heard and saw all kind of stuffs regarding the camera on reviews, from opinions (and photos and videos) where you can see the camera sucks to others where you see a great camera quality. This obviously will depend as well on the experience of the user.
I specially saw the camera seems to be very bad when trying to capture objects in movement.
It would be good if experienced people could share objective opinions of the camera on all the conditions.
Let's say the quality you get is absolutely random. Some shots will be good, others bad... it's mostly average.
Overall there's a lack of sharpness.

i just want to stay with moto g5s plus because i know we will have some BOOM upgrades in near future
I just got my MI A1 as an upgrade for my 4 years old Nexus 5 daily driver. First impressions in Daylight the MI A1 outperforms the Nexus 5, but in low light the lack of OIS and relatively small 1.25 um pixel size means the A1 struggles a lot. Even getting a sharp focus is slow comparing with my Nexus 6P which has laser autofocus.
In comparison my Nexus 5 has OIS and 1.4 um pixels, and my Nexus 6P has 1.55 um pixels.
Taking into account the cost of the MI A1 however, this phone is a tip top performer and I have no compliants for what I paid. Very happy with it.

outdoor camera is acceptable also when you use 2x zoom, but indoor very poor, so many noise and lack of sharpness
Yeah, acceptable but not tip top performing.
I mean, the Mi 5X/ Mi A1 is good for taking photo of people, but average quality is poor and outdoor result like landscape with HDR definitely bad. In HHT the camera sucks.
bad really bad camera
as a mi 5x user i can confirm this is the most accurate answer

Honestly... It sucks. Hope it gets better with time and Gcam. I have an S10e and its camera in low light fcking kick ass
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (Indian Variant with Samsung GM2/48 MP) has turned out to be a real disappointment for me in terms of low light or night time photography department. I don't care about daytime clicks but it's a let down for night photos. Redmi note 8 with the same sensor sees everything at night, you can take highly sensitive night clicks even at total dark albeit with a little more noise but note 9 pro even cannot see in darkness like note 8, man it's like blind and pictures come out like it has a black curtain all over the lens ... why? I can't even believe it's with f/1.8 aperture. It seems like image has come out of f/2.8 lens not with f/1.8 lens as it's in the specification. Folks, do not buy it if you are expecting bright night photos out of it like redmi note 8 or Mi A3 even with GCam. I rate it's camera 2 stars for low light pictures. Really disappointed and I want Xiaomi's answer or reason for this ...
Low light photo sucks, but Gcam (in my test PixelCam) takes awesome low light photos

But as I can see in their site it's for Note 8 Pro.
It work with Note 9S? The xml is compatible?
Folks! Note 9S/Pro and probably Pro Max can't properly see in the full darkness like Mi A3 or even Redmi Note 8. It needs light to see properly. A big let down for Night Photography when you compare much capable or upgraded hardware of Note 9S/pro. Check an attachment (Reduced) or a link (Large size) for extreme low light seen captured by these 3 devices mentioned here. Let me know which picture you guys liked.

Low light on this phone lowkey sucks. It is not as blind as my previous phones, but it is not great.
Hint: Go to pro mode and increase the EV to max. Quality will be crap, but at least you will be able to see things.
Decreasing shutter speed also helps but it is only a visual change. The phone does not actually take the picture with that shutter speed.

When compared to the regular S20 I noticed photos are often overexposed, so it loses detail in the white parts of the photo.
I noticed this in every photo comparison review.
I guess it's just a software thing, but Samsung needs to fix this.

Yeah, that seems to be a Samsung trait. It's really annoying. I'm looking to get a new phone, and Samsung have some great specced phones, but their photo processing steers me away. I gave up n my S10+ because of it, and went back to my pixel 3
Here's another comparison with the pixel 5, almost all photos and videos looks (imho) way better on the pixel 5.

Google builds a cheaper phone with cheaper hardware including lenses and yet, the results are better.
Samsung really needs to step up a notch!

The worse thing that you can do it's to switch from a p30 pro which it's the camera killer to this Samsung that it's having awful photo quality... You didn't show us some comparisons between this 2 devices.. i am and have been a huge Huawei P30 Pro fan but i am not sure if your statement is correct...
Sure yes, that P30 Pro is a real killer but the s20 fe is really very good too! The pictures can't really be compared - sometimes the P30 Pro wins and sometimes and yet sometimes more often the S20 fe wins.
but it always depends on your own preferences, i agree with you. i am currently very enthusiastic about the s20 fe.

Well I've got my old P20 Pro here, a 5G S20 FE and a Mi 10T Pro and guess which one still 'subjectively' takes far clearer and defined - if a little overly processed - pictures? Yeah it's the one released in March 2018
According to GSMarena the P30 Pro uses the same main sensor which is pretty abysmal for low light videoing so that is why I have avoided it. Oh and the low light recording is pretty terrible (on par with my P20 Pro) but is absolutely outstanding on the Mi10 Pro (pictures are pretty average though even with that big sensor)
I have taken a few pictures, quality seems OK, maybe change some settings to get the wow factor
The pictures are very nice. I came from a mi9 with a 48mp cam but the 12mp of the Samsung gives at least the same quality and even better because of the ois
That's strange. I came from Mi 9 also and while there is more detail on photos took on S20 there is also more noise and colors are bit strange, unnatural. Colors on Mi 9 are much more realistic.
Also a lot of times I do get grainy photos with a lot of noise on S20 FE.
Pretty bad. I have exynos version.
After 40 days of use,
Coming from a Pixel 3a, im disappointed from the main camera, specially at night.
Exynos version, i get oversaturated yellows and oranges (with the AI enhance off), generally saturation is up giving unnatural colors and at low light:
1) it takes 1,5-4 sec for a photo, so forget any moving objects
2) Phone actually "freezes" while processing the nightshot, instead of doing the post-processing in the background, takes 2-5 sec to finish.
3) The depth of field is not that great.
4) I need to bring down exposure all the time, or my highlights are usually blown.
Tele 3X is just ok, ultrwide, i have seen better distortion correction, both have same saturation thing as above.
