Get hot quickly? Maybe some ****ty app is hogging CPU or some kind of malware like app? If not than take it to seller if you have warranty, well if you have warranty just take phone to shop.

If your LG K8 (2017) is lagging then simply do a Factory Reset since that's the only way to fix it.
That's what I did and it already works normally, it also doesn't take long anymore to update/install apps.

[Q] LG G2 Battery/CPU Overheating During Miracast with Streaming Video

Edited 2/11/2014. I am running Sprint ZVA, stock. Removed "sprint variant" from title due to a tmobile report as well of same issue.
Have found a problem with my G2 that only seems to occur when running miracast. I recently purchased the tronsmart t1000 to miracast from my G2 5o my Sony bravia tv. Now the tronsmart runs the Ezcast app available from the Google play store.
When activating miracast you use the ezcast app. However once connected you can exit from the app. It does not run in the background. The miracast service is on, wifi remains on but the phone data connection is what is being used. Everything is fine but when I run a video app be it Netflix, crackle, or any other my phone (via battery monitor) reaches 48°C within about 10-15 minutes of streaming. Video performance begins to suffer at that point and lags, stutters, etc.
I have disabled every background service I can think of. No syncs, no gps or location services on. I am running stock zv9, bebloated (frozen via titanium), rooted. I had the same issue on zv8. I have also used the screen off app to eliminate extra heat from the screen being on during casting.
I will note that I had this same problem before I even rooted my phone and debloated it on the stock zv8 rom.
I have contacted the ezcast folks in china but they say their tests with G2 do not overheat although they cant test netflix and the like because of being in a different country. I contacted netflix to see if I could report the problem and they acted like useless tools. One rep even told me that LG writes the netflix app so I need to report it to LG... lmao.
So, Im turning to xda to see if maybe others have this problem or know of a fix. Im glad to provide what info I can if it hasnt already been covered. In my research Ive found the thermal throttling doesnt kick in and sut down the phone till about 55°c or so. Im certain the phone is getting close enuff to 50°c that I need to be concerned about long term damage to my G2 if this continues.
Ill add that even during dlna streaming the phone is getting hot but not as bad as miracasting. The phone also gets up around 45°c when using a slimport. I really would like to figure this out. I do have best buy return coverage for my phone but would like to avoid swapping it and having to pay $150 to do so.
Does anyone have this problem or know how to correct it?
Well if it's the CPU then don't worry that much. 55 degrees is a safe operating temperature. If it's the battery temperature then you're ****ed, so I'm quite sure it's the CPU temperature .
You don't really have many options other than cooling down your phone while miracasting using a fan or whatever you have avaliable. As for the lagging/stuttering it's because the phone starts throttling down in order to avoid very high temperatures. If you cool down your phone, the lag would go away but you can also disable thermal throttling from the hidden menu (which will cause your CPU temperature to skyrocket).
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Im using batt monitor widget. It said 50°c last night on a second go around with absolutely every background service stopped. If I was to disable that throttle via hidden menu, then my phone would surely fry. So I appreciate the idea, and read that whole thread before I posted here, but its probably not adviseable for my situation to let the phone get hotter than it is now.
Edit on my first post. I did mean Im on ZVA now, not zv9. It was a late night last night. lol.
Well I wrote to LG tech support outlining my issue. Havent heard back. I did try to run my wife's htc one with my miracast setup. While streaming her netflix via miracast the phone reached 40°C and was stuttering a bit, but it didnt get any hotter. I let her htc one cool down and launced crackle, and hulu plus and her phone never went over 37.9°C.
Leads me to believe that this is caused by a couple of factors. Maybe something in the netflix app in combination with the G2's miracast functionality. All I know is that netflix streams hotter, but other video apps run almost as hot on my G2.
I could really use some advice from a battery or cpu guru cause Im at a loss here.

Since you're rooted why don't you throw a kernel with kernel tuner and knock the processor clock speed down while you're streaming. I know you shouldn't have to, but you may need to. Running it at say 1.2 - 1.5 ghz should still run fine and keep it cooler.

I could certainly try but Ive never implemented anything like that before. Not quite sure I have enough knowledge. Is there a resource in plain english that a beginner on that road would understand?
Id rather not have to go that route. I usually stick mostly to stock except for a few tweaks here and there. Im not opposed to learning tho.
Im suprised Im the only one this is happening to. There must be others miracasting netflix and such. I was hoping for a simple fix. I dont think Ill have such luck.
I miracast to my vizio stock(only rooted) to stock (tv), no third party hardware or software, no high heat...

Thanks steamer. Im really starting to think Im alone here. Guess Ill have to figure out if it software related. My project in a few days will likely be running a .tot. Heard back from LG. They suggest sending phone in for warranty repair. However I do have geeksquad coverage thru best buy so I may go that route. If it still overheats after reverting back to factory stock then I know its hardware related and will be able to hand my phone over for warranty.
I did get my phone the day it came out. Maybe I got a lemon.
Can I get some opinions/thoughts on wether the furnace kernel by savoca or dorimanx kernel would possibly help my situation or make it worse?
This happened to me on my t mobile g2 the first hour I powered it on it was roasting my hand but when I went to settings and viewed what's draining the battery it was Bloatwear. So I rooted and used titanium backup to defeat them. A neat app to view what's running is memory booster then I Google search safe Bloatwear to delete and if it's OK I get rid of it. My T-Mobile g2 got glitch tho but when I got the d802 international version with no T-Mobile Bloatwear it didn't heat up at all

Thanks, but Ive been there already. I use titanium and have froze all the bloatware. It makes no difference. I think im gonna try a .tot. I cant seem to get much help on this.
Well another update, kinda feel like Im talking to myself here... lol.
Restored to factory zv7 by doing a .tot and stayed unrooted without making any modifications. Pure Sprint G2. Downloaded the ezcast app and netflix only. Tried to miracast and phone still overheated. So now I know its gotta be either the ezcast software for the tronsmart dongle, netflix app, some kind of wifi bug, or a hardware issue.
Gonna leave the phone as is and head to bestbuy tomorrow and see about a warranty replacement. Only thing I can think of is I got one of those G2 that had thermal issues on release day. I know I heard more than a few reports back then but didnt think I had a problem. Not till now anyways.
If anyone has any other ideas tho please chime in. Ill update again if I get a new G2. We shall see.

You aren't alone!! I just purchased a G2 from T Mobile last week & had exactly the same problem. I am using a Netgear P2TV3000 receiver. I've found that the phone heats up while connected via Miracast if I'm using other apps, just not as bad as it does w/ Netflix. I emailed LG about the problem & they said it was not a known issue & suggested taking it back to T Mobile. I did that yesterday & they gave me a new one. I took it home & tested it out...same problem. So I've given up & will be taking it back to return it for a completely different phone, probably a Galaxy S4. I'm really disappointed bec I really liked this phone. But Miracast not working properly is a deal-breaker for me.
Glad to see Im not alone and its not just a sprint variant issue. Thanks for your post. Actually at best buy now and they are still deciding what 5o so. Their cell expert hasnt got a clue either. Everything he thought of I was like... been there done that.
Edit: That was a useless exercise in futility. Bestbuy said their service center would likely send the phone back to me.saying that this overheating is within normal operation.... HOW? Cause their people will not take the the time to actually test the miracasting. So Im stuck dealing with LG and a warranty replacement, if they will even do anything.
Please, anyone with miracast dongles... would you check and see if you can recreate my problem? Simply stream netflix via miracast via your mobile connection. Not wifi. Thanks if you are willing to test. Within about 15-20 mins you should see your temp spike. 30 mins in you will be near 48-50°c.
Id like to see if this is a more common issue.

What version of Android are you running? Both phones I've had this problem with were running 4.2.2. I've talked to several people who have no problems like this but they're running 4.3. It makes me think 4.2.2 is the culprit. Tell me you're running 4.2.2!

Well stock lg g2 is 4.2.2 so yes.
Mine got hot enough charging + miracast netflix that it began to heavily stutter and slow to a complete stop. I didn't realize how hot it was until I picked it up to close netflix. It was throttling enough that I had to restart the phone just to do anything.
Thats pretty much the exact behavior I have seen. Did you happen to check the battery temp? Which carrier are you on?

Unfortunately I didn't get to check them. By then, my phone was lagging so bad, all I could do was restart. By the time it restarted and I got a battery temp monitor downloaded, it was at 44. I'm on AT&T. Stock rooted rom.

Were you using a dongle as well? Seems casting from phone to a device like a tv with miracast built in may not cause issues but Im not certain of that yet.
Im wondering if the impending kit kat update will eliminate this problem. I have a repair auth from LG right now, but Ive been holding off sending my phone in. LG says this is not a known issue. Id advise anyone that does have this overheating issue though to report it to LG.

Lag!

In the past few days I have went from the Z5 compact, then upgrading from the compact to the Z5. One serious issue with both devices is lag! My previous device was the Lg G3 and it was far smoother then this so called upgrade. Also, the camera had more detail on old G3. Whats going on, is this issue relate to everyone?
Typical Sony release firmware, it will get better with updates
My blade s6 felt smoother, somethings wrong I'll post a video up later it's lagging on simple things like swiping from home screens
My home screen is fine. I experinece lag when closing apps and opening the camera. Hope this gets fixed soon or I will be going with the G4
You should restore original config
I tried a factory reset when I had the Z5 Compact. Don't think its worth trying on the Z5 also lol
Does this phone also lag when scrolling in apps or browsing the web?
Man i have the G3 too, I'm scared to upgrade now. The G3 has been a great phone ,that is why I returned my Moto X pure because it did not feel like much of an upgrade besides the front speakers. I was so close on ordering the Z5 through amazon. Guess I'll wait for the Lumina 950XL with it's liquid cooled 810(like that'll matter)
When browsing I get the Odd stutter
Other apps seem fine tho..

The thing is we shouldn't need to uninstall anything it's a 810 with 3gig it should be snappy as hell
The strangest thing has happened. The phone is now suddenly smooth! No idea why, but there you go lol.
yea each phone Needs to settle at first, especially when you synced all stuff and the System Needs to create The art files...therefore after full sync and redownload of all apps rebooting helps really !
I am guessing its the SD810. Also my Z4 tablet is lagging a lot. My Z3 Compact tablet is much smoother.

It was smooth for a few hours, but the lag has returned again :/
Camera isn't as sharp as my old G3 which I'm annoyed about as I got the upgrade to have a better camera for my son coming
along.
I expected maybe a few small bugs as the phone is only out, but nothing as bad as this is.

Dam that's not good. I used to have a G3 too so I was looking for my next phone to be an improvement.
Hmm, do you expect it to get smoother after software updates or do you think it lags because of the 810?

yes , I have never installed CUSTOM ROM
same issue
I have this same issue on my d801. Upgraded to lollipop and even installed a mod 13 and no change. I have it back to stock kitkat now. It seems that the more color in the screen the worst it gets. Does anyone know what is causing this? the motherboard or digitizer

Are you sure that is stock Android on your K8?
There is not any root method at least not here, only for 2016 model, I doubt it will work with 2017, it will probably harm device.
However it can be possible that phone is lagging it's not flagship but it's not weak device my 2016 K8 works very well. Would you mind to explain lag and when it happened?

Its not exactly stock android but the design kind of is. My mom is using the k8 2016 and its way faster than my 2017 version. i figured out the lag issue is because android system itself is taking up 800 mb (this is without me installing anything at all. basically after i formatted i checked and it was 800 mb) and the ram is 1.4 gb so only 400 ish mb remains or 500 which makes it really slow. Also sorry for the really fast reply :3 didn't have an internet connection for a while.

I don't think I understand you or you don't understand something. I have 2016. K8 and system is taking up 2.6 GB and I have 1.5 GB of RAM so not ever will all system will go in RAM it's not even possible. Are you talking about 800 mb of RAM is taken by system? 700 MB is fine for apps except ones who need a large chunk of RAM, but even then Android will push out something out of RAM to make place for that app. Check for OTA updates, i still doubt phone is lagging, I mean it is budget phone but still..

To be honest I think something isn't right here. Because that is not how LG phone tiles look like, indeed this look like pure Android without UX on top of it, I don't know if LG started shipping phones with pure Android on them or is something else, would you mind go to settings and take screenshot of software info page?
However on these screenshots you provided it's average use in last x hours(to me there shows that chrome use 2.9 GB which is not possible), to see current go to developer options and to "running services.
It is K8 2017, idk why LG decided using stock-ish UI instead UX4.0/5.0 like K10 2017. It has the same (if not better) spect as 2016 version, and I don't know what causes the lag. Either some junk app/screen overlay app/bad software optimization.
From my experience, 2016 version has performance problem with some screen overlay apps like easy touch, bluelight filter, etc. But even on low ram apps still runs quite smooth.

Yeah I see, I did some digging and in YouTube there is two kinds one with UX and one without it, maybe I'm mistaking maybe both are stock I'm not sure how nougat under UX looks like. However they released k8 2017 and mediatek version runs nougat as I can understand (Russian edition and some other countries) and qcom versions runs nougat. LG never fails to amaze me with their actions, I mean seriously?
Any update in this tread? I've bought k8 2017 just a few hours ago. Besides the lag it also have this pop up ads which i cant get rid of even after removing their free apps.

Wait, so you bought brand new phone and it started to show popup ads, you didn't install any apps? I can't believe what some carriers do to the phones. Wait what stock browser? LG browser? I didn't seen it a long time on LG phones the seems to be moved to chrome. If it isn't new than you should flash stock firmware. In which country phone was bought, and what is exact phone model number?

Model number: LG-X240k .I don't think it's the carrier's fault because I bought the phone in an LG store it self. The UI is the same as op. I also notice that Android OS (Android 6.0) takes about 900mb~ of memory without any running apps I have J5 prime with the same os only take about 300-400mb.

Well you are right it's not up to carrier because you didn't bought phone from them so it's not under contract. It seems they have ****ed up heavily.
Don't look on that, that information is not reliable.
My mom got this phone too, just a couple of days. She asked me to install facebook and messenger app. To be estimated, I finished it for almost two hours. Becuase I need to install shareit and play services as well before shareit will work. Damn phone very laggy or may I say very slow. One app took more than 3 to 5 mins to finish. She got LG-X240.

Pretty sure, mine is K350K it lags a lot when scrolling on recent menu/multitask manager/whatever you called it is which is painful. Must be some lazy ass rom developer from my country's model. Hell not even any updates since sep-15 2017 (v10d), which is worse btw coz system root cannot be modified. This phone is officially abandoned I believe.

LOL, I even play DriftSpirits and Dirt Rally with mine while using an app called "Dimmer" (I stopped using Bluelight filter because it had ads) and I do have a lower fps while using it, but its nothing terrible.
About updates, I dont update since I installed its day one firmware and rooted it, so I can't tell if mine's still gets updates or not.
My main problem with my k350z is that I can't write or delete anything on my SDcard since I started using link2sd.
since then, I had to use my PC every time I need to manage my files.

Can't you just use adoptable storage instead link2sd? Never had any issue with SD card so far.

You're using Adoptable storage on it? I thought about using it but I thought link2SD would be easier.
Is there any bugs in doing it? I think it might not be a good idea since my 32gb card is a class 4.
would you help me in doing it? I already know how to do it but it is good to have someone that did it near in case I screw my phone up.

Horrible Input Lag / Touch Latency

Hello,
I'm noticing I'm getting a lot of input lag. Scrolling or swiping feels off. Using custom launcher like Nova, scrolling in app drawer is horrible so it is unusable. First few seconds screen is reacting fine and following my finger just right, but after that there is horrible delay between them. Same thing on Instagram app and some other apps etc... What can I do? Im not using LastPass or something similar.
Probably need to wipe data/cache for the launcher and apps that are not playing well or may be factory reset if above doesn't help.
It doesn't help. Even after factory reset lag is there.
These kind of lag and software problems I had in the era of the LG G2. It is very sad to see that LG didn't optimize their software after many years.
Honestly, I don't notice that. I don't think it's typical.
There are many complaints, sure, but lag on input isn't one.
I hate giving this advice, but maybe factory reset? That really isn't normal at all.

Yes, I have it too. Cant do anything about it, problem increases with custom launcher, there is perceptible lag when clicking and app opening.
It might be fixed after the Oreo update.
Yeah we all have the same problem. Someone notice it, someone don't. I think they won't fix the problems, because the same problems are there few years ago and today is still the same.

Uh, no. What you complained about was pretty serious:

While it is true that some of us are more sensitive to this sort of issue, if it's really that bad, there would be nobody NOT noticing it. I am not terribly picky about some kinds of lag, but any kind of scrolling issues drive me crazy and I can't complain about the G6 overall (some apps have weird behavior regardless of the device).
My first thought when I read this description was that it must be a bad app that is sucking up resources. But you said it continued after a factory reset, which would eliminate that. Or, did you mean "after a factory reset and setting everything back up the way I had it"?
Where you live, can you go play with one in a retail store and see if it's the same?

Yes, after factory reset and without setting things up input lag is still there. I had LG phones in the past and all of them have this kind of lag and touch latency issues in custom apps and launchers. So now I know that is the LGs thing. I was sure they were fixed the problems after few long years so that's why I go for their new flagship - LG G6. Unfortunately I was wrong that things were fixed and now the past continues to live.
Settings/Developer Options/ tick on "Force GPU Rendering" should make the beast smoother/snappier. If root available try L/Speed/ Entropy/ fstrim apps found on Play Store. Do install a custom kernel and play with Kernel Adiutor.
Oh... After toggling 'Disable HW Overlays' under developer options all the problems have disappeared. But this is not permanent fix unfortunately. I don't know what the LG thinks and why the LG thinks and why this problem exists for few long years on their devices.
How could LG be responsible for custom 3rd party apps?
I had lag on Google play games app too some times ago on my G6 and an app update for the games app fixed it, not LG!

What are you talking about? I have the same lag and stutter in LG based apps like LG stock launcher and all other apps where scrolling and swiping is necessary.
No such thing is happening on the phones of other manufacturers like Samsung, HTC etc.

Then you should try to fix it with a Software repair on LG Bridge because it will flash the whole firmware again, better than factory reset, because if an faulty OTA caused it, you can't fix it with factory reset.
And please don't mention Samsung and say that there are no lag issues...

Okay, that will fix all the problems on the brand new device which came with latest software preinstalled.

Same thing on my US997 model. This is absolutely horrible. I went from my honor 8 (broke the screen good) to an LG G6 expecting a device I could find love in. I'm not enjoying this phone very much.
Beyond oddball touch input lags making Gboard keyboard useless on occasion, the overall software experience on this phone is borderline stupid. I don't know where people can even have the room to complain about huawei's EMUI interface at all in comparison to LG's factory firmware.
My work provided phone S8 is a wondrous device all around compared to my new personal G6. This is upsetting.
I'll gladly repair my Honor 8 and go back to that and get rid of this G6 if oreo updates don't improve things. The input lags bugs, inability to disable camera audio, horrible front facing camera, inabilty to link notification&ringtone volume, oddball notification sound setting issues, terrible screen-grab funtions, slow fingerprint reader, lack of notification led (should have known this before purchase, oops), cheap ass rotating mass vibrator, annoying as hell content sharing panel that shifts options RIGHT as you click on an app, etc... This phone is annoying. I loved my honor 8, EMUI rocks.
Rant over. lolz
I don't know if it really works, but I used a touchscreen calibration app on my T-Mo G6 and have pretty much no issues. It was slightly laggy before I used the app.
Never had such lag.
